Diverse computing needs are met with reliable and flexible deployment options
What is our primary use case?
As part of my role at BSG, I deploy or sell Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to customers who need anything from just a single server to hundreds of servers. Our customers run all kinds of workloads such as virtual SQL, AI, and more on these servers. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers support a wide range of solutions, helping to ensure flexibility to cater to various customer needs.
What is most valuable?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are valuable because many users utilize iDRAC for management, and appreciate the consistency offered by Dell's server line. They offer a variety of features such as the availability of AMD and Intel options, and Dell is starting to get into direct and indirect water-cooled servers for larger customers. This suits those who need specific power consumption capabilities for their GPUs, CPUs, and RAM. Dell servers are supported by many partners when it comes to different software packages and solutions like OpenShift. Additionally, they offer a range of models to fit different customer needs.
What needs improvement?
The price of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is competitive. There's always room for support improvements, and the AI features could continue to be enhanced as the relationship with Nvidia grows.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Most of the time, deploying Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is straightforward. It’s crucial to have everything organized upfront, such as defining workloads and management responsibilities. Once these aspects are clear, the solution can be priced and installed efficiently, sometimes with Dell or Connection handling the installation.

Unlock exceptional data management with unmatched resilience and support
What is our primary use case?
We use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to manage all of our data. We have a lot of data that comes in. We're from the insurance industry, so we've managed data for 30 plus years of claimants who need to file claims for insurance for their property and homes. That needs a system that's robust, reliable, and secure. We looked at high availability servers by getting Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What is most valuable?
The benefits of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are its resilience, cost-effectiveness, and easy manageability. Our IT professionals are quite familiar with the technology, and we receive great customer support as well. We appreciate the resiliency because we can spread out our load of service between three hosts. That gives us redundancy if we need to do maintenance, or if we have an issue with any of the memory or hard drives in any of the servers. The storage itself is built with plenty of RAID, which means that data corruption and data loss are reduced significantly.
It has benefited us by eliminating downtime. Our servers have been resilient, and we've been able to do maintenance without any issues. We have truly not had any downtime on the infrastructure at all, whereas before we implemented this resilience, there were occasional downtimes that the organization needed to deal with.
What needs improvement?
The only challenge we have with the product is keeping it in line with VMware, knowing that VMware has now gone with a different provider. We're in this race with the software versus hardware compatibility. With Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we knew where we stood with some of the parts.
Licensing is also an issue, as we don't know what the costs are, what licenses we have, and whether the pricing will change. There's no transparency in what's happening or how our support works with VMware. They could improve by coming back and managing, maintaining it with a periodic check. For instance, after installation, they could return a year later to verify we're still applying best practices.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this particular solution for about four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have been able to do maintenance without any issues. We have truly not had any downtime on the infrastructure at all, whereas before we implemented this resilience, there were occasional downtimes that the organization needed to deal with.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The system has provided operational success by eliminating downtime. The resilience is really the key part that we focused on. If we want to enhance our services, the support has been great. We bought our product with scaling involved, and we've been scaling it up anytime we've needed more storage. The price point for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is easily configurable. You can have a small business to an enterprise level, depending on what you want to build it with. This makes it easy because we can buy something and scale it up to a larger business if we grow.
How are customer service and support?
With Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, there is no one better in the industry for tech support service. I can vouch for having experiences working with other companies that have had different technologies and different support, and working with them is a completely different experience than working with Dell. That's what separates Dell from the other competitors. The Dell support is far better than anyone I've experienced.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were required by our organization to have three reviews of competitors, and Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers came out ahead. HPE was one of them, and the third may have been Cisco UCS options. It was all standard, standalone servers per solution. That led us to go into the virtual environment.
How was the initial setup?
It's easy to manage Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers because Dell makes it straightforward. The interfaces from the different storage and servers that we've used haven't changed too much. The deployment services we get in the beginning mean that we are onboarded quite effectively to the point that we can self-serve.
What other advice do I have?
The solution deserves a rating of 10 out of 10. It's really that good. The Dell support is far better than anyone I've experienced.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Cost savings and performance benefits empower large-scale operations
What is our primary use case?
My use case includes all the production and development workloads, both prod and development workloads.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature, when I compare Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers with other brands available, is the price versus performance, as I get more for what I pay, and mostly, we use this for our CAD workloads. In terms of price-to-performance ratio, I can see at least a 10 to 12% difference when I choose a little cheaper option with Dell compared to others.
The benefits to my organization are huge because we are a big company, around 100 billion, so that small amount multiplies into something significant. Every year, we buy at least 30 to 70 rack mount servers, and over three to five years, if I calculate it, we save at least 12 to 15X compared to others.
What needs improvement?
I would improve Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers by making their firmware upgrades easier.
They do have Dell OpenManage Enterprise, which is easy, but when I am at remote sites, I have to download it locally to apply updates. From that perspective, I want an enhancement for an easier way to download and fix issues.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for almost 12 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
When it comes to the stability and reliability of the product, we have had a couple of blackouts once or twice, but nothing significant because we operate 24/7 and have a four-hour parsing time. From that perspective, there are no issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale to my company's needs. Earlier, we used other blade server products, which had much higher prices and power usage. When we switched to rack mount servers, even with multiple cables and increased network connections, we reduced our power utilization. Any outages or blackouts are limited to particular servers, not affecting the whole chassis or enclosures.
How are customer service and support?
I have used customer service or support for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. My impressions working with customer support are positive; whenever issues occur, we follow our company policy to fix them, but we still raise them with customer support, and they provide exactly what we need without any problems, especially for Dell servers.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What was our ROI?
Besides the price-to-performance ratio, I have not seen any other ROI metrics.
What other advice do I have?
If I had to give advice to someone at another company considering implementing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I would say go for it.
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the overall Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers product as a nine.

Offers ease of use, resource consolidation, and faster builds
What is our primary use case?
My latest use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers has been for virtualization, setting up Proxmox servers, and creating a secure environment by setting up VDI machines.
How has it helped my organization?
It has helped avoid purchasing multiple laptops and set everything up on just one server machine and one rack in a data center through consolidation.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is the ease of use, as it allows me to spin up different OSes on it without having to go through a bunch of hoops.
What needs improvement?
The pricing could be better, as budget is always a huge thing for us. Anytime we can get better pricing, it helps convince the business to adopt it.
For how long have I used the solution?
For my current use case of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, it has been about three months, but in my current position, I have been using it for about three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is good. It is significantly better than some of the 8 or 9-year-old Dell blade servers we were using before.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale with the growing needs of my company. We are scaling smoothly, as the PowerEdges we are putting in are replacing older ones, and we are getting much better feedback from the business on it.
We were 3,500 employees a month ago. We're now close to 33,000. We just got acquired.
How are customer service and support?
I have not had to contact customer service or technical support for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, as I have been able to manage everything myself.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
The blade servers we were using were eight or nine-year-old Dell blade servers.
How was the initial setup?
Deploying the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is easy. We just rack, stack, and then hook it up to the network, and it is good to go. For a single server, it takes maybe an hour or two.
What was our ROI?
My company has seen a return on investment from using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, as the builds that the build team runs are going approximately 30% faster on the newer PowerEdge than what we were using previously.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I personally think the pricing and licensing of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is actually fairly decent, though the way the business runs leads to sticker shock anytime we give them a quote.
What other advice do I have?
Currently, my team does not use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for any AI initiatives, but I believe there are other teams in the company that are, and they have their own dedicated PowerEdge servers.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten.

The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers help my organization overall since they are very reliable and very scalable.
I actually love the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers the way they are right now.
What needs improvement?
I would improve the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers by enhancing the GUI and providing a better hands-on experience for quick fixes on the servers, as most of the work is done by a vendor coming in to fix the systems. Having some videos online on the disassembly of the servers would be helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
My name is Pedro Lopez, and I've been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for 10 years while working at my university for over 15 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Regarding downtime with the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, they're very reliable, so we hardly have any downtime, and we have quick turnaround on repairs.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Dell's professional services as great, as they're very helpful and also do cross-training with us. We're able to learn from the experience of the setup.
What was our ROI?
I see a return on investment with the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. They're very cost-effective and reliable, and we were able to downsize.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing for the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is reasonable since we are part of higher ed, making the prices very competitive with other vendors we have approached.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We chose the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers based on our history with Dell and the cost.
What other advice do I have?
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers do not play a role in my organization's AI initiatives at the moment, as we're barely hitting that, striving towards AI.
I'm currently a server administrator, system administrator, and we remotely manage most of the servers using iDRAC.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very reliable, very cost-effective, and the services that Dell provides are very useful and helpful in deploying infrastructures. I really love the solutions that iDRAC gives you for quick updates and firmware, ensuring that they're reliable for our systems.

Seamless deployments and consistent quality enable smooth operations
What is our primary use case?
We deployed Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to support a VMware environment, and we're looking for something else, but primarily it's to support our software that we're delivering to our customers, allowing them to bring their own hardware if they wish; however, if they want us to provide it, we only bring Dell.
What is most valuable?
I find great value in Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, particularly in their excellent serviceability. At cost per feature, the pricing is great; I super love iDRAC and the serviceability, as they're easy to access when needed and work every time, showcasing consistency in quality.
The main benefit my customers see from installing or deploying Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that they don't have to pay much attention to it because it runs smoothly, meaning they don't babysit it as they should, which while not ideal, indicates how stable the product is.
What needs improvement?
In my opinion, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers could improve in clarity when specifying options; for instance, the difference between power supplies can sometimes be a little challenging to understand if you don't already know, but the product itself is great, and I believe it will continue to get better, so I don't have specific requests.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for 15 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The main benefit my customers see from installing or deploying Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that they don't have to pay much attention to it because it runs smoothly, meaning they don't babysit it as they should, which while not ideal, indicates how stable the product is.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've added nodes with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, and when customers expand their usage, they buy new suites on top of what we previously sold them, allowing new nodes to fit in smoothly without causing issues during additions to the stacks.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't needed to use Dell support recently, but I have in the past, and I feel that one of Dell's strong points is their support; they believe you and usually resolve issues without passing you on to someone else, and I appreciate having one person own my case and build a relationship by following up to check if everything is still working.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I haven't bought anything but Dell in a long time and found myself using other products at customer sites to assist in troubleshooting, and I've always felt that the interfaces on Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are pretty intuitive, which isn't always the case with other products.
How was the initial setup?
My role in using and managing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers involves specing it, picking it, buying it, ordering it, and installing it, so I manage it end to end until I turn it over to the customers, providing a turnkey service to go with our software that we sell.
What about the implementation team?
We work with a channel partner, distributing under OEM, and while we have a Platinum Dell partner to assist us in quoting and ordering, we maintain relationships with account managers at Dell, who are awesome.
What was our ROI?
I believe my customers really appreciate the predictability of costs, especially since Dell offers extended warranties that allow them to plan for running their systems for 5 or 6 years while being aware they'll need to purchase new equipment in the future, fitting well with their operations based on expenses.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
At cost per feature, the pricing is great.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We've compared Dell's pricing against HP in the past, and I think the pricing is competitive, offering good value.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as a solution overall a 10, as I'm not even considering other servers and am happy with PowerEdge.

Provides reliability and simplified infrastructure management with OpenManage
What is our primary use case?
All of our server infrastructure is PowerEdge, and it's all HCI PowerEdge.
By having Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we wanted density. We wanted to have a small power and cooling footprint. That's why we have PowerEdge and VxRail.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is OpenManage. We get a lot out of OpenManage because we have a sprawling infrastructure with around 100 data centers, and managing all of those separately is challenging. The automation built into OpenManage for firmware upgrades and life cycle management really helps us out.
What needs improvement?
I recommend not locking the GPU behind a different license for iDRAC. We've talked to the product team, and it hasn't changed yet. I don't understand why they do that because you can't get very many metrics out of iDRAC Enterprise, as you have to go to the Data Center for a GPU, which seems pointless.
I wouldn't change anything else since I haven't had any other headaches with the platform. I find the pricing and licensing on par with the market.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers at my current company for six years, and beyond that, probably 20.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability and reliability are extremely high. We rarely have failures even in places that aren't necessarily maintained. It's a workhorse.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is a big factor for us, along with time to deployment and ROI, which are all pretty significant.
We have 26,000 people in our organization, with about 400 people per venue.
How are customer service and support?
I work with customer service and tech support all the time. My impressions from working with them on the PowerEdge side are very high. We've had some challenges around VxRail after the Broadcom stuff, but I have nothing bad to say about PowerEdge.
I would rate their support an eight overall because it's still kind of a challenge for us. We're not tech direct currently, so it's challenging to call in and deal with the script response of 'have you tried turning it off and on again?' rather than getting escalated quickly. Better escalation would be nice, and quicker escalation would be appreciated.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Deploying the product is super easy. It's going to get easier, but for us, it's simply dropping it in a rack, powering it, networking it, and everything gets provisioned for what we need pretty quickly.
What was our ROI?
We have seen ROI. While I can't share metrics at scale, we have replaced a couple of venues with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers and replaced our VxRail. We project to save somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 million over the next three years when we get the rest of them done.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's pretty much on par.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Lenovo and Supermicro. Lenovo didn't have their eggs in the basket for any way to manage at scale, and Supermicro is kind of the same, plus there's just a big relationship with Dell that we can't ignore.
What other advice do I have?
In terms of AI initiatives, a lot of our potential use cases revolve around players, as we're trying to figure out how we can leverage AI to better their experience, such as checking into the bay and giving them advice as they're going through their bay journey. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can help with that because it is the platform our whole business runs on - it's the foundation.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten, as I never give a ten.

Flexibility and performance boost private cloud operations
What is our primary use case?
Our use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is as a private cloud. We have three products: utility computing where we use servers for bare metal configuration for our customers, private cloud, and integration of private cloud with hyperscalers.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are its flexibility and performance of the servers which are very good. I have been using PowerEdge for almost 25 to 30 years in my server rooms and data centers. I trust them more than other products because I have been managing not just data centers but also the internal IT of Tech Mahindra. I have been seeing a lot of improvements in Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as we progress forward.
What needs improvement?
Onsite support can improve hands and feet as we progress forward, but the remote site support is very good. The dispatch services are outsourced to small and medium companies, so we don't get consistent support.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using PowerEdge for a very long time, and I have been using it for almost 25 to 30 years in my server rooms and data centers.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We want to see what the approach is on generative AI as we move forward. On AI, we need to understand how this is going to scale, as AI is a different animal altogether.
How are customer service and support?
I evaluate the customer service and support for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as good; it has been good, and we don't find any problems.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What other advice do I have?
We are using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for AI initiatives as we move forward because we have developed infrastructure as code for our customers, and we are bringing generative AI and writing LLMs for that. We will definitely be using our systems for that in our data centers, GPU as a service.
Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers ten out of ten.

Consistently delivers timely support and enhanced operational efficiency with seamless customer installations
What is our primary use case?
Our use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that we sell to customers depending on the solution they need. For customers that want typical three-tier architecture, who don't want the FX or VXR rail, they just want to be able to get two, three, five, or ten nodes. Whatever is sold, we go out, install it, and configure it to get it ready for the customer.
What is most valuable?
I consider iDRAC to be the most valuable feature in Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, which is available everywhere in all Dell products. I prefer iDRAC compared to competitors' solutions, including HP solutions.
What needs improvement?
A feature that would enhance Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is the ability to get multiple servers up and running quickly versus having to do one at a time. Unless I use OpenManage, most customers don't want us to do that. It would be beneficial to have an easier way to get these updated quickly out of the box, even if that means having a tool that lets us run it on our laptops or that I can quickly spin up in a customer environment to push firmware for multiple nodes simultaneously.
When asked about improvements, I find it difficult to suggest changes since the system functions so effectively.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for three years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The organizations that install Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers generally have anywhere between 500 to 2,000 people, so it's usually smaller companies I deal with.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale with customer needs effectively.
They're usually used for three-tier, where customers already have either substantial storage or they have other storage platforms that they're bringing in and connecting. Whenever they need to, they can just add more nodes.
Since it doesn't have to be in a particular rack or even on the same floor in a multi-floor customer environment, they can always place it wherever needed. The ability to put a node wherever they need it is advantageous.
How are customer service and support?
Customer service response for break/fix issues and support documentation for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers has been good thus far. I have concerns with other products, specifically PowerFlex. That said, in general, PowerEdge support has been excellent. My experience with customer service has been positive. When we had a power supply failure out of the box, we called support, and they delivered the replacement within four hours as promised.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The deployment time for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers varies depending on the customer environment and factors such as cabling requirements and switch proximity.
After the equipment is racked, stacked, cabled, and powered on, I can typically get ESXi up and running with vCenter and basic operational functionality for up to ten nodes in an eight-hour day.
What was our ROI?
While I'm not on the sales side and don't necessarily follow up afterwards, I observe that customers who have had Dell products previously often return to Dell for refreshes, which indicates they are seeing return on investment.
I evaluate the price-to-performance of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as good.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
They are not very expensive.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
The competitors I have used include Supermicro equipment, HP equipment, and some Lenovo equipment many years ago.
What other advice do I have?
At this time, we're not using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for any AI-based initiatives.
Our partnership with Dell and what we're able to provide to the customer is valuable.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine.

Out-of-band management and resiliency provide seamless remote access and operation
What is our primary use case?
Everything from bare metal to ESXi host, any kind of hypervisor is what I've used Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for.
Currently, we are using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for AI initiatives; one of our projects I cannot discuss, however, it has been really good. Everything about it, including the Redfish hooks and the automation, is very easy and streamlined for the AIs regarding Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What is most valuable?
The iDRAC is the most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers; the out-of-band management is absolutely fantastic, especially when you institute roles that prevent access to the data center, and being able to do it remotely is fantastic.
Initial setup, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance have benefited the organizations I work with since everything has been more streamlined, especially when you add OME into it. Whether it's connected to the internet or not, the on-prem versions still function fantastically.
What needs improvement?
For the internal SD card of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I would add driver packs so that when you're trying to image bare metal, you don't have to worry about trying to find all the drivers you need to install whatever OS it could be, specifically in our environments in the fed space, since trying to use USB devices is difficult, so adding things on the USB stick and plugging them in for drivers is most of the time not possible.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for probably eight years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The resiliency and stability of the products are fantastic. We have devices that have been around until end-of-life, but we're still using them for things, so stability has been great with very minimal issues. When issues occur, it's usually a hard drive failure, which is expected, so I think it's excellent.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very flexible, whether you're doing a vSAN ready node or whatever may be your hyperscale of choice, because they scale easily, and adding them into whatever environment you have is straightforward.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support is usually really good for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. My only complaint would be if you're calling the specific fed line, sometimes they don't transfer you, and they want to get information that you can't give them before they do, even if you call the dedicated fed line, which is not always consistent, depending on the time of day.
The support is actually a big part of it when evaluating other solutions. The warranty support and keeping your hard drive for the fed space is key. Typically, the contacts we have on-site are very knowledgeable, they come in within a day and usually have it fixed and taken care of if there are issues. Even when they don't need something replaced, they usually suggest helpful troubleshooting steps, and it's usually really good support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
It's really easy to deploy. It's pretty straightforward. Whether you're having it automated through OME and it's pushing your configs or you're doing it just directly connecting into your iDRAC. Out of all the devices I've used in the industry, it's probably the easiest I've used.
What other advice do I have?
I actually work for a value-added reseller, and I support many federal customers, which means my organization is a giant. On a scale of one to ten, I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten.

Easy remote access and reliable performance streamline operations
What is our primary use case?
Our company uses Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers primarily for VMware, but we also have several PowerEdge for NAS storage.
I am a system administrator. I deploy new servers. More recently, I've been decommissioning old servers and getting those ready to refurbish because we have to resell or surplus them. I also help look up specs to recommend to my director what we should get for the next refresh.
How has it helped my organization?
From using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, our company has realized sustainability and reliability, as we don't have to worry about whether they will go down or not. They have been very reliable, except for one server issue, which had nothing to do with Dell or the server itself, just an act of nature.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is the iDRAC, because it allows me to remotely access it from my computer without having to plug in a monitor and keyboard. I can see what's wrong and manually push updates if needed. For example, we recently had a motherboard that was bad, and iDRAC informed me of the faulty component, which is helpful because it saves me from guessing what's wrong.
What needs improvement?
A nice-to-have feature for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers would be shorter lengths because we recently got a new data center with horizontal PDUs, and we had to replace some PowerEdges due to their longer sizes, which wouldn't fit without taking out the PDUs and switching to vertical ones.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for three years now, and from what I can tell, my company has been using them for a very long time. They're great.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
They are very reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We are a small to medium-sized organization. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers cater to the needs of our small to medium-sized company, as we can contact our Dell rep and explain our needs, and they can recommend the perfect PowerEdge for us.
How are customer service and support?
I would describe my experience with Dell's support for PowerEdge solutions as great, as we had to get a motherboard replaced, and the replacement part arrived the next business day, which was impressive. I would rate them a 10 out of 10.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
They tried HPE servers for a bit, but they didn't really like them.
How was the initial setup?
The only challenge we faced was when they were longer servers. We couldn't fit them in our rack without taking out the PDUs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I know the pricing for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers went up last year, and we weren't too happy about that, but it is what it is.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a 10 out of 10.

Cutting-edge management features and exceptional support streamline operations
What is our primary use case?
My company's use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that we use it internally for our office purpose and also we resell it to our customers.
How has it helped my organization?
The features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have benefited our organization as they simplify the IT manager's job. It gives them entire visibility of the device which enables them to keep growing their applications or data, and it basically simplifies the IT manager's jobs.
What is most valuable?
The feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers that I value the best is the iDRAC, as it is extremely good and simplifies tasks. It is very rigid and very durable, which is why most people continue buying these servers on a regular basis.
Dell has supported growth and operational success within those companies we resell to through the backend support, which is extremely good. Dell is the only organization now that has products from clients to storage, networking, and all data center devices. There is no other organization in the market which has all these products.
Dell makes it extremely easy for customers to buy. They get one-on-one support for all products. The support has been extremely good compared to other brands. AI is something very new, and Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are currently coming up with integrated GPUs for AI, which are getting implemented now. There is a lot of demand in the market, and customers keep asking for it.
What needs improvement?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are already the best, and there is nothing new that I would suggest to improve. The only aspect that could be improved is the price. The product is extremely good, so it is always priced high. To improve product sales, reducing the price would help.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for the past 10 years. I have been a Dell employee, so I have been using it for more than 15 years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale with the growing needs of organizations as the solution is built with scalability options. As long as your data or application requires scalability, the PowerEdge already has the feature which helps to scale.
How are customer service and support?
The customer service and technical support from Dell is extremely good. That has been the biggest plus point of Dell and one of the biggest reasons for it to have a good market share.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
It's extremely easy to deploy Dell. The products have been made in such a way that it's user-friendly, and it's extremely easy to implement.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of pricing and licensing for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, what can be done is stocking the servers with distributors as much as possible to bring down the price, similar to what other OEMs do.
Dell is more expensive since it has more B2B orders compared to HP or Lenovo who focus on stock and sell business. This helps them to bring down the price.
Additionally, the sourcing of spare parts could be streamlined better to reduce the price.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I do sell other solutions, such as HP and Lenovo, and Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have been far better compared to the others in durability and support, except for the price.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers eight out of ten. It is a bit expensive compared to others.

Out-of-band management simplifies remote server tasks and enhances operational efficiency
What is our primary use case?
Our use cases for the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers involve reselling the servers to our customers as a Dell VAR reseller, and internally, we use them for our own lab environments, testing, and evaluating the servers for our customers in advance to see how they're doing.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature we find in the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is the iDRAC. We value the iDRAC for its out-of-band management for the servers; servers are servers for the most part, but the iDRAC is the bread and butter of the PowerEdge server series. The ability to do everything through that iDRAC interface is a key for us, allowing us to perform tasks remotely without needing to physically touch anything. Everything can be done through APIs via the iDRAC, making it a very powerful tool we rely on regularly. Its integration into other products, such as OpenManage Enterprise, drives us to use the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as a whole.
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have benefited our organization greatly since we sell numerous units for our customers. We are working with HPC systems for our customers, and it really is the bread and butter product. Everything starts with compute, and that's the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for you.
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are doing a pretty good job; they're moving towards liquid cooling and making it more accessible. The form factor is nice, and they're easy to work on as far as tools and everything.
What needs improvement?
The licensing of the different formats of the iDRAC is somewhat annoying; I understand why they do it, but if you have the iDRAC license, you should have access to everything. I don't understand why it needs to be sliced into levels such as essential for the bare bones; everyone's going to use Enterprise anyway, so in my opinion, we don't need that many levels of licensing for iDRAC.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for five years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not experienced any performance issues with the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers; however, we have experienced downtime. It's usually due to environmental issues in a lab, not due to of the server itself.
We have had crashes due to hardware failure. The causes for that have been memory DIMMs and hard drives that needed to be replaced. I should note that they've never caused any outages or crashes; they went bad and had to be replaced. Thanks to the redundancy, they didn't cause any crashes that I can think of.
We've had operating system crashes yet not hardware-based ones. I would assess the overall stability and reliability of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as very good; it directly relates to no crashes.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale for our company absolutely, as we are a small company.
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers don't necessarily cater to small businesses and small-medium businesses; it's usable yet not really catered to. It caters more to enterprises.
How are customer service and support?
I have worked with customer support before. My impressions of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers support specifically are that they are usually fine. I don't need to engage technical support as much as some of the other products because it's straightforward. Usually, it's break-fix type of situations, and that's always pretty easy and responsive.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have evaluated other server solutions. We have reviewed HP, Supermicro, and Penguin Computing servers in the past. We go with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers because we are a Dell Titanium partner. We have a long-standing relationship that allows us better pricing and discounts.
How was the initial setup?
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very easy to deploy; it goes right back to the iDRAC, which makes it super easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The iDRAC is really the only thing you license on a Dell PowerEdge Rack Server.
What other advice do I have?
We are using blades, multi-use chassis, and rack servers from the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers; no towers. We do use the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for AI initiatives. In terms of AI usage, we have developed our own AI, such as a large language model chatbot for internal use to import documents and perform tasks. Anything beyond that, we are unable to discuss.
On a scale from one to ten, I would rate the product overall a ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Improved data processing and faster deployment for higher efficiency
What is our primary use case?
The use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is digitizing and processing of data, but I can't say more. I can't be more specific.
How has it helped my organization?
The benefits my company has realized from using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers range from collating information to simulating different physical objects such as antennas and radar type applications.
What is most valuable?
What I find valuable about Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is the adaptability to configure, based on one or multiple processors, taking advantage of the number of cores, the ease by which it works with the Tensor Cores of the GPUs, and that's the most value in terms of processing speed and large scale problems.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers play a role in our company's AI initiatives, however, that's a new area for us. We've been exploring the idea of collaborating, in terms of how we can leverage AI for our data processing, and more importantly to better be able to predict different scenarios. But I'm not involved in that aspect of it just yet.
What needs improvement?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers could be improved in areas such as cooling. I've seen some demos of Dell working with Vertiv to manage things such as that, so a combination of air cool and liquid cool.
That's one aspect. The other aspect is the form factor; it's pretty big, takes up a lot of space. However, as the technology of the GPUs improves, we could probably do the same workload with less add-ons, and that would simplify that problem. From what I've seen here, Dell is already working with partners to address these concerns.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in my organization for about five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Reliability was a big issue for me when I switched to Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. The previous solution had reliability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale with the growing needs of my company. It works since we can deploy images quickly. We can hot swap things. As we scale, it's just a matter of having the vision to have enough space and physical infrastructure to do that. As far as the server resources and software resources, it's pretty easy.
How are customer service and support?
I assess support from Dell as excellent; what I most appreciate is the regional support. At the enterprise level, there's always someone to talk to, to reach out to.
The sales reps stay in the loop and they constantly stay in touch. It's fairly easy to pick up a phone and call someone and get to the right place. What I appreciate is even if they don't know or they're not immediately sure of a solution to our problems, they'll quickly point us in the right direction.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before selecting Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I didn't have such good luck with HP. HP Enterprise doesn't work for me. I've had some successes with custom-built servers, but in terms of price, eventually at scale, they become cost-prohibitive. That's one of the reasons why we moved towards the Dell solution over the years. In terms of cost, reliability, the ability to work directly with them to spec different systems and get them supplied on a decent lead time works. The other vendors don't work so effectively.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is easy. I can I can dump images on the server and just send it off and install it. It's hot swappable in a sense, the way we had it configured. It's very easy.
What was our ROI?
The speed of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is valuable to me. The benefit for higher speed and more accurate results is less development time and faster time to market in some aspects, and better return on the investment overall.
In my immediate case for antenna analysis, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers offer a reduction from days of computing to half a day or hours. It's ten-times improvement when combining processor cores and Tensor Cores in the same form factor. In terms of radar analysis, we can process more objects; it's four-times improvement in the number of objects we can keep track of at the same time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is somewhat skewed. In the beginning, we used a lot of resources, in terms of dollars, to try to do everything ourselves. What we're finding over the years is Dell works with other partners to make that easier, so we can actually save a lot of time by having other people with the right expertise do things. That's not so much an issue anymore because we've figured out how to keep our costs moderate by working with Dell directly and their partners.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did have another solution addressing the same needs before Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, and that's where the competition comes in.
What other advice do I have?
My role in using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is to figure out what the system needs for the work, or for the processing that we need and assist with purchasing of that stuff. On a technical level, I'm also collecting the data from our instruments and making sure that data is processed to provide usable, actionable information.
My advice to other companies who are considering Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is definitely to get directly with Dell. Get direct contact with the support group and that will get you to the engineering level. Dell will work with you to develop and spec a system. Once you spec it, if your ambition is to scale and grow, that can always be part of it. That initial, direct working relationship with Dell is my best recommendation of where to start. Trying to do it on your own, you won't necessarily understand. You may understand the current technology, yet you may not understand where that technology is going or the vision of Dell. Dell can show you that vision, and you can now architect a system that takes advantage of that in the future to minimize your replacement costs down the road. So before you do anything, pick up the phone and start working with one of the engineers or application engineers; that works best.
I'd give Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a rating of ten out of ten. Those guys are easy to talk to and easy to work with.

Delivers outstanding support and enables full VMware integration
What is our primary use case?
Our use case for the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that we use them as ESXi hosts in our data centers, and we have approximately three data centers. Its primary use case is ESXi host. We occasionally have a smaller Dell PowerEdge that would be designed for single application-based server. Other than that, that is the main purpose.
How has it helped my organization?
The benefit of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to our organization is that our entire infrastructure is VMware driven, so we need ESXi hosts. Our entire VMware systems run off of Dell PowerEdge, so we could not run without it.
What is most valuable?
One of the most valuable features of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is the redundancy that's built into it: redundant power supplies and redundant RAM modules. It takes care of itself in many cases.
One thing I appreciate about the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers 17s is the numerous new features.
I appreciate the smaller footprint in terms of its efficiency in the racks, less power consumption, and more modular design for installing other components. Hopefully, the components won't be as expensive as installing extra drives and other components. I'm hoping the cost will be driven down by making them more modular.
They make that very user-friendly and easy. In terms of working with the platform regarding driver compatibility, firmware, and the hypervisor, it is excellent.
The price-to-performance ratio of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is good, and performance is great. It is comparable and acceptable.
Besides the minor issues, the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are rock solid and have been for several years now. That is why we continue to use and deploy them.
What needs improvement?
If I could improve the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in any way, I would say that buying the components separately at a lower cost is the only thing.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers since the 10th generation.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have experienced crashes, downtimes, and performance issues with the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We have had a crash here and there, but it has only been one host and not multiple hosts. We were able to bounce back quickly.
The reliability and stability of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is good. We run them in our data center in a high-performance scenario which normally takes life off of the hardware, however, we have had no issues. We still have 10th-generation Dell servers running in our data center, which are very old and still running great.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell can grow and scale with the needs of my company, as they always have. The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers cater to the needs of my medium-size business by providing great out-of-box performance from a VMware perspective, scalability, and compatibility with the VMware platform.
How are customer service and support?
If I had to rank Dell support from one to ten, with ten being best and one being worst, I would rank the support as ten.
Dell support is the best. We have dealt with other support providers. Hands down, Dell is the best in terms of the usability, functionality, and their willingness to help. They help even when a product may go out of warranty, knowing we are loyal customers who will continue to buy their products, they will still do whatever they can to help.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't find the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to be expensive in general when I buy it a la carte. The aftermarket price for RAM modules and CPU cores is expensive. If I want to switch out a CPU or processor inside of my Dell PowerEdge to gain more cores, which increases my performance for VMware, the aftermarket price is so expensive that we typically take that box, retire an older Dell PowerEdge, and then buy a brand new one.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before installing the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we had looked at HP and Cisco which also have their own line of virtualized servers. However, considering Dell support and how Dell has been a very good partner with us, we stick with them.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten, I rate this solution an eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

We have experienced long-term reliability and seamless integration
What is our primary use case?
We normally do rack for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, and we started buying the VX rails, which is based on the same platform too.
Most of the time, we're doing this for more compute with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We have a standard workload and usually run mostly bare metal on most of our platform, except when we do the VX rail, which then we use the ESXi VMware for that one. It is all Linux based.
The nice benefit with the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers was that we moved from an Intel platform, started buying more 7525s, more of the AMD-based processors because we can get higher four counts, more dense memory, so that's been our transition.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that it's very common.
We've seen a lot of reliability with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. I just turned off a server that's been on for 11 years. That was a 410 that ran forever. From our point of view, they get good value in what they bought, and it continues to run, so we continue to buy them. It's a very stable, reliable product. The biggest benefit compared to HP is the iDRAC feature. HP has an iLO, but we've had more issues with that and its configuration than we have with the iDRAC and its configuration of the Dell server itself.
We've been impacted by data center issues with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, however, typically not from the server side. We have only lost maybe two power supplies out of about 80 servers. They just run forever.
What needs improvement?
The easiest thing to improve the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is to have a better road map for us. The challenges we have, because of the two-socket processor, are that there's a refresh cycle about every three years to move to the next product line.
For us, this gets difficult based on how we do our procurement cycles, as sometimes it's a little too short. We'd prefer to have similar equipment, yet sometimes we end up having multi-generations of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers only due to the fact that we buy in year one and a half to two during the production cycle, and it just gets more complicated for us.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers since approximately 2000. I've used many different versions going back to 1750s, R900s. We have been using this platform for at least almost 20 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We've seen excellent reliability with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. I recently turned off a server that had been running for 11 years. We run the platform, and that was a 410 that ran forever. From our point of view, they get good value in what they bought, and it continues to keep running. We have about 80 servers and have only lost maybe two power supplies. They just run forever. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers definitely fit our needs.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The only issue with the VX rail was the confusion about the strategy going forward, but that was more related to Broadcom confusing the customers. We run a hyper-converged platform inside our system stack. We weren't really sure what would be supported going forward, but now that we can continue to purchase the rails, they seem to fit our model going forward. It's an easy scalable solution. We can also buy Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers and deploy our own ESX and do whatever we want to do.
How are customer service and support?
The customer service for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is great. I'd give them a ten out of ten on that.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Due to budget constraints in the last couple years when considering Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, the customer we work with specifically brought us some HP equipment, so I ended up with some DL380s. Eventually, they will be replaced when we buy more Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to get them out of our ecosystem.
We do work with other vendors too; however, predominantly, most of our equipment is Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We have Dell on-site support for whatever we need. We haven't had many failures with the platform. We are still running some R930s that are about 10 years old, and we've had zero problems with them. They're 13th generation, while they're currently at 18th generation.
How was the initial setup?
Since we have such a history of deploying these, it's simple for us with intuitive setup. The iDRACs are very simple for us to get things up and running fast, and it fits into how we've built the architecture. The servers have been very standardized for so long. We have both single U and multi U servers based on what the requirement was or what the workload was.
What other advice do I have?
We are not using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for AI initiatives at the moment. We initially looked at doing that, so we bought GPU-ready nodes and used them in a different way. We use those for inference for VDI, however, we've moved away from that based on the way we do compute, and AI doesn't play a factor in what we do. We do more computational-type things.
I'd give Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a rating of ten out of ten. We haven't had any issues with it.

Innovative use of edge technology facilitates real-time data insights and AI integration
What is our primary use case?
The use cases for implementing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are mainly in warehouses and manufacturing sites to ensure they can effectively utilize IoT devices.
For instance, a customer has livestock that they brand with barcodes to maintain their health and monitor their consumption, and all these IoT devices are rolling throughout their facilities, gathering data in real-time for assessments. This technology at the edge is very helpful for them.
What is most valuable?
The features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers support AI initiatives by providing compute and storage at the edge, enabling the creation of a lot of real-time information and making that information available to AI capabilities, which helps drive outcomes more quickly.
From a VAR perspective, the most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are our ability to implement the infrastructure and make it readily available for our customers.
Customers share with us their experiences, highlighting reliability, ease of use, maintenance, and lifecycle management. They frequently mention that this equipment doesn't break, stating it works and functions reliably.
What needs improvement?
The ways Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers could improve relate more to the educational aspects of how customers can continue to leverage technology, which presents challenges. I do not have a specific set of examples where I think Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers could be better or more efficient; it really comes down to ensuring the end customer has a better grasp of what the technology can do for them.
For how long have I used the solution?
My company is a reseller, so we provide solutions for our customers.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
When it comes to scalability with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I find it interesting that, in manufacturing, scalability often doesn't apply much as these are typically small but numerous sites. Thus, scalability means ensuring the collective information derived from all these edge sites can funnel through their main data center rather than within individual sites.
How are customer service and support?
We work with Dell support, and I have a highly competent, certified engineering team that works closely with them, making it a very mutually beneficial situation as we do a lot of hands-on work and code deliveries with our Dell partners.
I would rate Dell support honestly as having improved; however, there's significant change within the Dell organization that we have felt, impacting the relationships we've built to escalate and address problem scenarios.
If I rated the support two years ago, it would have been a high eight or maybe a nine; in the last six months, it has likely dropped to a six or seven out of ten due to a lot of churn in Dell, particularly with their sales force and engineering teams.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I honestly do not prefer any other competitors of Dell. Having been a customer for 25 years before joining the vendor side, I have experience with HP and Supermicro yet did not prefer those products. My prior issues with Dell equipment were manageable because I knew I could rely on support. Whereas with HP, I did not have that confidence, and Supermicro may seem cheaper but has atrocious lifecycle management and upkeep, which I prefer to avoid.
What other advice do I have?
They do have AI in these cases, and we are actually trying to interject ourselves more into those conversations. A lot of these manufacturers have a conservative mindset regarding technology, focusing on product, shipping, and logistics, which means IT sometimes becomes an afterthought. As a VAR, we try to influence them on leveraging their current data sets to ask how they can use their data to enable business outcomes, and this conversation is now progressing in their understanding of the power of that. AI plays a significant role in predictability concerning their stock, product sets, and inventory shortcomings, particularly in the manufacturing of livestock, regarding health and the ability to harvest that product.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers overall about a nine out of ten as nothing is truly perfect, leaving opportunities for improvement. It's a great solution for my customers, and it's the one we continue to sell.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Global support and specialist assistance have enhanced complex enterprise applications
What is our primary use case?
That is my primary use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are their worldwide support, which is very accessible along with receiving assistance from professionals and specialists, and the continuous innovations that make it an amazing product in this era.
I find Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to be a very complex product that is useful in various purposes and across enterprise-level and data center applications, making it very valuable in any area.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers stands out over competitors due to their clean design and strong technology support.

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers since around 2015, which was maybe the first or early generation of PowerEdge servers.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
When discussing stability and reliability, we aim for Tier 3, requiring the right solutions and servers, which Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can help us achieve.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very scalable and recently announced new HCI called APEX HCI, providing many advantages and flexible options that are understandable for customers.
How are customer service and support?
They have superior customer support compared to Supermicro, which does not cater to enterprise-level needs.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used Supermicro and HP before selecting Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What was our ROI?
While I can't recall specific numbers, our company has had discussions about the return on investment from using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. It takes time to realize those benefits.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
With over 15 years in this field, I can say that the setup costs, pricing, and licensing in terms of cost efficiency and OPEX, alongside working with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, is very cost-efficient. They allow for improvements, changes, and upgrades which are understandable and clear.
What other advice do I have?
We are planning to implement Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers with GPUs this year, and we are currently working on that purchase.
We are not using it for AI yet; we are just planning this year while working with Dell's representative office on it. We look for solutions suitable for AI and GPU, while previously we considered flash disks and CPUs for cloud platforms and RAID controllers as important for implementing HCI.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten.

Reliability and ease of implementation free up time to explore new technologies
What is our primary use case?
My use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is running virtual machines mostly. We have one that I just deployed that is running Hyper-V and this is the first time we have had to deal with Hyper-V.
It is going to be more or less the same thing, running virtual machines.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is pretty much the same thing that I mentioned with PowerStore: the simplicity, the resiliency, and the fact that it just works.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers benefit me because if I'm not having to use my time to troubleshoot something, I can use that time to implement new technologies for the company and similar tasks. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have been one of those things where I can set it and forget it. It just does its job and rarely ever has issues. Time saved equals new technologies for the company to use.
What needs improvement?
If I could improve Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in any way, it would be something with OpenManage itself. I need more transparency on how OpenManage can help me with our company being an SMB. I want more documentation for SMBs regarding Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for twelve years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I haven't had any downtime, crashes or performance issues with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We've had downtime but it's usually when we're upgrading something. It's never been downtime because the servers themselves need to be troubleshooted or anything similar.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For a small-medium business, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have supported our growth probably because of how easy it is to scale with them, as we have grown exponentially. We went from a company of just 200 users to a company of over 600 in just five years. Just increasing the amount of servers that we got has been easy.
How are customer service and support?
I may have used the customer service or support for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers maybe nine years ago. I honestly can't even remember what it was about, but I think I've only really had to use it once. We still pay for support all the time, but it's nice to not have to use it.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I believe we've always used Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. Even when I came on board, my previous experience with my previous company was with Dell PowerEdge and when I came on board it was all Dell PowerEdge also.
What about the implementation team?
I was part of the deployment of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What was our ROI?
I have seen some return on investment, but since I'm not a finance person, that's not something I'm able to answer beyond peace of mind.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
For servers, I have not evaluated any other vendors and have no interest in doing so.
What other advice do I have?
I feel Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers specifically caters to the needs of SMBs. There's a reason why I don't have any experience with any other vendors in terms of servers, just because I don't want to not use Dell PowerEdge.
On a scale of one to ten, with one being worst and ten being best, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Delivers operational success and supports seamless growth through reliable infrastructure
What is our primary use case?
We use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers primarily in a virtualized environment for our company. Our company performs all different types of functions, from finance to healthcare, to all kinds of different business lines. We run all the internal proprietary applications on our Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
How has it helped my organization?
I would say Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have supported growth and operational success for my company. It's a little outside of PowerEdge. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers work with Dell's PowerFlex, a hyper-converged infrastructure.
The compute side is Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers with PowerFlex storage. We are in the middle of a lifecycle management where we're refreshing a lot of our new infrastructure with the Dell PowerFlex, which includes Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
One of our latest acquisitions is in the healthcare business, and we're buying all new Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers with PowerFlex storage.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for me are ease of management and connectivity to the large storage systems.
Flexibility and sizing of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, from compute to memory, cater specifically to our needs.
We use a storage platform that is outside of the box, so it's really about flexibility and what we need from various processors and available memory.
What needs improvement?
From a Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers perspective, I would prefer to see them just keep up with the latest processors, with more power.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for a long time, over five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have realized benefits from using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers because we have a good partnership with Dell. Since we buy a lot, they give us good pricing. In my opinion, it's very stable, reliable hardware with minimal failures.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale perfectly with the growing needs of my company. We can throw in a new rack, add it to our VMware cluster, attach it to our SANs storage, and we're often running.
How are customer service and support?
Their support for their solutions is one of the best aspects of Dell.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
At different companies, I have used IBM as a different solution to address similar needs before adopting Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. Though they're a decent hardware vendor, I cannot say if their reliability is as good as Dell.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is pretty straightforward. In terms of a rack mount server, they have all the things we need to get them up and running.
What was our ROI?
I have realized a return on my investment with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in terms of cost savings. The value of uptime to us is critical. We can equate in minutes of millions of dollars of lost revenue. Any type of failure or lost revenue can add up very quickly.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers has been very competitive. You get what you pay for. If you go with a cheaper vendor, you get what you pay for. My company has had a long relationship with Dell for good reasons. We have some equipment that's over ten years old that's never been turned off, still running strong. The partnership we have with Dell has been key to our success.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at IBM and HP as other solutions before Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. From a hardware perspective, we considered Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers and physical servers. We looked at various virtualization products, however, that goes outside of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We primarily considered HP and IBM.
What other advice do I have?
My role in using or managing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers involves managing the compute and the servers specifically.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers do not currently play a role in my company's AI initiatives. We do have plans, however, for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to play a role in our future AI initiatives.
Performance, reliability, and cost stood out to me in my evaluation process of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. It's really a combination of those factors.
I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as a nine out of ten overall.

Works well for our data storage and computing needs for satellite imaging
What is our primary use case?
Our use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is data storage and computing for satellite images and AR picture generation.
What is most valuable?
It's required for our business. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers benefit our organization as we build satellites and use images from Earth to check the planet's health and constellation for telecommunication purposes. Our company is very young, with eight satellites in space, and we are still building the company.
What needs improvement?
Being in Belgium, which is a small country, we might be considered too small for Dell since we only have 40 Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. This sometimes affects our ability to receive deployment support.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for ten years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've 300 people in our organization. I believe Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can grow with our business. Our company has a megafactory for satellites, making us the biggest company in Europe for satellites and the third in the world. Dell can support us in growing the company and developing our IT infrastructure.
How are customer service and support?
The customer service is excellent, but we don't always get deployment support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used HPE servers previously.
How was the initial setup?
It's very easy to deploy Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate other solutions besides Dell when we were looking because our IT manager had previous experience with Dell, and we continued with that decision.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Partnership delivers robust support and competitive pricing
What is our primary use case?
We have both the XE line servers in our data center that we're using for large language model.
We also have, with our new fresh deployment going into stores, deploying four Nvidia L4 cards. We're doing inferencing at the edge for our dwell apps, for security stuff, for loss prevention. So a lot of AI work is going into that on those Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
How has it helped my organization?
Our partnership with Dell provides a consistent platform across our 1800 locations.
What is most valuable?
Dell is a critical partner for our company. We have a great partnership. They have excellent sales and technical teams, and their long-term support teams. They are very engaged with us. They help us work through things and they're also very competitive on pricing. It has been at or above industry grade for the stability and reliability of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What needs improvement?
I would increase the life cycle management and those life cycle management tools. I know that's a big focus of Dell now with their private cloud experience. And then also with the enhancements to OME that are coming down the line.
Speaking on the XE series specifically, the internal service to the system, if you need to get to a DIMM or anything similar, requires that you remove all three risers and the storage controller. It's not very internally service friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been deploying Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers since 2021.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It has been at or above industry grade for the stability and reliability of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Everything from our original VX Rail stuff scaling out in our data center to just our edge platforms, which is a much smaller, four-node cluster, hasn't been an issue scaling.
How are customer service and support?
We have dedicated support. We have a great representative, LaShonda, who helps us navigate that. We also have a TAM, a full-time TAM, Brandon, who does a great job of working with us to meet and talk about our concerns and issues that we see.
It deserves a rating of ten out of ten. We have a great sales team. If we have questions, they're available 24/7. If we need escalations, they're there, they make it happen. We definitely enjoy that aspect of it.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
It went through RFP and that gets cycled through. All the big players, HP, Dell, Lenovo, all those vendors get sorted through.
How was the initial setup?
We've had no problem with the deployment of Dell. After deployment, we have joined Dell's managed services as well.
What was our ROI?
We're getting a lot of efficiencies and increasing our density, especially as the product line matures. We've been able to shrink down our core counts to reduce our licensing at the edge. We are definitely seeing ROI on our investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing in our case is very competitive and very good.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I can't think of anything specific to add regarding alternate solutions.
What other advice do I have?
Rack is the model we're using and the kind of functionality we're employing.
I would give Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers an overall rating of eight out of ten.

User-friendly remote access and reliable performance support global operations
What is our primary use case?
An example of the use cases for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in my company is that we use them for virtualization platforms; currently, it's VMware, so the host that VMware sits on.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for me, my team, and the company is iDRAC. It's more user-friendly than the HPE products, and we can access them remotely, which is very important when we have a global presence, especially at smaller sites where we don't have a person on-site. So, iDRAC really helps us to get into that platform and do maintenance and things like that remotely.
The reliability of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is another benefit I've realized from their usage.
They look great, have a nice LCD on them, and are easy to manage and maintain in racks.
What needs improvement?
In thinking about how Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can be improved, that's a tough one for me. I haven't had a problem yet. I don't have one additional feature I'd want to see on Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
In terms of areas for improvement, maybe on the education side, working with third-party sellers on how easy their products are could probably help.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
To measure the success with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we use some monitoring software that tells us various different metrics of the server, and it doesn't ever go down, so it's been really good for us.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale really well with the growing needs of my company; we're not maxed out on the host servers we have now, so we could easily scale out from there and then get more servers if we need them.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't had to use Dell's support yet, so I don't know for sure. They're really good, and we have a support contract for five years, however, we haven't had to use it.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to adopting Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we were using HPE servers. The factors that led me to consider a change were manageability, as I didn't enjoy the interface of HPE, and then Dell actually seeded us a server for free to use, which blew my mind; it was really a lot easier to do that, so I encourage them to keep that program going since that appraoch works.
How was the initial setup?
My experience with deploying Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that it's super easy; we aren't very automated yet. However, it was very easy to set up the iDRAC part and then go into setting up the hard drives for ESXi without having any problems.
What was our ROI?
Since we've only been a server customer for about three years, we haven't had it even depreciate off our books yet, so it hasn't been long enough to really calculate that ROI.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is easier for me to get licensing and pricing for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers; the licensing, specifically on their competitor's websites, is very difficult to find. In contrast, for Dell PowerEdge, it's very easy on their website to figure out what SKU you need.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before Dell PowerEdge, I looked at Lenovo. However, on the server side, they're not quite there yet; we do use Lenovo for laptops and things. Other than that, I went directly from HPE to Dell.
What other advice do I have?
I don't use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for my AI initiatives yet; primarily, we do that in the cloud right now. In terms of planning for AI on-prem, I have looked at all the AI factory stuff, and it's really appealing. In terms of AI in general, and how we could use it, we have scientific white papers that we go through, and it would be really good for scientists to be able to search through those and get really good responses versus trying to do it manually, which would save them a lot of time.
My advice to other companies considering Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is to go for it; it's a great product, and you won't be disappointed.
Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as a ten out of ten.

We get excellent support and configuration flexibility to do things based on the use case
What is our primary use case?
We use them as cluster nodes for virtualization purposes.
What is most valuable?
I find the flexibility of the build-out in Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers very valuable because we can do different things based on the use case. This flexibility is highlighted by being able to reduce CPU count, RAM count, and the number of drives depending on the site's importance. Additionally, using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers exclusively provides a single source for replacements, assistance, and support. We have a good partnership with our distributor. We've got really good support with them.
What needs improvement?
Power consumption is probably on everyone's top of mind regarding Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers; they use a lot of power and create a lot of heat. Also, the noise levels are pretty high, though I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about it. It'd be nice to get the volume down so that we can use these a little bit more frequently in other use cases where there's maybe a nearby office environment.
One thing that might be a little bit of an improvement is the faceplates. It can't be that expensive to have the LCD screen on all faceplates. We've gotten into this situation where we didn't have the faceplates. We like them. We buy them, but they don't come with the LCD screen. We then have to rebuy those, so it would be nice to have that standardized across the fleet because it can't cost that much more.
For how long have I used the solution?
I personally have been using or working with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for about two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
They have been rock solid for us; we haven't had power supply failures. The drives seem to be the area of most concern, but if we look at the MTBFs on them, they're above industry standard. We don't have a huge install base, so we're not really that good at evaluating that, but drive improvement is definitely something we could look at for the future. We talked to them about some opportunities to test some of their stuff in our lab environment.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Our organization has more than 6,000 people. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale very well with the growing needs of my company. For our current use case, it's very good, and some of the improvements we've seen in storage density and power efficiency gains will only help us.
How are customer service and support?
It has been good. I'd rate them at least a nine out of ten. There was a little hiccup where they sent one of our drives to a location that doesn’t exist anymore, but we don't know exactly why it went there. We might have to check with our account holders that all of our addresses have been updated and get a bit more contact on some of the things that we don't really review as often as we possibly should.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Everything worked really smoothly. They're easy to rack, and I love the rack systems as they are very easy to use and to move. We do a lot of moving of equipment, and having that ability is really good. We encourage them to continue to keep their racking systems the same and include them in the purchase. That's really big and helpful.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
It was before my time, but even now, we're always looking because we have to make sure that we are not vendor locked and missing opportunities. HPE is another big example of something that we would look at. I'm not sure if we are looking at anything else, but we have been looking at the ruggedized version of Dell's product line, including both the XR and some new ones we saw at the conference, which we're going to maybe talk to our vendor about having some demos done for us.
In comparisons between HPE and Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, support really stands out; it's been a little more difficult because our enterprise side of the house is HPE primarily. I don't know if that's a function of HPE or our company's relationship, but Dell, being our sole source through our distributor, has provided us with very good support and response.
What other advice do I have?
The performance metric or benchmark we use to measure success is whether it works. If it's not working, then we have bigger problems. Dell has just been very helpful. We don't have a lot of maintenance that we have to worry about. We have the occasional failure of a drive, but the response time is incredible. We're pretty happy with the product.
My advice for any other company considering Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that the proof is in the execution: just buy them. You can either go based on a salesman's word or just buy some and use them, and you're going to be pleasantly surprised.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten. They're on the right track. They're asking the right questions, and we'll keep working with them to try and make everything as good as it can be.

Remarkably stable and work well for our VMware clusters
What is our primary use case?
My current use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is as a node in a five-node VMware cluster.
What is most valuable?
We receive Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers vSAN-ready, making it quite easy to install the ESXi software and get a VMware cluster up and running.
What needs improvement?
When trying to piece out a server for our builds, there are so many different SKUs—probably 30 to 40 SKUs—that it can be difficult to read. If that could be condensed a little bit, that would help.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for at least five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not had any issues with stability. Considering some of the environments aren't great, I think they are remarkably stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have more than 5,000 people in our organization. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale for my company's needs. For the way that we are using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we have more than enough resources to run the VMs that we have running on our clusters. We currently have about ten clusters, with plans to bring on another ten or so in the next four to five years.
How are customer service and support?
It's been great. We haven't had to call much, but I did have to call a couple of weeks ago, and the responsiveness was great. They sent out a replacement hard drive very quickly.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
It was before my time. I am not sure what we were using before Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have not evaluated any other solutions during my time using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers; however, Broadcom's purchase of VMware has us on edge, so we might be looking at competitors in the near future.
In terms of our partnership, I feel Dell is partnering with us effectively, although there is a concern regarding the new owner of VMware. I am more concerned about the new licensing model and cost of VMware going forward, not the interoperability with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What other advice do I have?
For AI purposes, I see it being used for troubleshooting, where we gather all kinds of logs and monitor servers, software, and related items. I'd want to get it to a point where the AI could pinpoint where the issue is and maybe even resolve it.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers overall as a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Seamless hosting and connected storage drive value and reliability
What is our primary use case?
My role in using or managing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers involves storage, virtualization, and server support.
What is most valuable?
The features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers that I find most valuable include the ability to have different servers and different services hosted on one server, and the ability to connect them between other storage servers or appliances. These features definitely provide additional value to the end user, customers, company, and are reliable within the time frames that customers and clients demand.
Looking at the new models, they have greatly improved the cooling system, which is a significant advantage. In my experience, there were times when components overheated, but they have improved that aspect.
What needs improvement?
One area where Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers could improve is integration. The BYO feature, which allows users to bring their own license, is a particularly good aspect of the system.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for 10 years at my current company. Our company has been using PowerEdge for at least 20 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very stable overall. The support, components, and OS are all reliable. We have experienced occasional downtimes, crashes, or performance issues, but nothing serious. When we need hardware replacement, such as RAM or a hard drive, the support is very fast.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
To expand the usage of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we simply have added more servers and equipment.
How are customer service and support?
I would evaluate the support from Dell as exceptional. They have highly capable and trained personnel who are knowledgeable. We have a very good relationship with them, and they maintain transparency regarding reported issues and solutions.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have Pure Storage, which we implemented less than two years ago, alongside Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We chose Pure Storage based on the benefits of flash storage and rapid support. As a global company, everything our corporate office decides is replicated to all locations around the globe, which is one of the key differences.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is typically very smooth. We haven't had many issues. Usually, when we deploy a server with PowerEdge, it's a very smooth transition.
What was our ROI?
We started leasing with Dell, which has provided good CapEx and budgeting return financially. We are on a 16-month lease. One of the advantages is that we don't pay the CapEx immediately, and it allows us to have the latest Dell technology after three or five years, depending on our leasing contract.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When trying to quote devices and servers for our Mexico City offices directly with Dell instead of through a partner, we encountered some challenges. It took several months to negotiate appropriate pricing, requiring escalation to the director of Dell Mexico and communication with Dell US. Eventually, we reached an agreement with satisfactory pricing.
What other advice do I have?
We are currently at the early stage of AI usage. However, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers will definitely play a part in our AI-driven initiatives in the future. Currently, we haven't applied AI on Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as it's still in development. It will be part of our future development of AI. We are planning to focus on automation.
For companies considering Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I recommend relying on Dell technology and their expertise. The innovation that Dell offers is crucial.
I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as nine out of ten.

Integrated monitoring and competitive pricing enhance business efficiency
What is our primary use case?
We currently use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers to run Microsoft Hyper-V and Red Hat VCI.
In addition to that, AX nodes that are adjacent to the regular PowerEdge servers are highly customized. The test cases we are running mainly involve internal processing on data that we have, and also for company-wide cases.
We host a portal for everyone to interact with for internal lookups and trying to steer everyone away from going public with OpenAI ChatGPT. We have our own internal search now, and it's also able to ingest our internal documentation sites, in addition to our other data sets that we have.
How has it helped my organization?
My current organization really wouldn't be anywhere without the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. All we've been buying have been PowerEdge servers. It's pretty mission-critical for us. The vast majority of our regular PowerEdges we've got from that, and we also have FCs and some older tech as well, however, those are being replaced by our Red Hat VCI ones, which are the AX nodes.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is their integrated iDRAC and the way that the servers are built; it's pretty space optimized, so users can get a lot of functionality in there for whatever they're working on.
The monitoring for the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is great; we get all the alerts, we get everything about it, and we avoid outages thanks to the features of the iDRAC.
We got all the alerts we needed in time, so we knew we could get parts dispatched and everything else, and it's gotten better. They've got AI monitoring for the stuff, so now they're telling us about drives that are failing before we notice them ourselves.
What needs improvement?
There's not really much to be done that hasn't already happened; they've shifted over now, and users can plug in on the latest models as they have USBC ports if they need to console in.
There isn't really much in need of improvement; it's really up to whatever you decide to buy. You can buy all the right options and get what you need, however, you have to be careful and make sure you buy what makes sense.
I'd appreciate seeing more options in terms of expandability for certain Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers models. The expandability issues I've experienced are mainly with the 700 series of the R series chassis, primarily around what can fit in for PCI expansion cards. It's fair, however, there might be some room for more flexibility around it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have personal experience with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for the last three and a half years at my current organization, and at a prior work, I had experience with PowerEdge servers for another five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The reliability and skills of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are pretty reliable; I haven't had to worry about it too much. Even if something does go wrong, the monitoring is pretty good, and we get good alerts on whatever needs to be replaced.
We haven't really had an outage due to hardware failure, definitely not on the PowerEdge servers themselves. Sometimes we might have something fail, a fan or power supply - things happen, however, it hasn't really caused an outage.
How are customer service and support?
I evaluate the customer service support for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as pretty rock solid and top-notch, especially if you get the right people in the right areas. Particularly around PowerEdges, you can almost depend on getting the right person you want.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We've looked at other solutions. Folks I used to work with, some of them moved on now. We've had experience working with many IBMs and HPs in the past. We're still getting the best value right now sticking with the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers platform.
How was the initial setup?
I've helped deploy Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. I've done everything with them; I've racked them myself personally and been through that experience, so it's not bad.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing and licensing of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very competitive.
We've gotten some pretty good deals along the way; you can find anything to fit any budget. We've even gone the other route of actually buying some things for non-production; they've got some pretty good pricing on their Dell used product marketplace as well, though the name is slipping my mind right now. You can get what you need for a good price.
What other advice do I have?
The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers platform has improved over the years; I've seen the evolution with it. I wasn't too fond originally of some of the older PowerEdges, to be honest, however, as time moved on, the current generations are providing what I am looking for.
I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a ten out of ten.

Provides the ability to extend the hardware and reduces energy consumption
What is our primary use case?
We are running VMware vSphere and regular Windows servers. We use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for server implementation, virtualization, storage, so basically virtualization and server support.
How has it helped my organization?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have helped to reduce unplanned production downtime. They have also helped to reduce the consumption of energy. We have seen decreased consumption levels through our monitoring systems. The cooling system has been significantly improved in the newer versions and models of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.
What is most valuable?
The optimization of hardware and the ability to extend the hardware are valued features.
What needs improvement?
Pricing might be an area for improvement. There is competition, and lowering prices could be beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using it for at least ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have managed to reduce the consumption of energy. We have seen that in the levels of our monitoring systems, which definitely show a decrease in consumption.
How are customer service and support?
I've contacted them many times. The overall support is very good with first-class service.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are using Pure Storage—the flash drives from Pure Storage.
How was the initial setup?
It was easy.
What was our ROI?
At the end, the cost benefit will be greater than the original investments. We just implemented the solution in our Mexico City offices. This is the first month for the actual payment. The benefit in the long run financially is structured so the company does not decapitalize. In the three or five years, we will have the newer equipment once the leasing is over or is renewed.
What other advice do I have?
We are at the initial stage in our AI journey as a multinational level company. We are still working on testing, but it hasn't been totally implemented yet. We have done some automation with Python and are trying to use CoPilot for small tasks, but it hasn't been developed to a large scale. We are still in progress at this point.
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a ten out of ten.
