Initially, I thought it was my google WiFi and my ISP but after hours of troubleshooting both, we discovered that the internet ports quit working on the modem itself. The voice connection still works but the internet connection had stopped. The lights are blinking rapidly but no service. Had reset the modem twice to no avail. I had to go back to my old modem but unfortunately, I can’t get my VOIP telephone service which I am already paying for. I am not willing to shed another $250 plus for a new modem. It would have been cheaper to rent from Xfinity, if I knew that you couldn’t spend on Netgear to build reliable equipment and stand by them.

I had planned to run a wireless router from one, and connect direct to my computer from the other. This did not work and I had to call customer service. The customer service rep informed me that I could only use one of the ethernet ports, so that is what I am doing. But what a waste of a product!

You cannot call on the phone to another comcast customer. We have requested help from customer service and they have not been able to fix the problem.

My latest attempt is with a new netgear docsis 3.1 modem with voice. It seems to work well. It is fast an sleek looking. It does have to be paired with a router for a home network. It is one of the few docsis 3.1modems I have found that support voice services.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not buy this modum Do not buy this modem if you are an Xfinity ISP subscriber. Best Buy only provides a limited time warranty. NetGear requires a paid support subscription to discuss issues with their products for 3 months after purchase. Xfinity will change settings that requires NetGear to change modem settings. The subscription is well over $100/year. Do not believe the statement on the box “Supports Xfinity internet service”. NetGear does not stand behind their products and will not offer a refund when they do not work. Call in support wait times are 1 - 1 1/2 hours and usually transfer to a second or third agent.

Why I got this unit was b/c of the 4 ports. After much consternation and to my chagrin I come to find out (via message boards and not Netgear customer service that for home use you can only use one port. I consider this to be very misleading advertising. That was a full day spent on this issue that I will never get back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Failure to launch I was able to get the gateway to work and connect to my ISP but I was not able to get any WiFi from either of my two routers that I tried to connect to it. I spent about 6 hours on it and came away from the whole experience defeated and exhausted. I ended up unplugging it and going back to my old ISP modem for now until I figure out how to get this thing to work correctly.

Ran that Gateway bridged with a Netgear R6400 router for several years, but my 100Mbps plan recently began giving me 20-80Mbps speeds and nothing I did would fix it. Fed up I ordered the CM1150V from Netgear and now get consistent 95-128Mbps 3-rooms away from the modem router setup. The installation was super easy. The Nighthawk Cable Voice Modem will pay for itself in just 13-months. Thank you Netgear!

Thankfully the packaging was minimal and the easy setup guide was very straight forward. This is a modem only.. not a router combo unit which is exactly what I wanted. There are advanced features if you have Gig service or faster to where you should be able to aggregate the 2 WAN ports for multi gig speeds. In the advanced section there are options for more enhanced voice calling options. Activating with Comcast/Xfinity was done straight through the registration interface on the modem... no need to call Comcast!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product but instructions mediocre Switched from Arris Surboard 3.0 to this CM DOCSIS 3.1 for higher speed. Had trouble getting higher speed for several days. Have to be careful sequence you reset/reboot CM vs your Router. Also, CM has 4 ethernet ports, but on port 1 has internet. Other 3 are only useable as a LAN without internet - so strange!!!

So why have 4 ports. Its deceiving in that I thought I could hook up a couple other devices to the modem. Otherwise, I like the modem.

Because of the quality of the modem, it actually highlighted problems with my physical cable connections that xFinity had to come out and repair. It has trouble working with my Google Nest WiFi mesh system, but the modem on its own has established a strong signal and never drops. Overall I’m happy with the modem, just not so much with how it works with my router.

In a typical home situation, only one should be used, which is confusing. Since I need to locate my WiFi router centrally and this unit lacks any routing functions, I had to by a separate wired-only router. For the price, Netgear should include this functionality.

I called the carrier and was able to resolve the voice set-up. It has worked flawlessly since set up.

The cable modem also covered my hard-wired phones so I needed something that would also handle that. This is without a doubt the best that I found. Love it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CM1150V review I only gave the cm1150v 2 stars because it did not stay connected and took hours for it to rebind to my ISP after a week of troubleshooting and having my line and booster replace the problem still existed Netgear blamed my ISP my ISP blamed Netgear and the issue was not resolved I was able to keep a stable connection on my older modem. I returned the cm1150v due to the connection issue. When it was working it was very fast but the connection diminished with time and required a reset after 24hrs of uptime. I do not have this issue with a replacement modem from a different manufacturer. I do not know if it was a hardware issue with the modem or just DOCIS 3.1 as my replacement is a 3.0

I started working from home, along with my girlfriend, the equipment from Comcast wasn’t even coming close to do what it was supposed to do. So like anyone who had some extra money and is now dependent on their jobs from home, I dropped almost $600 for this modem and a router system since this modem and other modems alike didn’t project a WiFi signal for voice over with Comcast. I installed everything 07/15/2020 and it all had worked flawlessly, until 10/03/2020. This is when my nightmare began. Over the course of a week and a half, and almost loosing my job, having Comcast come out and inspect out internet feed, and being told it’s not the internet feed, but our modem. I spoke with SEVEN different actual tech people at Netgear, finally the seventh person had agreed that it was the modem itself was bad and sent me a form for a new one. Now you might think that’s not too bad, but for that week and a half I was resetting my modem 2-3 times a day EVERY DAY. After the fact not only did they submit my information wrong on my first call, by misspelling my name, my email and putting in the WRONG purchase date and being made to provide proof that it was purchased on the 15th, is without a doubt the most ridiculous hassle I had to go through. You only have a 90 day phone tech support, if you have a case open prior to the 90 days they don’t care and will force you to buy more phone troubleshooting protection to resolve your issue. You must talk to a tech to get it replaced within the year. So now fast forward to my replacement, it has been installed and has been working flawlessly. Would I buy it again? No, nor will I ever buy anything from Netgear ever again, all from the HORRIBLE SERVICE I had to go through, to have my problem resolved, that should have been resolved on day 1 of my series of calls.

The first problem was the WiFi would constantly drop...I am talking every 10 minutes or so on 2.4 and 5 GHz band. Next problem is the Ethernet connection was somehow slower than my old ISP provided router/modem combo. Last problem was the terrible smart connect feature which already made the bad router even worse with it dropping connections left and right.

Looks online and found that this is a supported voice modem for my Comcast plan. Activation was very easy and runs a little faster than the leased gateway. Paired it with my own router and everything is much better than Comcast Xfi console.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Modem!!! works flawlessly with Xfinity This a great modem ive had it for 2 years now and have had zero problems and have saved a ton of money because of it! after reading all the bad reviews I was dying laughing most of them I could tell had no idea how this equipment works one guy says it doesnt work with Comcast LOL It does! you probably set it up wrong ..People Comcast doesn't want you to buy these things because it costs them money so what they do when you have issues is they tell you its broken when its not .. when I set this up I didn't even have to talk to anyone from Comcast ...before you buy this read up on it watch a video etc and you won't have any problems .. another thing because you have 1000 Gb speed internet that doesnt mean your going to get that speed to your devices .. the more devices you have the lower your speed is going to be going to them.. I will say this this modem is great my speed was improved and I dont have to pay rental fees etc anymore .. also thank you for the entertainment with the reviews claiming it doesnt work etc I love coming to sites like this and Best Buy to laugh at peoples reviews when its user error 99.9% of the time .. educate yourself before you make a big ticket electronic purchase

When I called Dell they quickly answered my concerns and also expedited the order. Installation and setup was very straight forward. I have been using the modem for about 2 weeks and the performance has been right on spec. No loss of speed, highly reliable. Had to replace my home phones with VTEC because I don't know how to rewire the old telephone input box but I expected that and I am very happy with the new system. Exactly what I should have expected!

To correct the issue, with incredible help from very patient and stubborn Netgear people in Honduras, The Philippines, and USA. For a period, the internet would drop out. Now all is well and I am quite happy with the modem. I am not seeing significant change in speed, but that is likely due to the house feed from Xfinity.

Despite rebooting, restoring to factory settings, changing ethernet cables, have Comcast technician investigate, buying new router, it wasn't until I swapped out this modem and reinstalled its predecessor that I was able to regain internet access. This took three weeks and was very frustrating particulary when part of my work now requires reliable internet access.

Hooked everything up and worked great for a week then modem would lose connection and need to be rebooted. Family is schooling and working from home, so need dependable access. I reverted back to older modem and have had no issues. Tried to research issue before switching and found many similar situations but found no clear path to resolve. Was going to return modem but 90 days had just passed. Now I want to resolve issue but don’t know how to fix modem while maintaining internet connection.

I had planned to run a wireless router from one, connect direct to my computer from the other and one connect to 8 port switch. This did not work and I had to call customer service. The customer service rep informed me that I could only use one of the ethernet ports. I returned the product. Misleading information.

The worst part of it is that Netgear support wanted roughly $140 in a support contract to even offer a fix. This is because my calls to them occurred after the 90 day window for free tech support. Back with Xfinity now and will likely never consider another product from Netgear.

Can’t really test the maximum speeds since we are not on a Gigabit speed plan but at least the modem provides the speed we are paying for. Worth the investment cost over time.

Has no ability to disable the sip algorithm which I need for my voip service! Can't use the phone ports as the device connects to the ethernet ports.... I spent 250.00$+ on this router and it collects dust well!

I got 480MB/s with speed test. So far no issues with modem. It is nice to have a single modem again that can handle voice and data together. My only complaint is the current price for this modem is way too high.

My provider agent was very helpful setting it up. I had heard tons of horror stories about providers hassling customers for using their own equipment. After 3 weeks in use,I get download speeds up to 500mb and 280+ regularly with wifi. I still need to get a new lan card to use ethernet to get 1gig speeds. Overall fantastic so far.

Than they wanted to send out a technician and I would bare the cost. This is not good advertising of your product when Comcast is the only carrier at this moment to who advertise foe 1gb speed. I reinstalled my old Arris Modem SB6190 and was back on the Internet in 2 minutes.

AND the Comcast box is so easy that grandma can configure it. However, this is exactly how Comcast gets most customers to lease their mediocre gateway. If you want to squeeze the absolute best possible speed out of the bandwidth you are paying for, and get impeccable voice quality, invest in this Netgear BEAST-of-a-modem. It is win-win.

Netgear model CM 1150v at the same DOCSIS 3.0 and maxed out at 312.6mb. Even without 3.1 it was significantly faster and stable. I needed a modem that has a phone modem and hard wire only so this was perfect for what I needed, as I have my own router. Speed on the router topped off nearly identical. It is a good investment when future speed requires a DOCSIS 3.1 as in my area waiting Comcast/xfinity to increase their speed.

When I got home all I had to do was turn it on wand wait for it be activated. Also had bought Netgear Nighthawk R8000 router. The phone I had to get with after the phone was transferred from Frontier all that we need was to have them provisional the phone, and off went. This modem has been rock solid, at almost 1 gig download from day one.

Setup was drop-dead simple...in less than 15 minutes I had voice and internet connectivity. Plus, my cabled computer connection speed is significantly higher, as the CM1150V is taking full advantage of my high speed Xfinity connection. Highly recommend this product if you have Xfinity and need voice.

I have spent 15+ hours with both Xfinity and Netgear customer support and all both parties did was shift to the other party. Read web posts before purchasing and complete gigabit upgrade/validate stable performance before return window expires(unfortunately I didn't. Ended up with Xfinity (rental) modem which was set up and stable in 15 minutes

This CM1150V not only gave me that, but provided expanded phone services, prioritization, and link aggregation capabilities, and all in a stylish, easy to install, simple set-up package. Feel I can now take on any new upcoming network services my provider can send my way. Technically, I just "future proofed" myself with a great product!

Assuming it was a line problem I had Comcast check the line. It was fine. I then replaced my modem with a Comcast modem and everything worked fine. Called Netgear and after much run around I received an RMA number and sent it in for a replacement. They sent me the same modem back, so I connected it hoping it was refurbished. It was not. The modem instantly started dropping the connection. I put it back in the box, replaced it with my Comcast modem and all it well.

The the WiFi router I paired with the Nighthawk modem did not work out so had to fall back to the Comcast modem till a replacement WiFi Router arrives. During the time the Nighthawk modem was activated on the Comcast System the voice worked great and did not have enough time to fully test the speed of the ethernet ports or WiFi router.

Started dropping my internet connection right after the 3 month software warranty expired. Had to reboot 3-4 times a day to get internet service. My ISP came out twice and verified it was not a service issue. Every time I called tech support, their solution was to press the Reset button on the modem & tell me it was working fine. They wouldn’t transfer me to level 2 support until I paid $89. A new modem costs $100-150. No, thanks! Went with an Arris product. Done with Netgear and their poor tech support.

Finally decided to upgrade my Xfinity provided and woefully unreliable Modem/Router combo to this Modem and Netgear R7000 Router (which I also highly recommend and the difference is incredible! Before I was only getting 90 Mbps and frequent dropouts and now I've been getting a consistent 200 Mbps (keep in mind I'm only on a 175 Mbps plan) and so far absolutely no drop outs or slow downs! I was expecting a minor improvement but I was not expecting this much of a improvement! Set-up was straight-forward and easy aswell! I would totally recommend this Modem for anyone looking for a upgrade with Voice capability and is definitely worth the price (now saving $14 a month in rental fees) All in all I am very happy with this purchase and will be buying Netgear products for years to come.

Once I understood how it worked it has worked fine. I thought each of the 4 ethernet ports had access to the internet. However, only one port has access to the internet. You need to connect a router to this modem to give additional devices access to the internet. The other 3 ethernet ports on the modem are worthless unless you buy additional connections from Xfinity.

It is a highly unstable device connected to Comcast but it does work even if it loses connectivity when Comcast pushes its configuration updates. Comcast controls and administers it entirely - you may only turn it on or off. It has not router functionality - there are no DHCP tools, or firewall or connectivity testing tools, so you would need another device to perform security and device connectivity functions. You will, in about 18 months, save $14/month in Comcast fees.

As such, it has worked perfectly--improving my wired and wireless internet speeds and very stable. The only issue I have is it was a bear to install--not my part, that was a breeze. But having Comcast "provision" the modem took almost two hours! But once it was done, it was done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Avoid this Modem! I purchased this modem in May 2020. It worked great for 6 straight weeks, not one issue. Then we started having periodic connection issues. I called Netgear and they attempted to help me troubleshoot the issue but kept blaming the ISP. I had Xfinity out three times, they even ran a new line from the street to the house. I was still having intermittent connection issues. Finally, I decided to add a small fan next to the modem thinking that it may have heat issues even though this is in our normally cold basement. Adding the fan significantly reduced our intermittent connection issues but they were not completely eliminated. Throughout this process I spent a total of 3-4 hours on support calls with Netgear. They finally agreed to replace the modem, which I had to pay shipping to receive it within a reasonable time ($$. The new modem again worked for a few weeks without issue, long enough for the support on my original purchase to expire. The modem is still under warranty but you have to pay them for support to get warranty assistance. The fan trick made things worse with the replacement modem. If the fan is within a foot of the modem I lose my connect nearly instantly, it must have zero EM shielding, weird that the original did not have this issue. I then rented Xfinity's modem for the past 2 months and have had zero outages, none, not one issue. I then reinstalled the Netgear. Again, it worked fine for a couple weeks but then the intermittent issues returned. We have twice lost the connection completely, having to reboot the modem to get connected again. So either the replacement modem is also defective or Xfinity is triggering issues to get us to pay their rental fees. Having owned a previous modem for several years that worked flawlessly I highly doubt the issue is with Xfinity. Unfortunately, I had to replace that modem to support the faster service I upgraded to. Now I am stuck with a very expensive brick modem and having to still pay rental fees to maintain a reliable connection, which is clearly what I was trying to avoid by purchasing this modem.

After purchase, the next day I called Netgear for help with the installation of the equipment. After a lengthy amount of time working with Netgear folks, was told to contact my service provider. I called Comcast, explained the situation, worked with them for a lengthy amount of time, and they could not help. I spent about fives hours on the phone that day and became so frustrated, I packed both my Netgear modem and router and returned it to the store. As a 73 year old, I’m too old for this kind of aggravation. I cannot fault the equipment because it may be totally fine, but I never got the opportunity to find out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DOES NOT WORK WITH XFINITY I bought this today thinking it would work for my 1gb Xfinity service, but regardless of what the box says, the company refuses to service this router. Don't use this as a selling point if it is literally just a lie. I really don't get how you're able to print that on the box if the tech assistant says they will not service the router

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poorly Engineered Device Like others notice the modem will barely be able to last a year. For me the initial issue was shoddy, cheap design which uses a plastic 'screw' to apply a downward pressure onto the modem's CPU. In my case it had become dislodged. This had lead to issues where it would sporadically work. You could hear a rattling in the case. I had to take apart the modem & noticed the screw bit was broken. I also noticed they were using some crap thermal pad. I went and bought a new thermal pad & reapplied the heat sink using a screw to replace the broken bit. It has fixed the modem however the shoddy construction has caused issues for the modem & still suffers from the existing, built-in, ware & tare that makes the connection finiky where I'll have to start the modem with zero ethernet connection otherwise it fails to get past boot diagnostics. I wish I had noticed the CPU heatsink issue sooner as to avoid the damage of this shoddy design. A nearly $300 dollar modem should be better engineered, not just engineered for quick fabrication & short lifespan. When it operates the speeds are nice as it does meet the standard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome modem and a couple of excellent WiFi routers! We use Spectrum cable and we were tired of unreliable service. I had plans in October to replace the equipment and upgrade the service plan. A family member asked, what would you like for Christmas? My response was A Nighthawk modem with Voice! Fastforward, I bought a MR70/MS70 WiFi router in October. December I bought a RAX42 WiFi router for Christmas also. Spectrum only allows their modem to connect to voice service ?? I was disheartened. I connected all of them up anyway and glad I did! The Nighthawk System works flawlessly. Day in, day out, even though Spectrum doesn't officially support my Nighthawk CM1150V Modem. The system is running 25% faster than Spectrum's internet service speeds! NETGEAR NIGHTHAWK SYSTEMS are the best for my internet needs!
