Management capabilities improve data operations and integration

What is our primary use case? We are using HPE Alletra Storage as a block storage to our virtualization environment, in the central data center and in the hospital data centers too. What is most valuable? It is much easier to manage HPE Alletra Storage systems compared to the storages before, such as the 3PAR storage. Previously, virtual machines needed to be running to manage this. With HPE Alletra Storage, it's cloud integrated, so it's easier to make it up and running. In the healthcare sector, we have just a few engineers, so the human capacity is under the normal or wanted level, and with these automated technologies, these integrated features of HPE Alletra Storage help us to integrate the new systems to our systems. HPE Alletra Storage has made it much easier to operate this system compared to before, which has reduced our data management operation expenses. HPE Alletra Storage has helped reduce the time spent on capacity planning, but we often use system integrators to help us with the capacity planning and the newest technologies make it easier. We have a lot of data in healthcare, so HPE Alletra Storage helps us to reduce the cost by facilitating the management of duplications. HPE Alletra Storage provides a cloud-like operational model on-prem for managing data operations, such as deployment, provisioning, and data management. I'm currently planning to deploy private cloud-like operations to the hospitals because they don't have engineers, storage engineers, compute engineers, virtualization engineers, and with this cloud technology, the operational aspects could be much easier. What do I think about the stability of the solution? HPE Alletra Storage is absolutely stable and reliable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? HPE Alletra Storage does scale with our growing needs. Currently, there is no plan to expand the usage of HPE Alletra Storage; it's enough for the current deployment. How are customer service and support? We have no problems with the customer support for HPE Alletra Storage. We always can reach the Hungarian support team, and if needed, they can ask for help from other engineers, so it's fast and effective. How would you rate customer service and support? Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? When we adopted HPE Alletra Storage, we were using another solution similar. We were using 3PAR, and we are changing our 3PAR storages to HPE Alletra Storage. Which other solutions did I evaluate? In hospitals, we're using Dell solutions for storage, and we have HPE solutions. If a hospital is using Dell infrastructures, we try to upgrade it to a homogeneous platform, so we're planning with Dell. But in our central data centers, we are using HPE solutions, and there were no other solutions we found that could be better for us, so we are thinking about HPE technologies. What other advice do I have? The management capabilities of the storage system might be the most preferred feature of HPE Alletra Storage. We have not used the AI features of HPE GreenLake AIOps yet, but we are planning to use it and implement it in the operational part. I don't have the numbers to quantify how much HPE Alletra Storage has reduced our data management operation expenses. I'm not up to date with topics regarding pricing, setup costs, and licensing for HPE Alletra Storage. However, I have no problems with it, as our HPE contact can answer all of the questions we have. Effortless deployment and reliable performance streamline VM management

What is our primary use case? Our main use cases for HPE Alletra Storage are strictly for block storage, with no SMB, no NFS, no SAN replication, snapshots, or anything; it's strictly block. How has it helped my organization? One example of how the features of HPE Alletra Storage benefited my organization is the Nimble reliability. We had a single hard drive failure with all the other units we had, and we got a notification saying, 'Hey, we've detected a hard drive failure. Parts coming out.' It arrived the next day, and it was good. What is most valuable? The features of HPE Alletra Storage that I most prefer are its speed, as we were having issues with some of our VMs running into wait time on the older all-flash unit, and moving to the new Alletra's fixed the issue with no tweaking, no tuning, and it's awesome—basically set and forget, as Nimble has always been. HPE Alletra Storage scales with the growing needs of my organization, eliminating the planning for growth since it tells me, 'You have this amount of capacity, this is your deduplication, we estimate you could throw on this many VMs or this amount of storage.' I just sign into the stats page and see what I can do. Regarding capacity planning, HPE Alletra Storage has helped us. We used the calculator on the website to figure out what we would need, and when we started moving over the VMs, we were surprised with more caching and deduplication than we had on the other units, so now we don't have to think about capacity. I would assess HPE Alletra Storage's capacity efficiency as good. It was only half-populated when we purchased it, allowing us to buy additional disks and slide them into place as we've done with the Nimble's in the past. Our usage of HPE Alletra Storage is unique. We just use it as two standalone units for block storage, without replication or a metro cluster. I wouldn't say HPE Alletra Storage has reduced our data management operations expenses since we spec'd it out with the size we needed and with the projected growth. HPE Alletra Storage offers a cloud-operational model on-premises for managing data infrastructure through GreenLake, as the web interface provides access to the GUI, which features the same interface as the rest of the HPE website. What needs improvement? To improve HPE Alletra Storage, a couple of things could be addressed. This is more on the support side, as the initial cost is for a very large company. Especially for smaller companies, it would be nice if there were more disk add-ons or incentives, such as 'If you buy our system with our forever warranty, you get new controllers every three years.' For how long have I used the solution? We have been using HPE Alletra Storage since it was still Nimble before HPE bought them, and we went through the CS100, 300, the hybrid flash, the all-flash, and then the Alletra, which we got last year around March. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I assess the stability and reliability of HPE Alletra Storage as good. It works just as the Nimble's have, and we haven't had any issues; it's basically set it and forget it. How are customer service and support? I would evaluate customer service and technical support for HPE Alletra Storage as good. We ran into a small issue with some licenses that came through email not working for whatever reason, and we had to get a couple of different technical people involved who were confused and just regenerated new licenses, which fixed the issue. How would you rate customer service and support? Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Prior to adopting HPE Alletra Storage, I was using the Nimbles and we also had some older 3PAR equipment still floating around. How was the initial setup? My experience deploying HPE Alletra Storage was pretty simple. I basically unboxed it, put the rails in, slid it in, and turned it on. It couldn't have been any easier, and I was happy, seeing no improvements needed. What was our ROI? I wouldn't say we have seen an ROI with HPE Alletra Storage as we purchased it knowing what we were going to get, so it's just there, and we use it. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Regarding pricing, setup cost, and licensing for HPE Alletra Storage, we talked about the pricing earlier, so it would be nice if there were incentives to use. When we purchased everything, it came with the GreenLake support and add-ons, which seemed okay. It was around $1,000 on the bill, and while that doesn't account for much when you're buying something for $60,000, it could be better with credits or something for the support person running after it—even if it's not monetary, it could be 'Get one of our HPE shirts.' Which other solutions did I evaluate? Before selecting HPE Alletra Storage, I considered Pure heavily. The only reason HPE won over Pure was that HPE had the GreenLake integration and was still rolling out the Gen11s and Gen12s, promising more features to come. Pure was substantially cheaper and significantly faster than HPE Alletra Storage. What other advice do I have? My advice to other organizations considering HPE Alletra Storage is to go with it if you have other HPE hardware as it integrates so seamlessly. If you don't, I would suggest Pure, as Pure is still faster when put up against the Nimble; they offer better incentives, but since we have HPE everything, it was just better to stay in the same ecosystem. Provides effortless management and excellent customer support for warehouse operations

What is our primary use case? My main use cases for HPE Alletra Storage are for warehouses. How has it helped my organization? It benefits my organization by reducing management needs. What is most valuable? The features of HPE Alletra Storage that I appreciate the most involve less management. The benefit of HPE Alletra Storage is that it doesn't need much management. HPE Alletra Storage is effective since it automatically has deduplication, requiring less management, and requires minimal effort; after purchase, it automatically provides deduplication, compression, and related functionality. It helps reduce data management operation expenses. I manage 30 remotely and it's easy to manage now. We can reduce time spent on capacity planning. The capacity efficiency is pretty good. There's less management. You don't have to do anything. We get cloud-like management on-prem. What needs improvement? I'm not sure how the solution could be improved. I'm not looking for new features. It's doing the job. The only challenge was having to register with GreenLake, even though we weren't using it. Some places didn't have access to the internet - and if you don't have access to the internet, how can you register? If you can't register, you can't create data storage. This was one of the big drawbacks. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using HPE Alletra Storage for about three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? HPE Alletra Storage has been stable and reliable. I've never had any issues or crashes; it continues doing its work. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have more than we need. In a couple of places, we had to add another shelf and that was very plug-and-play. How are customer service and support? I would evaluate customer service and technical support for HPE Alletra Storage as excellent. HPE Alletra has much better service than 3PAR and others. On a scale from one to ten, I would rate customer service and technical support at a ten. When you call, you don't have to go from person to person. With 3PAR and others, you call and they direct you to another person, then level one, level two, level three, which can be frustrating. With HPE Alletra or Nimble, the person who answers your call can handle level one, level two, and level three support; they can do anything. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Prior to adopting HPE Alletra Storage, I was using HPE MSA to address similar needs. We also used Nimble. We wanted better performance and scalability. How was the initial setup? My experience with deploying HPE Alletra Storage is that it's really easy. It's a one-click process and not difficult to configure. There was a simple configuration process; there is not much to do as it's an easy setup. What was our ROI? I have not seen a return on investment with HPE Alletra Storage. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I didn't purchase the solution; I don't have pricing experience. Which other solutions did I evaluate? I used to have EMC, however, then we used Nimble for smaller places, which was awesome. These were the other solutions I considered before selecting HPE Alletra Storage. The positive standout in my evaluation process when comparing these options was that HPE Alletra Storage requires very little work and is easily manageable remotely. I am not aware of any drawbacks of any of the solutions. What other advice do I have? My advice to other organizations considering HPE Alletra Storage would be to make it more efficient, make it easier to manage, make it more reliable, and have better service. High level of increased disk space and speed with the new features of the server

What is our primary use case? We have used HPE Alletra Storage on two or three occasions for proof-of-concept tests at the storage level in relation to Dell's tools. What is most valuable? We use HPE Alletra Storage to create zones with HP tools, generally with generation 11 and 12 servers. The most significant feature would be the integration with the HP generation 11 and 12 servers that we currently have. The greatest benefit we have seen is at the level of increased disk space and speed with the new features of the HPE Alletra Storage server. It gives us a lot of assistance since it is a complete solution that gives us the focus at the storage level and at the level of storage and consumption of resources at the level of virtualization processing. It reduces the use of resources by almost 90% and focuses more on the solution of the alerts that are found with the jobs that are running, and detecting alerts or opportunities for improvement in performance. It is a good option for the servers to self-provision, presenting them with storage at the SAN level. What needs improvement? According to the characteristics we have seen of the equipment, the licensing could be greatly reduced, given the integration it has with the tools. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? According to the capacity of the HPE Alletra Storage equipment, several racks could be filled, and it would provide us with a lot of storage capacity according to the scalability we need at the bank level. The scalability would have to be evaluated at the level of tool compatibility, since being different technologies, there would have to be a bridge or a mechanism to be able to do the migration. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We currently use Dell's technology in relation to what is Brocade technology at the SAN network level, which allows us to map various technologies such as HP, Dell, and Broadcom. What was our ROI? We don't typically assess ROI for storage management, but theoretically, with the improved bandwidth, processing power, and speed it should drastically cut down on slow and low disk alerts from our monitoring platform. What other advice do I have? Due to the topology and the amount of data and the type of data we use at the banking level, not all of it is 100% migrated to the cloud. We opt for a private cloud that allows us to save that data for the amount of time that the custody agreement that the owner of the data proposes. The company does not marry any specific storage. It focuses more on the characteristics and the use that can be given to it and, above all, the performance for the systems with which it currently works. I rate HPE Alletra Storage five out of 10. Delivers exceptional speed and simplifies data management with cloud-like operations

What is our primary use case? Our main use case for the HPE Alletra Storage is VMs. What is most valuable? The feature of the HPE Alletra Storage I appreciate most is the speed. These features have benefited our organization by providing general data for our customers. The GreenLake AI Ops enables me to get assistance from the senior support engineers without having to go through support escalations. The solution has reduced our data management operations expenses; however, I could not provide a specific number since we were offline for a few years. The solution has helped reduce the time I spend on capacity planning by approximately 80%. I would assess HPE Alletra Storage's capacity efficiency as oversizing everything, so we have never really hit any kind of limit. HPE Alletra Storage provides a cloud-like operational model on-premises for managing data infrastructure. The cloud-like operational model has affected my operations such as deployment, provisioning, and day-to-day management by making it very easy to navigate and easy to get to everything I need. What needs improvement? There is nothing I can think of offhand to improve HPE Alletra Storage or for additional features that should be included in the next release. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using HPE Alletra Storage for probably eight months now, while we have had Nimbles for years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Improved performance and handling of concurrency issues with enhanced parallelism

What is our primary use case? My main use cases for HPE Alletra Storage are within a financial institution, specifically in banking. How has it helped my organization? An example of how these features have benefited my organization is that with Nimble, I had a problem in concurrency, and our database struggled with managing the hardware, which was the main reason I purchased HPE Alletra Storage. Currently, I have plans in the next month to install another HPE Alletra Storage unit to build a secondary storage. In the main data center, I have HPE Alletra Storage and need a second secondary data center. What is most valuable? Using HPE Alletra Storage has improved the performance of my storage and alleviated a bottleneck. The most important feature is the parallelism of several cores in HPE Alletra Storage. I assess HPE Alletra Storage's capacity efficiency as being very efficient, with a large capacity. Direct access to senior support engineers is very important to me. For example, in order to use modern tools such as Zerto, I need support or some kind of training from an expert. While HPE Alletra Storage has not directly reduced my data management operations expenses, it provides an indirect benefit. For example, in a recovery program, suppose that I have a ransomware attack, having a program to reestablish all the services can reduce costs in such critical scenarios. What needs improvement? I would like to see more parallelism in the next release of HPE Alletra Storage. In my case, HPE Alletra Storage does not provide a cloud-like operational model on-premises for managing data infrastructure. For how long have I used the solution? Boosts operational efficiency with point-and-click configuration and significant cost savings

What is our primary use case? My use cases for HPE Alletra Storage are that it replaced aging, end of life hardware that we had. We have a main one in our headquarters and I also have a secondary in one of our warehouses in Nevada. I'm in New York, it's in Nevada, so we replicate. How has it helped my organization? The features of HPE Alletra Storage benefit my organization through stability and ease of configuration without having to jump through hoops to spin up a server and add a new datastore or reconfigure it. It's all point and click. What is most valuable? The most valuable features of HPE Alletra Storage that I have found are performance and ease of configuration. It's overall fantastic. HPE Alletra Storage has reduced my data management operation expenses. I went from older systems where I was lucky enough to have support on it and it was more expensive, yet now this is cost-effective. HPE Alletra Storage has saved us about 30% to 40%. HPE Alletra Storage has helped me reduce the time I spend on capacity planning by 100%. It has probably saved me a few hours a week, just from older systems trying to figure out what we have, how far things have increased, and where we need to go. I assess HPE Alletra Storage's capacity efficiency as great. We get the dedupe and we've saved a ton of space. We didn't have to buy as much, so it's definitely beneficial for that. HPE Alletra Storage does provide a cloud-like operational model on-prem for managing data infrastructure, as we can manage it through Central. The cloud-like operational model of HPE Alletra Storage has been a game changer for our operations such as deployment, provisioning, and day-to-day management. I can do it from anywhere. Having the ability to do it everywhere with HPE Alletra Storage has meant that it frees me up to do other tasks that I need to do and run my department and get the business moving in a better direction. HPE Alletra Storage is more simple, easy to use, and straightforward. What needs improvement? HPE Alletra Storage is pretty darn good the way it is, however, in terms of cost, costs are what they are. I don't know what could be done around that. I would like to see the costs of HPE Alletra Storage go down a little bit. Everybody would want that. I would like to see the costs go down overall. For how long have I used the solution? I have installed HPE Alletra Storage for less than a year. How are customer service and support? My experience with HPE Alletra Storage support has been great. We actually had an issue about a month and a half ago where the management NIC went offline, and it just required a firmware update and they took care of it. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate HPE Alletra Storage support as a ten. They're very good. How would you rate customer service and support? Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I was using a different solution prior to HPE Alletra Storage, which I inherited, and it was Lenovo, old, five separate systems connected with Nutanix, running VMware. To say it was a cluster is not in a good way. How was the initial setup? The deployment was great. Once HPE set it up, my VAR took over from there and and explained us how to do everything on our own. So it was good. Fantastic. What about the implementation team? HPE services came in, unboxed, rack-stacked, set it up, upgraded firmware, and got it going. What was our ROI? I have seen a return on investment with HPE Alletra Storage. Just by the savings that we've had on daily tasks to do and complete, it's much faster. We've definitely seen ROI. Which other solutions did I evaluate?
