Does its job effectively and protects our environment

How has it helped my organization? We don't have any issues regarding security, and our web server is running fine with protection from all threats. What is most valuable? The best features of Fortinet FortiGate are that it does the job effectively and protects our environment. It has a VPN and can create a virtual IP for a web server and functions as a standard firewall. What needs improvement? We faced difficulties with the configuration because there are many features we could optimize using Fortinet FortiGate, but our reseller didn't have a good understanding of it. So, we just use it on a basic level, not with the best practice for using FortiGate. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using Fortinet FortiGate for around five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Overall, I find Fortinet FortiGate to be very stable. Fortinet FortiGate demonstrates consistent stability. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? In my case, the 101F is not scalable. I faced problems with scalability related to memory. When we hit 100% memory usage, it stops the internet connection, so we need to control the traffic. We cannot increase the memory. We have about 350 users and only one admin. How are customer service and support? My experience with Fortinet's technical support is good and helpful. The response time and overall competence meet our expectations. I would rate their support a seven out of ten. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We used Juniper before Fortinet FortiGate. We switched because it was an old one and reached the end of support. We had to change. How was the initial setup? We were supported by a third party and the reseller. During deployment, it was not a good experience because of the reseller. We had challenges with the optimized configuration. The deployment took around three months. What about the implementation team? The reseller helped us with the implementation. It has been a long time since the implementation, so I don't remember the name of the company that helped us. Our IT has six people for deployment, and we used two staff members. What was our ROI? We have seen a return on investment with Fortinet FortiGate. The ROI calculation is based on potential loss prevention rather than traditional ROI metrics. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Its pricing is good. The advantages of Fortinet FortiGate over its competitors include good pricing and meeting our requirements at a lower cost. Palo Alto's features are superior, but too expensive. Which other solutions did I evaluate? I compared other brands, such as Palo Alto and Sophos, and chose Fortinet FortiGate. Palo Alto is the best, but it is significantly more expensive. Palo Alto has better capabilities than Fortinet FortiGate. Their protection is much more secure, and they excel in detecting intrusion and reading information. What other advice do I have? Ease of configuration and strong performance have improved efficiency

What is our primary use case? The main use cases for Fortinet FortiGate are for small, medium to large enterprises, and they also have products for SOHO (small office/home office). That is where they stand out. How has it helped my organization? The main benefits that Fortinet FortiGate brings to the table include the ease of configuration, stability of the product, and excellent support. When a customer is using Fortinet FortiGate, they will not look at any other products for expansion or upgrades. In terms of price and performance, it gives a very good, balanced product. What is most valuable? One of Fortinet FortiGate's best features is in terms of the configuration; it is one of the easiest to configure. It is very easy and based on ASICs. In terms of performance under scalability and stability, I would rate it amongst the best. I have not come across a product that I have had to replace or generate an R&D for to date. There has not been any impact in terms of performance for customers because Fortinet FortiGate is dependent on the architecture, which is totally different. They have security processors, network processors, and they work on a different architecture compared to other products. To be very frank, we have not had any performance issues when deploying SD-WAN and a next-generation firewall together. What needs improvement? Regarding improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, there is always room for improvement in any product. In information technology, things fade away quickly, and new technologies come in. It is how quickly each of these companies adapts to that and brings in more value to the customer. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate for over fifteen years. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? For scaling Fortinet FortiGate, I am not sure about scaling down as we have not had any instances, but scaling up has presented no challenges. How are customer service and support? I would rate the Fortinet FortiGate technical support as extremely good so far. I have not had any issues, and I would rate it the same as Cisco. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? One pro for the Fortinet FortiGate compared to Palo Alto, Cisco products, and WatchGuard is that the architecture is different because they use specific processors to handle different types of traffic, both security traffic and routing traffic. They keep enhancing the processors as they improve the capabilities of the product. As for cons, I do not see anything at this point in time. How was the initial setup? The initial setup for Fortinet FortiGate is extremely simple. It takes about five minutes to get it up and running. It is that easy. Nothing beyond that. What about the implementation team? The deployment process for Fortinet FortiGate is generally very simple. We give the prerequisites to the customer in terms of a number of man links they want to connect and what the LAN subnet and number of subnets are. These initial details are gathered from the customer. Once the appliances are in place, we begin with the contribution to the content management interface. Most of the time, we start with the LAN configuration and the LAN network configuration. Then we move to firewall policies based on the organization's requirements, licensing the product on the cloud, and subscription licenses. In some cases, we configure VPNs and site-to-site VPNs. That is about it, and there are certain features that need to be enabled, which we will enable. What was our ROI? One thing I would definitely state about Fortinet FortiGate is that, in terms of performance, if compared with a product of the same price point, Fortinet FortiGate will outperform it. This way, the customer has a better ROI because they do not have to look at changing it or looking at an upgrade frequently. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I find the pricing setup cost and licensing for Fortinet FortiGate reasonable. What other advice do I have? I work with Fortinet FortiGate SD-WAN extensively. My experience in integrating SD-WAN capabilities with Fortinet FortiGate in the network is that it is very easy. I would rate Fortinet FortiGate as a highly mature product. I have been working with them for quite a long time and have multiple implementations across India. I have not come across any instance where I had to replace the product. My advice for others looking into implementing Fortinet FortiGate is to plan the capacity properly and right-size the product for the specific customer, which is most important. When choosing the wrong model, some run into issues where it is not supporting that procedure, the system going under load, and similar issues. It is primarily important to spend more time on the design and finalize what is required in terms of the appliances. On a scale of one to ten, I rate this solution 10 out of 10. SD-WAN feature helps with network integrity, but support needs enhancement

What is most valuable? The SD-WAN feature of Fortinet FortiGate has been most impactful in maintaining our network's integrity. Fortinet FortiGate's threat detection capabilities are good for our use because it's an internal firewall; however, we haven't enabled some of the features that are there. We've enabled IPS and antivirus generally. What needs improvement? They could improve the response time and quality of support. I'm not sure what additional features they need to have in the future to make it better. For the purpose that we use it, it is doing the job, but I haven't explored some of the features. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiGate for seven years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I haven't had any issues with the stability or performance of the actual firewall. It has been fine with no bugs. We didn't have to think about upgrading or anything; it does what we bought it for. If it wasn't for the end of support and the end of sale, we would not think about changing it. We are considering similar products for upgrading, maybe newer or bigger hardware. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The product is scalable. Currently, 120 people are using Fortinet FortiGate in my company. How are customer service and support? I would rate their technical support about six out of ten; I'm not fully satisfied. They could improve the response time and quality of support. How would you rate customer service and support? Simple to use and does a wonderful job in protecting enterprises

What is our primary use case? Our main use cases for Fortinet FortiGate include using it as a perimeter firewall. Fortinet FortiGate manages all our policies and other things. How has it helped my organization? Fortinet FortiGate has impacted our cost savings and security efficiency positively. Fortinet FortiGate's VPN capabilities are very effective for us. We utilize the VPN facilities of Fortinet FortiGate all the time, so anybody who accesses our SAP systems utilizes the VPN of Fortinet FortiGate. It has been quite seamless in terms of integration. We find it very useful for us. What is most valuable? The features I find most useful in Fortinet FortiGate are its simplicity of utilization, which is very important, and its provision of interfaces to see the alerts and other things. It is very useful. We use it to understand who our top users of the internet are, what they are using, and when they are using it. It gives us many glimpses into the inner workings of the organization. What needs improvement? At this moment, we believe that Fortinet FortiGate should be improved by injecting more AI because the kind of threats we are seeing are more ransomware threats. Fortinet FortiGate is able to ensure these threats do not enter, but we would prefer to see more proactive alerting mechanisms come out. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate in this company for about a year or over a year now, and in my previous company, I used it for almost four years, totaling five years of experience. For technical support of Fortinet FortiGate, we utilize a channel partner and we are very happy with them. They support us almost instantly. Positive How was the initial setup? The setup of Fortinet FortiGate is very simple, worthy of a nine out of ten rating. The deployment part of Fortinet FortiGate takes a couple of hours. We decided to go for Fortinet FortiGate because it was simple to implement, it was simple to get the policies implemented, and the interfaces were quite simple. Simplicity was the main reason. The product is very good. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I find it quite reasonable. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Before working with Fortinet FortiGate, we evaluated Check Point, Palo Alto, and Blue Coat solutions. The reason we chose Fortinet FortiGate was basically because of security and simplicity of use. What is our primary use case? Generally, government and PSU, diamond companies, textile companies, and chemical companies are using Fortinet FortiGate in the Gujarat segment. We are also working with the Fortinet FortiSwitch and Fortinet AP. What is most valuable? Fortinet FortiGate has SD-WAN, FortiView, antivirus, sandbox, and IPS, which are generally well-known features. Fortinet FortiGate has a threat detection capacity compared to other vendors. What needs improvement? Fortinet technical support is lacking, as OEM support is slightly better. Improvement in their technical support could include response time as well as having more technically sound people in tech support. For how long have I used the solution? I have more than 12 years of experience with Fortinet FortiGate. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? A cost-effective solution with excellent security and easy policy configuration

How has it helped my organization? I see several benefits of using Fortinet FortiGate. When it comes to deploying the solution, it is easy. It allows customers to quickly get up to speed with their day-to-day tasks, minimizing mundane requests. Additionally, the support regarding upgrades and hardware failures has been above par. Fortinet FortiGate helps to remediate threats more quickly. Fortinet FortiGate helps to reduce the mean time to respond when it is properly integrated with proper tools. For example, with email and other automation capabilities, it has reduced to under an hour for me. Fortinet FortiGate helps to consolidate tools and applications by offering web control, email protection, routing, firewalling, and extending to switching and wireless on the same management platform. Fortinet FortiGate is good for helping you secure and protect mission-critical data. It is also good for protecting your edge. When it comes to security, Fortinet is excellent in terms of how updates are done when there is an incident globally or there's a new variant of any IOCs. It is quite up-to-date. What is most valuable? I find application control, logging and reporting, and ease of use valuable. I find the ease of configuring specific policies to be the most valuable feature of the Fortinet FortiGate firewall. What needs improvement? The solution could be improved by addressing limited local reporting. It requires obtaining the FortiAnalyzer for proper visibility because you can't do much from a reporting perspective with just the firewall alone. In terms of convergence, it is a good solution, but it can be better. FortiGate has the capability to support their switching and wireless platforms. They are quite excellent on their wireless side, but I found a couple of gaps in terms of how FortiGate integrates with their own switching platform. There are some gaps there. For how long have I used the solution? My experience of working with Fortinet FortiGate is approximately 10 years. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It caters to all with different units, such as from five users to a model that supports telcos or huge enterprises. Depending on the size of your organization, you end up getting the correct fit of the model, and they have the same capabilities. The variation comes in terms of the interfaces and throughputs, but from a security perspective, you get the same benefit, irrespective of whether you have an entry-level unit or an enterprise. How are customer service and support? Their support is quite effective. I would rate technical support from Fortinet a nine out of ten. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive How was the initial setup? I've had a chance to do a couple of deployments on the cloud. I've done deployments on private and public clouds. I've deployed it on-prem as an edge firewall or as a data center firewall. In terms of maintenance, like all firewalls, there is an aspect of upgrading based on new features and getting the latest updates from the signatures and IPS uploads that come along with it. That happens effectively in an automated way. Software upgrades are catered to during the support window. What was our ROI? The FortiGate firewall has helped to reduce the total cost of ownership. It provides value for money and is quite competitive compared to other vendors, allowing you to achieve the proper ROI from investments. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing or licensing of Fortinet FortiGate is quite effective as it offers different bundles that aggregate most required features, while also allowing clients the option to select specific components alone. Which other solutions did I evaluate? The typical use case for Fortinet FortiGate as a firewall is because of the commercial aspects. It is competitive from a pricing perspective. There is ease of use compared to other vendors and effective vendor support for any issues. What other advice do I have? Anyone considering purchasing FortiGate's data center firewall should go for it because data centers require stability and proper performance, which the platform provides. I would recommend getting the latest unit for a longer shelf life as clients often buy nearly end-of-sale products, limiting their usability. Overall, I would rate this solution a nine out of ten. Improves security and network distribution

What is our primary use case? Fortinet FortiGate is used just to manage our network because our network is managed by another company. I work in a small to medium-sized industry. What is most valuable? Fortinet FortiGate is used to prevent security failures. Since implementing the solution, we have seen improvements in security and in the distribution of our network. What needs improvement? In my opinion, Fortinet FortiGate could be improved by making the appliance smaller than what we have here, as it is pretty big. For how long have I used the solution? Fortinet FortiGate is better for large enterprise networking compared to MikroTik because we have about 100 people using our network, and we have had few problems compared to the time we were using MikroTik, which didn't work for us as well as the Fortinet FortiGate 200D does. How are customer service and support? We never have any issue or problem that hasn't been solved in two or three hours. The quick resolution of issues with Fortinet FortiGate is due to the support of the company and the fact that the equipment is easy to work with. Fortinet FortiGate does not require a lot of maintenance. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We have been using Fortinet FortiGate for three or four years, and before that, we used MikroTik. We switched to Fortinet FortiGate because the company that provides service for us started to work with Fortinet FortiGate as a partner, and they showed it to us. We liked it, and we started to use the Fortinet FortiGate solution. How was the initial setup? The initial setup for Fortinet FortiGate was pretty easy, and they completed it in one hour and a half. What about the implementation team? Two people worked to support us on Fortinet FortiGate. One of their job roles was manager, and I don't know the other role. What other advice do I have? My advice for people thinking about using Fortinet FortiGate is that you have to try to understand your necessities first. Make a comparison with other players in the market and have a good company to manage the equipment if you don't have the competence to do it yourself, preferably a third company that does this for you. Has enables a reduction in our security budget

What is our primary use case? We use FortiGate as the edge firewall. We integrate it with our APIs over Microsoft Azure. We work in the VOIP industry, and our services are prone to latency. Security is a major concern for us as a U.S. research company, where we frequently test attacks. FortiGate handles these attacks well. How has it helped my organization? FortiGate has led to a reduction in our security budget. Our management decided to switch to FortiGate because it offers all the necessary features and even improved features within our budget. What is most valuable? I'm looking forward to FortiGate's dashboard features, insights, application oversight, and monitoring, which could help us significantly. What needs improvement? As of now, I haven't identified areas for improvement. However, once the firewall is in production and all traffic is shifted, I might be able to provide more feedback. The configuration part was challenging, especially converting configurations from another OEM to FortiGate. For how long have I used the solution? The installation process does not take much time, but the migration phase from Cisco to FortiGate is expected to take about ten days. What about the implementation team? We have a separate team responsible for deployments over the cloud, while our networks and security team manages migrations and operations of the devices. What was our ROI? There has been a cost reduction in our security budget after implementing FortiGate, attributed to its offering of essential features at a reduced cost compared to previous vendors. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We pay for additional services like perpetual licenses. Despite this, FortiGate is considered a cost-effective solution. I rate the pricing as a five out of ten, reflecting a balance between cost and benefit. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We also use other vendors like Cisco, Netgate, Ubiquiti, and others in our environment. What other advice do I have? I recommend this product. In future updates, it would be beneficial to see automation features, such as real-time alerts via phone, which we currently get from other OEMs. I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.
