Linkstation 220 Review
Performance and ease of use for the unit is superb. Documentation on the unit is poor and leaves a lot to be desired.
Overall basic NAS device that just does the job
Not as fast as expected, but still within the range of network copy with physical drives. Setup was not too difficult and if you have some technical experience, it should be straight forward.
Well, it's a NAS.. and you get what you pay for
Works OK. For a budget NAS, I mean, it "works," in the sense that you can map a network drive for its RAID 1 array and transfer files to/from the NAS. It just has abhorrent transfer speeds out of the box for some reason, averaging ~200KB/s or lower for large (>100GB) transfers (was even seeing 800-900 bytes/sec

Good so far but documentation is confusing
Only give 4 stars since it is based on such a short time having the unit and it was not easy to setup because of confusing documentation to setup Time Machine backups on my 2 Mac laptops. Had to hunt all over (Buffalo Help, Google searches, Youtube, etc.) to finally get the info and get all my Mac's backing up
Reliable
Buffalo Products are known for their reliability and great to see Dell partnering with them.
happy with it
Easy to setup and works well.
Ok product bad app
The app is terrible and I can't get web access working but it works great on network

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well, it's a NAS.. and you get what you pay for Works OK. For a budget NAS, I mean, it "works," in the sense that you can map a network drive for its RAID 1 array and transfer files to/from the NAS. It just has abhorrent transfer speeds out of the box for some reason, averaging ~200KB/s or lower for large (>100GB) transfers (was even seeing 800-900 bytes/sec transfer speed consistently for a few minutes at one point). This seems to be a not-uncommon issue with this device; you will see similar complaints elsewhere, almost as if BUFFALO has a habit of shipping these units with weak hard drives. Either that, or this NAS is using a buggy/outdated implementation of SMB2, since switching to SMB1 seems to provide substantially higher transfer rates. This is with the latest firmware for this device as of 12/21/2023. Why these devices still get shipped out like this after all these years, I have no idea.. just be ready to enable SMB1 on every device you plan to connect to this NAS (you'll have to restart them afterwards too). Should also mention that backing up directly from this NAS is essentially pointless (it only has a USB 2.0 port!) since backing up directly off your client PC will be infinitely faster anyway. I could go on about how outdated the NAS Navigator 2 software is and how it is quite finnicky, but.. the point is, you get what you pay for. Don't cheap out on your NAS, lesson learned.
