Rated 5 out of 5 by from Annoying and a waste of time I use my MFC-J995DW XL for business. When I turn it back on after it's been off I get the "cannot detect" error for the print cartridges. No even if I follow directions to eject and replace. The only solution I've read is to power down, eject carts and purt back in and power back up. RIDICULOUS! Returning ASAP

The only reason I don’t give it five stars is that I print and then reuse second side of paper a lot of the time. When I pull the paper cartridge out, I need to close the small tray that keeps the printed copy from shooting out onto the floor. I don’t like the way the small tray folds. Would prefer it fold one time out and one time in. It’s a little flimsy and is a little of a pain. Brother makes a great printer and it was very easy to connect to all of my devices.

I raised the quality to 1200 and that worked but the time to scan a 4x6 photo was horrible. So, if you have a lot of photos to scan, buy a scanner made to do that, not an all in one.

Sometimes it will come back online by itself, sometimes I need to turn it off and back on to reconnect. Your utilities tell me I'm properly connected. Does the WIFI connection lapse over time? I use the printer infrequently. Any help would be appreciated.

Print is clean and crisp, buttons worked perfectly. Was immediately recognized by Chromebook and added as a printer. Only weakness I ran into was setting up the auto refill program. The auto fill program which has to be set up through your phone app just failed. I tried to set up through the internet and was redirected back to the app. My concern became the stability of the app either signing up (which was failing or if successful, being unable to cancel. Otherwise this was a good printer out if the box.

Regular printing is FAST, crisp and no ink blotches like my old HP Officejet 6600. Easy paper jam clearance and the self-cleaning functions make this the best printer I have ever owned. The optional double-side is a paper saver and great for the environment. I only have one question though. How do I print page numbers on work that don't have them?

Each of my first two was competitively priced, had all the features I wanted, was a workhorse, and lasted several years. So when it was time for a new one I naturally turned to Brother and have not been disappointed. Incidentally, when I turned to Brother for help, their customer service was exceptional.

Your ad and info on the box said "2 years of ink". Judging by the volume left will never make that. 2. Copies of pictures are coming out light, not the true color as pictured on the computer screen.

This Brother machine does EVERYTHING very well and the Scanning is something special. My printing is fast and scalable. The fax is intuitive to set up and again does very well. The multisheet feeded for the fax has never jammed to date. I like this machine

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great so far This printer was easy to set up. The screen walks you through the process. The ink tanks are huge. The prints are very good, nice color, crisp text. And it handled a wide variety of media. My dad has a color laser printer that will basically only print on thin media (plain paper thickness). This printer just finished printing 60 pages on 110lb card stock, then right back to 20 pages on plain paper. I would definitely buy this printer again.

Yes it will set up and connect, but as soon as the printer goes to sleep its game over. You have to reinstall the software every day to get it to work! Don't buy this if you need the Wi-Fi connection to make it work. Otherwise, if you can connect with an ethernet cable it is a functional unit.

My singly gripe is I wish I didn’t have to pull open paper tray all the way out to flip it over if I want to print on the other side of a page separate computer files where double sided printing isn’t an option.) This is not a small printer but it is just the right size to sit on a small table/nightstand in my modified home office. And ink efficiency is great!

Very useful for submitting documents when doing shed sales. I am not in a typical office environment: temps range from 40 to over 100 *F, but Brother works great!

Prints faster than I expected and qualilty is great. I love this printer, it does everything you could possibly need. I worked for a major IT printer manufacture and 12 years ago I purchased a Brother Printer because I was on a budget. That printer lasted 12 years and would do everything I needed for printing services. Well after shopping around and actually purchasing another brand I had to return it because it worked 1 time. I purchased this brother printer after seeking Brother customer service help to find a model that would do all I needed. Quick response from Brother and my puchase was headache free.

I was highly disappointed with a model that required the Intstant Ink monthly subscription when it stopped functioning after 6 months. This model reminded me of an old all-in-one I had years ago, that I really enjoyed. It has not disappointed, everything works great, good quality printing!

I've got better things to do with my time. This machine has been a dream so far. Now too see if the ink dries up all the time.

Received my Brother MFC-J995DW XL Printer quickly and installed/set it up just as fast. The instructions were clear and concise and this printer fits perfectly on my desk (next to laptop) and in my cabinet is I choose to hide it. For quick print jobs this printer has been just what I needed. Surprisingly it also does an excellent job with photo print jobs too. I was a bit skeptical at first but so glad I gave it a try.The only thing I would change about this printer is the color. It doesn`t seem the model is offered in the color Black, which is my preference.Overall, I would definitely recommend this printer for anyone in need of a compact all-in-one home printer (I do 100-300 pages per month).

I received this printer a couple weeks ago for my home office. Taking it out of the box was easy. Included in the box were the Quick Setup Guide instructions, the product safety guide, a cd for installation of software to a computer, warranty, registration, a reference guide, the printer, ink, and power cord as well as an telephone line cord. To set up the printer, the only things I used were the printer, ink, power cord, and the Quick Setup Guide instructions. The instructions were not very detailed, but I did not have any trouble getting it set up. I did not connect the telephone line during the setup and have not used the fax component of the machine. I did use my iPhone and iPad along with the Brother iPrint&Scan to print over WiFi and it has been extremely easy. Compared to printers I have used in the fast, so far it has worked very well. It is a little bulky in size as I have seen other multi function printers that are much more compact and take up less space on my desk. One plus is that it easily connected to the internet and it stays connected without having to reboot anything. It is a little noisier than the last printer I had. One thing that frustrates me is that you have to lift the output paper tray to lo load more paper. It`s not a simple slide out and open either; the entire paper tray comes out and then you have to reinsert it and I`m never sure if I put it back right, although I have not experienced any problems so far. The print quality is average. I haven`t tried to print any high quality photos, but I would not think this machine would be great for that. It seems to be a great at home/home office printer to print basic documents. Pros: setup was simple, easily connect and print over WiFi Cons: bulky, loud, paper tray ease of use

The Brother MFC-J995DW XL printer works like a standard printer. The configurations are similar to common printers. The print quality and print speed was about average, though my internet connection, which doesn`t always travel well throughout my house, might have slowed the printing. The most standout feature was that it came with a two year ink supply. Overall, though, it works fairly flawlessly. It was easy and intuitive to setup and came largely fully assembled. The inkjets and the paper tray were the only things that needed to be attached, which can be easily inserted within a minute or two. The printer basically autonomously sets itself up and guides you through the manual needed settings like entering the Wi- Fi information. It comes with a CD which connects the printer wirelessly to your computer. The CD took a while to download the software and connect with the printer. The printer isn`t that tall which is problematic for seeing the small computer screen that operates the printer. The screen is angled flat and is on the side of the printer. It would be helpful if the screen was either angled upward or the screen was on top of the printer.

I bought it partly because I liked the idea of larger ink capacity and cost, but it is obviously too early to know if the ink will last "up to 2 years". I also like the 2-year warranty. The only negative so far is the small touchscreen. My previous HP was much larger.

The printer is nicely compact and fits perfect on a shelf under my computer.The setup was user friendly, however I had a bit challenge trying to acces another link to use the Bluetooth option on my smart phone for printing capabilities.I am impressed by the scanning feature, but am disappointed I can only scan an average of 10 pieces at a time. Some of the scan jobs I am required to complete are between 20-25 pages. Also, there`s seems to be quite a few steps just to complete the scan command vs a smart phone initially I don`t feel this product is above average, but functions as other devices i`ve used in the past. I would recommend this device for a home office.

The setup of the printer was seamless. It is essentially ready to go right from the box. The quick setup guide answered any questions I had right off the bat without having to dig into the full manual. Once out of the box, all I had to do was take the tape off, plug it in, insert the ink cartridges, and set it up to my devices. I didn`t need any help and was done in less than 15 minutes. I really like the size of this printer. I compared it to a multi-function printer I currently have, and it is so much smaller and definitely more user friendly. Brother fit a lot of options into a fairly compact and powerful machine! I have 2 favorite features on this printer. My first is the ability to print wirelessly from my computer or phone. When working from somewhere other than my desk with my current printer, I have to disrupt the flow of my work to get up and plug in the USB port. Printing from my computer wirelessly worked out perfectly with this Brother printer! The second favorite feature is that it prints duplex pages automatically. I`m very conscious of my carbon footprint and have always tried to print 2 sided when possible. It doesn`t always work out well when you have to do it manually. I usually end up flipping the images or double printing on one side. The printer comes with very large ink cartridges compared to what I`m used to, and the product advertises that the ink should last for 2 years even with a fairly substantial print volume. I`m confident these will last quite awhile. These cartridges honestly provide a great quality print as well. I tried photos, documents, and even thicker paper and was quite impressed with everything I printed out. I think if you have a home office or do a higher volume of printing, you can`t go wrong with this multi-function printer. I can`t say at this point that I would change anything about it, but I will certainly update my review if a suggestion arises.

The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that when using the fax the paper feeder sounds like it's a 100 years old but its made that noise out of the box. It prints nicely, quickly and accurately. It does a routine head cleaning itself and it doesn't use a lot of ink. We print a lot and we still have 3/4 of the ink.

My last printer was 15 plus years old with very expensive ink and did not scan or copy. Everything, including a USB cord and ink is in the box. I used their provided quick setup guide and was printing wirelessly in no time. I wanted to really rest it out so I printed a ton of handwriting and coloring sheets for my children. It went relatively fast and there were no jams. So far so good! Im really looking forward to not buying ink for 2 years. Good deal!

Intuitive software and features ergonomical footprint. Love being able to print form my mobile devices either over the Wi-Fi or NFC. It has great quality pictures and photos and I like the rear loading port for envelopes or 4x6 photos as well as the ability to copy, scan and Fax from home!

I was not disappointed, it is a very fast printer, does not go off-line very often like the hp printers. Printer support is provided for the life of the printer, not one year. The paper capacity is 150 pages so it doesn’t need paper very often. I really love this printer.

If you have a lot of printing to do look elsewhere. Colors are flat. If it has been inactive for a day or so it shows as 'offline' on the network and must be restarted.

The printer was easy to unpack and everything was included with clear instructions right on top. The directions were simple to understand and easy to complete. The printer basically installed itself once I inserted the provided disk into my computer. My only complaint is that it took a very long time to finish installing. The entire process took several hours but part of the reason is that I had left it for a while and my computer fell asleep in the middle of the installation. Otherwise, the installation was pretty easy and straightforward and it walks you through it on your computer, just with long periods of waiting in between required actions. I do wish it had been quicker so that I didn`t have to walk away, thereby causing it to take longer than it might have. What I particularly like about this printer is all of the available features that it provides. For every action available on the printer, there are options to tailor the job to your exact need and the on-printer screen makes it so easy to select your desired options and get the job done quickly. It is also fairly compact for being able to do so many things and looks very sleek and professional on my desk. Once I got it set up, it was a breeze to use and I am very happy with the quality. The printing is quick and quiet and the pages look perfect. I also appreciate that it is a wireless printer and I can print anything directly from my phone at any time from anywhere in my home. The scanning was simple and the quality looks great. Unfortunately, I did not have an opportunity to use the faxing feature. I will primarily be using the printer to print and occasionally scan and for those jobs, I`m certain that this machine will more than meet my needs. And possibly even inspire some additional creativity, considering all of the options I will have at my fingertips.

If not rebooting, it can see my wifi router, but every time I input the pass key to connect, it fails saying its wrong AND prints out the paper EACH time, which wastes paper. There is NO setting to turn it off from printing each wrong/error messages. So I have to reboot it each time it disconnects. Other than that, it performs well and quick printing speed. I really doubt its 2 year ink, but its only been few months.

This multi-function printer was so easy to set up - took it out of the box, plugged it in, installed the print cartridges - at this point it could scan and print from the scan. It only took a few minutes to set it up on our wireless network and then we could print from all devices - laptops, iPhones, Androids, iPads, etc. The Brother app on the phones and tablets was easy to find, install and use.The INKvestment technology is awesome, because now I won`t run out of ink at the worst possible time. The print quality is nice and crisp in both BW and Color. It was much easier to set up compared to another brand multi-function machine we own.Overall I would highly recommend this machine. We use it in our home office and it will definitely meet our business and personal needs.

Not many bells & whistles, but I prefer the simplicity to stuff I don't need. Set-up and functions are simple and intuitive. Have had ZERO jams, questions, problems. 100% problem free so far. We've networked 2 computers to it so it can print for the whole house without tons of cabling. Not super speedy, but I have time.

I was looking for a color printer that minimizes frequent, expensive ink cartridge changes and would allow me to AirPrint, copy, and scan documents, and is relatively quiet when it prints. So far, this printer has accomplished all of these aims. My only suggestions for improvement are that the paper tray could be designed to be pulled out more easily, and I have not yet figured out how to scan a multi-page document from the flatbed (e.g. not using the sheet feeder. The paper tray is a minor annoyance. The flatbed scanning issue is a disappointment, because it requires that I use another vendor's multifunction device in another part of my home to accomplish multi-page scans from the flatbed. Otherwise, I am very pleased with my choice of this product.

That said, it doesn't do photos like my old Canon but I knew it wasn't going to. Does all that scanning, copying, and faxing and has a good interface. I connected it right to the the home network and put the Brother tool kit on each computer. Setup was simple with no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, yet, really fast/efficient+ $+time sav... I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. Overall unpacking was very easy (I was actually surprised by it`s compact size expecting a much bigger printer/scanner and so was the assembly (nothing to assemble!) which really all it was following the instructions in the quick guide included in the box. Installing the ink cartridges was really easy, as well as connecting the AC power adapter, and the wifi setup was also very simple and easy. I was up and printing within 10 minutes. Also I was able to install the software easily for my MAC operating system easily as well so that was great. Score: AFor an "all-in-one" it`s a rather fast and effective printer. Also I love that it has the feature to print front/back and you can auto pre-select that option before printing thus saving more paper. I checked the printer levels today after using the printer for over 2+ wks now and having printed 10 pages/day or so and was surprised to see that the ink levels have barely moved from the top. I`m impressed that ink levels are still at nearly 90%!! This means that the claim that cartridges should last a year does seem true at least from my experience so far and of course everyone`s experience will be different. Also copying multiple pages using the automatic document feeder is easy for printing (but can be complex for scanning which I`ll touch on below). Printing/copying+ink=A++Wi-fi setup and printing from iphone is a breeze. Similarly once the printer is setup to your wireless router and any mobile device can detect the printer on the network then you`re able to very easily print from your mobile device. I use this a lot because if I receive an email and don`t want to turn on my laptop then this works very effectively for me as I can easily just print from my phone. Wifi=A+Other great features: include the simple-to-use touchscreen that is small, but still makes it easy to navigate through. Also there are "apps" which you can choose to install ranging from templates for print, i,e. Forms, to support for cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. It also comes with two slots for USB flash drives and MicroSD cards which i don`t have much need for, but I`m sure is a huge plus for people that love to print pictures, for example, or save documents on USB drives. The Brother all-in-one also doubles up as Fax machine if needed. "A" mainly for addition of apps and ease-of-use like being able to create "shortcuts" on touchscreen for frequent uses/commands. While I pretty much love/like most of the features I`ve been using on a daily basis scanning has been frustrating to use. Don`t get me wrong: its scanning capabilities are actually pretty good and the MAC Brother iPrint&Scan software you have to install to be able to perform/scan more difficult, long, or complex documents/photos etc works well enough and will do for most users. From past all-in-ones I`ve had I would say it`s on par with others. So you should be able to do most scanning rather easily depending on the size/length of the documents you are scanning - say any document that is one page up to 10-20 pages in length then it`s easy for that. Longer documents though could make it a bit more complex because I`ve yet to be able to figure out if the scanner can scan double-sided documents and sadly I don`t think it can. Secondly the most annoying/frustrating thing is the fact that you have to insert the documents face down into the automatic document feeder (ADF). Perhaps for some people this isn`t a huge issue and merely an annoyance and/or some are used to that anyways, but I`m used to always inserting documents for printing/scanning face/up rather than face-down. That said though the ADF works, really, really well! I`m not worried it will die out on me in a year or two even! Score of B here since scanning will take some time getting used to. Overall score I would give it is an "A". It`s absolutely worth the investment +I`ve already seen that with how much $/time/space this Brother MFC will be saving me over next 2+yrs!

It took a little more effort to get it to work with my Windows machine, but I attribute that to the computer and not the Brother printer. I am impressed with this Brother MFC-J995DW XL Printer. It boasts great features with consuming little space. I set this up in my craft/sewing room so I could print out my sewing patterns. It takes no time to set up and the instructions are very clear. Having come with 2 years worth of ink in the box makes this a no-brainer decision! I am tired of running out of ink or having quality issues with my previous printer. I am easily able to print directly from my smart phone, which makes it even easier to be ready to accomplish projects when I walk into my room. The best feature is the ability to print from a SD card or flash drive without having to use my laptop. The fax feature is accessible from the touch screen, which is a plus since I don`t have a house line, I don`t have to look at extra buttons that will not be used.The printer cable is hidden under the scanner, which is a great feature! I am not a fan of excess cables/wires hanging out - great use of space!My only complaint is that the non-white color of the machine doesn`t match up with all the white Brother sewing machines I have.

I will cover several areas in the user experience including but not limited to, unboxing, setup, software installation, general usage.UNBOXINGThe printer was packaged well, with just enough insulation to protect the product during shipping. Unpacking was easy and included the printer, power cord, ink, telephone cord, setup guide and a software disc. I was anticipating the inclusion for a USB cable, which is a basic and common cable for general setup, usage and operation of the printer outside the use of wifi printing. It would be convenient and appropriate to have all the basic parts in one box for immediate operation.INITIAL SETUPSetup was relatively intituitive without the need for the user guide. Nevertheless, the Quick Setup Guide was easy to follow with ample pictorial and verbal instructions. You will need to supply your own USB cable if you intend to connect the printer to your computer using a wired connection. A wired connection carries a few benefits (more on this later). This is also the case for a wired network connection.I found the placement of the USB and network connections to be unusual ,i.e. inside the printer and under the scanning bed. I would expect the connections to be more centralized where the telephone and power connections are. There was just enough space the thread the network and USB cables. One advantage I see with this design is that the connection will not be easily disconnected.SOFTWARE SETUPThe software setup via the included CD seems a bit long, depending on all the options selected. The software automatically detected that updates were needed. Those were applied as recommended. The software interface is clean and simple, almost too simple. The user navigation, look and feel can use some improvement. PHYSICAL FEATURES and GENERAL USAGEI appreciate the USB and SD card readers which are convenient placed at the front of the printer. I use these features frequently for printing pictures directly from the media source without the need for turning on the computer. If the printer is connected to the computer via USB, the external media (i.e. a USB flash drive) can be view as a drive of the computer. This was a pleasant surprise and a quite useful feature. A feature that I use quite often is to scan directly to the external media. When both a SD card and a USB flash drive is inserted at the same time, only the pictures one device can be viewed/printed. It would be great if it had to ability to select which device to access the content. It would not recognize a high capacity external hard drive. Touch ScreenThe touch screen interface on the printer is fluid and easy to navigate. With all the available real estate on the front panel, a bigger screen would be welcomed. Document FeederThe document feeder is useful, although you cannot scan or copy a double sided document in one pass. I think this is a key feature that is missing. Wi-Fi PrintingWifi printing is great especially printing documents and pictures from an iPad or iPhone. Print QualityThe printing speed is decent for the volume and purpose that I`m using it for. The quality of color photo prints are good. SUMMARYOverall, this multifunctional printer/copier/scan machine is good for a home office use for light to medium volume printing. It offers enough convenient features like wireless printing and scanning, external card readers and document feeder. The short coming from my perspectives is the lack of double sided scanning and copying from the document feeder. The cost of ownership will depend on the cost and yield of the ink. This machine will handle the basic everyday printing, scanning and copying jobs.

When I recieved My All in one Brother MFC-J995DW Printer I wasn`t too optimistic about it being anything better than the previous printers I have used and owned in the Past... Boy I was wrong... I love how the INK lasts up to TWO Years... My Other printer I had to change ink at least 2 times a year = $$$ and lots of it. With working from home most of the time, and having air printing as well is a bonus, being able to print things from tablets, phones, and computers at any room of the house is great as well.Another major benefit is being so compact, space is always valuable in any business or household and having a printer,fax,copier and scanner that is almost 1/2 the size of my last one is awesome! The simple "Out of the Box ready to go" is an understatement.. This thing was simple to install and worth every penny! I am sold on Brothers from here on out! Our family is beyond stoked of the performance of the Brothers MFC-J995dw!!

My very FAVORITE : MFC845CW My Lazer HL-3170CDW is good, still and used daily My NEW one MFC-J995DW is very good....only the FAX is difficult because the numbers are so small (Nothing like the MFC845CW! If you ever do another like this one I want to know!

One paper jam, easily fixed although I don't quite understand the mechanism for releasing if it should (and of course it will happen again. My only concern is that the paper feed mechanism seems flimsy: takes a bit of awkwardness to open, like a jerking motion to open to add paper and I am concerned it will not last. Also, I never rate any product like this 5 stars until I have used it for a considerable length of time.

Upgraded from my MFC J985DW, which printed very well indeed, and find this mildly improved from that high standard. The innovation that changes everything is the ink tank system, which lowers the price per per print significantly. Super job, Brother; we appreciate it. Don't fail to order the printer with the estimated "two-year" ink supply if possible.

So far I have printed, copied, and scanned and it has performed well. The only complaint I have is an annoying pop up notification every morning when I turn on my computer telling me that the printer can’t be found (or something like that. I know it can’t be found, it isn’t turned on. But that’s just a minor irritation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice printer so far! While I’ve only had it a short time, I have had no problems other than trying to use it as a direct wired (usb) printer as well as an AirPrint printer. It I turn on the wireless AirPrint feature, it disconnects the usb connection. The main reason I bought this printer was to have a direct connection to my computer (a Mac) as I have had wireless connection problems with another Brother printer that I own which is 20 feet from the computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Awesome Little Printer I have been purchasing Brother laser printers for my workplace for years and have never had a problem with them. They have been 100% reliable. When my personal inkjet printer of another brand at home died, I decided to give the Brother MFC-J995DWXL a try. This is a remarkable printer. First of all, the thought of being able to go up to two years without replacing cartridges is hard to imagine, and will certainly take the hassle out of ordering and replacing cartridges frequently. It prints very quickly and the colors are amazingly brilliant and accurate. I have never had an inkjet printer that printed so quickly and with clear, crisp characters. In addition, it was extremely easy to perform the wireless set-up and the on-screen functions are very intuitive. The only disappointment is that it doesn't perform 2-sided scanning; however, I understand that the PaperPort application has a function that allows you to scan the multi-page document twice and then put the pages together as if it was scanned 2-sided. I haven't tried this yet, but am confident it will work based on my research. I am so glad that I decided to purchase this printer. I am also confident that it will give me many, many years of solid performance.

I still have insurance with the store I purchased it from so I will probably return it. I expected the interface to be easier to use and I was hopeful that customer service would be better. You have to really dig to get a hold of customer service. For the price, it should be much easier.

I was expecting it to be a little larger like my Epson but it was compact. But what I found out was that it actually is a Mighty Mite of a printer. It’s very reliable and it has multifunction capability with printer, scan, fax, and copy. We’ve been using it four a few months now and the ink level hasn’t moved much at all. I really love the new ink system with the large cartridges. We are very pleased with the brother printer. Originally the display I felt was really small but it works very well no issues. You won’t be disappointed with this printer.
