Monitors don't come with proper cords.
I was having problem with my dell monitor for over one year. All cords should come with monitors. That's not the case I think I talked to all the tech support at dell trying to figure out my monitor problem. Until I did my own research and found the problem. I needed to buy this cord. Didn't work
These cables did not work. We purchased another set that worked just fine. My guess is that it needed to be Display Port to HDMI so the direction of data were reversed.

High res, low refresh
Works great! Only thing is that I can't get the high refresh rate as I would with a DisplayPort cable. I do get the high resolution of a DisplayPort cable though. 60 Hz refresh rate with this cable.

How to make a Display Port Useful

HDMI to DP cable failed
