Great Lens
I wanted a small but good quality lens for my new Sony A7C II, as a travel and daily use lens. I have recently started to use prime lenses because of the sharp photos they produce and because they tend to be much more compact than zooms. This focal length is perfect in my opinion, not too wide and not too tight. A very good lens indeed.

Perfect standard lens
One of the important reasons for migrating to Sony was availability of this lens. My favorite focal length is 40mm, and whilst it would have been even better if the largest aperture was F2.0, I am very happy with the lens as it is.
I would have liked even more if the lens was smaller in size, but I understand the reasons for being this size.
Quality wise, this lens is excellent. I particularly like its super fast AF with A7 IV.
I would highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for an all day carry on lens.
The lens seems to have imperceptible distortion, which is really good too.

Best color for a plein aire painter
I'm using an Alpha 7c for its full frame and raw format. I generally paint images within a 100 feet and I'm tried of taking photos that average the color I see. With the programing in the Alpha 7c and this lens, I can capture those variations and highlights that make my paintings without a lot of notes. Lens with a lot of glass and optics don't.

Ideal wark about lense
I was in the market for a small prime lense as I have a z55 and sony 35F25 I neded something with moor flexibility and portability. The FE40 features moor than fit the bill, its amazingly fast at focus Ideal for street photography and assigning APS-C to focus hold button for that extra rech makes it perfect for my use.

really good product
I purchased this lens in hope that it would be smaller and still have great quality for travel. My current lenses are really big and good but carrying them around is a burden at times. This lens does everything I need and is compact and fast and works very well. The bokeh is extremely good for a lens of this size. I am still learning to use it --- but it is incredible. I and my wife love to cruise and love to take pictures in the lower light - this lens will do so without having the huge lens I have had to carry in the past. This is a great lens and so worth the price... will take it on the cruise ship in January and am sure that will be great. GREAT GENERAL PURPOSE LENS
Excellent build quality. I love the focus hold button, aperture ring, smooth action and the (slightly wide angle) view. Great optics and f2.5 is a great compromise between cost and a wide aperture. Recommended.

Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G Full-frame ultra-com
Bought this lens for a quick lightweight prime lens. Super light and compact. 40mm is an amazing focal length too, not too wide, not too narrow. I was able to get decent landscapes and great portraits. The color and clarity of its pictures is spot on. Being able to manually set the aperture is a definite plus. The Bokeh is unreal. I see this being my go to lens for my landscape photography. The aperture ring is solid. It’s not going to move around accidentally. Auto focus is superb. Excellent walk-around lens. ** Used with a Sony a7iii mostly portrait and some landscape shots. ***disclaimer that I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinion***

40mm is the right spot for street photography.
It’s not too wide and not too narrow… just right.
This is a nice, solid and compact lens with a really nice lens hood that doesn’t shout ‘Lens hood!’… I like how small it all is.

Interesting focal length
Choose 35mm or 50mm but 40mm is difficult to justify

Great little lens
I purchased this lens a couple of months ago. It is the lens I now keep on my camera most of the time. It's light, unobtrusive and a very versatile focal length. I enjoy using it and the images I get from it.

Lovely little lens
I really like my FE 40mm f2.5 G lens, it's my main walkabout lens. I prefer 40mm to both 35mm and 50mm. This Sony lens is lovely, it feels great in the hand, it is small, light weight and very is sharp. Its also really nice to have a proper aperture ring. Thoroughly recommended.

Sharp lens
I purchased this lens from Wex and I had a great experience with this firm. The lady who
served me in Cambridge was patient, polite, and extremely helpful. The lens is
lightweight and very sharp and versatile having close distance focusing.

Super sharp, ideal field of view
I have had this lens for a year now and it's hardly ever off my camera (an A7IV). Build quality is superb, I love the 40mm focal length as it matches what I see and the image quality delivered is top notch. Tack-sharp corner to corner, smooth backgrounds.

Awesome lens for when size matters
Build Quality: The SEL40F25G is an objectively well-built lens. The body is made out of aluminum and feels nice in the hand. The aperture ring clicks into place nicely and the focus ring is buttery smooth. For the size, it’s well put together, premium feeling lens.
Performance: The SEL40F25G is a very quick lens. The autofocus is quick and works very quietly. Bokeh is nice and creamy as well. I do wish it were a bit faster, but understand that some compromises need to be made to make the lens as compact as it is. Compared to some of the Zeiss Batis primes and GM zooms I have, I do still prefer the images coming out of those lenses, but they also cost considerably more.
Size: I got an a7c for the days where my a9 + GM lenses are just too heavy to lug around. The SEL40F25G is a perfect complement for the a7c. It’s a smidge taller than the a7c’s kit lens and much shorter than my 50 f/1.8. This keeps everything nice and compact while still capturing shots with excellent quality.
Overall, the SEL40F25G is a great lens. There are similar lenses that are faster, smaller, or cheaper, but the SEL40F25G strikes a nice balance between build quality, speed, and size that is hard to match in the market. So why not 5 stars? It comes down to price. I understand that there is a lot of engineering that goes into making something this good and this small, but it's a pricey proposition.

I bought this with travel in mind an I am really pleased I did. The lens is really light, 40mm is a great focal length, and extremely sharp corner to corner.

An excellent little lens, and so sharp.
I bought this for when I needed slightly wider than 50mm, for when I shoot portraits, as I already have the 50mm f1.8, and the 40mm is compact and really sharp.
