Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Happy I bought this in 2018, used this maybe a few dozen times and I'm starting to have problems. It's been freezing and making memories I have on the card, skip or distorted. These cards I have are memories of three dogs that have passed on. I'm very upset considering I haven't used it much and it's already crapping out. This is the second Sony camcorder that has done this. I will NEVER buy Sony camcorder again. I have memories of my now deceased dogs where words are cut out and pictures distorted. And yes, I'm great at keep my things clean and away from moisture and heat.

I just used it again on a sunny day, and the kids that used it couldn’t see what they were filming. The pics turned ok but the kids were frustrated. An eye piece to see what you are shooting would be a plus!

The instructions are very easy to follow and the playback is very clear, both video and audio. I have had more expensive camcorders before, but they had features that I never used. I really like the USB cord attached directly to the camera. This helps prevent having to search for cables! I can just record the concert and when I get home, I just plug in the camera and download the video. I can even edit the video with the free software!

If I do it on my computer, I can only use the bisc once, and cannot add to it. I've therefore ordered a cable which will alliw me to record multiple episodes onto a disc.

I don't use a tri-pod, too much to drag in and out of gyms with sometimes no space. videos are very smooth. The camera is super light to hold the entire game, sometimes even two games, JV and Varsity. Love it. Downloading is easy, I am not a tech person. Quick off and on. Occasionally I would need to close the view screen and open it again to start back up, this took only seconds.

Sony, this is cheap, that you have built the feature but has not enabled it in this model, for that we have to go to the higher model.

I have taken videos while walking and you cannot see any movement in the video. The 60X zoom is excellent. Better than I expected.

So its nice to have something from the balst of our past. But its very modern and sleek and affordable for what you can do with it. Its handheld and you can move around with it too. The micro chip you can get at 64 gigs and extra batter packs is recommended if your doing big projects. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible auto focus for hockey games I live stream high school and youth hockey games. I purchased this camera to replace my Sony HDR-CX260 as I broke the HDMI port in the older camera. The HDR-CX260 did a very nice job of videoing hockey games and I was able to stream at 1080P with very sharp results.But the auto-focus for the HDR -CX408B is horrible. The only it focuses when I zoom in tightly on something on the ice, but when I zoom out, it loses focus. Yes, it is in auto focus, not manual. I sent it in for repair and came back "calibrated" but with the same problem. I have sent it in again. So I have to run out and buy a different camera, a Panasonic HC-V180. This camera does a nice job of auto-focusing during hockey games, but it does not out-put to the HDMI when recording. This was a nice feature so I could record shorter segments live, during the live stream.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from pretty sucky sony site the vid camera worked fine taking the video as far as i know-its trying to get the vid to my computer that is sucky-going to sony site is totally unfriendly.....multi billion dollar company and the site is sucky. cant really take the Q&A since i have no idea how to get these vids to my computer first. i registered yet it wont allow me to create a user id and password. it wont allow me to download playmemories home version. I have impt vids, peple are expecting them and i cant do anything with them.

It zooms in so close from so far away. It's very light and small and there is no shake in the videos. excellent camcorder!

It is a Toshiba using windows 7 ultimate. No communication. I tried everything I could think off, and nothing. I have a Sony SLRA200 and have no problems at all. What good is the camcorder if I can't download the videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All The Goodies For A Buffet Price For the MSRP, the HDR-CX405 present an outstanding value. Packed into its feather-lite form factor are some of the major the technologies in Sony's much more expensive products, including the BIONZ X processor and the Exmor R CMOS. The feature set is just right for this price point and the Zeiss lens in thrown in for extra measure! The quality of the video is exceptional for what you pay, and, at the highest setting, leaves little to be desired. The BIONZ X processor produces vivid color and the Optical Steady Shot is almost invisible in its operation. Oh, there is also a 60x Clear Image Zoom that allowed me to shoot some birds atop the clock tower of the iconic Tower Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. I was quite impressed! The videos are easy to process with the proprietary Sony PlayMemory software that can be downloaded from Sony's wed site. No software comes in the package. However, in addition to an AC charger, there is a HDMI connector so you can enjoy your videos on your HD TV. The only downside is that the viewing screen is not touch enabled, required navigation through a tiny joystick. But, in practical use, this is not an issue. Well done, Sony!

I had not owned a video camera before so I did a lot of research before I purchased my Sony CX-405. My research led me to the right choice. The camera was affordable, compact to handle and use on the tripod I purchased along with it. It thinks for itself and gets me to the right settings automatically. It takes great shots even though I don't know much about photography.

The mobility feature makes using it easy in any situation. I use it to film many events, indoor and outdoor waterever the lighting situation you have to deal with, this handy cam has you covered. I use it to film my church services, the results are astounding in the picture quality. The ability to zoom in and out are smooth and with professional results. And taking still photos are easy and with high quality results. I only wish I had bought one sooner

We re-watch "films" on 55" TV screens and have used the free SONY software on a desktop computer to store videos. Potential downsides: * Camera itself feels very lightweight so I wonder about durability. No problems yet. * Batteries that came with the camera (one original and one aftermarket) are small form factor and don't always last through an hour long event. * LCD screen is relatively small and using controls on screen is challenging for adult (aka old) eyes. I have to remove the memory card and insert it into a computer to delete media files.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Confusing, disjointed and I can't get my videos! I bought this camera hoping that I could plug it into my computer to get my videos. No such luck. Download, register, tell Sony you don't want them to sell your information, register some more...and all the while, I can't get the video off of my camera!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Camcorder, Not The Best for Still Images. I was bought this camera a year and some change ago, I believe it was a present for Christmas 2017. It is a definite upgrade from the HandyCam that I had before in terms of video recording quality and image quality, but unless you have a $1,000 HandyCam or more, don't expect the greatest still image quality.

The only thing that my friend connected to the Internet via a Gatolink, And I do not know if you can connect to the internet directly through my laptop , and in the specifications I can not find that information or if I need an app to be detected on my laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cant get MTS converted to DVD. Makes this junk. Great pictures and audio but CANT GET MTS CONVERTED . This is junk it is so diffucult to transfer to DVD. and as of yet you software does not work either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to Use & Lightweight It's light to hold so my arm doesn't tire when I have to hold it up for extended periods of time. I also like how simple it is to use. Just flip open the screen, and push a button to shoot a still photo, or start recording video. I've owned it less than a week... so far so good.

I am at the step where you guys ask for a proof of purchase, the model and serial numbers. I have been taken in a continuous loop, after I upload the picture, provide the model number, serial number, purchase date and where I purchased the camcorder, I take back to the page asking if I want a warranty. This page precedes the model and serial number page. Then, I will start the process all over again. Other than that, the product works great!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First use impressions Bought if just before a wedding, user's manual could be more helpful but overall was fairly easy to record videos. The screen images while shooting in low light conditions seemed better than the playback images and the autofocus was having some difficulty but overall I was pleased with the results. The zoom feature was great, really zoomed in well considering how light and compact the unit is . Still need to figure out how to edit and splice all the segments into one smooth flowing video. It is almost too small and too light to keep steady and controls are pretty small for anyone with large hands. Excellent picture quality in well lit conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony Sucks Tried getting a hold of someone for help. Good luck getting help. Their camcorders are horrible. I bought mine 2018 and it's ruined one of my SD card. Another old camcorder of theirs stopped taking cassettes. All of these contain memories of all of my dogs who died. NEVER BUY ANY SONY PRODUCT!!!!

This little, light camera has become my go to camera to carry with me at all times. Very happy with my purchase!
