Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not what I expected from Sony I bought this unit about 9 months ago. It has degenerated steadily for the past 3 or 4 months, then failed completely. At first by freeze frame, followed by loss of sound, then stopping completely while a fragmented still picture remained. Though still under the one year parts warranty, the labor warranty expired after 90 days. I did not feel that the parts warranty was worth the cost of shipment to a repair facility plus any labor charges. Instead, I chose to replace this unit with another Sony unit a little farther upscale.

Last week she stayed in that room for the first time, she never slept in that room before. She said that she wanted to because of the new DVD player, she had a great time in that room watching the DVD and when I told her that the unit also played CD's she went wild ! She loves to listen to Carrie Underwood. We could not get her out of that bedroom, for over a year or more we wanted her to sleep in one of our two spare bedroom but she wouldn't. She is 5 years old and after last weekend she now wants to come over and stay in the bedroom with the new Sony DVD / CD player. Feels great !!

The different options of how it can be used make this one better than the old one and my old remote works on this dvd player.

And I can control certain functions of my Sony TV with this remote. Set up was very easy. Compact, sleek design makes it easy to place.

Since about a week ago, the image showing on my TV screen was too large for the screen resulting in not being able to see all of the image. The TV itself shows images correctly so I believe it is a setting within the DVP itself only I do not know how to make the needed adjustment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little DVD Player Searching for a replacement DVD Player to work on my older HDTV that did not have multiple HDMI connectors (needed a component out on the DVD player) led me to few options available. This option turned out to be a great one. While it gave me the component out capability I needed today, it also has the HDMI and upscaling capability I desired to have to support a replacement TV we will be buying around year end. It was a simple install and intuitive to use. It cleanly plays dvd's with excellent quality. The remote control is simple and has all functions needed to operate. If only it could get up and put the DVD in for this couch potato. I highly recommend for any dvd user that doesn't require Blueray or 3D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far Great Purchased /1/10/15. Very Easy setup with HDMI cable. . Only issue is the same I had with the player it replaced. Have to use 2 Remotes. Comcast remote does not work with it. Have to use Visio TV remote to Choose INPUT source (HDMI 2) & Volume. SONY remote used only to Setup, Play/Pause open/close. No other functions work. Same as on previous DVD Players we owned. Frustrating.

Small because I will place it in storage until I return next year and since I pay for volume of storage I wanted small. The player does what it was designed for without frills and can display closed captions. Meets all my needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for a year I'll be honest ... I was a Sony fan from the 90s who had lapsed. I decided to test the waters after with an entry level purchase of a DVD player for the den. After less than a year (10 months) with my new DVD player it died. Took it into the Sony store and got my replacement, the DVP-SR510H. This 'replacement' lasted 14 months! Are these now throw-away pieces that are only supposed to last for a year? I've gotten more years out of a off-brand DVD player than this. I am loathe to revisit Sony products now given my personal experience with this simple but ineffectual piece of equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One star is more than this deserves I bought this device yesterday, and my husband installed it. When we went to use it, the dvd tray was stuck and would not open. We went through the entire manual to try to figure out what the problem might be, and found no help. When I googled, it turns out that this is a common problem connected to the child lock system. I found specific instructions for this problem, and attempted to follow them. However, it turns out that the instructions, though they are presented as specific to this model, bear no relationship to the choices available on the device menu/display. None of the remedies suggested on the website has the slightest effect on the problem. Perhaps the DVD player would be a good one of it worked, but the only remedy I see here (since the Sony support phone number I called suggested visiting the web site I had already visited to no avail and then cut me off) is to return this useless object to the place of purchase. What a waste of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap but Cheaply Manufactured Admittedly, we only paid approx $35 but considering that one of our collectible DVD would NOT eject, that was $35 too much. There is absolutely NO way to force eject with any form of external, manual ejection "pin," similar to those found on desktop DVD players/recorders. Complete disassembly of this overpriced thing was necessary to retrieve the DVD and THEN only risking damage to the DVD Damaging possibly irreplaceable DVDs, again, just is not worth any price for DVD players like this. C'mon, Sony, you're better than that. If you cannot produce reliable, "troubleshootable" DVD players in this price range then eliminate this unworthy price range entirely.

Bought this one, hooked it up, turned it on........picture was fuzzy, set up was extremely confusing, instructions didn't help---AND ALL MY MOVIES WERE PLAYED IN BLACK AND WHITE!! No Color! OH wait, I need to go buy a special HDMI cord that was not in the box--screw that--took it back.

Each time we would have to Open; wait; and finally play. Sometimes it would start and other times it would not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving it! NOTE: The weight that is shown on Sony's description seems very off. They show it as 18 pounds but it is nowhere near that - maybe 3 pounds, if that. . Our old portable dvd player (with a screen) died after many years of service. We get dvd's from N...x so we needed to replace the player fairly quickly. Our requirements were pretty simple - connect using AV cables (red, white, yellow) to our really old small Sharp Aquos, didn't have to be BluRay since we use standard dvd's, not too expensive, HAD TO READ DOLBY discs and works easily. At first we thought we needed to get a player with a screen, but after consideration realized we actually didn't need that feature since we only watch at home. I did a lot of research and the choices were somewhat limited. Still, there were enough to make choosing one a bit difficult. Finally we opted for this one. It came yesterday - ironically the same day we got our new N...x dvd. Opened the box, took the player out and connected it 1-2-3 to the tv using the av cable supplied and the plug (which is permanently attached to the player) into the wall outlet Put the new disc into the player, batteries (included) into the remote, set the input on my tv and powered it on. There was a brief setup guide and we were ready to watch. I must say just from this one movie - this little player is great. Everything worked smoothly and I really got a kick from the remote opening and closing the eject at a touch. I did have to fiddle with the aspect ratio on the tv which took 3 seconds. Pausing and restarting is easy - everything was easy. The size of the player is pretty small which for me is good because of limited counter space (we have the tv in the kitchen) The only drawback in my case is that there is actually no room for the player to stay on the counter all the time, so after use I have to unplug it and move it to another area. This is just my problem and isn't a negative about the player in any way. It would have been great if there was a case included but I suspect that most people are able to connect it to the tv and leave it. So the bottom line, after this one use, is that we really like this player and we're very happy with our choice. Time will tell whether we feel the same at a later date. But I'm hopeful that we will.

I finally got around to using it as my "more advanced" Sony blue ray disc player would not play my DVD-RWs. Let me tell you the DVP-SR510H played them all. The picture quality and the sound were outstanding. It was the best $20 I ever spent.

TRIED power on on the remote .. nothing happened TRIED power on button on the unit .. nothing happened Switched electrical outlet source & repeated power on ..NOTHING happened.. I based my decision to buy this DVD player due mainly on SONY's quality reputation. SONY failed miserably.. NEVER again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE - ONLY 90 DAY WARRANTY!! This player work ok for 95 days and then it starting playing in Black & White only. Then the picture was barely visible with "fishnet" looking patterns on the lighter areas of the screen. I called customer service and they said the product only had 90 day warranty. So you're okay with throwing away you $ on disposable DVD player then go for it. I won't buy a Sony product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Expected More From Sony I used to think the Sony name meant quality. Not any more. The DVD Upscaling Player Model DVP-SR510H is not worth any more than other off-brands. 1. Can't tell if power is on (if a light exists I cannot see it). 2. Very long delay when either eject button on unit or remote is got before it responds. 3. DVD load time is slower than it should be. 4. Older dvd tend to pause during replay a periodically then continue. Overall its ok but I would just get a cheaper brand next time for a "throw away" DVD player.

I have this player mounted high so it's difficult to see what it's doing so the lights would have been useful. I know it was made as an affordable player but LEDs are cheap, they could have at least have one for the power button on the deck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PIECE OF JUNK !!!!! This piece of junk ( and I'm being kind ) is very noisy. It makes a loud clicking sound the entire time a DVD is in the machine. It will not play some DVDs but will play others even if it's played them before. It won't play many brand new DVDs right out of the package but sometimes if you keep ejecting and reloading them it might. It will freeze while playing and you must stop play and start again from the beginning. I clean every DVD every time I play it and use a lens cleaner every 8-10 hours. It has done this from the start and has nothing to do with anything being dirty.

This complaint may sound trivial but if you are like me and enjoy taking a look at details in films by using freeze frame and frame by frame then this design flaw (IMHO) will annoy you too. I've never had a video player (even my first VHS in the 80's) that you couldn't hold down the forward or reverse frame by frame button and and watch the frames tick by. Well... on this 21st century DVD, you have to manually push the buttons 20, 30, 40 times to find the frame you're looking for! RIDICULOUS!!! Otherwise.... this is a great little unit!!

It played fine after turning the unit off until we were outside the return window on Amazon. Now the DVD player will only load the DVD if we open the door as if we were removing the disc and putting a new one in. We can’t just turn the DVD player on with a disc already in it. It won’t play. We have to open the door every time. It’s frustrating and I’m sure opening the door every time we want to play a DVD will lead to a quicker break down of the components.

THE DESCRIPTION STATED PLAYS DVD+RW DVD+R DVD-RW DVD-R IN ONE CASE IT ACTUALLY CAUSE ONE RECORDED MOVIE TO NOT WORK IN THE DVD RECORDER. i THOUGHT SONY WOULD HAVE A BETTER PRODUCT BUT i WAS WRONG. I'LL KEEP IT TIL IT BREAKS THEN I'LL REPLACE IT WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND.It also does noes not have a code for Hisense tv.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multi-Disc Resume I purchased this unit for it's multi-disc resume function when playing music CD's. The function is turned ON in the custom settings. From the description it sounds like it should resume play from the stop point of up to 6 cd's. Even after being powered off then back on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How do I increase volume? The picture is good and it works well most of the time, but nothing changes when I press + or - volume on the remote. The unit sometimes does not recognize DVDs, and I have a hunch that this usually happens when it has been left on for an extended period of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect For Me I got this DVD player so that I can watch my DVDs on my HDTV instead of on my laptop. It was easy to connect it via HDMI cable to the TV. It works perfectly for me since I only plan to us it to watch DVDs and nothing else. I also like its compact size since I live in a small apartment and space is at a premium.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This DVD player delivers This DVD player was easy to set up. I have a Sony Bravia TV so it worked immediately with my TV. The video is crisp and clear. The sound is big bold and clear (it goes through a sound bar and woofer). As far as I am concerned there is nothing negative to be said about this DVD player.
