My last 980 m.2 was the first drive I've ever had fail. It lasted right around two years while the HDD I picked up at the same time is still kicking. Even so, I wouldn't count them out.
While working, it was as fast as expected, they're easy to install, and are still a top choice for computer enthusiasts, gamers, content creators, etc.

I purchased this NVME back in 2021 and so far it's performed exactly how od expect. There may be a little bit of wear as seen using crystal disk, but no bad sectors or anything major (it's still has 93% health after 4 years of use). I did slap on an aftermarket m.2 drive cooler which does mitigate the temps a lot, otherwise it's Samsung and it's quality.

SAMSUNG SSD IS THE BEST
I purchase two of the 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD 1TB about a year ago, one to upgrade my new HP Probook and used the second SSD in a StarTech Enclosure for an external back-up drive.
I used the Samsung Software to clone the drive and as usual the software from Samsug worked flawlessly.
Both drives are super super fast and are working perfectly and I have not had one issue with either drive.
For the past 6 or 7 years I have upgraded several of my laptops and desktops going back and starting with 840, 850 and 860 Series, everyone one is still working and going strong. Even the older ones are still fast and working as good as the first day I installed them.
SAMSUNG SSDs are the best!!! I would not use any other brand.

In 2020, my college gave me a new Dell inspiron laptop to provide access to online classes due to COVID-19. To my suprise, the system only had 40 Gigabites of hard drive space, which was enough space for Windows 10 and Microsoft Office. Best Drive For Recording
I bought this as an upgrade for my recording PC. I couldn't be happier. The huge files a recording engineer has to work with can really bog down the old spinning disc drives. This will transfer, upload, download all quicker than I ever imagined AND it's a safe and secure drive which makes my clientele happy.

I've had this for about 2 1/2 years and it hasn't failed me yet I'm proud to be a samsung user I have a z fold 5 that I absolutely love been a samsung user since the S4 or older always have and always well 100% satisfied customer I just wish repairs were cheaper. You guys should look into making GPUs,CPUs and RAM they will sell and I'll buy if the specs are better

Ultra fast read and write speeds and more than enough storage space for any normal user. If you're storing a lot of games I'd recommend getting a 2TB ssd unless you keep your files tidy like me and delete games you don't play often.

I used a Samsung SSD on my first PC build about 5 years ago. It's been the most reliable and fast storage I've used so far. Now I have a 980PCIe and it's even faster and smoother on transferring storage and loading games.

I used to have a Samsung SSD as my boot drive, so I was a bit skeptic to switch to a NVMe drive, since i didn't think it would change anything at all. But boy, am I glad I did the change. Bootup time was cut down to seconds, and most of my programs seem to respond faster.

Durability and reliability you can't find anywhere
I've been buying Samsung SSD since 2008 or so. I love their products, The drives with the least failures.. Recently I need to replace some of my NVME and Sata SSD. I need large capacity and Samsung didn't have 4TB. So I tried 2 other companies in 6 months, both of the other drives failed with 90 days. I went back to the Samsung 980 pro w/ heatsink and it works like a champ and it's faster then both other drives.

Been using this drive for about 4 months. The read and write speeds are great compared to my Crucial SSD. Games load super fast and the throughput of the drive keeps them from stuttering. Only down side is in read intense games the drive can get very hot.

Wasn't sure what to think of the Samsung 980 PRO, but it is fast! Easy to install and lightning fast. It has absolutely SPEED and quality that one comes to expect from Samsung. I watch my spouse spend most of my day in Adobe Programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. She used to get frustrated at how slow the programs were, but with this all I hear is her raving about how fast everything is! I do think this gets hotter than I'd like - even with the heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control. I feel better that they are looking at addressing that, but it misses the mark. Otherwise don't look at anything else - just trust this product to greatly increase your expectations.

Super Fast Drive
The Samsung SSD 980 is a very fast and reliable drive. I currently use a 2.5 inch wide Samsung SSD from a few years ago and the difference in speed and responsiveness is absolutely noticed. I cloned over my main OS and have it running on this drive and opening programs is as fast as a blink of an eye. Windows loads in 13 seconds on cold boot up which is amazing considering my old SSD was around 40 seconds. Loading Photoshop is about 2 seconds. As I work with large photos of videos, I no longer have lag scrubbing though the files. What I really like about Samsung is that they control the entire supply chain when building their SSD drives including their controllers which I feel helps optimize the entire SSD and also aids in Samsung's great reliability record. 3500mb/s are speeds that only a few years ago where not mass market. The Samsung SSD is air cooled and has a special nickel coating to help keep things cool as the shear speed of drive is keeping performance at top priority without worry of overheating. I feel absolutely amazed at all the time in engineering Samsung has put into making this drive perform the way is does. This kind of performance really helps especially in video editing and opening large file sizes with ease. I can finally scrub through 4k video on my computer smoothly. Great job Samsung.

I am very impressed with this little SSD. I have used other NVMe SSDs and did not have a good experience with their speed benefits until I came across this one. I thought I would give a Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD a shot and I am very glad I went with this 1TB model. It is able to quickly boot my computer, transfer large video and photo files from my scuba diving trip to Cozumel (GoPro), and works perfectly for my video games. All in all, if you are looking for an all-in-one solution, I recommend this NVMe drive. Don't make the mistake of going with a slightly cheaper model - the logic controller on this drive is worth the money.

Been using Samsung products ever since I swapped to m2s from SSDs. They are super fast and provide reliable performance.
I concurrently own the 970 EVO Plus, 980 Pro and now the 980 all at 1 TB storage capacities. Each of them have been very fast, significantly faster than any standard SATA SSD's and the 980 is no exception.
I'm very happy with the performance but agree with the argument that NVMe PCI Express Gen 4 drives would likely not really make a huge difference over fast PCIe Gen3 SSD drives. Also the drives obviously cost more.
I'm currently using a the 980 pro for the operating system and the 1tb 980 for storing games and load times are blazing fast.This is a very high quality product and you won't be disappointed in the performance.

This was installed on the family computer and while the previous drive was a typical "SATA SSD" I never noticed how slow it was. After learning about different storage types, I now realize why NVMe is so much faster. And it is noticeable! The load times for the initial startup is almost instant now. I don't even see the windows loading screen. Pictures are clicked and opened almost immediately. I didn't know that a storage device could make such a difference, but my family has informed me that my PC is more than capable and switching to this drive was the breath of life it needed to be brought back into the 21st Century. Overall super happy with the drive.

Best storage for your buck!
I was so happy to be selected to review this hard drive for my own personal home editing/gaming PC.
The installation requires a small knowledge of PC hardware or at least referencing your motherboard or laptop manual to locate M.2 slots on your computer. Please note that this hard drive does not come with the screws or standoffs to install to a motherboard. I bought a M.2 hardware kit for a few dollars on Amazon and was all set.
Once installation was complete I formatted my new 1 TB NVME drive to my system and immediately started moving my large RAW photo files over to it and was transferred about 48 Gigs of pictures in about 90 seconds which was simply amazing!!! Editing directly off the drive in Lightroom was noticeably better also!
I highly recommend this drive for anyone who has the spare the M.2 slots and wants super fast game load times faster files transfers, or anything you need super fast sotrage for. This will do the job!

I've had my 1TB 980 installed as my system/boot drive for 11 months, and it has given me rock-solid reliability and a serious boost in boot speed over the Seagate spinner it replaced.
I'm getting ready to build a new PC, and I will definitely move the 980 to that new system. I'll be looking for motherboards with two (or more) M.2 slots so I can add another, larger Samsung NVME SSD for faster access when I'm editing video, or streaming media files using PLEX or Jellyfin.

Great value and reliability.
I looked through a bunch of options on amazon. This drive came out to be the greatest value and have the best set of features for it's price range. All the other drives seem untrustworthy, I hope samsung has my back when it comes to storage. These devices are darn fast too, they never hiccupped on me or had any issues doing anything.

This is my first NVMe storage device but even coming from an SSD the speeds are night and day, I'm using this one for my boot drive and my PC can be off or asleep and when I turn it on, it's on almost instantly. My drive before I would be able to make a cup of coffee and come back and still have to wait for Windows to fully boot up.

Great speeds, but not usable with Magician
i am receiving a similar error to a previous reviewer's post about the samsung magician software not recognizing the drive/driver. it says that i am using an intel driver and that it only supports microsoft or samsung nvme drivers. when going into device management my system shows that i have the most recent microsoft driver installed. the listed nvme driver download on samsung's website is not compatible with my 980 and does not allow me to download it because of this reason. samsung's response to the previous reviewer's similar issue does not help or remedy the problem. i have made sure that i have the latest version of magician and still receive this issue. i am unsure why samsung has released this ssd without a compatible driver?

Fast and low cost
This is a DRAM-less SSD. While the performance is not as good as DRAM SSD like 970 EVO Plus, it is very fast and hard to tell the difference in real life. With its low cost, I would highly recommend it.

what you expect when you buy a product is that it performs as advertised and if anything goes wrong the manufacturer will stand behind their product.
my 980 ssd failed, suddenly and without any warning 3 weeks ago and i still do not have a working ssd.
i did not get what i expected when i bought this product. based on my experience with the 980 ssd i would say overall, it is a bad product.
i would not recommend this product to anyone - do not buy!!!

Check your motherboard first
Dell’s shipping method was fantastic, fast and reliable.
If you are planning to use it with PCI-E adapter card like me, Check your motherboard spec to see if it supports NVME first. My old PC doesn’t but I confirmed it works flawlessly with a newer PC.
There appears to be workaround with UEFI boot even if no support with motherboard, I haven’t tried it yet.

When I plugged in the ssd there was no screw to secure but it was not needed and was coming the mail later, but for some reason my of did not recognize the device and it was not popping up with disk management or a installation to pop it up. I don’t know what to do to make it work.

I've owned it for about a year now, no complaints at all. It's just as fast as it was when I first got it, the Samsung Magician software works well for firmware updates and checking it's health, and it's never lost any data or cut out or anything like that. I'm confident that it'll last the rest of my laptop's life, and I'll likely buy a 980 series SSD when I build a new gaming PC in a year or two.

I bot this several months ago to use as the boot drive on my desktoo pc. This drive is phenominal. It's fast, reluable, and just works. I replace a slower 500gb drive. Now I want a 2tb or 4tb drive so I don't have to access extra drives for atorage.
