Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing really fills a room with quality sound! I want to start with a note my system came with an USB stick in the box that had update on it, so I never experienced the loss of pairing issue others have. The sound bar absolutely blow all the previous sound bars i have ever had away. Clear, crisp, positional sound is achieved with little effort from me. once i had it connected and went through some setting changes on my XBOX One X I was watching movies in Dolby Atmos and I was blown away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best soundbar on the market! I'm going to start my review off a little differently than I do most. If you are looking at or even considering this soundbar for purchase...GET IT. There. Now, let me explain why... The soundbar market is ever-expanding and slowly getting better in quality. You have those that prefer a full home theater system and they will argue that even a lower quality home theater system (5.1 would be better than even an Atmos soundbar, because the Atmos is usually very "gimmicky". Then you have others who prefer the soundbar due to various reasons, such as aesthetics and space limitations. I fall into the soundbar crowd. So, why should someone who prefers soundbars suffer from "lesser quality" than those who prefer a full home theater system? Well...we no longer have to...and for not much more than a higher quality home theater system would cost! Enter the Samsung Q90R, Samsung's flagship model for 2019. Under this model, you also have the Q80R (the same system as the Q90, just minus the rear Atmos speakers) and their smaller sibling, the Q70R. There's also a Q60R as well, I believe. These were made in partnership with Harman/Kardon and woah, it shows. These soundbars are designed to go with their respective Q-series Samsung TV's, even down to the size, to match. If you already have one of these TV's, even better. If not, they still work great solo - just minus a few "quality of life" features that basically builds the soundbar into the TV (feature-wise). It's definitely not a deal-breaker, however. I personally feel that this series of soundbars is the first to make them a viable centerpiece for your Home Theater setup. This is the Q90R. Let's get to it! Let's take a look at the packaging first - this is usually where our first impressions come from. No standard L-shaped "Tetris" soundbar box here. Nope. This is a full-fledged packaging. This can be a bit awkward (and heavy) to move around and/or carry, so, you MAY need help. Inside, everything is packaged great. Upon opening the box, the first thing I see is a bag with an included USB thumb drive that includes the (still current, as of this review) 1008.0 firmware. I believe they included this because some people were having issues with updating the firmware from the factory version. This 1008.0 version also fixes an issue where the rear speakers would pop/crackle and wireless connection problems. Up top, the first thing you get to is the soundbar itself. Weighing in at nearly 20 lb. alone, this thing is a behemoth! It's color and full metal body/grill are a sight to behold. Getting this out of the box, below you will find the subwoofer, two rear surround speakers and a box with all of your accessories (power cables, remote, HDMI cable, etc - everything you will need for hookup), all well packaged. As far as general impressions go, I'm going to be gushing over pretty much everything for this review. Let me say - this DOES NOT HAPPEN OFTEN. I am prone to finding issues with things and also being super picky in various aspects when I am setting up and using something. While there are some minor flaws here and there (I mean, nothing is perfect!), I literally cannot find a single thing to dock a star for. The quality of this soundbar is exceptional. Of all the soundbars I've ever owned in the past, or even seen on store shelves, this one is king. The only thing I can think of to advise here is - make sure you have the space for this! Unboxing it is an "OMG" experience and I immediately began wondering how I'm going to make it fit. I didn't. I had to buy a whole new entertainment center to accommodate this beast. And I'm glad I did. Even in the new entertainment center, I had it on the shelf just below the TV and found that the upper shelf was blocking the upward-firing Atmos speakers. So, I had to get a riser stand for the TV just so I could move this soundbar up top with the TV. Without the riser stand, it would have blocked some of the bottom of my LG C8's screen. Ok, setup! You are going to want to spend some time setting this up properly. By "properly", I mean updating the firmware (which takes about 30 minutes) and getting the rears on wall mounts or some form of speaker stands. I will warn you that the rears weigh about 4.5 lb. each and may be incompatible with some speaker stands. The stands I got would not hold them properly and they were sagging. So, I got a pair of stands (Monoprice) where I could just sit the speakers on them and they worked perfectly and look good, to boot! For the firmware update, the maintenance USB port is underneath the soundbar (really, my biggest complaint...). I had to prop the bar on it's backside and pray that it didn't fall over on me while I had the USB stick in, doing the update. The instructions that came with the thumb drive are VERY specific. There are multiple steps and you MUST follow them exactly. I think the reason why a lot of people still have issues with the rear speakers after the update is because they didn't do the last step, which is updating the subwoofer and rear speakers after the initial update to the soundbar. I did the update specifically as outlined and it took about 30 minutes total and have had ZERO connection issues. On the rear, you have one HDMI input, two HDMI outputs and an optical input. There is NO ethernet network cable port on this. I used the optical input for my PC sound and it works fantastic! I use it primarily for gaming on my PS4 PRO and also watch Netflix/Hulu, etc via my TV apps. Everything works great together. I also wanted to say that I've read and heard about issues from others with Samsung soundbars and LG TV's not playing well together. Well, I guess that issue is fixed with this soundbar as well, as I've not had any problems. CEC works great and everything shuts down and powers on automatically, depending on what I'm using. The HDMI ports on the Q90R are 2.0. Nope, no 2.1 here. Which, given the price of this, made me a little sad...and the fact of knowing that next years model will likely have 2.1 ports. But regardless, it's still pretty future-proof because of the e-ARC support. If you also have an e-ARC supported TV (likely via a firmware update, if one was available...I know the LG C8 TV's and previous models did not get an e-ARC update...) that you can plug the device into another HDMI port of your TV and it would basically act as if it were plugged straight into the soundbar. You can get full, uncompressed audio, including Dolby Atmos, via ARC. I did want to also comment on the wireless bass speaker. Not only is it MUCH bigger than I expected, but it's side-firing. Also, if you own cats (or other shedding animals, lol) - be super careful. The side of the bass has a huge, round fabric mesh on it which can easily be clawed and destroyed (and collect lint, dust and fur equally as well). Just be mindful of that. I did also quickly want to go over the Samsung SmartThings app. Honestly, this gave me the biggest impression of all, as I didn't have very high expectations. I was worried that it would be useless, not very functional or just gimmicky. Seeing it had great reviews in the iOS app store, I immediately thought...well, it must not be that bad! It's great, actually. Download the app, create or sign into your Samsung account and get started. You can create a "room" in the app that each of your Samsung devices are located and even move the devices in-between rooms. You can also fully control the soundbar via the app! This includes input, levels for bass, center, left, right, etc. Oh and the main reason you want this app is for the firmware updates. Given that I've already updated via the USB and there's not been a new firmware released since this one, back in July, there's no updates currently available. But it's nice to know I can do my future updates via this app. Finally, lets go over sound quality. Let me preface this by saying I do have a hearing disorder (mostly in my right ear), but both ears have certain tone frequencies that I can and cannot hear easily. I want to say, this Q90R soundbar has the best sound that I've ever heard from either a soundbar or a dedicated Home Theater System. Cranking up Fortnite on my PS4, which was PLENTY loud for me, even at 20% volume (it goes to 100%...), I was able to hear sounds and effects that I've literally never heard before. EVER. Mind blown. Even my wife was seriously impressed and she's not easily impressed by electronics and gadgets. I also tested the new Borderlands 3 and Remnant games and both were equally impressive! I moved to Netflix, via my LG C8 TV app and tried out Love, Death and Robots (which also has a great Atmos track)...it almost blew me out of the room. I'm used to the volume of this show being super low on other soundbars I've played it on. Not now! ***Because of this soundbar, I can hear things so much better and so much clearer and for that, Samsung, I thank you. Thank you for providing me with something that will allow me to experience and enjoy fuller and more sound in my games and movies that I otherwise would have never experienced. I've never been this far immersed in sound in my life.*** In conclusion, I absolutely LOVE this soundbar and hope that it lasts me many, many years, until I'm finally ready to move over to HDMI 2.1. This gets 5-stars all the way. The price and sound quality alone kills any other soundbar out there and even some standard 5.1 home theater systems. I seriously can't recommend this (or again, any soundbar in the Q-series) enough. Buy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Soundbar Moving to minimalistic setup from a full blown definitive & marantz 5.1 setup, i was not sure if soundbar would really impress me. Tested the flagship models from Sony and Naka but it was this that sounded the best. The firmware update is a hassle but so worth it. Please remember to power cycle the device after you upgrade. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too many bugs! Research a lot before buying Just to make this quick, when switching between hdmi, it tends to not recognize what’s plugged into the hdmi ports. Unplug and plug back in, it magically works again. No thank you. Also, I have a small living room but the rear speakers and sub continuously disconnect and reconnect throughout a movie, using either surround or Dolby. I am frustrated and would return this if it wasn’t past the 15 day allowance. Going back to my other system. When this works, it’s fantastic. All updates were installed as well. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible waste of money, Only sounds good Once! This is an amazing sounding theater system. A fabulous system the first time the speakers all connect, which happens only once. After the initial time everything is plugged in and turned on, the rear speakers and subwoofer will have to be re-paired each time you want to use the rears and sub. Even then after re-pairing most of the time the sub doesn't work. I have contacted Samsung customer service (terrible BTW), they walked me through updating firmware and reconnecting. Nothing Helps, ultimately wasting more time before returning a disappointing product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall, a great purchase I've been watching this soundbar for a few months, and the reviews started to dissuade me from purchasing it. The connection issues, the timeout issues... it seemed to be a lot to risk. After the latest software upgrade, I decided to purchase it knowing that I could return it if I wasn't satisfied. Paired it with a new Q60 65" TV and set them both up. I love it. Sound is phenomenal through Amazon Fire and my Xbox One. I'm using the Xbox as my DVD player, as it supports Atmos, and the soundbar works great with it. No cutting in and out. No timeout issues. Connected on the first try. Either everyone else got a bad batch and I lucked out, or Samsung fixed their shortcomings. It is expensive, yes. But if you were going to purchase a 7.1.4 system for your home using separate components, you wouldn't be able to get anywhere near the price of this soundbar. For someone who isn't a total audiophile and doesn't want to fish cables through walls and find the space to mount a myriad of speakers, this is the correct solutions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Sound, No connection issues. Don't believe the negative reviews, This soundbar is pretty sweet. I originally had the Q80r soundbar, but felt like I needed the rear speakers. I was really hesitant because of all the negative reviews on the connections issues. Samsung must have fixed that with the firmware updates. I have only 1 minor issue with the soundbar, but I had the same issue with the Q80r soundbar. So my connection is the Q80r tv with the HW-Q90r soundbar through arc connections, I have my apple tv4k connected to the soundbar(HDMI1 as well as a PS4 Pro directly into my TV in the (HDMI 1) connection. I did the PS4 Pro right into the TV to avoid any input lag. So having done that, I expected that I could just use the Samsung TV remote to turn on and off the TV and soundbar and all connected devices, doesnt quite work that way. Also it doesn't work to change my inputs/sources from the apple TV to the Ps4 Pro. So the minor thing I do, is simply use the soundbar remote to change my input sources. As long as you understand a little tech, not a big issue. I could see this being an issue for my wife though. Maybe samsung will firmware update this issue. all around though GREAT SOUNDBAR! No connection issues at all. only a -1 star for this feature issue of the source change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The worst tech support Finding someone at Samsung who understands their own QLED and HW-Q90r interface is impossible. When it works, it sounds great but I have issues with HDMI 1 port working properly with no help from Samsung, Their tech's books don't differentiate between source select on the TV and the HE-Q90 itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sub and rear speakers lose connectiin The HW Q90R is a fantastic sounding soundbar when when it is working properly. Probably the best sounding bar I have ever heard. I just wish it would work. Seems there is a fairly large percentage of these units that dont function as they should. My unit is now back at the Samsung repair facility for the second time in 10 days. When you set up the system it works perfectly. After you turn off the system, the next day the sub and surrounds do not produce sound even though the blue light on each speaker shows they are connected. The only solution is to unplug the main soundbar and plug back into power or do a manual setup on all.of the speakers. This has to be done each time the soundbar is turned off or goes into standby. Extremely annoying for a product with as much potential as this one. First trip to the repair facility came back with could not identify a problem, I don't expect much better this trip either. Samsung needs to address this issue _ way too many units out there exhibiting this problem, not just in the US but in many other countries. Av forums and Samsung forums are starting to have numerous complaints. Until this issue is fixed, I cant recommend this product to anyone. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Update to my previous review! Problem Solved... i no longer have connection issues with the rear speakers or the sub.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No speaker distance, weak conf. possibilities This is sold as premium product, but there are huge lacks that should be implemented: -possibility to set speaker distance - without it we cant really have proper sound from around -configuration using application - extremely limited, all settings should be possible to change using phone application -no test sounds - there should be possibility to execute some test sounds to verify all speakers - this is minor, but would be usefull Besides, this soundbar delivers great sound in Atmos mode. Often in Dolby Digital sound is flat (some sound settings helps). Adding speaker distance and more configuration possibilities would probably change sound to much better level - after those changes I would recommend this product. Without it, I cant unfortunately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Atmos done right ... No doubt about it, this sound bar system does Atmos and DTS-X proper. Now fix the dependency between the firmware version reflected on the product support page AND SmartThings. They are not equal. =/= Also work on improving on the wireless 'linking' between the speaker components. There are issues there. And stop with the robotic social media, cookie-cut responses. Not valuable. Be more human and prosper ! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from could be a great soundbar The HW Q90R is a fantastic sounding soundbar when it is working properly. Probably the best sounding bar I have ever heard. The addition of rear upfiring surrounds adds greatly to the overall effect of the unit. This is also the best soundbar I have used for music playback with the sub adding rich bass effect that can make you want to get up and dance (just ask my kids). During movie playback, voices are clear and when using dolby atmos or dts:x sources, it is as close to movie theater sound as you can reproduce in your home without a separate receiver and multiple speakers. I just wish it would work. Seems that a number of these units don't function as they should. My unit is now back at the Samsung repair facility for the second time in 10 days. When you set up the system it works perfectly. Is this issue firmware related or hardware related? What are your plans to remedy the problem on these affected units? If this problem is resolved, this soundbar is definitely the one to have if you really want the best sound you can get with a soundbar system. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soundbar and SW work great, Rears not so much i bought the q90r brand new online. after unboxing and hooking everything up i was unable to get any sound out of the right rear speaker. i did the test tones and sound only comes out of the left rear speaker. right rear speaker is completely silent. the wifi led is solid blue so i have wifi connectivity with the bar. all firmware is up to date on all speakers. this all points to a defect speaker. unfortunately, rather than send me a replacement speaker to try out, i would need to send the entire bar to nj. i decided against this since the rears don't add much sound anyway. soundbar and subwoofer work great though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low voice, high sound effect technical issue i have to say this soundbar has been causing issues with netflix streaming app, fandangonow app, and and even vudu app for long time. every time when i stream a 4k movie in dolby atmos content on netflix app there is low voice clarity and loud sound effects. i have called samsung support center several times to resolve this issue once and for all but they never able help me out as predicted. this issue has been with any dolby atmos content only on netflix, vudu, and fandangonow. now samsung are not releasing any update on resolving this issue for long time despite knowing about the technical problem. i am disappointed and mad when i paid over $800 for soundbar and subwoofer excluding rear speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wanted to say Best Soundbar in the Market, But! i'm a big fan of samsung products, i really wanted to call this a best soundbar out in the market, but i have to cut down 2 stars due to the below issues. especially this product is not cheap. 1) the rear speakers (mainly my left rear speaker), keeps making popping sound if i watch any dolby atmos content via streaming service. it works great if i play dolby atmos content via blu ray disks, but if i do stream at least 6 to 8 times i hear popping sound during the movie. it's so disappointing that, samsung built a wonderful sound system like this, but misses to fix or take care of the small areas. 2) poor customer service, i have reached out customer service for a replacement, but they have refused to exchange, instead i have to ship my speakers and to have it fixed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, when it works I purchased this system 6 months ago. I'll start off by saying the sound quality is great. HOWEVER, the rear speakers cut in and out constantly. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zero sound from rear speakers or subwoofer.... I ordered the 7.1.4 system, really looking forward to finally having surround in my living room. I'm still looking forward to it, because even with all components sync'd and all showing the latest firmware, I still get ZERO sound from the subwoofer or the rear surrounds. Chatting with Samsung Tech Support has been totally useless. They apparently have an ultra-simple call deck that has no more info than the super useless manual. I want a detailed, technically oriented manual, not a quick-start guide written for a fourth-grader masquerading as a manual. How about addressing the underlying issues for "yes, my components are sync'd but i'm still getting zero sound from any satellites", instead of assuming that everything simply works once synched?

Also LIP SYN issues are terrible. It needs to be adjusted daily and changed for each channel. I and family will no longer watch this TV because of the sound and constant lip syn issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audio/Video glitches every 5 mins recently got the soundbarQ90 for $1400 and boy I am so disappointed. connected using HDMI ARC to VIZIO TV and plugged in my XBOX and Apple tv to HDMI of the soundbar. Tried playing a video on HULU on my xbox and video/kept of pausing in between so many times!! -Tried with replacing all HDMI cables with brand new ones and still seeing the issue. -Updated the firmware also and still same issue. Not even able to watch a 5 mins video with out disruption. Tried HBO on xbox and saw the same issue and HBO displayed “HDCP error”. For a high end 1400$ sound bar this is unacceptable. Contacted the samsung chat and followed all there step but still no go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound system I bought this sound bar with my new LG C9 OLED, works really great, the sound quality is like you're in a movie theatre ! Many reviews talk about problems related to speakers disconnecting..I think that was before the firmware update because I didn't experience any of these issues. I just wish that there was wall mount for the rear surround speakers, I ended up buying a book shelf from amazon that fits really nicely the speakers. Movies with Dolby Atmos are so much fun to watch and to enjoy the sound ! Highly recommend !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as expected I bought this product because of the some features like Atmos that are not working correctly. This might be due to having a two year old tv. So my advice would be not to buy this product unless you are also paring it with their top of the line new tv.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soundbar is great, support is terrible I received this soundbar for a gift. The sound is fantastic, but the support from Samsung has been less than stellar. First, it came missing parts (two screws). Called to get replacements and have had nothing but issues with them. Secondly, the advertisement about working with Alexa is a farce. Yes, you can register the soundbar with alexa, but it is only as a swtich, which means it can only be turned on/off. Cannot get audio to play through it, nor can you adjust the volume. Three months of 'tech support' and they list playing music as a future feature request. It is prominently advertised on the home page for this product. It is not a future feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound it is like you are in a movie theater. the rear speakers are great, and the subwoofer really makes the ground shake. the only problem i have been having is when i turn the tv off and turn it on the next morning, sometimes the soundbar does not automatically connect to the tv, so the tv goes straight to "tv sound" instead of "arc". it doesn't happen every day, but it happens about 50% of the time. when i turn the tv off, it automatically turns off the soundbar, but sometimes when i turn tv back on the soundbar does turn on automatically, but it fails to connect to tv for soundbar sound. it is a little frustrating because i then have to turn off all components then turn them on again for the tv and soundbar to connect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing exceeded my expectations I brought Q90R home yesterday after doing a good deal of internet research. I needed a soundbar to go with the living room television (a Samsung). Up til now I had discrete home theatre systems but we just moved and I didn't want to hang speakers, run wires, etc. One of the appealing characteristics of the Q90R is that the sub and rear surrounds are truly wireless (except the power cords). The setup was extremely easy - I only had one issue and it was due to my own stupidity (RTFM). The sound out of this thing is terrific! I bought an Apple 4K TV to use with it and last night my wife and rewatched a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones. We were completely blown away. The only downside for this unit is that is on the high side of cost, but if you're patient you can find it on sale at the big box retailers. Bottom line: if you have the bucks, you won't be sorry acquiring this thing. Good job Samsung!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audio Drop-outs Be careful when purchasing this unit. I have a Sony A9G using the eARC interface. When I'm watching anything with Dolby Atmos it experiences micro dropouts. Have tried different cables, setting, updating firmware. Nothing works. When is does work, the sounds is second to none.

After update its producing excellent crisp sound quality with awesome sound crearity. It has added a new dimension to this flagship soundbar. This investment is worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No sound from subwoofer and rear speakers! I bought this couple months ago.. updated the software (form ware) using USB.. again using WiFi setting... parried and re-paired the subwoofer and the rear speakers went through the cycle two or three times ....still no sound from subwoofer and rear speakers called support and all they can tell me is to return the product for warranty and wait 14 days! I compare this to LGSK10Y... Surround sound us much much better with LG, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Samsung is doing field testing with our dollars! Beta! Bought this with 8K TV - NOT WORTH IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Stands for rear Speakers!!!! I really wanted to purchase this as I love the Atmos and technology that this has. however, samsung decided to not make or find a way to mount the rear speakers. I don't have a bookshelf or anything to place these speakers on. Seems like a major oversight that the other manufacturers don't make

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disconnects, makes popping noises I purchased this soundbar directly from Samsung. Worked great at first, but then after about two weeks of use the subwoofer would repeatedly disconnect and make popping noises at random. Static comes from the rear speakers too. I returned the soundbar and purchased a brand new one and the same thing happens. Very disappointed that I paid $1700 and have all these issues. If I connect my phone via Bluetooth, and control the volume with my phone it turns the soundbar up to MAX volume whether I push up or down on the iPhone. This happened on both units. I spoke to Samsung via phone and they said they would service it, but will not pay for the shipping. Yes, they provided a return label, but the quote to ship the entire soundbar system was over $100 to package it as I don't have the original box. You would think they would mail you an empty box to put the unit in and return to them like most business do, but nope. Samsung asked me to pay for it myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dont even consider buying this - No support Have just bought this soundbar - it is impossible to get subwoofer and surround speakers to connect to soundbar. Seems to be a massive problem experienced by many other users. We have spent hours following instructions on the Samsung site and other webites on how to resolve this, but to no avail. The support line were not interested in helping us - So basically we have bought a very expensive item that does not work. Surely you would expect a brand new product in the price range to work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great sound when it works I bought this last week from Best Buy. Set up was easy enough and when running the test demos from my laptop every speaker was connected and Atmos sounded great things were looking up.I have this sound bar connected to my LG C9 oled which utilizes eARC which i found out later this sound bar isn't compatible with a. When hooking up my Ps4 or Satellite box i would always after about 20-30 seconds get "PRT" show up on the sound bar screen and it would shut off. From what i understant "PRT" means protection so its shutting itself off to prevent damage. switching to one of the TV's non eARC connections helped the ps4 but not satellite box where it would shut down again, while the sound bar was working it had a lot of pops and was like someone was messing with the equalizer dials for the voice channel. voices were constantly increasing or decreasing in volume. When i try Bluetooth from my phone same thing happens 20-30 seconds of bad poppy sound that goes in and out and "PRT" shut down. The sound bar was updated to 1008 for the firmware and i made sure i had good HDMI 2.0 cables i even tried disconnecting from the TV to see if that was the issue but i still get "PRT" every time. Since im stil in the best buy return window its going back which is a shame since when it is working properly it does sound amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nope, Hard Pass this is so disappointing for the cost. you have to have the sub so close to the soundbar makes no sense. the bluetooth surround speakers work randomly or will work for a while then cut out with the added bonus of the sub crackling. it can't handle changing inputs , sound just goes off then you get the joy of turning everything off and back on to get it to work. doesn't appear to like alexa the most. bonus when you call customer service not helpful or knowledgeable of the product plus unwilling to replace, super. so i would recommend hard pass on these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound! Read a lot of reviews before purchasing. Some good some bad. Bought it, got it, set it up. Very impressed with the way it was packaged in the box. Very well protected. 1st issue was what speaker stands to use for the rear surrounds. Searched a lot, found some that worked great except they didn't come with the correct size screws to attach to the stands. 3 different sizes supplied, none were correct. Called Sony to learn what size I needed to buy. No one at Sony knew. Went to my garage went thru many different sizes I had on hand and found 1 that worked. Went to Home Depot and got some. Assembled speakers to stands and I'm in business. Sub and rears connected beautifully to bar. Testing: Put in Avengers: Infinity War. HOLY COW!!! Sounded AWESOME. I was blown away. Didn't get any Atmos effect but I didn't expect to, I have a cathedral ceiling. But overall, the sound was incredible. I was very happy. Then, as with many of the reviews I read, sound cut out. Only for about 1 or 2 seconds. Lost picture without losing sound twice. OK, I read the reviews, I know how to fix this issue. UPDATE bar, sub, and rears. Right? Ok, have to download "Smart Things" app for phone to do update. Tried for about an hour, can't get app on phone. Called Sony support, got passed around a while, nobody knows anything. Finally was sent to app people support. So after about an hour I finally learned app is not compatible with my phone. Rats! OK, I just do update by USB. Downloaded update, installed on USB, uh oh. USB port is on bottom of bar. What the? After about 20 minutes of getting the raised and supported so I can plug in USB, won't update. Yeah, I know, I DID extract all files. Won't update. Call support again. Told them all I've done. Tell me to send in for repairs. Something wrong with unit. Really? Brand new! Out of the box! Need to send in for repair? Returned for refund. I'm done. Too bad! Sounded great. Just not reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review or support complaint I generally do not write reviews. This is only my second one in 40 years. I cannot really say this is a review of the HW-Q90R Samsung Harman Kardon 7.1.4ch Soundbar. I would like to but in the 7 months I’ve owned one it has been in for repairs 3 times. I did enjoy it the few times it was working but having it constantly out for repairs tarnishes even outstanding performance. Samsung may have produced a product of great potential but the apparent lack of quality control (or for that matter servicing what was not caught in quality control) is my reason for the low rating. Paying $1,400 for a unit you are not enjoying is frustrating. SAMSUNG; you let me down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding soundbar Great surround/spacious/dimensional sound. Easy to setup. Volume is great for the size of product. I have not had any problems with the wireless sub or satellites disconnecting. I have not used the bluetooth yet but I have used wireless, HDMI and optical and they worked as expected and in fact I am surprised by the wireless connection to the tv. Only improvement I can suggest but the ability to turn down the subwoofer even more for late night viewing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unreal for price & convenience Unreal for price & convenience First of all, I'm not a Samsung shill or biased fanboy. For example, I bought this for my 65" LG OLED C9. Second, I love great sound and don't mind investing reasonably to achieve the desired result. Third, I purchased the first THX certified pre-amp, amp, and speakers developed many years ago - at tremendous expense. I had to calibrate the system with multiple microphones, sound pressure meters, and even ran the exact same length silver 'rope' to all 5 speakers and the sub. That system was amazing and literally shook the plaster off portions of my walls. I spent countless hours sharing the system with family and friends who could not believe the experience. Yes, I'm alot older now and may have a less refined ear... and while this system had 10% of the power (@ 512 watts) of my first system, it does an amazing job. What took weeks and well over $10K (not including projector and screen), now costs an order of magnitude less and hour to install. Does the system deliver the same experience?... not exactly, but it is pretty darn amazing. And in fact, my first THX system did not have upward facing drivers... and this has 4!!!! Do they work?... without question. Are they as good as ceiling mounted?... of course not. I have had no connection issues (just as an aside). I believe the decision as to whether or not to purchase comes down to expectation. If you want full control and tuning over your sound... you should invest in discrete components and run wire. However, if you don't have the interest, time or money... which are all fair considerations... but you want a great surround experience, this Q90R can NOT be beat. Are there less (or more) expensive choices?... Yes... and none can compare - as of this writing. I have purchased many soundbars over the years and THIS Harmon-Kardon tuned 17-driver, 7.1.4, ATMOS beast (with a decent sub included) crushed all of them. By the way, even my fiance - who is generally not a fan of my obsession over technology - has actually enjoyed this system. So, I have no idea if this helped at all... but I hope if you're on fence, this offered some value. Congrats to Samsung for delivering the soundbar against all others will now be compared.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The sound Quality is great great soundbar and rear speakers that sound incredible. but for the price the subwoofer could have been at least 200 watts so that it can keep up with the system and/or have the capability to ad another sunwoofer. there is a 200 watt subwoofer sold seperately but it’s for older soundbars that dont even have the power like this soundbar has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No bass or power then the audio source isnt Dolby I bought this system one week ago and the sound is fantastic when the source is Dolby Digital, Digital+, Atmos, DTS and so on. But when the source isn't from Dolby, for example when streamin music from Spotify (with highest quality setting), the soundbar looses almost all its bass and "power". Its no where near the same quality and "power" as when the audio source is Dolby. I have the european version with the latest 1.0079 firmware. Samsung I hope you will fix this issue! Since it's a $1699 system it's resonable to expect outstanding audio quality even when listening to music and not a Dolby Digital soundtrack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TV + Soundbar Aren’t Synced I bought the q90r TV and q90 soundbar together and there is an annoying sound delay. I spoke to customer support twice, went through all the troubleshooting, and no resolution. I also tried the soundbar on a Sony TV and had the same problem. The sound on the Samsung q90r and my Sony work fine (no delay) without the soundbar. As soon as the soundbar is plugged in, DELAYS. This is a brand new purchase and both components were marketed as a seamless fit, but it is terrible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low frequency response (Bass) I have concluded that after many research and carefully reviewing the specifications Samsung Q90R is an ideal home theater system for a small to mid size room / hall. The sound clarity was clear and crisp. The only deal breaker is the low frequency response. The advancement from HW950 to Q90R in addressing this drawback seems negligible. I wish to propose to Samsung to consider packaging with SWA700 Subwoofer (pairing via Bluetooth adds latency) or even better allowing a RCA LFE output on the soundbar for more punch demanding customers with the option to purchase without the Subwoofer so that a serious Subwoofer that can deliver 20Hz range can be connected.

Hi guy , I just bought it for two days , I am very sure that my LG C9 OLED HDMI port earc can be connected to the Q90R Soundbar to output Dolby Atmos correctly by Netflix. , If the Q90R is able to use the SWA-W700/ZA Subwoofer, it will be even more perfect. !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I never write reviews... Ok so as the title says, I NEVER do this, however after reading all of the people bashing this sound bar I had to come back and write a review. I am ever so happy I watched YouTube reviews instead of listening to the people complaing on here.. Look I am going to be 100% transparent. I am a very avid sound guy. I enjoy absurdly loud stereo systems and set ups, but they MUST be clear, percise, and hit on all marks. Let me first state this system does EXACTLY that, but on such a level that I've never experienced before. My last truck had over 7,000 in audio equipment and would hit 146.6 dB (ie: a rock concert is 120 dB) That being said, allow me to review this system.. ONE WORD: Enthralling BREAKDOWN: Let me start by saying this system is nothing short of incredible. I was expecting greatness for one simple fact; Harman/Kardon and Samsung combined for this?!? Anyone that knows anything about sound knows the name "Harman/Kardon". This sound bar has hands down surpassed my expectations. PROS: +The sound REALLY engulfs you. It's utterly impressive. +I am running my Alienware laptop straight into the sound bar, and making the sound bar push the graphic signal to my TV. It is pushing 4k with zero issues (makes me wonder if it goes higher). +17 speakers in such a small compact design. +HIGH quality and time invested into making this bar. +The price is inferior for the level of performance recieved ++The preset sound settings already integrated into the system are some of the best I've ever heard to date! CONS: -Dobly Atmos takes a minute to set up on the system. (this is at no fault to Samsung) -The mounting bracket more than suffices, however if you were to mount the sound bar with even the slightest degree of angle, I would question the screws that go into the bottom of the sound bar itself, as they are pretty thin. -It comes with a cheap HDMI cable, don't waste your time with this, buy a real cable. -The subwoofer packs an incredible punch at low volume levels, it's a nice surprise really, however I would question it under more intense levels. (Note: this sub has shaken my couch and it is sitting on a concrete floor) -Finding an "under TV" sound bar mount that will support it weighing in at 19.4 lbs. PERSONAL NOTES: I have found that volume level 35 (system goes to 100), +3 Treble, -1 Bass makes for PLENTY OF SOUND. I have pushed the system to 50 once to see what it would do while I was playing a shooter game. Unbelievable period. I have placed the bar on 32 inch speaker stands making it at ear level. I will attach picture to reference my set up. FINAL THOUGHT: This is a sound bar that FAR surpassed and exceeded my expectations period. With it capable of pushing both Dobly Atmos and DTS X, it's future proof. It will quite possibly be the last sound bar you will need to buy for the next 10 years easily as both of these technologies are ground breaking and new. I sincerely hope this review helps you in your decision on this system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible product i was very sorry to waste a lot of money on this product. i could not even update the firmware after being on the phone with 3 different technicians. the sub woofer and side speakers never connected. i was told i needed to update the firmware. using the smartthings app, ubs thumbdrive and 2 hours with a techician on the phone i was told i had to mail in the soundbar. the r product was obviously a total failure - hence the newer za model. i was extremely disappointed with this product and lost a lot of money. ps - the instructions to sync with my tv never quite got a perfect match either - despite the fact that i bought the matching q90 model. i really did not want to choose 1 star but i had no choice because i could not add my comments without selecting at least 1 star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst soundbar ever!! i purchased this from magnolia at best buy. for 3 months, no issues but then it hit. sub cuts in and out, both the light at times and just total distortion and then came the rears. i finally had enough and samsung chat assist started with not so accurate advise, aka, my soundbar shouldnt have rear speakers. of course, this was wrong because it came in the box and this was the flagship speaker set from samsung. i have facotry reset, moved everything inches to the sound bar and the solution.... have to unplug and keep unplug (not use) the sub or rears. friends ask what in the world and when i explain this is the flagship, they are suprised. over 1k wasted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I see why they discontinued this this could have been the absolute best soundbar surround system on the market, if samsung would have done a better job on their side. sound quality when it works is fantastic. but! right out of the box the rear speakers started having issues, disconnecting and crackling sound. but after a firmware update this was partially fixed. now im left with one of the rear speakers only connecting when it feels like it and dropping signal constantly. wifi connecting is poor with this device. no google assistance?? just terrible

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Cinematic Experience, in the beginning. owned about 1 glorious year. nice sound clarity, hard hitting bass, full home theater audio. i loved this soundbar! .... until i got the 1012.6 firmware update. minus 1 star. ok, let's talk about that 1012.6 firmware update. 1. the front and rear speakers are more prominent than before. 2. a "hidden" feature was added to incorporate the rears for non atmos media playback, if you choose.good 3. you can now hear the the faintest ambient sounds, that you may have missed before in a movie/tv show. now here's the bad part of the 1012.6 firmware update remember that hard hitting subwoofer bass you use to have? it was replaced with hollow , no mids, no floor vibrating bass. the subwoofer now sounds like a cheap knockoff subwoofer. all the bass is gone !! sent in for diagnostics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Q90r sound bar on paper, the q90r sounder was everything i wanted. in reality, it was a 15 month long major disappointment. the 2 hdmi inputs never really worked properly in terms of audio, the sound bar would frequently disconnect from the tv ( also a samsung ), it would also fail to respond to volume inputs. the only remedy was to unplug and the plug it back in again. it even will not register as being online in the smart things app and cannot be restored. at this point, it has failed to work at all. for the $1500 i paid, this is so unfair to me as a consumer. any remedy on your part would be welcome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds great when it works I bought this system to go with my Q90R65" QLED TV, Thinking they would be a perfect match, I was wrong. The sound is great even playing music on it. My problem is is when you put the tv on dolby digital for the best sound through your bar it doesn't match the lips on the tv, it's delayed. I have all my syncs to 0, the furthest they will go down and they're still off. I call Samsung and they have no clue. They keep saying the sync goes into the negative numbers and it doesn't it goes to 0 and that's it. I've done hard resets and soft resets and nothing. Went and bought a $100 HDMI cable to replace the Samsung cable that came with it, still the same. As much money as you pay for this set up you should have no problems! Yes, I did download the new firmware as soon as I got it. I have owned Samsung products for years and been very happy with them. Now I don't know what to do when you can't use the product the way it was made to be used. Samsung needs to get people who know what they are talking about in the customer center and if it can't be resolved I will return it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Anyone who doesn't rate this a 4+ is crazy! Ok so any of the issues that caused anyone to leave a less than positive review of this soundbar have been cleared up with the latest firmware update (my firmware update came in the box!) Any other issues were clearly user error. It works correctly EVERYTIME but does require proper set up INCLUDING the order you literally plug the units in to the outlets. As for latency...None here with any source. Shop around because prices are all over the board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too many issues We took delivery of the Samsung q90r soundbar roughly 2 months ago. Set up was a brease and it worked right out the box. Rear speakers and subwoofer connected. The following day after it was powered off for one night the rear speakers and subwoofer would not connect. Did some research and found there was new firmware. Update the unit via WiFi and it worked! Amazing finally great sound just what I had envisioned. Wrong!!!!!! It only worked for 2-3 days after that watching content from Netflix via my Vizio p series the rear speakers and not to say the subwoofer sounded off. The subwoofer sounds like there’s a muffle sounds as if the subwoofer speaker is broken. The rear speakers crackle. Connectivity keeps cutting out . Sounds as if there’s too many static. Did the whole set up again unplugged everything for 5 min plug everything back in order as in the manual . Same thing too many bugs for the price of this unit. Not worth it. Unless you want to keep unplugging everything and plugging stuff back every day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HOLY GOD WOW Dear Samsung, just traded in my Q80 that did not have rear speakers for the Q90 which has 2 Super large rear speakers and they only need one cord to plug into an outlet. There is NO EXTRA REAR BOX like the old models have which is really nice to have just the REAR SPEAKERS ONLY. Less CLUTTER. I am impressed this rear speakers are seriously large and heavy very great quality workmanship. Samsung really went the extra mile on the rear speakers. Now I am watching my first Dolby Atmos movie so I may have to update my review until I hear the complete 7.1.4 movie called BABY DRIVER.& MAN OF STEEL which have DOLBY VISION & Dolby Atmos. So far the quality of the Q90 is at the top level. Very impressed over Q90 vs. my last $1299.99 Sound Bar Curved 65" 9.2 system. Samsung has learned how to correct their mistakes from past and create new exciting Sound bars. I will let everyone know my honest true thoughts on this 7.1.4 after my MOVIES. I have had the Q80 and the Dolby Atmos was seriously hitting off the ceiling and the walls the Q80 has no rear speakers. But I wanted the REAR SPEAKERS so I took back the Q80 and got the Q90. I suggest everyone if you want those REAR SPEAKERS that fire out and up wards you better splurge for the Q90. IT's the only SOUND BAR in the Q series that comes with the rear speakers. And the SUB WOOFER that Samsung offers DOES NOT WORK WITH ANY Q SERIES SOUND BARS. Already wasted a trip to the store and had to return that heavy large sub woofer that Samsung sells for $499.00. I am happy with HARMON/KARDON they really do a great job. I only wish they would have made a SUB WOOFER for this as an upgrade for those who really love the true sound of BASS that is just enough not to over powering. maybe they will come out with on in the future. SO FAR SO GOOD I will upload pics and a VIDEO to show what I am saying I am hearing. Hopefully within a few days. Thanks Samsung. Great Job on Q SERIES.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Q90R Sub and Woofer Disconnect Got the Q90r last month. Till now i have lost counts on ID resetting the sub and woofer. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Soundbar, Immersive & encompassing Sound I recently purchased this soundbar last month as I had been looking to upgrade my old 2.1 channel soundbar & get a new soundbar that supported Dolby Atmos & DTS-X. My current set up was a 2018 Samsung Q9-FN which is the best television that I have owned, & I have been nothing but happy with Samsung in the past so I preferred to stick with what would most likely be compatible with a Samsung TV. I had been doing my research on soundbars & was aware about some people saying that the HW-Q90R had some issues with connectivity with the rear speakers. I personally have had no issues with the soundbar. The set up was very simple & there was no issues. I was even able to update the soundbar with the latest firmware with the Samsung Smart Things app. I did some tests with the soundbar using my UBD-M9500, I tested out Godzilla 2014, the sound was amazing I felt so immersed into the action when Godzilla was battling the M.U.T.O.'s the whole room would shake & it was showing the the Sound output was in DTS-X. The other film tested was John Wick 4K, again audio was so excellent, the soundbar handled Dolby Atmos like a champ, I felt like I was in the club when John is chasing the guy that killed his dog, I look foward to re-experiencing Godzilla King of The Monsters in 4K the audio is going to be a spectacle. For my connections I have the Soundbar connected to the TV via HDMI ARC, with a PS4 Pro & a Samsung UBD-M9500 4K player running into the soundbar. I would recommend this sound bar to anyone who is looking to get a great home theater experience with a clean simple look, & get the most out of their Blu-rays & Games, while not having to get a receiver & multiple separate speakers. Overall: - Amazing Sound - Handles DTS-X & Dolby Atmos content like a champion - Content heard clearly with low volume in Adaptive Sound - Game Mode Sound was Great God of War (2018) never sounded more immersive & the combat shotgun in DOOM (2016) was extremely satisfying to hear. - Settings are simple & very accessible
