Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lot to like, but needs support. This is my 2nd wearable, as my previous was perhaps the first version and I felt that it was past time to upgrade. There’s a lot to like about this product-the slim look with nice size display, easy interchangeable bands, tracking more data than I really want and fantastic data collection and Garmin connect data displays. The only real problem I have was the same as before, the device is not very intuitive—difficult to find solutions if you cannot connect especially the GPS feature which is crucial for distance tracking and why I purchased Garmin over Fitbit! I inadvertently resolved my understanding of my GPS problem, but there are other connections I would like to use but haven’t yet been able to figure out—the manual is minimal, do it is not very helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adequate It does what I need it to do, excluding all day sync. The battery is a little inconsistent, but as long as I watch it, the charge remains manageable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Vivosmart I have had this new watch for about a month and i am super pleased with it. I mainly use it for steps, and to monitor my stress and sleep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what I want it to do. Very light. Easy to wear. Besides time, I got it to count steps and read my heart rate. It does that. I wish I could get a Velcro type band, but I know most people don’t want that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Vivosmart 4 is smarter Yesterday I set my Vivosmart 5 for a Walk and walked for 2 miles. When I got home I forgot to stop it. In fact, I only remembered it when I woke up this morning and it was STILL GOING after a full night's sleep! Now my Body Battery is 5. FIVE! My 1.4 mile walk took over 14 hours. My Vivosmart 4 would give me a gentle reminder that I should stop my "Walk" after I had been obviously done with my walk. Strange. Also, my Body Battery is super low ever since I got this one. This one doesn't seem to be registering all of the good sleep I get. The hours are correct (8-9 hours a night) but my stress levels are through the roof. I'm excited because my kids are visiting from out of town, but I'm not stressed. Just super happy. I can't imagine I should have a Body Battery of 5, but maybe it's me? I always had 100 after a good night's sleep with my Vivosmart 4.So I'm not as happy with this version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the Ultrex in most ways Had 3 minn kota trolling motors go bad in the past, each during the first year. Got tired of not being able to fish for months while being repaired. This last time my ultrex control board went bad and then water intrusion in the lower. Only 20 hrs on it! I bought a garmin force and installed it myself in about 2 hours. The ultrex ran 2.6 mph on full and the force runs 4.4 mph into a light headwind. There is a bit of lag when using the remote and the foot pedal has a much softer feel than the ultrex. The I pilot link works really well and follow the contour setting will be missed. The ultrex uses more battery than the force. I can fish 8 hours using the trolling motor heavily using a 36 volt 60 amp hour lithium battery and have 85 % capacity left. The ultrex left me with 30-35%. Overall, the garmin is much better than minn kota in my opinion. I have only used it 4 times and can't speak on durability as of yet. Very happy with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not extremely happy with it. The battery has to be charged at least by every third day. I usually never charge my health tracker but once a week. The battery drains extremely fast. I'm down to 10% usually by the end of day 2. The next things are that I do not believe it is reading accurately. The 0xygen saturation level seems to be way low. At night my readings are in the low 80s. My sleep scores are always pretty bad but now they are way worse. No matter what I do I cannot increase them, even taking a sleeping pill. I woke up feeling rested but my score was 74. The respiration seems accurate and so does the heart rate. Steps and intensity seem correct. Bottom line: it has to be charged often and readings to do with oxygen saturation and sleep scores seem to be way off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well Seems to work as advertised. I think the step counter and calories used maybe over stated, but the results are consistent, so that's most important to me. The distance traveled while walking is in the ballpark, to get the most accurate distance a custom stride length should be done. The only thing I would like available is being able to add naps to your sleep score. First week battery life was only about 4 days, but after doing some of the suggestions to maximize battery life, I've been able to get 7 days out of it. If you like to keep track of things you'll be happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small and compact The vivosmart 5 is great if you are looking for a step counter that monitors heart rate and has sleep tracking. I only use it for work, and I liked it because it fits under a medical glove. The on-screen text can be a little small, but if I want to look at trends, then I just sync my phone and look at it on Garmin Connect. If you are looking to use it for more than that such as tracking walking, running, cycling, etc., I recommend getting a watch that has built-in GPS. I have never used it for an activity that needed GPS, so I cannot vouch for the connected GPS feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some I like, but I am not happy that I have tap See the statement from the previous box to tap the face in order to see the time. It takes quite a long time to charge. I like the size and shape better than the one I had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tool for tracking progress I've had my Garmin for almost 30 days and it's nice to see how my body responds during my sleep and while I'm awake

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings Was trying to replace Vivosport. pros: Using the phone GPS works faster than Vivosport. Emergency response feature. Sleep score(I'm learning). I like the narrow face, easier for pulling up sleeves to see. cons: no smaller size(I turn and it comes away from my wrist). A lot of items I'm not interested in. (Pulse OX, Stress, Respiration). No altitude(stairs) makes it hard for altitude challenges. Charge is only lasting 2 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great activity & Life tracker I bought my first Garmin Vivosmart 5 about 3 months ago to replace a Vivofit that I managed to drown. It was awesome. Unfortunately I didn't take it off when in the water at a surf beach and the tracker came out of the wrist band when I was dumped by a big wave. I have just bought a replacement and will remember to take it off next time I'm at a surf beach! It has all the functions I need without a whole lot I'd never use and is slim line on my wrist, which I prefer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far, So Great! I've had the Vivosmart 5 for less than a month. A few things I wanted in a fitness tracker included good battery life, a bright and informative display, and decent customization. This tracker meets all of the above, and then some. I love that it's not too big and bulky and has all my stats where I can easily see them. The app seems great so far, as well. I almost forgot. Something weird happened yesterday morning. When the morning alarm went off, I couldn't get the watch to stop buzzing. I had things to do so it was over an hour before I could sit down and focus on the watch. I powered it off and back on again, and the buzzing stopped. All is fine now. I'm not sure why this happened but I would love to know. Hope it doesn't happen again! That's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wanted a simple fitness watch - got so much more! Purchased several weeks ago to replace another brand that had died. Wanted something small and didn't need a complicated watch. This gives me what I want but more. I wish that the weather report didn't descend over the time so quickly because it takes me a bit to focus early am. But all stats seem to be true to form and I'm learning more from all your reports. I am very happy with the watch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin *Love It* I recently had a Cardioversion due to atrial fibrillation. My daughters is in the Medical field, and she strongly suggested I purchase the Garmin monitor especially for Heart Rate monitoring and the Plus Ox. It does an great job of monitoring my heart-rate. All the other features are bonuses..... I wear it at bad-time and the Garmin does a excellent job in recording my Sleep habits (funny it doesn't monitor NAPS).

Date published: 2023-10-17T00:00:00-04:00
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meh I've had this for a little over a month and sadly find the heart rate monitor either malfunctioning or not always responding. This is primarily why I purchased it: to monitor my heart rate during various activities that I now need to stop as I fiddle and fumble with trying to get the readout to show. The teeny tiny constant readout is useless unless you are sitting quietly at a desk. So not ideal. And I am trying to contact some at Garmin to see if there's something I or they can do, to no avail so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's what I was looking for I wanted something small, simple and easy to use. I essentially didn't want a small boulder attached to my wrist. This is easy to use and great if you want to wear something every day and not notice it's there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Features! My old Forerunner 35 base broke off the band when I was throwing a ball to my granddaughter. Totally unfixable. I liked the features of a Garmin so I saw the Vivosmart 5 with the unit totally encased in the band. I like being able to see steps, time, heartbeat and charge on the screen at the same time. I like the way it tracks sleep and other things that I don’t use but it’s nice they are available. The weekly summary report is much more detailed than the previous ones. Charge holds longer also and charges quicker. Very pleased so far!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An upgrade I've had it for about a month, the battery life is exceptional, the screen is sharp, and it's light weight. The watch itself is extremely light weight and sometimes forget I'm wearing it. I like that they put a new charging interface, it's definitely better than what the 3 and 4 had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid tracker, excellent value Used polar and whoop for years before this, similar data and very comfortable. Only thing is I wish it could measure HRV. Two Minor issue I have had, one being batter life seems shorter than advertised. About 3/4 days vs 7. Have also ran into an issue just a few times where I will start an activity and the clock never starts, button doesn’t work and the watch is frozen. A manual power down overrides this and it has been fine to restart after.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Average for what I need from a smartwatch I've had it about a month. It doesn't sync well. Sometimes it will sync and not show everything then when you sync again it gets it. Sometimes it shows I went to sleep later than I actually did. If I get up earlier than usual it doesn't show sleep until around the time I normally get up. It doesn't do stair well at all. I go up and down stairs multiple times a day but it only shows me going up and down once a day on average and 5 total in the month I've had it. Last 7days 4 are 0 a couple are 1 and one is 3 floors. It's not even close. The band is very uncomfortable. If it is tight enough to not slide around on my wrist it itches and leaves marks. If it's loose it doesn't get good readings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Many Changes This is my second Garmin vivosmart. I got my first one in 2019, and I was surprised by the number of differences between the two versions. Though it took me a week to adjust to the changes, I can now say that I am convinced that all the updates are improvements. It is certainly easier to charge this model. I also switched to the large size, and the bigger face makes it easier to read without my glasses.

These units are clear and very easy to find tune the live scope! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great screen but missing a couple features I moved to the vivosmart 5 from a Fitbit Inspire 2. I like the Fitbit's smaller size but prefer the overall Garmin ecosystem. The vivosmart 5 works well and has a razor sharp screen. It has 2 gaps: 1) No barometric altimeter to capture flights of stairs and no HRV overnight. I am an athlete and this is my 24/7 device when I am not using a dedicated fitness watch or bike computer. The vivosmart 5 measures HRV during the day, so I was surprised that it is not capturing overnight readings like my other Garmin products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fatal flaw outweighs performance Regardless of any spec performance, I would advise AGAINST buying this. This was (*was*) a pretty good watch. Not super different from the 4 other than optics. At that, the watchface options aren't great, they're all really busy and you can't inidivually chose what kind of info you want displayed (eg I prefer 12 hr time, day, and date). One of the only changes was a slight upgrade to the sleep tracking functions, yet still no nap tracking OR smart wake up/alarm, despite both being long requested. These are both features on devices such as Fitbits (and a big reason I may switch). Biggest issue is that the replaceable band features NO locking mechanism. Nothing snaps or clicks into place, there are no springs or locks or ANYTHING to keep the watchface in place. It's an unbelievably glaring oversight, especially from a brand like Garmin which typically makes good products. I had the face spontaneously pop out several times, until one day I finished my ride home and found JUST the band on. If anyone needs a replacement band, though, let me know!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too easy to lose, no security on watch or band My first Garmin watch came off without notice and this my 2nd one & the band and watch is easy to come out without notice. Garmin should replace free of charge due to manufacturer defects on the band and watch. This is not good business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much nicer than expected I’ve had a Vivosmart 4 for 3 years and loved it. I was afraid the Vivosmart 5 would be too large for me but it’s fine. Much easier to read and I like the morning report it gives me. I loved the rose gold around my Vivosmart 4 and I do wish they had a band like that to dress it up a little. The sleep monitor is more detailed also and respiration. Overall I like it very much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, Sleek & Effective! I had the Vivosmart 4 and upgraded to the 5. The face is a bit bigger, and has a few more options that work well for me. I do not like the bigger/bulkier watched. This is perfect for what I was looking for. The battery lasts a few days as well!

I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for both a first time watch that keeps track of all you health needs as well as GPS for those nice walks or runs, even your local races.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for. Working with the Garmin Connect app, it does not track mileage correctly at all. The heart rate monitor lags and take a bit of time to catch up which makes it hard for zone 2 training. I can only assume that the more expensive ones actually work. I would not recommend this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best feeling watch ever This replaced an Apple Watch and I couldn’t be happier. It has all the features I actually use and lets me know when I get text or calls. But also tracks my health stats and I can follow along on the garmin app. Which I also use for my Mtn biking. But the best feature of all is that I barely notice that I am wearing a watch. It’s not bulky or heavy and I don’t hit it on thing’s constantly when I am working with my hands or working out. Very happy with this watch

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost Great This product has all the metrics I want, the form factor, the durability, I LOVE IT. BUT, it does not have enough activity profiles. I don't see why cardio, climbing and paddleboarding could not be added, that would make this a perfect tracker. I personally think a large number of people want these smaller slimmer trackers with those kinds of abilities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from POOR DESIGN. Need glasses to read small print I can read the time (if it isn't covered by some other unwanted pop-up) without glasses, but all the unwanted fine print under is annoying. I was hoping that I could customize what showed up on the new larger face with just time date and heart rate and battery level. If I want to know the temperature or the number of steps I'll get my glasses. Sometimes, it wants to give me info and I can't get it back to the simple time screen. I click the button... nothing seems to happen. Scrolling left, right, up and down who knows what will happen, but rarely what I want. I'm willing to take the time to set it up, and I finally figured out how to turn off notifications that were ALL automatically turned on. I also have Vivosmart 4 and was expecting this newer version to be better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product I have been using a Garmin Vivosmart HR+ for 5 years. it has taken a beating without failing but has fallen behind on features, accuracy and battery life. My new Vivosmart 5 is smaller, lighter, excellent battery life, better strap fitting and numerous additional features. I am uncomfortable with standard sport watch wrist units. I use the Vivismart 5 primarily for cycling/walking heartrate. The only feature missing is built in GPS. I usually carry my cell with me if only for safety but now I have no choice. It is a minor inconvenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's perfect for my needs. This is absolutely perfect for my needs. It's reliable and accurate (except for the weather). I don't need a plethora of features and this has everything I wanted. The only downside is that the battery needs recharging every two or three days. Frequent recharging means that the product will have a relatively shorter life. However, it also recharges very quickly so has minimal down time. Also, I wish the bands came in different colors too. Overall, I'm VERY happy with my vivosmart 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not very impressed I am disappointed with my new Garmin vivosmart 5. It’s bulky and I prefer a thinner band. I loved my vivosmart 4, had it over 4 years but the band broke. The battery life does not last, it needs to be charged after 3 days or less. The prior model lasted longer. I don’t even think the data is accurate. I’ve seen the same comment in other reviews. For example my sleep always shows poor even when I sleep long hours and wake up rested. I wish I can return it and another vivosmart 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Its Job I've been wearing the Vivosmart 5 for over a year and overall I am happy with the data I receive from it such as steps, sleep score and sleep stages as well as SPO2 - so It does it's job. Therefore, I am happy with the results. The only trouble is, the band and the way the device is held inside the band. On several occasions the "brains" fall out of the band and on many occasions I was lucky to find the device lying on the floor of a restaurant or somewhere even more inconvenient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Informative fitness tracker This fitness tracker gives you the basics such as steps, distance and pulse rate, but also has more sophisticated features such as body battery (energy levels based on heart beat data), stress levels, sleep information, weather and O2 saturation (which the app advises is battery consuming). All these features ('widgets') can be turned on or off via the app, although Weather is persistent. The iPhone app is very informative, with details of the history of data collected, in my case since I started using the app, several Garmin devices earlier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Beginner Fintess Tracker The Vivosmart 5 is an excellent addition to my healthy lifestyle. I have every feature I need to take my health to the next level. The navigation of the fitness tracker and the Garmin App is easy and it did not take more than just a few hours to become comfortable with the interface of both. The battery life is short - at the most, I may get three days before having to charge the tracker. Additionally, it would be nice to name the alarms that can be set in the Garmin App. My favorite features are the body battery, stress monitor, and sleep score.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the competence for sure. I got this one because I used to have a different brand sensor and it didn't even connected to my phone the day I was ran over by a car. later I had to look for options to replace it and one of the things I had as a requisite was for the gadget to be able to call my wife if something happened to me and I wasn't able to do it again. The vivosmart does that, I haven't tested the accident call yet but at least it records where I am, sends a mail when I start my route and refreshes the global position every 2 minutes. Is slimmer than the path most fitness gadgets are going and that's a plus for me since I love to wear my different watches too. The screen doesn't wake me up due excesive brightness and it's very minimal, that's also a plus. The band is also slim enough to fit a "dog tag" with my emergency contacts. I have recorded on the gym, pool, bike and walks with no issues and will be glad to never test the accident call but I'm glad that it is there as a relief for my family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from heart rate not accurate during workout I've had Vivosmart 4 for over 4 years. I expected Vivosmart 5 to be better but heart rate during workout is cnsistently 30-60 bpm low. Wearing the Vivosmart 4 and Vivosmart 5 side by side the 4 reads accurately and the 5 way. About half the time the Vivosmart 5 will suddenly read accurately after 30 to 40 minutes into the workout. Garmin support no help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit for purpose but some things are lacking... I have a Fenix 7s sapphire solar as my main Garmin device. However, I also love mechanical watches. I wanted to buy this as a way to maintain my health data while wearing my mechanical watches. However, given how clunky the compatibility features across Garmin devices, I cannot necessarily rely on the metrics measured by this device. For example, different body battery readings, lack of training readiness score, etc. Hopefully this will be fixed (via the updated "primary training device"), otherwise this is a useless purchase for what I was trying to accomplish...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice but not awesome I got this as a Christmas present. I like it, I've been wearing it every day for about a month. I like the battery life, about 3 days with all sensors ON all the time, it is lightweight and good looking. I don't like that you can't start sleeping manually, the watch does it by itself, I would have loved it if it came with GPS and more face options. I'm not sure if I would buy it again, but as a present it was genuinely nice. Also, I would have loved it if it were a little smaller, even though I'm a guy with big arms who is used to having big watches (I used to wear a Fenix 5x everyday) and it feels big.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product, poor interface and support I bought this to track swimming. It works for that. Mostly. When something doesn't work and you try to get help, You get definitions in the manual, not operational guidance. The best way to get help is on the internet. You can do better, Garmin. The phone connected/ disconnected notification is SUPER annoying and a useless battery waster. Multiple attempts to find a way to shut it off have been unsuccessful. There must be a way, because it didn't work that way when I first got it. I. Summary, it has many good and helpful features, but the poor manual and sometimes non-intuitive interface degrades it's usefulness.

The larger screen, then the customizable widgets and displays are nice. I can on several screens see at a glance, what my numbers were from the night before (on the sunrise or wake-up information) to the present displays of my health stats. I also like that some of the additional features like your sleep score are now displayed and explained on Garmin Connect. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buggy I've had this for a year. The button on the front is a design flaw. I tend to wear it face down and when on a computer it presses against the desk and all kinds of weird things happen. The emergency contact isn't workable. It has constant false alarms. Sometimes it stops responding and has to be restarted and all the data not synched gets lost. Sometimes it misses half a night of sleep. After a year the battery is starting to drain overnight so it seems to be reaching the end of it's life. I have another brand watch that lasted longer the company that made it, 5-6 years. Same price range. The app is nice. If the watch didn't have so many issues it would nice too. It's just too buggy which just makes it annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love vivosmart 4 Well I'm not really happy compared to my video my vivosmart 4. Cons: It only has a battery life of 2 days not 7, I can't go from my living room to my kitchen without it telling me that it's disconnected from my phone and continuing to beep me every 5 Seconds, there is not a face for the watch that has the things on it that 4 did (date time and weather). Also the last 12 days I cannot seem to be able to get my sleep pattern, my pulse ox, or my respirations which is one of the things that I wanted because of my heart. I have done everything to get this missing information from wearing extra things on my wrist to keep it up where my pulses but it's just not working. Pros: I do like that I can answer Facebook or email from my watch with programmed messages. Truthfully I wish that I could get another 4 or a battery put in my 4. It truly was the right watch for me. To say that I'm satisfied would be a lie but I don't think there's much I can do about it now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed I'm disappointed in my vivosmart 5. I miss the stairs climbed feature of my old vivosmart 3. I find the sleep score inaccurate. It often says I didn't fall asleep for an hour to an hour and a half after I've actually been asleep as verified by my wife. This morning I got up at 6am and moved around the kitchen starting the oven and prepared coffee, then sat down to read my email. My watch says I was in deep sleep from 7am until 8:18. I find the body battery feature useless. It is useless information.

Really like the synchronization with the Garmin Connect app and the dashboard there. My only real complaint is the battery life and it requires charging every 3 days or so. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing This is the second Garmin device I have owned and the second device that doesn't live up to the hype in their advertising. Vivosmart5 is terrible at sleep and activity tracking which are 2 of the three most important features to me. Sleep tracking works maybe 1/3 of the time. Activity tracking is completely useless. Data is not collected most of the time. Or the device just makes up activities. For instance, I just woke up 15 minutes ago, however, my watch is tracking an activity that started 38 minutes ago. It thinks I have already walked 1.27 miles. The software is very bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall a great device I bought the Garmin VivoSmart5 to replace my VivoSmart4 when my batteries would no longer recharge. I prefer the smaller fit of the 4 but I do like that the display screen is slightly larger with this model. I feel like the sensors on the 5 don’t quite line up with the data that my 4 had. My sleep data seems to be calculated totally differently and my daily battery drain doesn’t seem to be able to recharge no matter what I’ve done to improve my restful moments during the day. I do like that the watch band is replaceable and that the charging mechanism is much easier to connect and it connects well compared to previous models (I owned the 3 and the 4). Still love that it’s waterproof and I don’t have to worry about day to day activities. Overall pleased with its performance (other than the sleep and battery drain calculations).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving Vivosmart 5 except 1 thing… I love my Vivosmart 5. I like the small size and ease of use. Customer service was great when I needed assistance understanding operations of the watch. My one complaint is that it appears it will only pair with MyFitnessPal to count calories. I have tried MyFitnessPal for a week and am not impressed. Plus they are expensive if you sign up for the Premium service. I would prefer to link to MyNetDiary. It is an easier calorie counting platform and provides more services for its free version. And the Premium service is less expensive. On a side note, I would love a beige or khaki version of the wristband.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poorly designed I love Garmin products and services but this one missed by a mile. People do not buy this product for the time, there are tens of thousands of watches that do that. This watch is very limited in its customization and the information is too small to see while working out. The battery life of two days is useless, one third of the other Garmin fitness watches I have owned. I was very disappointed and within a week I ordered a Vivofit 4. Maybe that’s Garmin marketing plan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big features in a small watch! I had purchased a different brand which was much too big for my tiny wrist… In fact, it looked like a man’s watch. My Garmin fits perfectly with Notches left over. I really like knowing how many steps I have taken in a day, and the fact that it notifies me when my phone has received a message. Also, I love the mint green band!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the GPS tracking I bought this a month ago to replace my Vivofit 4. I wasn't really interested in a 'smart' tracker but I saw the reviews and thought why not. So glad I bought it. I really like the GPS tracking for running and cycling. And it's much easier to use than my Vivofit 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice whatever it is! This my first Vivo item, but I own several Garmin GPS products for my car, RV, and for hiking & geocaching. I've always been impressed with the quality and with the helpfulness of customer service and support. Back when I was "old school" which is not that long ago...and was using a flip phone and a blah watch...I also had a pedometer to count my steps. Well, I've upgraded slightly to a smart phone, but still like a watch on my wrist. (Again, old school there.) I had a trusty Timex that was rugged and simple...but I swear I couldn't keep the date on the right date. So I decided to take a big plunge and buy this Vivosmart 5. I am slowly learning to use it. I mean, really...all I wanted was the time, the date, and my step count...but this gives me way more than that. I'm going to have to spend some time figuring it out and deciding just what info is important to me. In the meantime, I'm very pleased. It's lightweight, unobtrusive (compared to my huge Timex), has great battery life, and knows the time and date based on synching with my phone (I suppose). And, it also keeps track of my steps. And eventually, it will do so much more. For me, great purchase. Worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good device I was ready for an update to my Vivofit. I bought my first one in August of 2014 and have upgraded twice. It's been a very reliable device and I enjoy the new features when I get a new device. My eyes are a lot older now and the digits are a little smaller, but I am doing okay with that. I'm not as happy with the charging capacity as it seems I have to plug it in every other day. My original had a regular battery which I missed when I had to upgrade. My Vivosmart 3 and 4 seemed to hold a charge longer than the new one. I am still a fan and advertise the company to all my friends who are in need of a fitness tracker. Keep up the good work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice device I am 75 yrs young and tech savy with the computer, but not smart phone. It was a struggle to find a wearable fitness tracker that did not require a smart phone for set up and operation. This one was supposed to set up on my MacBook Pro laptop. Well, it did...but not completely. I had to get a friend with a smart phone to help me finish the set up. Now I can charge it and sync with the laptop, but it still looks for my friend's phone even though I set up an account on Garman Connect on my laptop. I love the watch (cool mint color is great) and am pleased in general. It tracks my basics (steps, heart rate, sleep, etc.) I didn't expect it to track miles without GPS (on phone), but wish it could do more in sync with my laptop. Hence the 4 instead of 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall, good! I purchased this to replace my FitBit. I am happy with the product for the most part, however, the GPS often loses connection with my phone even though my phone is on me. Therefore, it does not track/map my activities very well. I also which there were more options for activities. I was shocked that hiking is a programmed option.

I wish there was more features, such as customizing the display, changing the way notifications display etc...Also I am not a fan of the band. The buckle hinge bites in to my wrist when I wear it snugly and is very uncomfortable. If I wear it loosley I think my readings are more suspect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features. Works well. Quite uncomfortable. I’ve been wearing this consistently, day and night, for about a month now. The data and analysis are great. But it’s really quite uncomfortable, particularly to sleep in. The band is stiff—they should have different, maybe elastic, bands. And since it sits up high, it is uncomfortable to sleep with. Garmin needs a super low profile, comfortable wearable. Don’t bother with display; it’s too small anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I have been a Vivosmart user since the first version came out, and have enjoyed each of the versions. Recently upgraded to the vivosmart5, and love it! The display is easier to read (although could be brighter in bright sunlight), and I love the additional watch faces that are available. I also like the new layout of other fitness options, and the ability to use different watch bands is way cool. Battery life seems to be about the same as the vivosmart4, but I do also get a lot of notifications so that may be reducing it a bit.

I did have a Whoop previously and was searching around as I did not want to continue with monthly payments. I looked into the features on the vivosmart5 and thought I have nothing to lose with trying it out with the one time payment insread of monthy payments with Whoop. Could not be happier with the choice I made. My favorite thing about the watch is the challenges. It really helps me hold myself accountable and pushes me to do a little more each day/week/month. It provides me with the information I need on daily basis and happy with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent overall I find my watch most useful in tracking my daily movement, and I like the reminders to get up and move. But I really question the accuracy sometimes. For example, it will tell me I'm "stressed" when I actually feel very calm. And the sleep tracking is problematic. It consistently gives me low scores and tells me I get very little deep sleep. While I do wake up at night, I usually end up with enough sleep and mostly feel good the next day. So I wonder if the stats could be right. I may stop wearing it at night. Other than that, I especially like the feature that allows me to turn the Bluetooth on and off, which is why I bought this watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but... I bought this and one for my wife to replace very old/no longer reliable Samsung Gear Fit 2s. While they are improved over what we had, they're a bit disappointing when it comes to the primary reason we use fitness trackers: sleep tracking. All of the waking functions are greatly improved over what our old trackers did. Heart rate, steps, pulse ox, respiration etc work very well. The app had a bit of a learning curve but now is familiar and easy to use. With that said, the sleep tracking function is hilariously bad. For example, yesterday, it says I slept for 33 hrs and 27 minutes. Today, is 56 hrs and 41 minutes. Clearly, those times are not possible. I've been in contact with Garmin support and followed their recommendations for correcting this issue when it first appeared within a week of getting the device. It was working fine until the last few days but has gone back to displaying impossible sleep times. I'm not sure if it's a basic problem with how the software defines and then displays sleep or if I'm using it in a way that it wasn't designed for. Either way, the main purpose I bought it for has not worked out well for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love all that it Offers, hate the button Great fit and works very well. Since the screen and touch screen, I find the button to be annoying. Rated 5 out of 5 by from battery life not anywhere near as long as wanted Overall, I am pleased with the performance. Battery life has not been anywhere near to seven days. Four and a half days is the best I have accomplished. I am only two weeks in, so there is room for fine tuning. I have tried time and again to remove the "weather" widget and other connections to the smartphone that I don't want. It shows up anyway and it is always out of date. The touch screen is a bit improvement over the vivofit 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful but not entirely practical I love my vivosmart for tracking my steps and monitoring my heart rate during workouts especially cardio. What I find impractical is the tracking of my exercise! It's great for counting my steps and distance while walking, but who wants to stop between each pose of a yoga class to press a button on their watch? What about during a HIIT workout?!?! That's absolutely bonkers to me; I don't want to take focus off what's happening in my body to press a button on my watch in order for my activity to properly be tracked, so a 90 minute yoga class comes out as 1 pose, or my strength training gets logged as cardio because it's the only type of exercise that I can log without having to press that button over and over again. Super annoying. Anywho, I mainly got the watch to track my steps and my heart rate, and it works for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice, discreet little activity monitor. I bought this so that I could wear it on my right wrist when I wear my mechanical watches on my left wrist. Surprisingly powerful with nearly as many features as my Instinct 2, it's the perfect way to keep track of 95% of my stats when I need to dress up a bit more. I did order the green version, however the black version arrived. Not a big deal. The band is hilariously short; I have 7.25" wrists, and I only have about 3/4" of band left when adjusted properly. Any wrists larger than mine would be well-suited to the "large" size band instead. The display is easily readable, although not nearly as readable as the display on my Instinct 2. It's baffling to me that Garmin does not let you set a "watch face" that does away with the actual clock/date; I would be far happier if I could configure it to only show a selection of other data (heart rate, weather, & steps, for example). All in all, it's a good product and does what it says it does very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Watch faces are too ugly Sorry I’m very sensitive with the design and just easily being annoyed by not beautiful things. The watch faces are a bit of a letdown, not even as good as vivosmart 4. Why there is ‘Garmin’ on the watch face? And why the design is not elegant at all. I hope they could be redesigned by some other better designer. It would be better that I could see directly on watch face 2 or 3 real-time numbers like heart rate and body battery together with the time/date. Also the button is a bit hard to press.

The only drawback I have found is that when tracking my walks or hike sometime it takes a while for the GPS to find the locations, causing the distance to be a little off sometime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not My Favorite I do not like this watch. The battery is very weak, not even a week worth of charge and every time I charge it, it resets my watch and I have to change the time again. I’m actually in the process of seeing if I can return it because I’m not happy with it. You are supposed to be able to turn your wrist and the watch lights up with your info, but this doesn’t work a lot of the time. The only good thing about this watch is the wristband is more secure. I much prefer the vivosmart 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but battery and connection distance are short I bought this mid December. My home is small, and the bluetooth connection doesn't even work through the whole house. The battery definitely doesn't last a full week. Sometimes it lasts longer, and sometimes it's really short - like only a couple days. This is without doing any actual workouts. I love all the other aspects of it, and I'm still learning about all the capabilities. The size is perfect as I need the narrow design for wrist movement in general and with my work. I previously loved the Vivosmart HR for 7 years. However, something definitely doesn't seem right with the short distance and battery problems. (I'm currently looking into my warranty to address these issues).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comprehensive tracking together with the app I use vivosmart though I wear Apple Watch as well. This is a replacement from vivosmart 4. All the benefits stay the same from 4 for my use with good activity and sleep tracking, and great app. Bigger size was not a draw back as I thought, but wider wrist band provides more comfort. Garmin sleep tracking provides better sleep analysis than Apple Watch apps. Very happy with the purchase and recommend highly even to Apple Watch users.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forward Progress! Bigger all around then the VivoSmart 4. The connector is the same as the MUCH more rugged Garmin Fenix watches; a much better option for on-the-go use. Similar non-replaceable wristband but different material and wider (hopefully this will bring more longevity compared to narrower VivoSmart4 band). Display is bigger, thus easier to read without rotating 90 degrees. Sleep data is not available until AFTER "getting up for the day" (No nighttime peeking to see how things have progressed). I have been a Garmin user since the early AA battery days, every generation is a significant improvement from the previous; this 4-to-5 version update is no exception.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch for the price! I have had numerous Vivo number watches from Garmin. The support staff has guided me for years on upgrading. I am now using a Vivosmart 5. I see a lot of fancy large-faced watches, but I know they spent a lot of money on them. The Vivosmart 5 is slim and all I need to have simple basic functions. The best part is notifications that I have a have an incoming phone call or test. I will repeat, "Great watch for the price."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin User for 20+ years! Don't like the Vivosmart5 - just like I didn't like the Vivosmart4 I replaced it with. For me, the screen is till difficult to read even being larger than the 4 iteration. It's also a data hog as the 4 was. Without the ability to logoff the app & cut the data stream to Garmin's app cloud my data use is quadruple what it normally is. I use a Fitbit device comparable to the Vivosmart line & prefer it to the Garmin Vivosmart5. Having said that, my primary exercise smart whatch is still my Garmin Forerunner 75. It's a superb product I plan to upgrade by the end of Summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love The Upgrades. I am excited about most of the upgrades on the Vivosmart 5. I love that we now have a button to get into the second-level menu or go back to the home screen. It has a nice sleek look. It is a little narrower than the other brands. At first, I disliked reading the scrolling text but after a week I adjusted and it no longer bothers me. So I think the new narrow design is a plus. It holds a charge much better than the other brands that have had in the past I only have to charge it once a week now instead of the beginning and end of the week. And I use the nighttime SPo2 feature. I love the pulse ox. I've seen a lot of reviewers complain about it. Unfortunately, all of the reviews I watched or read about only used the Garmin for two or three days, and at most, a few used it for a week. This is not enough time. First, I tested the pulse ox feature against a finger pulse ox monitor. The Garmin is typically read 2% below the finger pulse ox. On a separate occasion when I was cold, it read 4% below the finger pulse ox. It shouldn't be a surprise that a wrist-based pulse Ox doesn't match the doctor's office device. However, it's within an acceptable range for me to use it. Especially, when I see I dropped down to 73 a couple of times during the night. One of the things to note is that you do need to wear this snug to the wrist for the HR and the Pulse Ox to work ideally. When they showed it, many of the reviewers were not wearing it snugly. I can still fit my index finger between my band and wrist so it isn't tight. Another sore point in most reviews is the overnight SPo2 monitoring. This frustrated me for the first week as it had many reviewers. But after that, it worked consistently. I learned that it only runs for about the middle 4 hours of your sleep time. Now, if you are a restless sleeper and move around a lot or get up, you will stop reading. For it to take your Pulse Ox your wrist needs to be straight. If you bend it, it will stop reading. If you make a fast move, it will stop, if you get up, it will stop. But, once you settle, the Vivosmart will start back up again. If your band is loose enough to slide around, you will not get a consistent pulse ox at night Especially if you move around. I also tested the Heart rate feature at the doctor's office and it was always dead on. Not once has it strayed from the doctor's reading. I tested both the pulse ox and the HR at five different doctor's offices. So I am fairly confident in the Garmin Pulse Ox and Heart Rate readings. But again, it needs to be snug to your wrist to achieve an accurate reading. When it is loose, it can be off. I did have to work a little to get my custom step size just right before it would take an accurate read of the distance I traveled and the number of steps I've taken during the day. For those who want to put it on and not worry about it, you may or may not have an accurate measure of how far you've walked/run or the number of steps you've taken. I do feel my Vivosmart 3 was a little better there. I'm not sure if it's specific to my band or why it is. But I did get it to work perfectly through the custom step and matching it to a handheld GPS to confirm the distance. The Body Battery is an interesting and unique feature. This one needed time to learn from me. It took a couple of weeks for this one to mesh with my life and activities. Once it did, I found that it has been useful to make decisions on working out or not. At one point I couldn't figure out why my reading was 44 because I felt great. Well, the next day I was sick. If I had looked at the HRV and pulse ox during the day (you have to manually ask it to take the pulse ox), I would have realized I was getting sick and could have adapted my activities for the day. I certainly don't use the body battery often but find it useful. For those who like to auto-count workouts, I've enjoyed that feature quite a bit. I don't run, but I love to walk and I swim, which is why I decided on the Garmin Vivosmart 3, it was waterproof. It misses a stroke or a rep here or there but it hasn't been very often. And if you do find it missed something, you can certainly add it to the App. Yes, it is waterproof. I use it in the pool all the time and don't worry about it in the shower. Garmin says the Vivosmart is waterproof up to 50 meters. And yes, it is! I don't normally scuba dive with it on. During the last trip, I forgot to take it off before climbing into my gear. My husband was about to head below deck so I handed it to tuck it away in our bags. He dropped in his shorts pocket and well, yes, he forgot. So, this wonderful little band survived a thirty-minute, 40-meter dive. It's not a dive computer and I probably won't wear it diving again because I can only handle so many wrist-based devices but I certainly won't be worried if I forget it again. So, whether you want it for the gym, running/walking, swimming, snorkeling, take it scuba diving, or tracking sleep, this little wearable is an excellent choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basic tracker I use a Fenix 7 daily and bought this to use for active sports when I don't want to wear a watch. It seems fine at tracking heart rate (I can't speak to its accuracy), but the data it tracks are more basic than I expected and it seems like Garmin doesn't allow a secondary device to provide 02 data. It would be great if Garmin made a basic wearable that could provide more detailed data for when you didn't want to wear a large watch for sports. To the extent this is a limitation of Garmin's TrueUp synchronization as opposed to the device, hopefully that will improve in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not work correctly!!!! I have been a lifelong buyer of Garmin products. I bought a Vivosmart 5 one month ago. It is supposed to update my step goal automatically. From day one it has been stuck on 7670 steps. Never changes no matter what I do. I have spoken to 4 service Garmin people. They have had me send in extensive data. But have offered no help. The unit is definitely damaged. They have offered no help in the 2 weeks I have been in contact with them. I paid the money. The unit should work. If I am not helped with this I will never buy another Garmin product again. Beware of getting help from their support.

However I really wish garmin came out with different straps for this watch in terms of material, like maybe steel or nylon? As it has given me a really painful rash that almost looks like a burn? I wanted all my performance trackers to be inside Garmin's platform, so I decided to try the vivosmart 5. After 5 weeks of use, I can vouch for it, as a comfortable wearable for this use. Garmin Connect may be a bit confusing and tricky to use when you have several trackers, but it's good to have all my data in one place 5 stars for vivosmart 5 3 stars for Garmin Connect (Garmin, please give it some love)

It interfaces well with the app however, I can't verify the accuracy for the data such as steps and heart rate. The data differs from 2 other trackers that I used at the same time during a workout. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Missing Toe-to-Toe :( I got this to replace a Vivosmart 4 which had a knackered screen. I like wearing my analogue watches so I want a discreet activity monitor that tracks heart rate and sleep, that I can wear as well as a watch. I chose a Garmin one because I have a Forerunner on my connect app already, and I enjoyed doing Toe-to-Toe with my kids. Things I like better than the Vivosmart 4 so far: The screen display quality is markedly better. Women’s health app Hydration monitor Things I prefer about the Vivosmart 4: I liked the slim design, I didn’t mind the small screen because I use my phone to look at my metrics. The Vivosmart 5 doesn’t have Toe-to-Toe!!! Please Garmin, can you update it so I can play against my kids again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but bugs I am a current Garmin owner of several devices including Descent MK2i and many previous devices. I bought this as a slim device to wear on the opposite wrist, while wearing my favorite wrist watch on the other. As always with Garmin devices, there are bugs that detract from what could be greatness. First, while setting wrist gesture activation to off, the device will wake up with certain wrist movement. Second, when messages come in close to one another (smart notifications from Android phone) the first will display and vibrate, but the next will only vibrate, causing me to touch the device and scroll to read the message. Yes, I have the latest software and firmware. Message and call notifications are my biggest gripe with all Garmin devices I have owned, support has not helped, and different phones do not matter, weak vibration, missed notifications and calls are par for the course.

It has to be charged daily, and it takes over an hour to recharge each time. This is the first tracker that I've used with a sleep score. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too much functionality. ;) I bought this unit a month ago and have given up on it. Not because it does not work - it works very well for all of the functions it preforms and the associate app is fairly easy to use - but because it insists on doing too much for my needs. I recently had a pacemaker installed and wanted a unit to give me real-time information on my pulse rate and blood oxygen levels. I thought this unit would be great as it was priced reasonably and I have used other Garmin products which I have been very happy with in their design and performance. The problem is that, while it will do these, this unit will not JUST do these. It insists on a minimum of 5 functions like weather, sleep #'s, steps, etc. I didn't need or want these but could not turn them off. Frankly, I could not put up with the constant displays and 'helpful reminders' of stuff I had no intention of responding to (for instance, while I had turned off 'weather' information in the app, an empty-of-information 'weather' icon continued to display in the watch face and I kept getting app reminders that I needed to do more steps - even though I do stationary bike CV for 50 minutes each day). If it had allowed me to pare down to just those 2 functions, I'd have given it 5 stars. For someone who wants these functions (which I admit is probably the majority) this would be a great purchase! For me, I'm going to gift it to a friend who will be very happy for it, I'm sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helpful and informative This is my first fitness tracker ever so of course I cannot compare it with any other device. With that aside, I have found the Vivosmart 5 extremely helpful and informative as regards the biofeedback it provides. The Vivosmart enables me to put all those activities into one, big picture.

I had the Vivosmart 4 previously which physically broke apart just at the base of the display. I like that the band is substantially more robust and strong. I love all the new data especially related to sleep. The detail is awesome and helpful to my understanding of my sleep data from day-to-day. I was a little confused that floors were no tracked, but came to believe that I don't really care how many flights of stairs I climb every day. Overall I am very happy with my Vivosmart 5, including the battery life so far. As I continue on my quest to own my health this will be a handy companion and data source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from battery life is excellent Battery life is mazing but the small size is not practical especially for an older person as you can not see anything on the display. Only use it as it is recommended with my Dexcom7 and battery life is 4 x better than an apple watch. Difficult to use and figure out menus in app.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vivosmart 5 vs Fitbit Luxe Purchased for me. I own the Luxe and wanted to compare the two. Fitbit stays charged for 3.5 days, vivosmart only for 24 hours. I wear them at the same time and the steps are always way higher on the vivosmart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great metrics-but short battery life I am very happy with this device. The metrics are fantastic on the plus side I could have both by Fenix 6X sapphire and the Vivosmart loaded on my Apple 13 Plus Pro and easily switch back and forth without a loss of data. On the Con side, since I took Garmin’s suggestion regarding wearing the devices continuously to get a better data capture, I found the battery life on the Vivosmart is about 24 hours, causing me to have to plan when I recharge it. That said, it recharges quickly and I would have the same challenges with an Apple Watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Viviosmart 5: Much improved Viviosmart 5 is a much improved Viviosmart watch. Biggest improvement is being able to read watch face even in bright sunlight. Also much improved is the sleep feature. Moving through screens is improved through a button on watch face.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s OK. A little disappointing I bought this a few months ago. But after wearing it for a week or so I found that no barometer meant no stairs. No GPS was available unless you wanted to carry your phone. Sleep tracking was ok, but the metrics are missing. There was enough missing that I just use it as a pedometer in my pocket, and got another watch which is uncomfortable to sleep with, but it does the job much better. I still have a Vivosport with a dying battery I would use instead. But that’s just me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not My Vivosmart 3 I bought this to replace my Vivosmart 3 which was not recording sleep and, even after a few suggestions from Garmin support, couldn't be "fixed". The Vivosmart 5 is recording things in a different and strange way. Sleep doesn't show up immediately in the morning but comes on later in the day. My stress levels are off the charts according to the Vivosmart 5 but doctor measured blood pressure remain in healthy range, I'm thoroughtly perplexed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's ok I've been using this since mid October, it's ok. I thought I was up grading from the vivosmart 4, but the 5 doesn't recognize or record going up flights of stairs, which I do a lot of 5 to 8 flights stairs a day. I like the bigger screen. I also like the Good morning feature. It seems most of the up grades are features I'm not interested in, music, texts, that stuff. I looking for health tracking not the other stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product, But With a Hair Trigger I recently lost my Garmin Vivosmart 4 and replaced it with the new Vivosmart 5. Overall, I very much appreciate the added features and capabilities of the Vivosmart 5. The screen is larger and easier to view, and it's very easy to scroll through the daily data, e.g., steps, intensity minutes, calories burned. It also tracks more data, and that's great. Here's where I think the Vivosmart 5 could be improved: 1) Battery Life: My Vivosmart 4 went nearly a week on a single charge; the 5 goes about half that time, at best. I've tried taking the watch off at night to preserve power. However, I like the watch's sleep-tracking features, and still needs frequent charging anyway. 2) "Requesting Assistance" Feature: The "requesting assistance" feature is a nice idea, but it's too easy to activate it inadvertently. For example, when I was a passenger in a car, I dropped something between my seat and the center console. When I reached down to retrieve the dropped item, * apparently activated "requesting assistance." It scared the daylights out of my emergency contact. 3) Watch size: I am an adult female with skinny wrists. I purchased a Small/Medium watch. The face is so large that it barely fits across my wrist. Although it is comfortable and lightweight, it is also bulky, so much so that I may have to buy a second watch to use for dress-up occasions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device and Technical Support I have been using a Vivosmart HR+ device for several years and upgraded to a Vivosmart 5 about a month ago. It is a great device and has many more useful features that I take advantage of. There is one problem: I occasionally hike in an area where the cell phone coverage is spotty and loose connection, as a result, my mileage totals seem to be way off. The other features are fine. I recognize that this is a phone problem and I use my HR+ when I hike in these areas. After about a month, the heart rate sensor failed. I contacted Garmin and the support staff diagnosed the problem and said that they would send out a replacement immediately. I received it in 3 days. A problem occurred while trying to register the replacement - I could not connect thru either my phone or computer. I contacted Garmin thru their on-line chat. The support staff could not solve the problem on-line and asked me to send them some files, and said they would have their engineers look at the problem. I was contacted within 24 hrs and requested to try again. Whatever they did, the V5 connected flawlessly. While an inconvenience, I realize “stuff happens” and I am completely satisfied with the efforts and timeliness of the technical support staff. (2 thumbs up)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from eASY TO READ! My last Garmin tracked was slender in width and I loved it, but this new wider band makes it much easier to read what's on the tracker face. I didn't think I would like to wider wrist band but I'm so used to it now (after about a month) and I just love it. Glad I upgraded and made the change for the better. I think the battery last longer, too, so that's a great feature for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way better than the Vivofit 4 I had a Vivofit 4 that was abysmal. Didn't even have it a year. I got the Vivosmart 5 after a lot of research. I like the ease of the Vivosmart 5 and the fact that you don't have to purchase a subscription to use some of the features. I really like the sleep tracking. I get a lot more information than before and the activity settings are much better. I didn't find using the owner's manual helpful in editing which activity widgets I had on my Vivosmart 5. I found a video on Youtube that explained how to do this. Hence the reason I gave a 4 instead of 5 star rating. Overall, I think it's a very good tracking device that's easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the features and ease of use I have tried other fitness trackers. They were hard to use. The Garmin Vivosmart 5 is easy to use. The manual provides accurate of information. The Vivosmart 5 has made me more aware of my fitness. The features are exactly what I was looking for. The activities do a good job of providing what you need and give you the ability to modify how a particular activity is used. One activity missing, Indoor Bike. I am sure there are others, but this is the one I noticed. I like this fitness tracker so much; I bought my wife one. I would buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Newbie to Garmin V…5. Bought the 5 at suggestion of my trainer, ap too. It’s only been a week. Watch face small and hard to read but phone ap suffices. One suggestion -develop a buckle-less band. I struggle to get it in the right wrist. I’m a righty and wear a time watch on left wrist. And I suppose it would be more ADA friendly. Price was right too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG better than I thought or hoped I recently purchased a “new” boat and immediately replaced the trolling motor with a Force to get anchor lock. I didn’t think that I would use the remote but recently took three friends out which crowded the front deck. I pulled out the remote and positioned the boat from the “helm” with ease. The Force is smoother and easier to control than any trolling motor I’ve previously used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not good, don't buy Bought a few months ago and is a major disappointment. I wanted something to measure heart rate, steps and to record data for mild workouts on a stationary bike. First, it is unreliable - it doesn't always work and at times goes haywire requiring full reset. Two, the plastic wristband will rot your skin in just a couple of weeks. Three, it doesn't have a stationary bike activity and the others don't measure distance, nor does it accept data from the machine. Right now it is turned off and sitting on a table. The phone app is virtually useless as it doesn't keep history and is as confusing as they come to set up. The recharge cord doesn't connect well and often screws up the operation of the watch. The only upside, it usually keeps and displays good time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small improvement over Vivosmart 4 Purchased this about a month ago to replace my Vivosmart 4 because the battery would not stay charged. The Vivosmart 5 upgrade to the charging capability and cable is a much appreciated improvement. My disappointment relates to the rapid draining of my battery. My husband and I both charged our Vivosmart 5’s on a Monday. After doing very similar activities, on Thursday his battery read 63%, mine read 21%. The manual woefully lacks clarity on this, and online support is virtually non-existent, The red sensor is frequently lit; again no insight from the manual as to why nor what to do about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin Vivosmart 5 It not all that great. I have to wear both my apple watch because its just easier to work with and the Garmin is not much of a touch screen and you have to push the button a few times just to get the screen to appear and it doesn't stay connected and it will not read my pulse ox, I have to look at my apple watch for that and use my apple for all my alarms. I was looking at the other Garmins and the Vivoactive 4S would suite me best. Is there a way we and exchange it?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much more robust than it appears I'm sort of new to the Garmin fitness system — til now I only had a cycling GPS head unit and chest HR sensor, and the only data I ever captured in the app was from bicycle rides. But I recently took up some weight training and decided to dip my toes into the pool of wearables with a system I already sort of understood. IMMEDIATELY the vivosmart5 gave me so many more choices of how to monitor and catalogue my health and fitness. I feel so much more informed now, including factors in my sleep, which I never knew before. The reminders to drink water and stand/move throughout the day have made me aware that, despite cycling almost every day, I'm pretty lazy hahaha. I love the way the captured data is distilled in the app in such a way that I can access suggestions on how to improve my overall health and fitness levels. One of my favorite details is how it records weight training. It's very good at guessing the reps, sets, and the actual exercise you're doing, but if it gets it wrong, you can edit as necessary in the app, including adding the weight amounts you were using. But even more than that, the data capture is shown to you in an illustration of the human body with primary and secondary highlights of the muscles you just worked. It's a little finicky, but once you figure it out, it is AMAZING. The most unexpected thing it can do, and this was pretty big to me, is that by using your phone’s GPS, the vivosmart5 can record a bike ride with a level of detail similar to a proper head unit. I did NOT see that coming and it is a DELIGHT. Prior to now I was only recording dedicated bike rides — now I'm recording commute rides, errand rides, joyrides, the whole bit. I have to be honest that there is one thing I DO NOT LIKE, and that's the band. The little keeper that holds the loose end of the band is DIRECTLY under my wrist bone when I draw, write, or use a computer. I hacked this by popping the device out of the band and turning it around backwards — now when I wear it with the face facing correctly, the keeper is facing UP, and it's not an issue anymore. But I almost returned it because of this, so I recommend Garmin redesign the band, or make a version that's elastic or something, because it is pretty awful. That aside, this is so much more than just a simple pedometer — it is a robust and reliable data capture device that absolutely informs your fitness and health journey in a productive way. I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Battery life Great and costumer service A guy at the gym recommended the Garmin 7x but during my research I picked the Enduro 2 because of the bigger battery and brighter flashlight. Very happy with my Garmin Enduro 2. Also the help that the customer service has been giving me to learn all the features this watch has. They been wonderful 5 star's to them. Great team of Specialists

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 stars at best Been using this for about a month now and it's not the best product for the $$. The two main complaints I have is you can't send workouts to this device and the heart rate monitor function is often difficult to get connected to the phone app. Going to send this back and spend even more money to get the right product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ok I decided to quit my FitBit after years of being a constantly satisfied customer because the new FiBt are unusable worked for a few weeks then went black. and their CS response was an absolute joke trying to get them to honor their warranty went something like this, Me: "I'd like a replacement for the Fitbit I just purchased." Them: "No Coke, Pepsi." over and over and over again...same canned responses. So I happily went back to Garmin as I had before FB. I wanted a simple no-fuss affordable fitness tracker mainly for counting steps, heart rates, oxygen levels and sleep tracker. I had such a hard time trying to pair this with my phone and computer and this one is totally on me but I can barely read the info on the screen, and it is confusing to navigate through the options it provides. Inevitably I just don't wear it anymore because the only benefit I was getting was the steps I could barely read. I bought my daughter one and she sometimes uses hers but she was having issues with it pairing with mine and it doesn't keep a charge very long. But I do realize this is a very basic model so perhaps I need to look investing in a upgraded one to purchase because I am not going back to FB

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not impressed I've been a Fitbit user for years and decided to try a Garmin when my last Fitbit died. Some positives are the look, size and comfort. Negatives: The battery says it should last 7 days, but I have to charge it every 2- 3 days depending on my actvity level. I am surprised that the lack of color on screen bothers me, I didn't think it would, but it's very boring to look at the screen. I do not like the weighting tracker feature. I don't have time and don't want to spend my rest periods stopping and starting for each set. The swim feature is very inaccurate. I swim 500-700 meters a couple of days per week but it tells me I've gone 1250 or more meters. Overall it's an ok watch. I know others who have more expensive Garmins and they love them. I just don't like the size of the face on those. I will switch back to Fitbit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good features, but needs to be made user friendly, my suggestion is that it only be able to be turned off from the garmin after an event starts... the garnin has a double safety feature, so perfect... if your phone disconnects, you loose all data, the event is terminated... this is a terrible accident that has happened to me twice in the same week...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall very happy with this product but... So far I really love this fitness tracker. I like all the ways I can customize the features and it is very comfortable to wear (even at night). My only complaint is that the watch does not stay connected to my phone if I am more than 10 or 15 ft away from my phone. Even just walking into another room, the phone connection drops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Size Jump for What? Big jump in size over the VS4 both width and height. Can’t be worn with a cuffed shirt anymore. So what? Keep a VS4 & a VS5 on top of training watch (Marq)? Seems like an excessive ask. This could be user error, but I cannot get it to show up in ConnectIQ so I can’t change the watch face. Bigger watch but now I can’t read the time in the middle of the night (old man eyes). In the age of miniaturization this feels like a big foul.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vivosmart 5 I bought my Vivosmart 5 two months ago in March 2023 upgrading from my second Vivovsmart 4 which had stopped working. For the first couple of weeks I was very excited with the upgraded features such as sleep quality however now it my Vivosmart green light no longer shines and I have no pulse, energy or sleep data which is very disappointing for a device that is not yet two months old. The help web site was next to useless, no email address for complaints, the chat line does not function for the Vivosmart 5 and the telephone help line is only open during business hours, again more disappointment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still getting used to it! I bought about 2 weeks ago. Once I had to get in touch with customer service and we did a soft reset which solved the problem quickly. Think I may get in touch again with an issue I can’t figure out. It’s still new to me so I’m sure that’s what it is. Overall it fits my small wrist well. I keep it a little looser except when I’m exercising then I tighten it a notch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the tracker for me The only fitness activity I do is walk. I’m comfortable this tracker counts my steps as accurately as can be expected, but it does not convert it to miles accurately at all. I walk on an indoor track and the signal to my phone isn’t good at times so I don’t use the GPS. Instead, I set the tracker to use a custom stride length which I’ve confirmed repeatedly to be accurate. But the miles calculated using my steps times my custom stride length are never even close to the distance I walk on the measured track.

I really like it a lot. I have had a Vivosmart HR for several years and the difference between these two is amazing. The only downside is that it requires charging every other day. I realize that the more functions it has the faster the battery will run out. It as just disappointing since Garmin is such a high tech company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buggy and unreliable I'm on my second vivosmart 5 after the first had to be replaced after less than 6 months because it started giving nonsense numbers for walk distances. For example, saying that my 1.5 mile walk was actually 50 miles in length. I'd love to be able to walk 100 mph, but believe me, I'm not. Today, the replacement, which I've had for a month, started doing the same thing. And just now the display won't even turn on. Really regret this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvements over previous Vivo models This is a very nice fitness tracker with numerous features beyond the Vivosport that I have enjoyed using for many years, but which Garmin apparently refuses to update since 2017. It lacks the built-in GPS of the Vivosport, and I have been avoiding trackers that depend on the GPS of my phone in case I want to track distance without my phone. But, hey, I always seem to have my phone, so what does it matter? Maybe a little bit: I have a frequently used walking route that my Vivosport and Google Maps say is exactly a mile. But when I use the Vivosmart with my phone GPS, it consistently says it is 1.12 miles. There is something to be said about having built-in GPS. The Vivosmart makes up for that with many features my Vivosport lacked. Like a dedicated Yoga tracker. No more do I have to edit my daily Yoga in Garmin Connect to change "other" to "yoga." The heart rate is accurate, at least for now. It had been in my Vivosport, but failed 2 years ago, requiring me to purchase a replacement, and recently the HR readings were much too low, which encouraged my purchase of the Vivosmart 5. Sleep tracking is much more detailed, which I greatly appreciate. The only thing I struggle with is tapping sensitivity. I often have to tap on the tracker many times before it responds, and this never happened on the Vivosport. So, I would not call the Vivosmart 5 perfect, but I am satisfied with it and happy to be able continuing to track my activities and statistics with Garmin Connect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Huge I purchased this product when my Vivosmart 4 band cracked off the watch. I love my Vivosmart 4 and I really wanted to like this, but it looks huge and clunky on my small wrist. It reminds me of my first Garmin HR which always got scratched and caught on things because it was so tall. The 5 does appear to have many advanced features accessible from the device.
