Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bot Manager and different features to manage threats What is our primary use case? We are a B2C company. We do financial payments using apps. All our traffic comes through this system. How has it helped my organization? As a product, it has good capabilities, including professional support. However, it's risky for us to rely on AI for real-time traffic management. We use in-house analytics but avoid automatic actions due to their high impact. For example, I live in a developing country. Everyone has different types of phones, apps, and everything else. So, if someone is using a legacy phone, that is still a use case here. If AI decides that this is an end-of-life phone or end-of-life Android operating system, it starts blocking that traffic. We may potentially lose millions or probably thousands and hundreds of thousands of hits per second. Everything is all about how well we serve payments because we're into payments. So, AI is used for analytics but not for real-time decisions. We can't afford to block traffic based on AI models due to the variety of devices and operating systems our users have. What is most valuable? Features like scalability and uptime are most effective. The solution has both Bot Manager and different features to manage threats. What needs improvement? It could have better analytics and reporting visibility in the OEM console. For how long have I used the solution? I have used it for eight to nine years now. This tool changed its name, it's now App and API Protector. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Their edge network is really good. Edge, CDN, and everything helps us manage our workloads. So scaling with this tool is easy. It can scale down as well. There's no need to scale down, but the amount of traffic we have is managed without any issues. How are customer service and support? We have TAM support for customizations and rule management. It’s very helpful. It’s flawless so far, so I’d rate it a ten. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive What was our ROI? While it's more expensive than others, the ROI is good for large-scale infrastructure with millions of hits per second. It’s expensive but serves our purpose well. We’ve tried other CDNs and services. For example, Amazon’s WAF lacks fine-grain traffic control. Other CDNs couldn't handle our traffic volume. We have a large volume of traffic, millions per second. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price is higher than others. It could be about 80% to 70% more expensive than other tools. So, it’s not just a slight difference. What other advice do I have? For large infrastructures serving millions, it’s highly effective. For smaller startups, different tools might suffice. Overall, I would rate it a nine out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from A stable security solution with usage-based charges What is our primary use case? We use Akamai Kona Site Defender because we need CDN. We have mobile apps, and we host them internally. Sometimes, we also deploy an IPA file for iPad. I think all the users from our distributor are going to download directly from our server. We use Akamai to distribute all the IPA files to our network provider without any significant latency for our distributor. What is most valuable? I like that the charges are all based on usage and labor costs. For the time that we spend onboarding almost 252020 FQDN, Akamai charges us only for the traffic usage, but it's only charging us for the labor costs for onboarding. What needs improvement? It would be better if there weren't any issues with latency. We had latency issues, but I think they are all solved now. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Akamai Kona Site Defender has been stable so far. How are customer service and technical support? Because our third-party partner has a good relationship with Akamai, I think they can call the Akamai to join the incident call when an incident is happening. I think they're quite good and responsive for that. There is also a lot of documentation online regarding troubleshooting. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is quite easy because we mainly outsource it to another company. What about the implementation team? We just ask the third-party provider to implement the solution or engage Akamai and make some changes. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? There is no license at all for Akamai. They are going to charge us only for the usage. What other advice do I have? I would recommend this solution to potential users. I think if the FIC has a CDN, it's easier in terms of onboarding. In terms of the commercial part and charging, I think Akamai is more efficient. I think it's important to have a CDN feature inside. On a scale from one to ten, I would give Akamai Kona Site Defender a nine. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
