The unit I received DOES work, but the laptop complains that it is underrated, as in not the wattage rating that the original power adapter is. It functions, but takes longer to charge. I would have purchased the more powerful one had I known and/or had it been available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not order this is you have an Alienware m17x even if it is recommended by service tag I'm rating this low for two reasons: 1 Because this adaptor is what the website recommended I order when I inputed my m17x r3 service tag yet is underpowered by 60W; 2) It is significantly overpriced compared to readily available alternatives. I continue to be baffled how uncoordinated Dell's webpage is. They recommend products that are incompatible with a product even when you enter your service tag. When you flag that the product you receive is incompatible, they refer you to technical services rather than returns or exchanges. The time to process returns upon receipt is significantly too long. Do yourself a favor and ensure you check the technical specifications yourself and compare prices with generic brand alternatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not enough power Adapter seems to work fine in normal usage, but despite this 180W model being a recommended part for my Alienware M15 R3, it is underpowered compared to the original 240W model, so I have had to turn off the undersized adapter warning in my BIOS. Bit annoying, won't be trusting the recommended parts any more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works, but not the right wattage. This power cord works but is a lower wattage than the original power supply supplied with the original Alienware laptop purchase. This causes a BIOS error message to pop-up every time I start my laptop. This also causes the laptop to recharge at a slower rate. This power supply was the recommended power supply in the replacement parts on the Dell website. There should have been a message to provide the details around the lower wattage would cause the BIOS error on startup.

Although there was a lengthy delay in shipping (the dreaded "supply chain" problem), the unit did eventually arrive and solved my problem by working as advertised. Not much more you can say about an AC adaptor!

Dell said this is the adaptor for my computer, but this is a 180 watt power supply, and as soon as I plugged it in, the computer said it wanted 240 watts. This isn't clearly labeled anywhere, so it was a surprise to me. The computer still runs and charges ok, but still a big mistake by Dell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes my laptop unbearably hot I can have this plugged into my PC for 5 minutes with a video or game running, and the bottom becomes insanely hot to the touch; leaves your hands red within seconds and my keyboard will also get very, very warm. Never had this issue until I bought this charger that DELL Sales Support linked me to buy! NOT happy!

Why would this be listed as the correct one and the Dell CS person say it’s correct if it’s underpowered? You get a bios error saying it’s underpowered for laptop. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dell support doesn't always give correct answer. It works ok with my R3, but laptop gives message that it needs 240 watt. I have to boot up and then plug in the adapter and it does charge the battery after that. I called in to Dell support to determine witch adapter to get and was told this one although it obviously isn't.

I went to the Dell online store and searched for it using my laptop's service tag. I double checked that the power supply listed my laptop under compatibility. However, while it does plug in and power the laptop, every time I use it I get a message telling me that an "undersized adapter is detected." In addition, the laptop appears to run in a throttled back mode when it is plugged in.

I come to find out it wasn't, it was a dead laptop at 19 months old. There were no options to fix or repair that was economically viable. I returned the power adapter and got charged a late fee for the return because I had paid for it on Dell credit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent fixed location adapter Since I have a fixed work location and also travel with the G5 laptop, I wanted a power adapter I could leave by my desk and one that I would carry with me. The original adapter is 130 watts. I purchased the 180 watt adapter assuming it would provide faster charging. It does that and does it well. If you are purchasing this as a travel adapter there are a couple of things you should consider. First, it large and heavy. As a fixed adapter it is fine. If you plan on putting this in your bag, better get a bigger bag. I would chose the 130 watt version first. It too is a fairly large unit, but not nearly as large or heavy as this unit. The 130 watt adapter has a very handy built-in strap to hold the cords neatly when you're traveling. The 180 watt adapter does not have this feature. Again, consider the 180 watt unit as a fixed location adapter. Finally, and this is more an aesthetic comment. The 130 watt adapter has this very nice illuminated blue ring around the jack when it is powered up. It has no impact on performance, but I like. Sadly, the 180 watt adapter is lacking this feature. Just saying! I like the 180 watt adapter. I'm glad I was not getting this to be my primary or travel charger, but as a fixed location charger it does the job nicely, oh, and you can use it as a very effective paperweight.

I was just trying to buy a backup for my laptop that I could keep in my laptop bag, but this is not the same charger the laptop came with. It does work, but frustrating that no one at Dell could find the exact charger this laptop comes with (which is a good bit smaller and thinner).

I get a message every power up that my computer will not run at peak performance because the wattage is too low on this adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad search results I’m mostly disappointed that when I put in the parameters of my laptop, it gave me a charging cord that although compatible, wasn’t the same one that came with it. The cord that came with my laptop was a 240W, so every time I would boot up the laptop, it would give me a message stating this cord works, but isn’t the correct one. Other than that, the cord worked fine until my dog accidentally broke my laptop. Lol
