Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement service I am sorry to be giving this review, because I have always been happy with Canon in past. I have been waiting 1 week for a replacement printer for a brand new printer which would not allow me to change an ink cartridge when it called for a replacement. The fact that the printer had a insurmountable problem did not bother me, it is the time being used to replace it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best printer I've had I bought this printer two years ago, and has been the best. Duplex printing and scanning, very low running cost (be sure to select the 'print to grayscake' option, to avoid using color cartridges on black text.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printing Powerhouse... I received this free Cannon Printer Sample to review, I was very impressed with the speed and picture print quality this device provided. This stand alone work force is great for anyone starting a small business, or for professional home use. Installation was a breeze; connecting multiple devices for printing was also simple and easy. Mobile printing was my favorite, and with the volume of printing this ink source was adequately enough for my personal use. Overall I give this unit 5 stars. Jaime D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer! I was sent this printer for free in return for writing an unbiased review which is what I did below. I have been using this printer for several days, and I really like it. It was easy to set up for USB (and when I had a question, I called Canon support, and they were great at walking me through it. It makes nice copies, it is quick and it is very quiet for an inkjet printer. I would definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything you need for home or small business! I would like to note that I received a free sample in return for my honest review of this product. I have operated a small business in my home for several years now. I have been using a different brand for the last several years and have never been happy with the overall product. Between my business and personal needs, I felt that I needed a higher end product. I have definitely found it. First, I would start off with my only negative about the Canon Maxify MB5420. It is definitely larger than past all-in-one printers that I have used. I was surprised when I took it out of the box. One note is that it has a similar footprint to others, but is just taller than most home printers I have seen and used. Now I would like to note that there is a reason for this- it is a fully loaded all-in-one that makes my life easier. The most obvious and simplest feature that I love is the high capacity paper trays and ability to handle several different sized paper. Also, though I have not needed refills for my ink yet, it will be much more cost-effective than my last brand. Obviously, you have the ability to easily print, scan, copy and fax. Set-up was very easy- I had it up and running in about 30 minutes. It connects with my computer and even with our mobile devices through our wifi. I even have an app on my phone for quick and easy printing on the go. This was a nice surprise, with the ability to print out pictures or documents quickly and easily right from my phone. I have also noticed that the speed of scanning and printing are very fast, in comparison to my last one, which was a high end home printer from another popular brand. I have not even gotten a chance to use all the features the MB5420 has yet. I look forward to the next time I need to send a 50 page fax or scan a 100 page legal document. From what I have seen, it will take a fraction of the time and effort that it normally would have in the past. I highly recommend this product. Whether for its capacity, speed, or ease of use, among other things, Canon Maxify MB5420 Printer has made my hectic life a little bit simpler and easier. It is perfect for small business or home use. I have already recommended it to my brother for his home use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Print Quality! I was given this printer in exchange for my honest review and have been using it for almost 2 weeks. I love its versatility and excellent print quality! Setup was easy and quick. The detailed “Getting Started” instructions were easy to follow and accurate. I had no problems getting the printer installed and connected to my WiFi network. Connecting to my Windows 10 laptop was quick and straightforward via the http://canon.com/ijsetup link. Setup from my iPhone took less than 5 minutes, including the time required to find, download and install the Canon Print app from the App Store. Printing photos directly from my iPhone is quick and easy! I’ve printed color 4x6” photos on glossy photo paper and the color reproduction and clarity was excellent. The two print trays hold a total of 500 pages of paper and are adjustable for a wide variety of paper sizes, including legal. The black and white or color print quality is comparable to laser printing. The printer supports two-sided printing and scanning. The scan function supports scanning to PC, email or flash drive and scans quickly with high resolution. The printer has a “quiet mode” which reduces the device’s operating noise, making it comparable to a smaller inkjet printer. The only minor issue that I encountered was with the ink cartridge installation process. This printer will not release an ink cartridge until the printer determines that it is empty. Upon initial installation, the printer indicated that one of the cartridges was not installed correctly. It was snapped in place and could not be released because it was full. I had to re-boot the printer for it to acknowledge that the ink cartridge was properly installed. The expected page yield of the printer cartridges makes them an economical alternative to those used by many other inkjet printers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from IT WILL DIE QUICKLY (BEWARE ERROR B504) We had a 1 model earlier version of this printer MB5120 when it gave us the error code B504. I could not find a fix and called tech support. They said it was most likely a logic board issue. Canon replaced it under warranty with this MB5420. I asked if the warranty reset with the new printer and they said, "No, it will be covered under your previous warranty until that runs out". That warranty expired 3 months after getting the replacement. Convenient for them because less than a year after getting the replacement the new MB5420 is now getting the B504 error and now there is no warranty. One thing I noticed is that most of the good reviews here are from people who had the printer way less than a year and most only a couple of months. From my research most people reported this error occurring about a year or a little longer for the error to appear. Which means it may be under warranty. But keep in mind that when they send you a replacement it does not come with a new warranty. Canon will tell you it is a problem with using off-brand/generic toner. The problem with that reasoning: 1 The toner type does not create logic board problems 2) I only used Canon toner By profession I am systems engineer for a major corporation where I maintain systems hardware/software/firmware/networks to include printers. I could fix this but the part is almost as much a new printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality and Feature-Rich I received a free sample of this printer for review and overall, I love it. Out of the box the Canon Maxify MB5420 is sleek and beautiful in a high gloss black finish and super easy to assemble and setup. It provides numerous printing features that I have been looking for in an all-in-one color printer that is great for small business as well as busy home use: 500 sheet capacity printing and 50 sheet ADF capacity scanner with the ability to print to multiple print sizes including A4, and label and envelope printing. It has Duplex print, fast first page print, scan, fax, and my favorite features - wireless capable, Mobile device printing including AirPrint, and Cloud printing from Google and Microsoft (which I love). Fast printing at 6 seconds for black only pages and 7 seconds for color which is hardly noticeable between the two. My old color printer takes twice as long to print color pages than black only so this is a big improvement for me. It has a big 3.5" touch LCD that is easy on the eyes to read and select the different options. I also like the fact that Canon services and Support is 100% US-based, keeping jobs in the USA as well as helping to assure that I will be able to understand the person on the other side of the line. A couple of things that could be improved upon is that I think the 2 foot cord is too short. I would have liked to see a 5-6 foot cord as I have a desk that the Printer cord needs to go behind to reach the power outlet requiring an extension cord. Also, although I like the fact that they have video tutorials online as well as the manual, it would have been nice to see a manual or feature tutorial included with the printer besides just the Getting Started 1 & 2 quickstep instructions. However, these are minor annoyances at best and do not take anything away from this feature-rich printer. I highly recommend this high-quality printer for its capabilities and ease of installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the canon mb5420 I received for free the Canon MB5420 on August 15 for evaluation. I unpacked it and set it up right away. There was no real assembly needed, so setting it up was easy. I used all the features of the printer a great deal. . In most cases it met or exceeded my expectations. The print, and scan features performed great, and I was impressed on the speed and quality. The Fax print out was also good quality. The only problem I had was with coping. The quality was good, but it was somewhat slow. It took several minutes to make a copy. The overall quality was very excellent, and I would recommend this printer to a friend or Family member.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product for Home Office or Small Business Dear Consumer, In exchange for my opinion/agreeing to write a product review, I received the Canon Printer - MAXIFY MG5420 FREE OF CHARGE, shipped directly to my home. Overall, this is a great, high-quality product. Set-up was simple and it has all of the features necessary to function in a home office or small business. Due to the fact that more and more people are working remotely, home office equipment and furniture becomes a part of the home décor. I`ve often wondered if products such as this could be made available in colors other than black. The only other improvement I would make is to decrease the size of the machine to fit in smaller spaces.

A little care can go a long way. Oh Yea, My other printers are all still working and doing a wonderful job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Parts can be purchased for this printer! DO NOT BUY!!! I own a MB5420, it's just over one year old. The logic board just went in the printer and CANON just told me that they don't sell the parts for this printer even though they are still making and selling the printer!! I used to be a big CANON fan!! NO MORE!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Product Purchased product about a year ago and the unit has had to be replaced 3 times already in that time span for the same problem code 5040 which is a hardware failure code per phone support and can not be fixed by the end user and must be returned for a replacement unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old software no longer works While the printer has held up software that ties it to devices has not been updated. It no longer prints from android because the CA certificate self signed for the device is not acceptable to Android devices when installed . Even manually installed. The encryption of the self signed cert is too old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Performer I received a free sample of the new Canon Maxify MB5420 to test and write a review about. Overall, the new Canon MB5420 is a solid machine. It was very easy to get out of the box and set up. I had the machine hooked up on my WiFi network in less than 10 minutes. The wireless print features are great, and now I can print from my iPad and iPhone with a few simple clicks. The printer touchscreen works great and is easy to understand and use. The print quality is very good for an Ink Jet, and event printed photos from my iPhone with great quality. One thing I would like Canon to improve in the next software release, is the signal strength of the WiFi, and speed to takes to connect to the WiFi network when turning on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent, but quite bulky. This All-in-One was sent to me for review, and I must say I am not overly impressed. It is large- though not heavy, and I have had to go out and buy a night stand for it to go on due to the size ( 19"w X 15"l X 14"h). Though it appears very simple to use, I can not get it to connect wirelessly to my computer and had two buy 2 cords (one to plug it into the router, one to plug it into my computer). Other than that it was easily set up. It makes copies just fine, but I can not get it to scan. And, when you print it is pretty loud and shakes the table it is currently on (I am waiting for the night stand to come in). I have no need for the fax feature, so I can not give an opinion on that. The touch screen menu is nice, but it beeps pretty loud any time you select a feature. If your ink is running low it will tell you, and you can even pull up what type of ink it is and print the page out to take with you to buy more. I looked up the All-in-One and noticed that it is also quite expensive. For an business this would probably not be a bad investment-granted you can get all of the functions working. However, for my small office and home it is much to large.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Business!! I received this product for free in exchange for my review. When I received this printer I was shocked, because I didn't expect to receive something so high tech to review. I must say this is just what I needed to help me continue to build my business on the Administration side as a Professional MUA (Makeup artist). I must say that the setup process takes some time to get down, but once it's finished you're ready to get rocking. I love that this printer has the capabilities to print, scan, copy and fax. I love the wireless capabilities as I have been able to connect my smartphone, tablet, laptop and desktop to it. It has so many awesome features to choose from as well. I also love how it's already quiet while printing, however, it has an additional feature called the quiet setting. I also love the 2 drawers for holding paper of different sizes. The full color printing comes out poster ready. I have printed quiet a few things on this printer and I'm excited to say that I am in love with it. Although I have yet to print envelopes or pictures taken with my smartphone, I doubt this printer will disappoint at any capacity. If anyone is in the market for a printer to use for business and/or personal use, I highly recommend the Canon Matrix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Large Capacity Printer! Overall, I really liked this printer. I had some issues in setting it up, but I can`t blame Canon. I spoke to the Canon help desk for over an hour and he walked me through a ton of things to get it running. After all that he mentioned that it was probably my router, but he can`t help me with that. He also said that it would probably need a reset. So we hung up, I reset my modem and taa daa! The printer worked. I was so excited. The printer was relatively easy to set up. I had a hard time figuring out how to put paper in the paper trays, but finally realized that the trays extend beyond the face of the machine it made more sense. The print outs are amazing and it is really quick. The only issues I had with it were when I first need to print some thing, it takes a while to warm up. It is also a really large machine. I have the space for it, so that wasn`t a problem. It is about double the size of my old printer, but that is made up for in capacity and speed. I should mention that I was sent a free sample of this printer to use in exchange for this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Home Office Printer First and foremost, I would like to say that I received this printer in exchange for agreeing to write a non-bias review. I have never used a Canon printer before. I have always found myself sticking with other printers. However, when I came across the Canon Maxify MB5420 with claimed better output quality than other wireless small office all-in-one printers, I simply could not pass up the opportunity to try this printer out. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy this printer was to set up. When you first take it out of you will note that it has a little weight to it, but is somewhat comparable to other like-printers. They pack and tape it unbelievably well; it takes a few minutes to find and pull off all the taped points. The next thing you notice is that they have thorough warning sheets and pretty detailed setup instructions. I had the instruction manual open, but everything was as simple as 1-2-3. This printer has two 250-sheet trays for a standard capacity of 500 pages. For scanning, you will notice that it also has a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) that scans both sides of your paper. What impressed me the most was how easy it was to connect the printer up to my home WiFi. I simply entered my password using the number keys on the printer, and I was off to the races! Another neat little feature is the mobile printing option. I was able to download the Canon Print app, and the connection was simple as flipping a light switch. I was able to print immediately from both my Samsung Phone and my Acer tablet. From the printer itself, you can access the Maxify Cloud Link-which let you print from online sources and upload directly to Google Drive. Did I mention that you can also use the printer via Google Cloud Print? This neat little function allows you to send documents from 'ANY' Web-connected computers, smartphones, and devices. I was able to test this feature by sending a copy of an email to my home printer. To my surprise was the quality of prints coming out on the paper. As grad school starts to ramp up, I've been busy prepping and preparing lesson plans for the classes I teach. I was printing out all sorts of resources and materials for my class, so I can say I have had a chance to put this printer through the ringer. Every time, the print produce quality prints on a consistent basis. Consistency is what will win me over time after time. Also, another neat little feature is the automatic double-sided printing feature. I've yet to experience any paper jams. I am, however, interested to see how long the ink lasts being both a professor and small-business owner. Instead of printing papers at the office, I can now bring work home and print out all of my students' papers at home using my new Canon MAXIFY MB5420 printer. The printer has surpassed all of my expectations. Thanks Canon for producing a quality small office printer. Overall - It is an excellent choice for anyone looking to purchase a small office inkjet all-in-one printer with fantastic output quality, and a generous paper capacity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and excellent quality I received a free maxify mb5420 printer in exchange for writing a review and I can honestly say this printer was much better than I expected. It was easy to set up and use, wireless printing only took a minute to set up, overall very user friendly. I brought the printer to my work office to test it at a different level and it definitely surpassed all of our needs! I love having this printer at home though again. It is quick and reliable and doesn`t seem to be using tons of ink like some of my previous printers. It is larger than standard personal home printers but it is not large in relation to the capacity of the work it can do. I definitely recommend this printer and I can say that the fact that I got it for free did not influence my decision. Happy printing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A HUGE dissappointment I purchased this useless machine about 6 months ago and it has provided me with nothing but headaches ever since. I print and scan about 90 – 100 pages five days a week for work. From the unit overheating while scanning, to ink smudges, to having to register the paper trays every time I put paper in them, to paper jams, to skipping pages while scanning, to scanned items coming out all askew, this machine is just not up to its hype. It is a worthless!!! I have had three different Canon products and they have ALL been a disappointment. Never again will buy from Canon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT QUALITY! I RECEIVED A FREE SAMPLE OF THE CANON PRINTER - MAXIFY MB5420 FOR A REVIEW AND I THOUGHT IT WAS OVERALL A REALLY GOOD PRINTER/COPIER/SCANNER/FAX. IT HAS A LARGE PAPER STORAGE AND EASILY CONNECTS TO USB AND CAN PRINT FROM OR SCAN TO A USB ALSO. THE ONLY THING I FOUND IT LACKED WAS DOUBLE SIDED SCANNING. SET UP WAS REALLY EASY AND THE PRINTING ITSELF WAS QUICK AND VERY GOOD PRINTING QUALITY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent printer! Although, I did receive a free sample of the Canon Maxify MB5420, I will offer my review of this product as honestly as I know how. Upon receiving the printer, my first impressions while opening the box was that everything was packaged securely and in a very concise manner. Unboxing went easily and all items that needed to be either removed or unsecured was clearly marked with easy to remove tape. The quick start directions were right on top and proved to be very easy to follow. I did find that I needed to pay close attention to the directions in setting up the printer to fit my particular needs because of the myriad options available. I am using the printer in a small office environment so I set it up both as a direct connection to my computer and wireless as well. Once connected to my computer, it self prompted for updating and downloaded all current software and updated itself with ease. I should say that I have owned several Canon printers in the past and am actually replacing a Canon Pixma MX392 with this model. I am familiar with the way Canon`s generally operate, and this newest model did not differ greatly with the exception of offering many more bells and whistles. The MB5420 comes with an LCD touch screen which I find very helpful. It is very responsive and brightly lit for easy reading. The on screen directions are intuitive and easy to follow. The printer ink cartridges are different from what I`m used to - they resemble slim toner cartridges. They installed easily and quickly. I tried printing a variety of documents and photographs and they all printed extremely quickly and with crisp detail. I particularly liked the paper loading cartridge on this model. If printing on 4 X 6, 5 X 7 photos, envelopes, letter or legal size paper stock, all you need to do is take out the cartridge and adjust the paper tray itself without the need of using various trays. The MB5420 has two paper trays so it`s easy to keep one tray filled with the most often used paper choice. I printed a professional test image found online to see how photos would reproduce on glossy photo paper. The test image not only printed very quickly, but the colors came out true and rich in detail. I also tested the ease of adjustment in printing a single 4 X 6 photo. It proved to be a very simple adjustment to make and the small paper choice printed smoothly. In addition to printing directly from my computer, I also tried printing wirelessly from my Android phone using a free Canon app. Although, not a terribly robust program, it proved to be easy for the printer and phone to communicate and set up. I was able to print both documents and photos wirelessly from my mobile phone. I would like to have more flexibility in editing images before printing, but I suppose you can do that to the image prior to using the print utility. I found the crop editing function to be virtually useless, for example. The crop was minimal at best and I was not able to focus directly on a person`s face to zoom in. Scanning, faxing and copying proved to be effortless and extremely fast. I think we`ve all come to expect these functions to work and work well by default and the MB5420 did not disappoint. Also, when set to quiet mode, the printer is virtually silent, It does slow down the printing somewhat, but that is to be expected. Overall, I was very impressed by this printer. I have not had it long (just under two weeks), but so far it has worked flawlessly and is quite an upgrade from my previous printer. I hope this review proves to be helpful to those of you considering purchasing this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too Complicated, Period! If there is handwritten parts on a document, it must be scanned as .jpg, otherwise it's it's all jumbled badly, with misc. text boxes and Letters that I've yet to find an explanation for. Also a bummer, the auto document feeder in .pdf only. SO I get to scan one at a time... the hundreds and hundreds of handwritten docs for which I'd planned to use the auto feeder. The top portion that must be lifted is heavy and awkward because it wants to slam itself shut hard and fast each time I start to close it but it's so heavy I won't try it. The paper holders must be registered every single time you pull it out, which I find ridiculous. I have to read and reread the manual which is of little help anyway because there are so many options I can't remember what does what and when from one print job to the next. The quiet feature is fabulous if you're not in a hurry. And good luck figuring out how to print photos. The coolest feature is you can scan like a dozen photos at once and they come out as individual files if you can figure out how to do it. I read about it but it happened on accident, now I can't remember how I did it. But, as long as the pics fit on the glass and I keep a fraction of space between all edges...I know it can be done. If you think you're going to print hundreds of docs at once, go elsewhere, the ink gets lighter and lighter with over 20 pages I've found.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love and Hate This Printer I love and hate this printer. The good news, when the printer works, its GREAT. Print quality is decent and fast. Scans piles of documents well. Software and utilities good with plenty of options. Now the bad. The ink cartridge system is the worst I've ever experienced... I should say suffered. First, you can't just swap the cartridges whenever you want. The printer demands that the cartridge be empty. Why? When you do run out of ink and swap the cartridges, the nightamre begins. Without exaggeration, I've had to do nozzle and deep cleanings 30-40 times to get the printer to print again - black is the worst. Think of all the time and ink wasted. Did anyone test this printer? Beyond frustrating and completely unacceptable for a printer in this price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use with great features We received this printer for free in exchange for using it for several weeks and giving our honest opinion about it. The first thing that was impressive was the thoughtful packaging. The plastic wrapping had built in handles so the printer would be lifted out with having to tip the box. The printer was simple to connect and set up. The software installation from a CD was straightforward and went smoothly. We really like the automatic on/off feature so we don`t have to go make sure it is on then turn it off again to save power. The ability to scan to a USB drive is convenient. It has the ability to scan two sided documents without flipping them which is a great feature. We were impressed with the quality of photo prints. They were crisp and true to color. I would highly recommend this printer for a home office or business that does not need high volume scanning as it isn`t terribly fast when it scans, but it has every feature you could want and the printing is speedy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Printer Overall I love this printer although there is one minor concern. I've used this printer for about 3 weeks and I love it. I should mention here though that I received this Canon printer for free. The printer was fairly easy to use straight out of the box. I think its about average size for a printer that has all of the bells and whistles this one does. I hooked it up pretty quickly. There's an app that you can download which lets you print straight from your table or mobile device and it was also easy to install and use. The printer prints documents and photos really fast and the image and text quality were excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by how great this printer was. The only thing I am concerned with is that the ink is a little bit costly. But I think its a little costly because of how many prints you get from 1 cartridge. Again, overall I love this printer. It would be good for a small office or home use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet printer I received a free sample of this printer to review and was truly impressed with the ease it was to set up and use. It was quiet when printing, holds a good deal of paper, and easy to switch from task to task. My only complaint is that it is on the tall side, but since it holds more paper that maybe why it is so large. It is so far a good machine that prints cleanly and quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Efficient and Very User-Friendly! I received a free sample of this printer to review, and I was very pleased with its performance. The setup process was very simple, and I was amazed at how the computer and printer communicated so quickly. There was very little that I needed to do to facilitate the setup process, other than download the setup software and click "next." The document printing performance is excellent, as well as the quality of the print and the brilliance of the color. The scan feature is quite simple as well, and you can easily specify a folder for your scans to be saved. This is a more user-friendly than my printer at work, and I thought it was pretty simple in the beginning. The only feature that I did not utilize was the fax feature, since I do not have a landline. But I'm sure the fax process would be just as simple as the rest. This printer is extremely user-friendly, fast, and has great quality. I honestly don't have any complaints about the performance of this multi-functional printer. It's everything that I would need!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Printer I received this free printer to review and I'm very satisfied. PROS: 1. Excellent quality when printing 2). Eco-friendly - can print double-sided 3). Can work wirelessly or wired 4). I was able to print from my computer, tablet and my phone after downloading the free app (very easy to set up) 5). Able to print, scan and fax CONS: 1). Printing is pretty slow 2). The set-up instructions were not very clear, especially when loading letter paper. Took me quite some time to set that part up. 3). The printer only works with later operating systems, so I had to update my Macbook before being able to print 4). VERY large and takes up my entire desk 5). Pretty loud when printing and shakes the entire desk

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for teachers! I received a free sample of this printer to review. The printer worked very well. My wife and I are teachers and used the printer quite a bit before the black ink level became low. The printer driver was not easy to install and we were only able to install it on one of our laptops. Otherwise it is a fine product for printing and copying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I absolutely love it! I acquired the MB5420 Maxify as a free sample without knowing a thing about it other than it was a Canon printer; I absolutely love it! I am an attorney and have great need to produce and print high quality legal documents. Straight from the box, I felt that there was something very special about the MB5420, it required no assembly other than loading its ink cartridges, which was easy to do. The machine is extremely well built and has the look and feel of a very high-end piece of office equipment. It holds a total of 500 sheets of paper in two paper trays with intuitive paper installation. Canon MB5420 can be used with a computer, a tablet, a smartphone with cloud services, or just a USB stick. The printer is wireless, yet can be hardwired to a router or to an individual computer, but the set-up is so easy that I opted for wireless, both with my phone and laptop. A PC will need Windows 7 or higher and a Mac will need OS 10.8 or higher, though my Mac, running 10.7.5 Lion, installed a driver and then used Airprint for wireless printing; everything works, so I am not upgrading to 10.8 anytime soon. I used my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge phone and was so impressed with the Canon app that I almost didn’t try it on my laptop. A printer is only as good as the product it produces; print quality is all-important to me. I have never come across an inkjet printer that could compare to a laser printer, but I must say that the Canon MB5420 comes very, very close, in fact, it comes close enough that I shall never hesitate to print a letter to a judge or other important person using it. As far as color printing goes, it is amazing. I downloaded a scan of a watercolor painting of the gorgeous river that flows less than 500 feet from my childhood home in Massachusetts, which has overlooked that river since 1880. I printed the picture directly from my Android phone using the Canon app. The app allowed me to properly size the picture before printing. I hit the print button and the result literally stunned me --- The print looked as if the artist had just finished the painting and I was looking at her work from over a century ago. Right down to the look and texture of the coldpress watercolor paper. I scanned 49 pages at once, some of them double-sided, and the auto scanner did everything, automatic feed, double sided scanning when necessary and it placed the originals nicely back together in a tray. The scans went directly to my USB, though they could have gone to either my phone or laptop. You can adjust the quality of the scans, but even on the lowest setting, the scans look great and show no signs of image degradation even with type sizes as small as 6 or 8 points. Scanning is fairly quick, a lot faster than I would have imagined. Copying is a pleasure. The MB5420 can also print from the cloud using Google or Canon cloud services; it can access Dropbox or Google Drive and print PDF files stored there. I rate Canon MB5420 a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. There is nothing that I don’t like about it. I did not use it as a fax machine, but I am confident that that feature is as good as the rest. David W., Esq.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up, use, and great quality prints I received this printer as a part of a review in exchange for my honest feedback. Overall, this printer is on par with all the HP printers I have used in the past. I have been using it for 2 week and the print quality is great. I like the speed and it was really easy to set up. I turned it on, entered my wireless info on the touch screen, and it in a matter of minutes I was able to start printing. It took longer to unpack and take the tape/plastic off then it did to set up. With all ink printers I am always concerned about the amount of ink it uses because the ink ends up more expensive then the printer. So far, it doesn't appear to be a printer hog and the ink should last a while without getting replacements. So far I have printed several pictures, documents, and graphics and the ink levels have barely moved. Scanning and coping is a breeze. i haven't used the fax because I rarely fax anything but I imagine that works well too. I like the large capacity tray the best. My kids are always taking the paper out to draw and with my HP printers I was always running out of paper, but that problem doesn't exist with this printer. I also like how quiet it is, you can barely hear it printing. Overall, I have no issues with this printer. All the functions work really well, its very easy to use - the interface is great! I have always used HP printers but I would seriously consider this Canon if I were in the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive Machine with Useful Features I received the Canon Maxify MB5420 to use in exchange for my full and honest review of the device. I was very impressed and would recommend the printer for both home use and for small business use. I received this printer about two weeks ago. I took it to my office where I work for a very busy construction company. We have a ton of paperwork and use printers/scanners/copiers/fax machines every day, all day long. Some of the people who use the printers are not office types of people but Canon has made this printer very intuitive so everyone has been able to use it without difficulty. I was very impressed with all of the functions available on this device. In the past, we had to purchase additional trays or feeders for our printers or had to pay a much higher price. I have looked up the price for this printer and found it very reasonable considering the great quality and the functionality of the device. It is a little larger than some desk printers but it does not take up too much space or look too clumsy. It actually looks rather nice in my office and at my home. It has duplex (two sided) printing and has two cassettes that hold up to 500 sheets of paper in total so I don't have to keep loading new paper into it all of the time. The cassette that can hold envelopes, holds up to ten envelopes at a time. The cassettes can also hold photo paper, labels for printing, and up to legal size paper. There is a flat bed for scanning books or for scanning several originals together and there is also a document feeder which can scan 50 sheets of letter sized paper at a time. The automatic feeder can scan both sides of the originals in a single pass and also scans legal sized paper. I really like that it has an automatic document feeder for the scanner because I often need to scan several pages of a document but always have to lay the pages onto a scanner bed one page at a time and then flip them over. Now all I have to do is put my documents in the feeder and it automatically scans them, no more scanning a page at a time and flipping over in between! I think it is great that it also has the flat bed scanner because sometimes I need to scan items that cannot be put through an automatic feeder. It is the best of both types of scanning. The printer has many different settings to customize it for what you need. It can be used wirelessly, through ethernet or by USB. It took me about an hour to unpack and set up. I first tried setting it up on an older version of Windows (7) and it was taking too long so I stopped and set it up on a computer that is running Windows 10. The installation onto the computer using Windows 10 went much faster and once I had it completed I went back to the computer using Windows 7. It then went onto that computer a lot easier. I would suggest that if you are going to be sharing this printer with other devices and computers that you first start by setting it up on the newest, most updated operating system and then putting it onto the older operating systems next. When unpacking the printer and removing the orange pieces, do not rip them out or pull too hard, if you get the right angle they should just slide out pretty easily without much force or twisting. Another note is about loading the paper into the trays/cassettes. I used the quick guide which showed how to make the cassettes longer by holding a certain button and pulling the cassettes lengthwise (at first, it looks like paper will not fit into the cassettes) but when I put them back in with my paper loaded, I was unsure that I had them correct because the cassettes do not fit all the way back into the printer once they are loaded with letter or larger paper. That is okay, it is supposed to be that way. The cassettes do stick out when loaded with paper but not in a bad way. The tray where the printed or copied paper comes out pulls out over top of the cassettes so that you don't notice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, fast, effective and connects to all devices I received this printer for free for providing an open and honest review of the product. Here are my independent opinions below. A huge pro was that the installation was pretty easy. What really helped was the step-by-step instructions with clear pictures included. These pictures clearly marked (step 1, step 2, step 3, etc.) were a savior as I’m not really tech or equipment savvy. The included cartridges were mildly tricky to install in that they needed the correct placement and alignment and then a slight push to get them in right. One con was that connecting the printer via wireless to my laptop (a MacBook Air) did take a few tries. It didn’t work the first few times I tried to connect wirelessly. After about 4 attempts it finally worked. Another pro is the fast, high quality printing. Everything is crystal clear and the colors are vibrant. It’s also easy to print double sided and save paper this way. Another con is that the 2 printer trays sit a bit outside of the printer border (see attached pic), and this means the entire thing takes up a bit more space than I would like. In other words, the 2 printer trays sit about 2.5 inches from the body of the printer itself. Scanning things can be a bit confusing at first. You have to look at all the options and different ways of scanning such as: one sided, two sided, scan everything into one PDF or into multiple and separate PDFs, etc. It can be a bit overwhelming but once you understand all the functionality of the scanner feature it’s a breeze. I like having all the options such as what format I want to scan to, including everything scanned in a single document, PDF or picture, etc. The scanning goes really fast and the PDFs are great quality. The printer itself is rather quiet. I`ve had other printers that make such a racket when scanning or printing, but this Canon is rather quiet. Finally, I love that I can connect this printer to all my devices. I’ve connected it wireless to my laptop (Mac), my phone (iPhone) and my iPad. This process did take a while and I had to keep retrying a few times before the connections were finally established, but now that is set up and there’s no need to try again or troubleshoot anymore. Overall I recommend this printer for home or office use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Office Home Office (SOHO With Covid 19 forcing a lot of us to work from home, I needed a printer that can scan to email, and has decent printing capabilities. For me, I’ll be printing the kids worksheets as I’m using this for all of their remote school work and scanning their work. This printer meets all those needs. Setting up was a breeze. I’ve always used Canon products so I’m always partial because they never disappoint. For picture printing I use my Canon Pixma and not this printer. The scanning has been awesome with the ability to scan to multiple PDF by using the flatbed when you can’t use the Automatic Document Feeder right from the control panel. You can rotate from within the screen panel saving you the editing on the computer. Great printer, easy software and setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4-in-1 printer, great for home office As somebody who is moderately tech savvy, I found the Canon MAXIFY MB5420 fairly intuitive and easy to use. I work from home quite often and because there are many days that I am not in the office, it is super useful for me to have a wireless printer in my apartment to use as needed. Set Up: The set up manual included was pretty easy to follow. I was able to both a) set up the printer parts (ink, paper, etc.) b) configure the printer (connect to WiFi, hard wire into my computer, etc.) without any issues. There are also online demos included if you need a bit more of instruction on how to configure the printer. Printer/Scanner/Copier: Because I don`t have a home phone line in my apartment, the only functionality I did not get a chance to use was the fax. I loved the fact that I could print from my laptop AND my phone over WiFi - this was one of the most straightforward parts of the MAXIFY MB5420. In order to print on your phone, you need to download the Canon App which was very simple. Within a matter of seconds of clicking `print` either on my iPhone or laptop, my documents were printing. I found the time-to-print to be average compared to other printers in the marketplace. Using the scanner/copier was simple as well - I am required to sign documents quite often as part of my job and used this feature quite often to scan myself signed copies of contracts. Overall, I think that the Canon MAXIFY MB5420 is a great addition to either a home office or for somebody who works from home often. The 4-in-1 (printer, scanner, copier, fax) capabilities are straight forward and for the price are a great deal. I received this product in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Major Flaw Overall, I'm happy with the printer. It does a nice job scanning documents and pictures and does a good job printing documents. It does have one major flaw, however, It does not have a setting for printing in draft mode. The only options are high and standard. I am a writer and prefer to print my drafts in draft mode to save ink. If I had known this did not have a draft mode I would not have bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two paper sizes!! I received a free sample of this printer to review in exchange for my honest review. The printer is substantial and I appreciate that it will scan and print in both the 8 1/2 x 11 size and 8 1/2 x 14 (legal) size paper. This would be especially beneficial for a real estate or law business. It was pretty easy to prepare for the initial set up and was packaged well with many pieces of security tape, etc. The instructions to set up the Wi-Fi feature were comprehensive and easy to follow, as were the instructions to download the app on both an IOS and Android device (I had to set up both). My overall impression is that it is a quality printer and I would recommend it for both home office or small business use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer at a great price! I love this printer!!! Even though I was sent a free sample to use for this review this printer is FABULOUS!!! The canon MAXIFY mb5420 is a sturdy yet lightweight all-in-one home office printer with the capability to print out pictures as well. It holds lots of paper (2 trays of 250 sheets each, it faxes, scans, copies and prints as well. The automatic document feeder even scans both sides of the paper (if it is two-sided) at the same time which is AWESOME because it saves time, paper and money. As I work from home on a p/t basis a Notary Public this printer is a big plus for me!! Now I can notarize for the public and keep copies for my records as well. Plus being that this printer faxes I am now able to offer faxing (for a modest fee) as well. Assembly was quite simple, just a few things to slip into place and I was off and running! Printing is fast, and the output of my prints and/or copies is very clear and sharp. The best thing about this printer is that it is Wi-Fi capable...which I already have in my home anyway so all I had to do was set it up and by its being wireless I was able to eliminate the use of more wires, usb cables, etc. The Maxify exceeded my expectations because of the capacity of the amount of paper it holds and the fact that it can be hooked up very easily if you have WE-Fi access. But the best feature about this printer is that it can print from compatible Android devices. I use my mobile phone for everything (business as well as personal) so having the ability to print from my mobile phone is EXTREMELY an advantage to me. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this printer to my family, friends and co-workers who do work from home because for the reasonable price paid for this printer you get lots of great features and services in a compact printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Of The Line! I received the Canon Printer - MAXIFY MB5420 free of charge to give an honest review. The printer is amazing. Specs include: - Wireless & Mobile Printing (Color or Black/White) - Copy Machine - Fax Machine - Scanner - Touch Screen You`d think with all those features, it would be huge...Not at all. It`s a great size for everything it has, quiet and easy to assemble. PC and Mobile setup was a breeze. For mobile printing, you`ll need to download Canon`s printing app. It`s super easy to use. Documents and pictures come out great. I was very surprised at how clear my images printed. The touch screen feature could be a little bit better. I`m used to it now, but it is a little difficult to recognize finger prints. Just give it a hard press. Overall, this printer gets a 9/10. I definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Printer for Professionals! This printer was received in exchange for an honest review following its use. I have had this printer for over a week now and have used it multiple times. Overall, I feel that this is a great printer for someone who prints on a normal basis or a small business owner who works from home occasionally. When printing in black and white, the document is printed quite quickly. Color printing takes a bit longer dependant on how much color is present throughout the document. Of course, if you are printing a bunch of images the document will take longer to print than if you were printing some notes with a few highlighted lines of text. I did find that if you tend to turn the printer off after its use, it takes a about a minute's worth of time to warm up and print a document. Following the first print job, documents prints almost immediately after being sent to the printer. This printer is a bit larger than your normal home/personal printer. Like I said before, this would be a great printer for a writer or a small business owner. It offers two paper trays, easy wi-fi connectivity, and copying, scanning, and faxing functions. The touch screen display makes it easy to select whichever function you desire at the time. Setup for this product wasn't too bad. It did take a little longer than I expected since I do not have a disc drive on my Macbook, but Cannon has all their printer drivers available for download directly through their website. The test printing part of setup probably took the most time (close to 10 minutes), but the instructions that are provided were extremely straightforward. Installation of the cartridges was smooth sailing as well. I did find, though, that two of the cartridges required a little bit more force to get them to snap into place. Overall, I really like this printer and find it to be the best printer I have ever owned. I really like its size as it is bigger than your typical home office printer, but not so big that you feel like you need a bigger room. It's a moderate size, offering multiple functions and the ability to handle bigger jobs if necessary. It's efficient when printing in black and white and average speed when printing in color. The printer pulls paper through seamlessly and the ink dries almost instantly allowing for a highlighter to be used immediately without smudging - a huge bonus for me since I'm always highlighting! I recommend this printer and think it would be a great asset for any professional or family with multiple children and many school projects to print.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Machine Last Friday I received a free sample of the Cannon Maxify MG5420 printer in the mail, in exchange for me testing the product and writing an honest review. At first I thought, this printer is going to be way too big for my apartment. We have no place to put a full size all in one office printer in our two bedroom apartment. Sunday I opened the box and pulled the printer out. It definitely was larger than any home printer I had ever owned and looked like something I would see in a home office or even at my work place. On Monday evening, I plugged the printer in with one power cord, easily and quickly installed the four ink cartridges, loaded paper in both trays and then followed the onscreen/touch screen commands to finish initialization of the all in one printer. Everything was done in about 20 minutes. It took me another five minutes to connect my iPhone 6S to the printer via wifi and I was soon laying on the couch printing worksheets for my wife, who homeschooles our son. I also pulled up several emails with attachments and quickly printed these documents. I brought up some photos from my phone and printed them and I found some cool photos of the 2016 El Camino and printed them right from my phone to the printer for my son. I am amazed at the speed and simplicity of this awesome printer. Super easy to set up and it prints lighting fast. Color and B/W prints look much better than the lazer copies I normally print at my office. It makes copies very easily and can also scan documents and send to emails that you can easily enter the address for. You can also scan to a USB drive which is nice and convenient. One of the most important things to me was of course the cost of the replacement ink cartridges. It's been years since I've had a home printer so my knowledge of how much they would cost was pure ignorance. I looked them up and felt like the prices were very average based on the estimated quality of prints Cannon boasts these cartridges will print. I then asked a coworker what his home printer cartridges cost and how many prints he normally gets and that made me feel like Cannon has their cartridges for the Maxify MG5420 priced very well. The only complaint I have or improvement I'd love to see take place is the ability to print, copy, or scan 11"x17" prints. If it could produce and support this size of print, I'd be completely sold on this machine. Nevertheless, my wife is totally in love with it and thinks it's a fantastic product. I had originally told my father-in-law that I had a new printer to give to him as he works out of a home office and it would be perfect for him. Now, I'm not so sure he's going to get it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stopped printing black After 3 months this printer stopped printing black. No text, no outlines (uses cyan, nothing. Cleaned print heads, deep cleaned, power cycled, switched paper type, and it will work for 2 prints and stop again. I was a longtime Canon customer, but no more. I should not have to continually so steps and waste ink to make my printer print properly. I must add we only used Canon OEM ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Topnotch Duplex Printing and Speed This printer is incredibly easy to set up and use upon the first try! It prints incredibly fast and the paper feed pulls each page straight (without jamming). The latter being an issue on many machines I`ve used in the past. I should mention that I was offered a free sample to use in exchange for my unbiased review. My favorite feature of the Canon Maxify MB5420 is the duplex printing option. It was completely seamless and printed so professionally. Also, I have printed over a hundred pages with hardly any ink being used, so the yield is truly high. Additionally, the look of the printer is very sleek. It is compact, black, and modern. Overall, I am overjoyed with the quality, quickness, design, and functionality of this printer. I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I received a free sample of this Canon printer to review and so far I have loved it. The speed of the printing is quick and the quality is great! I have printed a couple of photos and the quality is better than with past printers I have used. I really like that the paper capacity is 500 since opening a pack of paper and not being able to fit it all in the printer at once can be inconvenient at my home. I love all of the features it has available, and how it meets my needs. As a student I need the scanning, faxing and printing capabilities, as a parent with a child in school it is nice to be able to print directly from my laptop through the wifi connection, as a homemaker it is nice to be able to scan recipes to friends or print them off quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maximize your printing with the Maxify I received a free sample of this printer to review. This is one of the better small office multifunction printers I have came across. I`ve worked for a small company for a number of years now. Our print volume doesnt justify buying one of those big, super expensive multifunction printers. But we still print a lot (couple thousand pages a month). Print quality is above average (we printed a couple hundred photo flyers), print speed is great, very easy to set up as long as you have a person in your office that at least knows how to install a printer. It also has just as many features as the super expensive ones. As far as improvements, I would like to see the cost of ink reduced. Its pretty much in line with the rest of the printers in its class...but still annoying. I would also like to see the ink be used more efficiently, which I understand is difficult. Both issues kinda factor in with the cost of doing business. I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great smartphone connectivity. I received a free Canon Maxify MB5420 Wi-Fi Printer to review. The Canon Maxify MB5420 is a multi-function all-in-one small office ink printer. It has wireless connectivity, multi volume print and copy, scan and fax functionality. PROS: 1) As a small business owner, cost per page of printing is important. The machine promises to deliver lower cost per print. 2) Deduct cost in energy consumption. The printer LCD shuts off during limited printing activity. 3) The internal software does self-check when several color prints are produced. The color toner realigns and stops for printer function to do self-checks. 4) There are two 250-page paper trays for a total of 500 sheet capacity at one given time. 5) The 3.5-inch touch screen LCD screen has a simplified display, that is direct to the point and uncomplicated. Copy, Fax, Scan, Custom profiles, Ink status, Wi-Fi and Paper status laid out in plain view. The Front Control panel looks and functions are complicated and laid out on the front. 6) Great phone to printer connectivity using the cannon appease in printing from documents and photos from my android phone. Ability to send multiple print copies of documents to printer from smart phone using the Canon APP. 7) Ability to preview print on LCD screen. 8) Clear Black and White prints. CONS: 1) Bigger and bulkier printer than expected. The dimensions are 18"X 13.5"X 25". 25 inches in the front when paper tray is extended. Not so compact for desk or small office. It would be better if the paper trays were on the side so it would not be protruding in the front. 2) Not so easy to setup, unpack and install. It took me more than 2 hours to navigate to have the printer ready. Power cord polarity not marked. Orange protector inside printer cassette difficult to remove. CD install included did not work."MSetup64.exe has stopped working. Windows will close program." I had to go online for instruction. A youtube interactive link with a person instructing and talking to the newbie how to setup would be great. I can access the instructions on my smartphone android phone or laptop and pause when needed. I did not want to break the machine on my first day. Unpacking and installing the equipment is not as intuitive and simple as it appears. Tutorial videos are great especially where technical support is not readily available. 3) Cost of printing. What is the average savings that I generate by using the machine? in terms of energy consumption (there is no energy rating such as the number of dollars spent on the hours used since the machine has to be constantly on even on idle mode), cost per print in color or black and white. I had to look it up in the web as 1.5 cents for monochrome paper and 7.1 cents per color paper. How is this compared to other competitors? For me, low cost per print is important. 4) Expanded printing capacity is more a function of the printer cassette than of the printer itself. HP and EPSON brands have XL toners. Does the Cannon XL cassette hold more ink than HP or EPSON since there is no standard? 5) The two tray paper capacity is useless if the printer does not automatically pick the paper on the second tray if the first tray is empty. The printer goes on error mode when the first tray is empty even if the second tray is full. The high volume single printing capacity is based on the paper on the first tray and not on the available paper on both trays. 6)No Wi-Fi direct, I had to learn to install the Cannon App for Gmail and home page. 7)Photo quality is not so high compared to same photo printed on my current HP printer. 8) Canon 2200XL Ink Cartridges not available in Costco. 9) Limited photo editing on Canon App. Crop function just allow the user move the photo side to side. The user cannot zoom to a particular spot. Overall, the printer is a good multi-functional printer especially when using smartphone applications and connectivity. Smartphones has become essential in everyday life and business and printer-smartphone connectivity is crucial.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent printer! I first must state that I received a free sample of this printer to review. The printer was easy to put together and install. It is very fast and quiet while it is running compared to others that I have had. One of the features that I like is that you can print from your phone with a free app on the Apple phone. It has the capability to fax, scan, print and copy in color. It is like a full printer but fits in a small space. I have used all the different features and the print quality is great. I priced the refill ink cartridges and found them to be less expensive than other printers that I have used. This printer meets all of my expectations since it is easy to use and user friendly. I will recommend this printer to all my friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Printer I've personally used I really like this Printer for the most part, but there was some room for improvement for sure. I will say that I was mailed a free printer to test out and use, for this review, but assure you my review is legit and real. There's several things it does great. My fave is the speed of printing, its the fastest printer I've ever used. There was putting together of parts and it took up some time and was a bit annoying, but it was pretty easy overall. It definitely met what i expected, and as i said earlier, was the most high quality printer I've personally used, due to the speed and accuracy of the printing and the wifi capability. One thing that i'd like improved is more ease of how to set up the printer to be the main printer in my air printing computer capability. There wasn't clear instructions on how to delete the old printer. So now I have 2 printers in there and always have to toggle to this new one. It's not ideal. I'd for sure recommend this to anyone that needs a fast and high quality printer. Overall, I'd say this printer deserves a high star rating and is ideal for home and business use too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the World We Live In! I received a free Canon Maxify MB5420 sample printer in exchange for writing a review for the product. Overall, I was very happy with the product! The printer itself prints fast and prints well. The ink cartridges are small, and not bulky, like most office cartridges I deal with. My favorite feature is that it has AirDrop; meaning you can use the printer wirelessly! As long as it is connected to the same Wifi as your device (smartphone or tablet), one can send anything to print directly from your device to the specific printer mentioned (my, how far we have come with technology)! You can also plug it in via USB, or ethernet and print as well. It was quite easy to assemble, only taking about 15 minutes in total (and that is with reading instructions); the only difficulty I ran into was inserting the cartridges with the initial set up, because I did not have it pushed in all the way. However, a little notice on the screen popped up, informing me that it was not properly placed. The screen on the front is touch screen. The product itself was slightly heavy (weight could be improved). Another feature I did not see that I would like it to have is a "sleep mode/energy saver mode." The only feature I was not a fan of (besides the weight), was that the adjustable tray that holds the paper has to protrude out, and not slide back into place. I fear that if people hit into that, they may damage their printer in the future. Regardless, the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to this product, and bottom line: I`m recommending to family and friends for the fast, well done printing job, and AirDrop feature!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wireless printer! I received a free sample in exchange for writing a review. This printer was fairly easy to set up. Having to expand the tray for the paper to fit was a little confusing. The ink cartridges were super easy to install. I've never had a photo printing printer, so I thought this was cool to be able to print on. I printed a vacation pic straight from my phone! Love the wireless component. This will also make it easy for my kids to print out things needed for college classes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from won't print in black ink if color ink is empty since you won't find this out until it's too late, i'll just let you know that when you run out of color ink, the black in won't print either. nice stab in the back, canon!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible choice After bad experiences with less expensive printers, I decided to spend a bit more money for my home all-in-one unit and get something better. Canon's reputation as a printer manufacturer was good, the price was competitive so I thought I'd made a good decision. Well, that proved false. The printer works well wirelessly and scan quality is adequate, and when it prints well, it prints well. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen as often as it should. Most of the time there are smudges, lines, or other marks that simply shouldn't be there. It frequently grabs two sheets of paper at a time and often prints part of the page on one sheet, the rest on the other. The colors are completely off most of the time and it is inconsistent, that is, I can print the same document twice and get entirely different colors. This printer frequently goes into some sort of initialization mode or head cleaning or some such when you try to print, which can take several minutes before printing starts. The user interface for scanning (from the computer is without question the worst I have ever seen. If you want to change the folder to scan to, I've counted around eight to ten clicks to scan where it should be about two or three at most. You have to go through several windows when it could easily be done on one. Also, I was dumbfounded the first time I scanned when the scanner automatically appended the date and a sequence number to the file. This is a normal function/feature on most scanners, however I don't need it. When I couldn't find how to disable the feature (I looked everywhere for a checkbox to turn it off), I finally called tech support, they said there was no way to turn it off and I "just need to go in an manually change the file name to erase the date and sequence." So I now have to scan, then go and modify the file name. I've had this printer for less than two years and have been disappointed in it pretty much from the get-go. When printing got worse, I tried to find how to get it repaired, but the website was useless and I was told that it was out of warranty so they would not do repairs. One other thing, this thing guzzles ink. Expensive to operate. I'm shopping for a new printer, not Canon... ever again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aight A decent fast-paced printer overall. This printer does jam easily depending on the type of paper you use and wish it included edge-to-edge printing, but over all a decent printer for medium-sized work flow for your print jobs.
