Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to RP This camera is wonderful. As per my needs, it's perfect. I has all I wanted to do with a digital camera. It's not so heavy. Not long ago I switch to the R version, but, after a few months, or even weeks, I switched back to RP. A real photographer my no find all the features a photographer may use, for me is perfect and beyond. I hate when I read reviews when people make a complaint abouth this camera. They may complaint because they could be upset with something else. My BIG BIG BIG wish (Canon please listen to me is for Canon to make a battery grip for such camera. I don't mean the one alreaday in the market (Grip Holder). I mean the battery grip in orther to put insert to LP-E17 batteries to extend battery life. FYI: I currently have the Nikon Deluxe Digital SLR Camera shoulder bag. I am able to fit in such bag my EOS RP (with extension grip). RF 24-105 lens with hood. 430EX III RT Speedlight. Oben ball head BE-117, Oben Carbon Fiber table top tripod CTT-1000. Everything fits perfect and more importantly, what is inside does not move, this fact in such a way protects my gear. I hope this review (a little lengthy) is useful to you. Have a nice day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from From a YouTubers perspective I wish I could say that this camera is more than a full frame M50, but that's precisely what it is. Thats not a bad thing! With the ability to use RF lenses and an inexpensive adapter to use EF lenses, combined with better low light performance and better codex, it is a great option for anyone trying to make YouTube videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Jackpot Camera I've owned this camera for 3 months and have used it extensively throughout this time period. I predict the EOS RP will become a Canon classic model and one of their best selling products ever. Here's my reasoning. Having owned a multitude of Canon cameras, including an EOS 5D MK III, I can emphatically state that this camera takes the best pictures of any other camera I have in my inventory. I specifically chose the RP over the R model for two primary reasons. First, the programmable mode dial is a very important feature for me, as I prefer manual selection dial usage during my shoots. Second, the cost differential supported the RP's selection because the nuance differences in capabilities more that justified it's choice. The mirrorless feature makes this camera small, compact, and tough. As a traveler, I appreciate its size when packing for a trip, although I do take a variety of lenses with me. The adapter that came with the camera is a godsend as I'm able to use all my EF and EF-S lenses for any shot settings. The Canon company hit a home run with that adapter addition. The full frame capability was the final factor in selecting this camera as a new purchase. Although I previously owned a 5D MKIII, I know the RP takes better pictures. Perhaps that's due to the updated technology, but the difference is noticeable. I'll leave the technical aspects for others to describe, as I don't care to analyze or pontificate upon those features. I will say this camera is extremely simple to use, if you are familiar with all the buttons. Canon enthusiasts will easily transition into this device as its operation is very similar to other Canon cameras. While some may describe it as an entry level full frame camera, I found it to be much more. It is definitely a professional camera for those who work at that level. This is an outstanding camera for anyone no matter your expertise. If this is your first camera or you are new to photography read your technical manual and then order one of the pro photographer's books for the EOS RP. The pro book for this camera will be out in August 2019. I cannot say enough positive things about this product. It is a spectacular device that produces extraordinary pictures. For all the men, buy the extended grip as we need it to properly hold and balance the camera. I highly, highly, highly recommend the EOS RP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry level full frame camera I purchased this a month ago... got around 3k photos. Love it. I am using the camera with a 16-35mm 2.8L II lens. Beautiful photos and fast focus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry-level full-frame cam I love this camera. When the R hit the market, I got sort of sad beacause I had no money to papy for it. Hopefully the RP came. I like the camera, pictures taken with it are great. I don't like the fact Camera RAW does not support this camera, yet. I hope it will shortly. In the mean time I convert the photos to TIF using DPP. Then I finish working with the files using Photoshop. Battery life is adecuate (for me, it is not a big concern though. I carry extra full-charged batteries in my pocket. Overall I think Canon did a great job with the entry-level full-frame camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great camera I have a Canon Rebel t-5 that I really like then I bought myself the EOS RP love at first click. Pictures are so crisp and the camera is so easy to use.. Just one down side lens just for the RP are so few and expensive so I was really glad it came with the adapter to use the same lens as my rebel which I have several different ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Light, easy and professional. It is great! Perfect for people who just start their photography and want to have a full frame camera. I love this screen, it is so amazing especially the drag to move focus point function. Considered of its price, it is absolutely the best and easiest to start full frame camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Than An Entry Level Camera I purchased the EOS RP when it first became available along with the RF 24-105mm f/4 IS USM lens. Please note that I also own the 5D Mark IV, 6D Mark II and 7D Mark II. I wanted the RP and RF 24-105 lens as a walk-around and travel kit because of it's light weight and compact size. My purchase also included the grip extender and EF-RF lens adapter as an introductory offer. Build quality, ease of use and handling are all typical Canon quality. I have large hands and the grip extender really helps make the camera very comfortable to use. The EF-RF lens adapter allows me to use all of my Canon EF lenses without any loss in functionality. Image quality (stills) is outstanding and the RP offers many features that you typically would not find in an entry level camera. I have not used any of the video features because I'm primarily a stills shooter, but I think the video features offered are more than enough for most except those who make a living from video. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and highly recommend the RP, especially for those looking for a quality camera at a really great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feature set for the price! I have had a bunch of Canon DSLRS but this is my first jump into full frame. Coming from the 70D I was super excited to have the extra depth that comes from full frame and the extended low light capabilities. The move to focus on the back of the screen while looking through the view finder is genius. Not a sport photography camera (max 5fps and the lack of 1080P at 24FPS with video leaves me scratching my head why Canon has to always bring out the cripple police. Not to mention leaving out DPAF with 4K but it’s nice to at least have the option since I know this is entry level. I have it paired with the 24-105L and couldn’t be happier. I love the extra data that you get with the electronic viewfinder and you don’t have to guess how the picture will turn out. The mirrorless approach is definitely here to stay. One downside with the EVF is that it is hard to see with sunglasses which I never had before. The focus detection point on the eye makes me never want to go back. This thing also eats batteries but I love the ergonomics (I hate huge cameras) and the weight. Overall these cameras are going to sell like crazy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon RP first impressions This arrived February 28 so I have had it only a few days. I'm upgrading from the EOS 80D. I examined the R in a camera store and decided it was too much change. There are plenty of new things here, but many of them are intuitive or will take a very short time to learn. Software is driving me crazy. I am used to Adobe's DNG converter and it is just not there for the RP. Help. I liked taking those files into Photoshop and making adjustments on the way in. TIFF files just don't do the same thing. I'm sure I could learn DPP, but I don't really want to spend that much time with it. I exchanged the adapter for the one with the adjustment ring and some more $. I like that feature, but am still getting used to pushing the shutter button half way down to do the adjusting. Definitely a two hand operation. Had a surprise when I went to download photos. Some adapters from elsewhere solved the connector problem. About the shutter half way down---I have taken a couple of unexpected movies. The electronic view finder is great! Digic 8 seems to do wonders for my older lenses and I love the lens that I bought with the camera (just have to remember to change from full frame in the menu when the older lenses are installed or you get a strange picture (It actually includes the inside of the adapter). There are features such as wi-fi which I will probably never use. I still have a lot to learn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Grate Camera For Anyone A camera is not the deciding factor on how good whatever you capture will turn out. The person holding it dose. You can take grate photos and videos with any camera now days. This camera checks the boxes of professionalism with a consumer price. The RP being a full frame camera opens up the options on its performance and will make it more appealing for videographers and photographers alike. Is it a good camera? Yes. Could it have been better? Of Corse. This camera will not blow your socks off. But if you know what you are doing or you want to learn what to do, this camera will preform just as well as any other camera that you could get for under a grand. I like it, it fits and feels well. Yes I do recommend this camera

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High speed continuous This camera has a significant flaw. Whilst it “has” high speed continuous , it WILL NOT shoot high speed continuous if you plan to use a speedlight (even though you select high speed continuous. It will give you approximately 1 FPS if you photograph using an attached speedlight. It’s stated using a flash will “lower” the frame speed, but I believe it’s drastically underemphasized as to how SLOW it truly is. I do macro photography and flashes are paramount. Other then that, the camera is effective. I do not recommend this camera for any macro photographers or anyone planning to use it with a speedlight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As photographer on budget it's a must have! Amazing camera! Finally I've upgraded my APS-C 80D to a Fullframe mirrorless for an affordable price. Pros: - Eyetracking - EVF - Fullframe > 1k dollars - Focus Peaking Cons: - Poor battery - no Zebra - 4k cropped and with terrible auto focus - no Image Stabilization Overall a very good camera for photography but not at all for videomakers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bare-bones beast for professional creatives While this camera is not spec heavy, it's exactly what most need. As a working professional photographer & videographer, the RP is a bare-bones solid performing camera that has never let me down. It's compact, reliable, has incredible photo quality, and the HD video up-resd to 4k is beautiful. I have 2 RPs as my workhorse bodies, and i don't see any point in upgrading in the next 3-5 years. My only gripe is that they haven't released a battery grip for it, but with the placement of SD card, i can understand why.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best The Canon Eos Rp checks all the boxes for me. Size is perfect and fits my hand like a glove. I do not do videos so that feature is seldom used but as a still camera is outstanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like the RP Great affordable full frame mirrorless camera. I had a 6Dmkii that I didn't love and I feel like this solves most of those issues I had with it. Wish the sensor were a little more robust and that the battery lasted longer but at just a touch over $800 the performance is more than reasonable. I've primarily been shooting adapted EF glass and that works quite well too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stepping up Before this Great camera i was using an XSI 450. I was looking to improve low light situations and better Photo quality with full frame body which the EOS RP has done exceptionally. With lens adapter and the R 24-105 lens it is very versatile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Travel Camera I bought this camera to upgrade the technology to a mirrorless camera. I have a Canon 6D camera and I felt as if I didn't downgrade in functionality because this camera had all the functionality and then some. This camera came with the 24-105 lens. My Canon 6D had GPS receiver built in to geotag the images. The RP didn't have this functionality so I bought a Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 because I like to geotag all my photos. The receiver goes on the hot shoe and it is very easy to set up. It worked very well. The flip out screen is definitely a game changer and that was another main reason to buy the camera. I took some pictures with the Mode Dial set to "Scene Intelligent Auto" and found the pictures came out really good. I just left the dial there, concentrating on composing the shoot. It is a great travel camera as it is small and light. I brought with me on a bike tour of Paris. In my opinion it is the best bank for the buck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value and Quality The Canon RP is my first full frame camera and my first canon camera. The first thing I noticed is the beautiful colors. I use the camera to photograph friends, family, wildlife, and landscapes. It’s not the fastest but it makes sense at this price point. The kit lens is good enough to get excellent quality images. I picked the RP over the R6 because it is lighter. As soon as my budget permits, I will be upgrading to the r8 because it’s light too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera I have had the Canon RP for about 18 months and with the T6i find myself doing a lot of landscape and astro photography. I find myself using the RP more frequently and currently planning on getting your Egyptian sun god Ra for more astro work. Both the RP and T6i are excellent cameras for astrophotography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from more cons than pros Purchased this couple of months ago and recently on trip used it exclusively for photos. Found the high speed shots was seriously lacking and worthless. I found the menus to be non-intuitive and hard to "set" the camera for what to do. Another very annoying feature was after setting to take raw and jpg photos, to discover when loading photos onto computer that after few shots, reverted back to jpg only shots

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry level camera I knew what I was getting going into with this purchase. I was looking for an entry level, full frame camera that had a good set of lenses that I could grow into with better camera bodies down-the-line. The rp fit this bill perfectly. I will continue to use my other systems for sports and high speed shooting. But I am enjoying the rp for general photography. The ability to easily pack the rp body, an rf50f1.8, and F4 L series 24-105 and 70-200 zoom lenses in only a little more space than my M43 gear is a huge bonus. The camera body is straightforward and easy to use. The Jpeg images are great out of camera, and there is some flexibility in the raw files, which is not very important to me, as I don't do a lot of post processing, but I can push it a little bit when I need to. I wish the 4k video wasn't intentionally crippled with contrast detect focus. I am used to that using M43, although the better models have phase detect, so I can work with it pretty well, and the Dual pixel system with 1080 works very well. Otherwise not much to criticize here. It would be great if the camera had ibis, and I wish it had 1 or 2 more buttons on it that could be programmed ( I miss a dedicated iso button, but use the lens control ring for that). I can live with the frame rate for what I am using the camera for. This would absolutely be a 5 star rating if the 4K video focus were better and there were a few more direct controls. But I understand it's an entry level camera built to a price point, and I'm glad there are now a number of inexpensive lenses that people could purchase to keep the price down.. In my case I sacrificed a little bit of performance out of the body to be able to purchase the better L-series glass for the camera, it was a wise trade off for me. Overall, for an advanced enthusiast like myself, I am very satisfied with this camera. In a few years I will look forward to upgrading to a higher performing body, but it suits my needs very well at this point. I would highly recommend anybody looking to get into full frame for a reasonable price to look at an RP body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Pictures from this small camera I like the RP’s small size and easy access to all functions. Easy transition from my 70D I purchased the RP with the 24-105 mm f4 lens. Photos are sharp at all focal lengths using this zoom lens. I am disappointed that it does not have a faster FPS. I use the optional adapter for my EF lenses. I have had no issues using these lenses with this camera. Battery life is shorter than on my 70D Overall I am very pleased with the RP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was skeptical after reading reviews. It’s been about a year since I moved to mirrorless. I owned a t7i and 6D. Loved the color profiles of canon so I decided to stick with the brand. I was between the RP and R. While the R is more suitable for my niche’, I found the RP for a steal. I absolutely fell in love with it. I’m getting into videography more as the time goes by and decided my next upgrade I’m going big with the R5C. While the R5C is a completely different beast of a hybrid. I still see myself using my RP daily. My camera is always attached to my neck literally so the RP is perfect size to use for a second body. For the price, you can’t lose. With some knowledge behind the RP you can definitely produce some professional grade photos. I just had my work published in Canvas Rebel with the help of the critically acclaimed underdog. I’m not sure if the image post with the information attached but if you’re interested in the iso, shutter speed etc. I’m on IG @bdlayers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not happy with Canon I got this a month ago for wildlife and astrophotography. I think it’s good for portraits and other still shots. When shooting single or continuous, you can’t stay or even see your subject due to the EVF stuttering. I can’t believe Canon could sell the camera this way. I don’t know if the R is the same way, if not, I would have bought it even though higher priced. Also, the battery life is terrible and of course they are expensive. This is my 3rd Canon. Not sure if it will be my last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera Love the RP. It performs much better than I expected. My only complaint is the battery life could be better and the shutter actuation speed leaves a lot to be desired when shooting sports or wildlife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best option for a transition to mirror less camera It’s been almost 2 years that I work with this camera. My EF lenses worked well with the adapter. I get very sharp images. I do Family photography, and it is fast enough to capture kids in movement. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value! I bought this little gem just over a year ago along with the RF 35mm f/1.8 lens and I have been beyond pleased with it. I purchased it as a second body, my primary being a 7d Mark ii. I have been beyond pleased. It fits nicely in my camera bag with the 35mm. I've also used it frequently with the EF adapter and my EF 100mm f/2.8L macro and my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens with great results. I now only use my 7d Mark ii for birding/wildlife. For pretty much anything else, especially macro, the RP has become my go to. It's not fast, but for macro, landscape and some portraiture it's exactly what I needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Camera - but disappointing. Not "bullet-proof" Plusses: Use of legacy EOS L-series and other EF lenses with adapter. Full frame imager. Minuses: Less robust build quality to previous DSLR generations. Dead pixels. Poor internal surge protection when using AC adaptor for webcam (fried my camera and it no longer works). Cost of repair higher than value of a 3 year old camera. I also own an "R" model and was also sorely disappointed with it, too. Vertical line in the center of the imager required replacement. Repair cost 60% of purchasing a new one. Early adopting of technology not advised. Imagine the newer models (2022/23) better than this early generation.

My BIG BIG BIG wish (Canon please listen to me) is for Canon to make a battery grip for such camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Hiking Camera. The perfect hiking camera. Camera is light, handles well. Relatively easy to use. The pictures are beautiful. I’ve owned several cameras, for me I’ve never owned one that does a better job while hiking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First full frame camera I’ve had this camera for about a month now, I’m enjoying it a lot my first ever camera was a canon Rebel T7, then I got a EOS R10 was happy with it but didn’t feel it was for me, so I sold the R10 and got a Sony A6400 liked the camera as well but still didn’t feel like it was the right camera, so sold that as well eventually I saw the RP I know it’s older than the R10 but it was full frame camera and that’s what I was honestly looking for and it was still affordable, I take pictures for my church and I’ve used all 3 cameras and I’m liking the RP the most out of all of them

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Than The Sum of It's Specs! I’ve had a couple hours to play around with the RP and thought I’d give some of my initial observations while they are fresh. Conclusion: The short version is simply that this is a well built, good performing, FF at a phenomenal price-point. The RP is simple enough for new users to grow into, and Spec’d out enough for pro-sumers or vocational photographers to possibly find worthy of their time and dime. The form factor is also a perfect size for travel and low-key photography with pancakes or smaller primes, and with the EG-1 extender, large enough to balance big glass. For my actual first impressions read on... I’ll try to keep these in a logical order, but felt first impressions vs. cognitive prowess would be a better tac! ? First off, the EG-1 grip extender is a must. My first thought, was “wow this camera is small!” I personally like a little heft to my cameras (I’m a bigger guy and have found it helpful with larger lens combos. My second impression was “wow this is light!”, though I wouldn’t say too light. The first thing I did was put on the grip extender and it added both the perfect amount of extra length and the weight I was missing. Well done Canon! This extender really turned this MILC into a completely different camera for me while still offering the flexibility of a much smaller footprint for travel, and a fairly incognito urban/street solution. My next impression was that this camera is very well made. Though plastic, it is not cheap in touch or actuality, and while some reviews led me to be somewhat concerned that I would need to be gingerly in my handling, I have no doubts the construction will hold up well. The tilt-axis screen has a strong housing, none of the buttons or dials feel sloppy, or soft, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the weather sealing is also better than expected. Speaking of better than expected, the battery life is not TOO atrocious. Is it a Sony-all-day, fire-and-forget level? No. But I was able to spend about 5 hours shooting, testing settings, and customizing the camera with the back screen on 99% of the time and still had battery life left (I replaced it when it began flashing red). Next test will be a good all day field shoot. One of the possible plusses to the smaller battery size would be the possibility of a very low profile battery grip. This would be an outstanding and still relatively small footprint solution that might further this camera’s reputation for being “more than the sum of it’s specs”. The handling is altogether outstanding. I had forgotten how good Canon’s are to hold, all the controls seem to be in the perfect place, and just… more intuitive than either Nikon or Olympus. I would have liked the rear dial to be a tad larger, but am thankful it’s there and would also like to see 1 or 2 more customizable buttons like Oly and Sony in future releases. The rear thumb rest and release button are both perfect for my hand and aside from not having the on/off switch next to the release, prefer the ergonomics over other systems I’ve used. The one aspect I could not figure out how to change was the primary uses of the front and rear dials. I swapped them for Tv & Av, but would like to see them customizable in other areas such as menu/tab selection options etc. I always seem to be favoring the wrong dial. I also truly appreciate the small refinements Canon has made to it’s user interface, such as the dial icon that appears over the selected control option (ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, ect.). Autofocus is sufficiently swift for my needs and even the 4-5 fps continuous feels quicker than I was expecting (especially coming from 10+). I do miss the customizable countdown times I could configure in my Oly, but having touch-screen shutter release and multiple exposures in countdown was a nice surprise. Face detection doesn’t seem to keep up quite as well as I’d like, but my kids are pretty fast and YMMV with different lens combos. Concerning the EF 24-105 3.5-5.6, I again was surprised at how well built it is for a kit lens. It’s size combined with the EF > RF converter is not overbearing and it is plenty sharp for my personal needs. I’d again like to see a customizable function button on all Canon future lenses… the customizable dial on the RF’s will be great for ISO when I pull the trigger on one. So there are some of initial thoughts for anyone in the same boat. I really am surprised that I didn’t pick up a used A7II or something similar, but in the end with all elements combined this was the best choice that fit my needs. I once sold a Chevy Avalanche that was brand new and had every bell and whistle on it because pf it’s almost surreal complexity of turning on the AC, I quickly sold it for an F150 with a killer 4x4 setup and a simple instrument layout. I would liken my overall experience with the RP to this… I simply love shooting with this camera!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera for Small Product Photography and 360 Spins I purchased this camera for small product stills and 360 spins along with the Canon 24-105 F4-7.1 lens. I've been very happy with this combination - it was easy to get up-to-speed and works very well in a tethered configuration. Our customers compliment us regularly on the quality of our product photos.
