The defender for the pro 11 has a space on the side that flips up to charge the apple pencil. I do not use the pencil and wish there was an option to purchase the case without the pencil flap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ok I usually love otter box products but was a little disappointed in this one. My Apple Pencil doesn’t work at all with it and it has also slowed the touch screen response time. Other than those two things it’s still protects my device like I expected.

Before we had the defender boxes for the iPad Air 2 and ther´re all still like new... the iPads :) I allways also buy commuter or defender boxes for our iPhones. For me, there is no compromise... just otter-boxes!

It's good because it's strong and it's a little heavy but it's not a big problem because it's mostly used at home. I'd like to recommend it to someone else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sigh... I understand the poor reviews now. I have bought ONLY Otterbox Defender cases for all of my iPhones and iPads. Let me tell you, they took a BEATING: Cartwheeling down a parking lot, accidentally being thrown (don’t ask), and just so much abuse. The devices, Swear to God, NEVER cracked and when I decided to sell them (I always buy the i device at the same time as the OtterBox Defender and use it IMMEDIATELY), I was able to sell in “like-new” condition. Otterbox IS THAT GOOD. So here I now have the 11.5 iPad Pro (which is supposedly the last device Apple says they’ll be making besides the 12 which is identical except in dimensions), and no bad review was going to deter me from a Defender from this iPad. All of that being said.... 2 things I’m very frustrated with... 1) Extremely difficult to pop the case lid open to use the iPad. 2) The stand either makes the iPad way too low or much too erect. It stands up 99% when propped up. Never had such severe angles on any of the other Otterbox stands before. Who let this new designer in? You DON’T fix what ISN’T broken. :-| Otherwise, do I recommend this case? 100% if you intend to keep your iPad forever, at least for now. Very protective as you would expect… Better than insurance. Just inconvenient physical design.

They are rugged and can take drops without damaging your device. The screen protector does not fit right on the screen and you have to push a little harder with your finger on the screen. The case is also very pricey.

Opening The pencil cover makes the whole right side come apart the charger door doesn’t open when in case and it is Very hard to get the iPad out of hard plastic case. I own the 12” pro Otterbox Defender case & its much better quality the the new case. Product not the quality Totally not what I expected from otterbox very dissatisfied.

I own an iPhone XS on which I put a Strada OtterBox, it’s the fourth from the iPhone 6+ on which we could put two credit card and flop it to keep the phone at 75°, and now only one credit card and no reading position.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great protection for my new iPad pro This is the second time I purchased this product, the first time for our iPad Air and this time for my new iPad Pro. It offers great protection including on the screen. I couldn’t find any other product that protects as well. Only two things prevented a 5 star rating. First, the product took forever to arrive after order. Second, the stand on the iPad air’s cover broke pretty quickly after we bought it so we can no longer use it to prop up the iPad for easy viewing.

Received the product and went about installling it. Easy job, that’s when I realised the plastic screen protector isn’t responsive enough. I mainly use my iPad Pro for gaming, with the built in plastic screen protector there is noticeable unresponsiveness when I’m tapping away at the screen. This flaw meant I could keep the case on my iPad Pro.

The face recognition and touch pad are to sensitive so with the screen protector, I am unable to use the iPad.

I’ve had my case for about a week and so far I’m very pleased. My only complaint is sometimes the screen is not as sensitive as with out it. It is heavier, but I know it’s protected and I’m happy. My iPad was so slick without it and I was so afraid I would drop it!

I bought OtterBox the day they launched since then kids are enjoying their new iPad. So far cover is solving the purpose as kids already dropped iPad twice but no scratch on iPad :) As always I love OtterBox

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OtterBox defender case new iPad 11 inch & 1 issue Date 2019 year The OtterBox defender case fits the iPad 11 inch nice what fits well it has a Front cover that covers the front Glass and can be removed and used as a holder for the iPad , The case itself is fully enclosed with the screen protector and wrapped in rubber. We’ve use the defender series since the iPad air two and thy have saved the device many time over bottom line it works and it helps it from not being damaged . Hopefully an update will be coming soon But currently there is one problem widely known that when you put the new iPad 11 or the 12 inch the newest one out 2019 year currently your finger sensitivity is having a problem with the touch screen and the screen protector. We wrote iPad Apple and ask them if they’ll be an update coming out soon to adjust or fix this issue. They had forwarded the information we have not heard back from them yet. We wrote a letter and explain the issue and hopefully they’ll be some resolution to this soon . We are keeping the iPad in the OtterBox defender case and use it with the slight issue you have to hold the iPad a certain way and it responds correctly to your finger touches so were using the case and it works great other than the issu we stayed. Thank you OtterBox for making the defender case year after year with the new models that are coming out we use this avidly and thank you for making this product

Having received my iPad some time ago, I needed the case to make effective use of it and, unfortunately, the couriers sat on this over the Christmas period. At last I can now confidently take my new iPad along on trips where otherwise its survivability would be very limited!

It has the Defender series rugged protection, room for the pen to charge, and the pen can be stored unside the case as well. The screen works well with Face ID, and the ipad can be set in 4 different angles for viewing. The only flaw I’ve noticed so far is that the screen doesn’t respond to my thumbs for some reason! Strange!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost great I purchased this Otterbox for my new IPad Pro 11". My wife and I have one for our phones, and she for her IPad 9.7". The Otterbox is rock solid, and exactly what I was looking for. I toss my ipad in my bag several times a day, and I certainly don't want anything to happen to my $1k+ purchase. The Otterbox makes that happen. On the down side, the plastic sheet that is part of the box, that goes over the front of the ipad presented some problems. Clicks did not happen, other clicks simply seem to happen on their own. It just did not work for me. So I ended up taking it off. I'll be looking for one of those staticy films that go directly on the ipad screen. So great box, sheet needs some work, at least on my model. Again, I have three other boxes on three other devices where the sheet works fine. So maybe it is just this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Been better I purchased an iPad Pro 11. As we might know, IPads are expensive. Therefore, I didn’t mess with my device until I could get my Otterbox Defender. Once I received it in the mail I was excited to finally put my IPad to work. That’s where I was disappointed. I couldn’t seem to type on my device with out actually holding it. If I wanted to use it while having it on my desk it wouldn’t recognize me typing. This has been very grudging to me. I’m hoping I’m not the only one with this problem.

I've spent too much time having to press down hard to make good contact with the screen. Button's don't response, swipes down't respond, its very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not very sensitive to the touch The transfer of touch from the otterbox screen to my ipad screen is somewhat irritating. if i place my ipad on my desk it's impossible to use unless I agressively press the screen. The only way it transfers to the ipad screen if I hold it up in one hand, and my estimating software is easier if I have both hands free so..not so good.

I spend a lot of my time in old buildings sketching rooms, architecture, and designs. My first trip I took with my Otterbox was the Capital Building in Albany NY and after drawing as if there was no case and protective screen (sensitivity was dead on!), I turned to walk down the stairs and dropped my brand new Otterbox and iPad tumbling down the stairs!! After about 10 stairs it came to a stop, and outside of some scars to my Otterbox, my iPad Pro was perfect...Money well spent! Thanks Otterbox!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Screen protectors Had to remove the screen protector in order for the touch screen to work probably. When standing the device up it is too straight and needs to be tilted back for proper viewing while sitting on a table etc. my older version tilts back about 15 degrees

We use Otterbox to keep our expensive Ipads from getting damaged. These cases are the best and the most expensive. Get what you pay for for sure. Would like to see a lesser price based upon other cases are a third of the price.

But As every other defender great all around protection, however not sure what’s different on the screen protection, but one must apply significantly more pressure on the screen to use. Also be aware the case with cover over the screen is a bit thicker than the 10.5 pro case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best solution for Pencil Charging and Storage!!! I had purchased a different product for my iPad Pro 11” initially and was extremely satisfied with that. Then I purchased a Pencil...and there are no options...so when the opportunity presented itself I went back to my trusty Otterbox Defender. The functionality with the pen for charging and storage is phenomenal! It provides hands down the best protection you can buy for what has become a significant investment. Only complaint is that for upright viewing it could use a better angle as it is too sharpe and will fall forward on most surfaces. Otherwise best case money can buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Protection over all I buy Otterbox for almost all my devices, but this time with the new iPad models the design of the case changed in order to adjust to the new iPad design. I was hoping that the case would imitate the iPhone X case in the sense that it would not have a plastic cover included for the screen, and for some reason having that screen cover as part of the case made the interaction with the screen very difficult. Another flaw in the design if you can call it like that would be with the stand, for some reason when you stand the iPad horizontally it either goes in too deep into the case make it a little hard to reach the swipe up menu, other than that, if you can remove the screen protection and make a new design for the stand itself to better accommodate the iPad I would give it 5 stars.

I tried multiple cases, including the apple case that was first avaliable, and other options avaliable at Amazon. Very slick design, the only thing I would change is to have a variety of colors and design options since this is for my little girl, colors like blue , pink, and red, or maybe even patterns or themes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ipad Pro 11 OtterBox Defender 2 weeks in use - 4th Gen defender I have used over the years. Generally very happy use the Apple Pencil 2nd works and stores well. However, am thinking on removing the plastic screen and replacing with a glass screen as response is generally ok but not great, I can see a little frustration developing over time. Use is in construction so the case gets a good workout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Touchscreen doesn’t work I bought this case for my wifes new 11” Ipad Pro I bought her for Christmas. It was unusable due to how poorly the touch screen worked. You had to push very hard for it to register the “touch”. I’ve owned 3 other OtterBox Defender cases for other iPads and none of them behaved this way. I’ve returned this one for a refund and will order one more just to rule out that I got a lemon this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Protection I chose Otterbox because I need as much protection for my ipad as possible. Not many of the cases out there seem to have much real protection. The case is as expected in that area. The protective screen requires more touch pressure than without one. It would have been nice if the section where the pen fits to either enclose, or secure the pen. The current section for the pen just allows the pen to sit on the ipad with a flimsy piece of rubber on top. It is not secure at all. Overall, nice protection but a bit pricey.

I believe this is exclusive to the iPad Pro 11” case. I have had an otter box defender on prior iPhones and one on a previous iPad Air - lasted 5 years!! Hate to have to return the product but production/quality issues make this item difficult to use.

My only complaint is that the screen protector made screen responsiveness go way down. Face ID still worked but typing or clicking things on the screen was so difficult I removed the protective screen. Would be a perfect case if offered without the plastic screen cover.

Only think is, the screen protector renders the iPad useless. Can’t even swipe up to unlock the screen on my iPad Pro 11”. Disassembled case and removed screen protector. Removed sticky residue from edge of screen protector with some alcohol and put a ZAGG screen protector on. Reassembled and now I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks Good, But Some Usage Issues I knew the case was going to be a challenge with the new connection for the Apple Pencil 2, and was looking forward to how OtterBox solved it. It looked like their solution was cool, but I was expecting a plastic door/cover, not a piece of rubber you have to leave open when charging. I knew it was going to be a challenge, guess I was hoping for a better solution (at least one where the pencil could be stored when not in use). I need the pencil with me, but also need the protection and access to the rear camera when using. The other issue I am having is the responsiveness of the screen. It seems like I have to tap multiple times or press hard to interact with the iPad screen (more so near the edges). I still need to try taking it apart, recleaning both the iPad and the case and see if it persists, but all other iPad cases worked great right out the box. I really like the ruggedness and protections these cases provide and I use my iPad in a harsh environment all the time. I’m hoping a good cleaning will correct the touch issues, and I can live with the Pencil 2 arrangement for now. Hoping OtterBox comes up with a better design and maybe has a trade-in program for us that bought this one.

I do not this is up to the job of protecting my iPad from dust and water. Also, it is very heavy for day to day use if the lid is attached.

You can open a flap and charge the Apple Pencil but you can’t store it there which is stupid. And otter box doesn’t show pictures or explain how it works before you purchase it. In the past ten year we have had 11 iPhones and 3 iPads and they have always had otter box defender cases. We have always been very pleased but this case is Rubbish!!!

Touch control was intermittent and drove me to insanity. Absolutely worthless with the built in screen protection with your finger and oh yes... You want to use the 2nd Gen Apple pencil? Forget it... So disappointing... Going back and buying the Apple keyboard...

This new one for iPad Pro 11 inch is nice but like other reviews I read unfortunately after I bought it, the screen hinders typing. I find myself hitting my screen harder trying to get the letters to type as easy as past products. My other concern is the side area where the pencil attaches to charge. It feels like it would not last long with opening and closing so much to charge the pencil. So far it’s fine. Even tho I much prefer built in screen protection always, I have been contemplating cutting the screen off of it so I can still have the rest of the otter box protection but of course would then void the warranty. So far I just went back to another style case so I could type on it normally again.

Casually using my thumbs, Luke is comfortable, does not work. The pencil access door is sloppy. I’m going to have to remove the screen protector and perhaps the pencil door in order for this thing to be functional the way it should be. Really expensive product to have to modify so greatly. My old iPad mini case was 5 stars, what happened????

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, Good Protection, but has Flaws The Defenders (past and present) I bought for my iphones and my grandkids iphones work great. However, the Defender I bought and the Defender I received as a gift, for my 2 ipad pros have some drawbacks. As noted by others, for the good protection, you have to put up with inconsistent touch sensitivity and a vertical position that is useless. I miss my Logitech with smart connector and backlid keyboard!

I use my iPad in my work as a Speech Language Pathologist, working with children with special needs. The case I use needs to be very heavy duty. I feel like my iPad is very secure in this, and I love that it has the cut away you can use for the Apple Pencil as well. It *is* pricey, but honestly the protection you get is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as good as one I had for my previous iPad I have had this for a while now and keep having trouble with getting my iPad to respond through the screen protector film that comes on the Defender product. I have the iPad Pro 11" and was excited when this finally came out. I have taken it apart multiple times and cleaned both the iPad screen the the defender case screen protector. Still no luck. It is very difficult to get response using my finger. If I use a stylus, it works OK. So not sure if it is my finger causing the problem or the defender screen protector. I told the Defender case off and am using a cheap cover with no screen protector and my iPad works great. So even though the Defender I had for my 9.7" iPad worked great, this one is not meeting my expectation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One covers all I bought iPad pro 11 and couldn't find a full shell cover case in Japan. Most of them look like a notebook and unreliable of its durability. However this, I can bring my iPad either screen covered and screen uncovered, because attachment is reversible. And really sturdy and you can put pencil inside the case and charge it too. Perfect choice

I find I’m constantly having to tap and tap just for simple things like writing this review. I’m considering removing the screen protector from the case. My wife will not even use this iPad. Very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Additional thought on design required I've been a happy Otterbox user for the past several years. My iPad mini 2 was well served by my old OtterBox. Last month upgraded to an iPad Pro 11, with pencil. Sweet. The pencil seemed like an ideal addition for quickly taking down ATC IFR clearances and the OtterBox is pretty secure when your out walking around an airplane doing a preflight. I purchased the new OtterBox for the Pro 11 on Jan 4th it arrived quickly, took me a couple of weeks to get around to using it. There are pros and cons. The good: it's sturdy and supports the Pro 11 nicely. Looks like it would take a good drop and keep the Pro safe. The bad: First. sadly OtterBox didn't think very deeply about the pencil. When charging you have to prop open the charging cover and it's floppy and doesn't cover the pencil and the bezel seal pops out of the plastic frame. Then there's the major issue of what do you do with your pencil when it's not in use? Stick it in your shirt pocket protector? It would have been nice to have an easily accessible slot or pocket to hold the pencil when not being used. Second. The OtterBox adds a lot of weight, that was more or less expected, but if you're looking for something light this isn't it. Third. Installing the Pro 11 was a bit of a three handed operation. Finally the price seems a bit dear. Overall. It's a solid and secure, if heavy case. The problem of what to do with the pencil is a major issue for me. Assembly not the easiest. I'm considering returning it and looking for an alternative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn't Perform as Expected We choose Otterbox for all our iPad cases. This one is the only one that we had an issue with. When you would click down on something, it felt as if there was spacing between the screen protector and the actual screen. Your finger or pen would not recognize the screen tapping. You were forced to tap multiple times (in some cases it felt like 20 times) until you could select the correct thing.

Like other reviews, I find that the screen protector makes the IPad screen difficult to use. I suspect my solution will be to remove the built-in screen protector and use a more responsive one.

Just throwing a rubber flap over it doesn’t keep it on there very well. And when I saw the photo I actual thought you came up with a hard shell compartment for the pencil to charge and be carried . Otherwise as far as protection this company has that covered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cannot get apple pen to fit properly in the case I may be doing something wrong but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to secure the apple pen into charging position without bulging out the rubber on the side. The pen falls out easily, I was hoping this was a solution the help keep my pen in place while protecting iPad, it does seem to do a fine job of keeping the iPad from getting damaged.

Fits the iPad like a glove and has screen protection and offers probably the best protection of any iPad case and has a stand built into the case cover.

I can’t go five minutes without it not rendering a Few touches. It’s incredibly annoying. It’s protective at least, witch is hard to find for an IPad Pro 11”. You’d think for how expensive this case is they would at least check to see if this was a problem. Other than that it is a good case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed - Defender for iPad Pro was sent back We were disappointed - we had a previous iPad for a couple of years and it worked great. Based on that history, we purchase a Defender for our new iPad Pro. The thickness of the plastic protective screen does not allow the touchscreen to work properly. Researching this problem we found that ours had experienced this problem. After a couple weeks of frustration, we sent back the Defender for a refund. Disappointed since we use Otterbox products on many of our devices.

Easy to disassemble, install iPad and reassemble. No issues with faceID camera. Have noticed that touchscreen sensitivity is lower. Have to make a point of clearly tapping the screen to get responses sometimes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ok This case is ok. I had one for my previous iPad Pro that was great. This case is not quite as good. The Apple pen spot feels like an afterthought and makes the rubber part of the case feel like it’s constantly coming off. It also make sure the case feel less sturdy in general as I’m constantly feeling a void in that spot. It is not built to hold the Apple pen in any way, just to momentarily touch it to pair/charge. Lastly, the screen is far less responsive with this cover. I’m not sure if the plastic screen cover is thicker with this version but I consistently have to touch the screen multiple times to type and often swipes aren’t recognized unless deliberately swiping with a finger tip. You can’t hold the iPad and scroll with a finger because it’s not registering the movement. I’m sure it will protect the iPad but if I can’t type without frustration it’s not going to stay on my iPad long. We’ll see.

Screen protector has flaws from the first day that you can feel while using the iPad. The case keeps the iPad very vertical while on the stand so hard to use on a desk or in your lap

The case is still the same for protection which is great, but the screen cover is to thick and it is hard for the screen to recognize the touch of my finger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ipad defender IPAD pro 11 inch Appears it will provide good protection but access to the pencil is poor. The door is made of the rubber housing cover and is flimsy. When you open it, the door starts peeling away from the hard plastic housing as if your trying to disassemble the cover. Further, the door is flimsy and in the way. The cover basically eliminates the benefit of being able to store the pencil with the magnetic holder. Access to the pencil is not easy. I feel like a hard plastic door with a protective rubber coating would of been a better solution. Seems like the case was designed and manufactured without anyone actually testing the product. The only reason I didn't return this is no one else has a case with a hard plastic screen protector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s just ok. I brought this case for protection for my new iPad like I always do but, something is a little off. The touch screen is hard to activate with the case on. I did not have that issue when the case is off. Also, the compartment that charges the pencil is only a temporary holding space. It’s only designed to charge the Apple Pencil, making me more likely to lose it, again. Finally the cut out for the camera is to large making it easy to damage the cameras.

This is the first one that I have had an issue with the cover screen. Most of the time it does not recognize the finger touch, thankfully, it will recognize the pencil, but that can sometimes be finicky also. Very frustrating, but making do. Would HIGHLY recommend you have the pencil also if you buy this case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great case, very poor screen & USB protection I’ve been an user and fan of Otterbox cases for many Apple and Android devices and this is the first time I’ve been disappointed by one. The case itself is great, good protection and sturdy – just what you would want for the iPad Pro. The screen protector however makes the iPad unusable. While using the screen protector, hand gestures fail to respond as expected and this is most pronounced in the center of the screen. Kudo’s to the Otterbox support team who issued me an RMA, but the replacement case had exactly the same symptoms. Another issue with the case is the flap that covers the USB port, it’s fragile and I can see it failing soon as there is very little rubber material connects it to the rest of the case. It would have been good if the USB port access was treated in the same way as the speakers are. I don’t use the Apple pencil, but that rubber flap also has very little rubber material supporting it. I waited two months from the case announcement to availability for sale, but it seems like this case may have been rushed to market. These issues should have been caught in usability testing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible case I bought this as I have an Otterbox case on my Iphone XS which is nice and slim and protects my phone great. The case I bought for my Ipad Pro 11” was huge and ungainly and no wonder it protects against drops etc as with that much case around it I am sure it would survive a nuclear attack. So if you need a case to protect you Ipad during a war this is the case for you. Otherwise for everyday use far to big and thick and would take up to much room in laptop bag so I had to return it.
