I am careful with my phone but I don’t buy the security warranty. With this product you don’t need to! It protects the phone, clips the phone to your waist (or whatever) and you can easily use the phone (except the camera) without removing it—or you can cover the front so no one can see who’s calling. Another feature is the ability to purchase parts so if 1 part breaks (like my friends did) you can buy the 1 part and not the whole package

It may not be the fault of the clip, but at least there's a one year warranty. The whole assembly incl the case is at least $40, so to be able to order just the clip is worth the money.

My job is very physical and Im constantly getting caught up in places I shouldnt be. My Holster never failed me. I got online and found my old Otter case and it actually cost less than the one in the Mall and is great fit for my I Phone 5s. It is much stronger and will last longer than the cheap Mall case.

Performed extremely well and I’m very happy with this product, however about a month ago the upper clasp simply broke and I felt lost without the holster. So I purchased the second holster and I am extremely happy with that but I’m not sure Why this product failed in the first place?And hope it does not happen again.

Last month the clip to hold the phone finally gave up. I ordered a new holster and it arrived in days. The clip on the new one is very tight and holds the phone secure. Great product.

But I dont like keeping my phone in my pocket, so I use the holster. And that is the weak-link. I am now on my 5th holster in just over 2 years. All have failed at the same point - the clip. The last one I bought on-line from OtterBox lasted less than a week.

It always breaks where the tab holds onto the phone. Everything about the case that protects the phone is great but the clip that holds the phone on is not very durable

The plastic clip that locks the phone solidly in the holster broke on my first 2, but that was partly my fault since you need to be be gentle when clothing may be stuck with the phone in the holster. First one Verizon replaced for free, but Otterbox price was reasonable and came quickly.

But they don’t have replacement parts for their cases in stock. So the great warranty becomes useless. One part they sent must have changed from the original design because it doesn’t fit my old holster.

Ordered replacement and hope it lasts longer. Works fine until it breaks, which seems to happen easily, if you are not careful. I should have asked for a free replacement, but was in a hurry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always a good buy The Otter Box w/ belt clip is always a great product but there is one important thing to know and that is the angle that you wear the belt clip. Wear the set up in the vertical position on the wrong side of your body and get in the car...broken belt clip. Try wearing it more parallel to your waist line so it does not get wedged between you body and a seat, sofa or chair! Hope that helps.

Otterbox company did replace it 2 times for free and I just ordered a new one for # 3 as I was in a rush it only cost about $10 so did not deal with the warranty that time.. I just can find another product I like I Otterbox overall is great for service and warranting their products.

Second - I wouldn't have had to purchase a 2nd, 3rd and 4th one of these cheap plastic things if they didn't break so easily. The locking tab breaks when it hits the floor from only a few feet...the whole point of this case is impact resistance...how about making it out of aluminum?

I lost the second one on an airplane. However, it keeps my phone secure from loss and breakage. I attach it to my pants pocket when out walking. My phone and holder fits fine in my purse. If I accidentally drop my phone, it doesn’t break.

Maybe reinforcement of these two areas would make the holsters last longer.

Very difficult to remove phone from holster. The attachment was so tight it broke the hold/connector button on my case. looking for a better solution.

The Hubbies first phone was dropped numerous times from off of 12' ladders, and scaffolds higher than that, onto cement floors. Still can't believe it lived seven years in that first box. Only reason to buy a new phone was it would no longer be supported. Next phone has also made its way into an OB. Have had some issues with clips not lasting like the first one but the case is still taking a beating. His company just recently switched over to OB as well to help protect their investment.

The holster last 3 years until it slipped off my belt and crashed to the floor, breaking the clasp which holds the phone in place. But you definitely make superior products. The replacement came very quickly which was good because I was not used to keeping my phone in my pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Design flaw or abuse? I just replaced my Defender Holster for the third time. The two broken holsters broke at the hinged clasp holding the phone in the holster. Perhaps your records would show a design weakness or reflect my abuse. Both previous breaks occurred in my leather easy chair, perhaps the leather drag contributes to the failure. Overall I love my Defender case, it's on my hip 16 hours a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It allows me to carry phone on belt but has issues I bought this a month ago and while it holds my phone, the case covers the camera hole and the case is very difficult to get off, let alone quickly. I want to use the holster mainly to have my phone readily available when hiking, walking, biking, etc. or when out without a bag, but this limits its true availability, at least for anything that requires scanning or camera. So it depends on what you need/want the holster for and what you need your phone for while it is in the holster whether it is worthwhile.

(to thin for the repeated use it gets) I have purchased 3 holsters in the past 12 months because they all broke in the same way. (I'm on-line now to order the 4th holster! - $14.95 X 4 = $59.80 just for holsters!) Otter Box makes great products - I just hope they'll do something to improve this "weak link" on the holster???

I like it except that I had to build up the bottom part with 3 layers of duct tape before the clip would hold my phone in place. The clip was actually a bit too big for my Apple 5 with the OttoBox cover with the glass cover.

I clip it to my belt and have it where I can easily answer it, make a call, or send a text message. This is the third holster I have had. The thing I don't like about it is the first two I have had broke where the phone clips on, and the only solution is to replace it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reasonably sturdy but not invincible It's a good holster in that it is unobtrusive, reliable, and definite in its use. The phone clearly "clicks" into place and stays there. Fatigue happens though and the top hook will eventually break. I was surprised and happy to learn that I could get a holster instead of replacing the entire case at five times the price. I don't know why Otter wouldn't make that information a feature of its packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from iphone otter box case I find the case to be very convenient and definately protects the phone -occasionally have to take it out and clean the plastic cover from dirt and grime getting behind it but that is expected -the only draw back I have is the holster belt clip -the little tabs that hold the clip to the holster are plastic and once they break it is pretty much useless -I would like to see a stronger clip made available that was reinforced with metal so that the clips would last as long as the case

In the past, I probably did the damage to break it, but this time it seems that the retention clip that hods the phone became stressed and broke. Then my husband lost the cover. We were so disappointed, because it had survived the chewing by the Lab. But this the same design as the original cover and fits perfectly.

Unfortunately they appear to break at the point where the unit clips over the case. Otherwise it is a useful add to the Otterbox case. Only gave it a 4 because have since ordering from Otterbox found it was available from a reseller at a much lower price.

Very good protection with a slightly grippy surface so it doesn’t slide out of shirt pockets when carried that way. What is bad is the retaining clip on the belt holster is not very robust. They seem to last about a year and then break. I should know, I’m on my third replacement holster in three years. I do like the case though and that is why I suffer replacing the holster.

There was a lifetime warranty, but it wasn't worth the hassle to dig up the original packaging, etc. Just bought a replacement holster and carrying on. Very durable, tough product that is easy to use.

It can be a bit stiff at times, but once you get the hang of un-clipping it then it works great. I recommend putting it on a belt though, especially if you got a Defender case, as the overall phone weight can pull it off your pants. Overall I recommend this to anyone getting on Otterbox

I use to wear it horizontally, but now I wear it vertically because of how it broke, when it caught on something. The holster holds my Apple 5s defender case well, but it's a little hard to clip in place sometimes. The holster needs to be redesigned to have a more precise/better alignment when in the vertical position. The position of the hand is more awkward when trying to insert the phone into the holster, compared to when it is in the horizontal position. The defender case is great. I've dropped the phone several times and not a lick of damage. I am very pleased.

I love the quality of the product, and the customer service is top notch. If I could suggest a slight change, it would only be for the plastic holster that I use daily to carry my iPhone on my belt. The plastic lip on the Defender holster that holds the phone securely in place, usually snaps off after 4-5 months of daily use. I literally have a drawer full of broken Otterbox holsters. I would pay a premium for a “Made in America” All steel holster that lasts the lifetime of the case. I have had a few close calls where I have almost lost my cellphone after the holster broke and I didn’t notice it right away!

The rotating belt clip let’s the phone be worn either horizontally or vertically. The only problem with the product is that after a few years of use, the belt clip may suddenly snap off.

The problem? The release tab breaks off making the holder useless. It is made of plastic, and it wears out and breaks from repeated use. It needs to be reinforced or made with a spring catch.

The belt clip is tough but the retainer clips that the phone clips into are not good. Although it is better than most that I have had in the past it leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

Obviously I like them a great deal or I wouldn't continue to buy them knowing they last about 2 years then break. This last one seems to fit better. Less tight when holstering the phone. Maybe that will create less stress on that clip mechanism. We will see. Might be the last for my iPhone 5c. Might be time for a new phone if it breaks in 2 years. Will probably get another otterbox when that time comes. They are great dispute being on my 3rd holster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breaks After One Year I am on my third Defender Series Holster. The holster works well until the long dimension center tang plastic fatigues and breaks. The first two each lasted for a little over one year and then they just snapped off. At least the Defender Series case for my iPhone 5S has held up well. YMMV

Recommendation is a Conditional recommendation to buy given the issue with a broken belt clip hinge on the first Ottorbox belt clip purchased. **Weak points: Hinge for the belt clip & Thickness & height of the bezel on the case holding the IPhone. The belt clip holder holds a 2nd part that wraps around the iPhone. They can bought as a set or the belt clip can be purchased separately. This purchase was only for the belt clip holder because soon after purchase the previous belt clip broke at the point where the metal pin holds the two parts of the belt clip together. I had previously purchased from another source both the Otterbox belt clip and a case that goes around the iPhone (2 part set which then fits into the belt clip. Bought for the IPhone 5s which Apple has stopped supporting so accessories are drying up & because of that the Defender Set (2 parts) was heavily discounted. The Defender Series set includes a case to wrap around the 5s IPhone & then a separate belt clip that the IPhone case fits into. The belt clip is what I had to buy a 2nd time. The hinge on the belt clip broke soon after purchase. I normally would not have bought another after that failure but I already had the Phone case, the belt clip alone with a discount was very cheap & 5s belt clip holders are very few for a discontinued Phone. There is some type of warranty but the belt clip was so cheap that it was not worth the hassle to take the warranty route, whatever that might have been. The case that wraps around the IPhone: The iPhone 5s has a physical fingerprint recognition button. The case's bezel is so thick & high that it makes it difficult to position the finger properly to get a good read on the finger. If the bezel had been slanted that would have helped. The thickness & height probably are not a factor with an iPhone which has facial recognition. The phone case is definitely thick enough to protect the phone itself if dropped & the case material is not so thick as to be a problem to hold and the case material make for a nonslip case. The belt clip that the Phone case fits into. I have always used a belt clip & won't have any other arrangement. The hinge on the belt clip broke. Other than that everything was fine but, while I am babying the 2nd belt clip so that it does not break again, if it breaks again I will not buy another belt clip. I do recommend the belt clip Conditionally given that the first belt clip broke at the hinge but I am hoping that I can be careful enough that the 2nd belt clip will not break.

However, the holster is made of a hard stiff plastic material and the small piece that grips the phone on the outside continually breaks off. It typically breaks off just from normal usage: removing the phone from the holster a couple times a day to use the phone. I’ve had to buy about one per year, because it keeps breaking. It should be redesigned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better then the cheap China junk Cheaper china belt clip will last about 2-4 weeks before getting loose and then breaking off, Otter is the real deal and lasts 4-8 months with the abuse I give it. IF you just need one part look at all the options, we waited for the complete defender case for 4 months to get back to stock, then we realized we could buy just the belt clip. A couple days later and I'm back in business!!!!

Dropped this phone at least 2 dozen times with no damage at all to phone or the case. Finally broke the holster after 2 1/2 years of daily wear doing some pretty rough work. Absolutely recommend a Defender Case for any phone you have.

Problem is that my Otter case and the clips do not match exactly and it wears the clip and case (2-3 cases now) so the clip only lasts about 6 months. Also... it is hard to pull off so I end up with pain in finger joint - finally realizes that was what was causing my pain! But the clip works - just not matching case correctly. FYI all are "Otter" products... on plus side it protects my iPhone - it looks like new out of the case and it is a 5c!! But I think that the new cases and clips do work as well as my original Otter case/clip... maybe they switched manufacturers and quality control is not as good...?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Over all good product I have had to get two new holsters and one complete replacement in the years I have been using this product. Last holster the lock tab broke off. The first one was my fault at work. The only complaint I have is the rubber around the phone housing seems to get warn and is constantly loose on the bottom. I have not looked hard but would be nice to have a car holder that would fit the case so I can mount it on dash to help when driving and charging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great This is my second Otterbox holster as the first one broke. BUT, it broke after 5 years of daily use!! For me that is a major positive. It also protected my phone against falls perfectly. As with my first Otterbox, I found the snap holder a bit too tight. But, with a simple nail file and 5 minutes of effort, the snap holds my phone in perfectly but allows the phone to snap out with just the right amount of resistance. I simply filed down the edge that contacts the Otterbox case a bit and it's fine.

My only complaint is that I had to pay extra for it -especially considering how expensive the case itself was! The holster shouldve been included with the case.

The reason it is my second holster is the first one's clip became unattached from my belt & fell to the ground during a delivery & went unnoticed until I was 2 hours away. Luckily my phone wasn't in it at the time, so I didn't go back to find it. I really like the product, but am very watchful that the clip stays attached to my belt when I am wearing it. It gives excellent protection to your phone when holstered.

I am on my third holster with my current phone. It goes 6 months to a year and then breaks off, rendering the holster useless. A metal tab would prevent breakage.

Just don't get impatient and try to slam phone into holster without it being lined up correctly. Mine last about 2 years with rugged use. That's all I ask.

Every 18 months or so I have to replace it when the catch breaks off. It's not surprising that the molded plastic fails from fatigue after hundreds of cycles, but it does get annoying, especially since it fails without warning.

But I like this style best, it just may be impossible to get a plastic to flex that many Times and not fatigue and break?!?! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great case - OK holster I absolutely love the Otter Box Defender for my iPhone 5S. It has saved my phone on the construction site countless times. I prefer to use the holster rather than carry the phone in my pocket, however I just wish the holster was as sturdy as the case. While I give the holster high marks for keeping the phone securely on my hip, I give it low marks for durability. I have snapped 6 or 8 (might even be more) of the clips that hold the phone in place. This happens without warning and through normal use. I now purchase at least 2 new holsters at a time so I have one in stock when disaster strikes. Maybe you could come up with an aluminum clip (as an upgrade option) for those of us that actually use the holster. I can't imagine I'm the only one with this issue.

So far I have purchased 4 of these holsters because the plastic keeps breaking and it makes me very unhappy each time it breaks. At this point I am fairly certain that this new one will break in about 6 months. I plan to look for another option next time.

Might have been under warranty but in my line of work I felt it partially could be my fault. The part of the clip that secures the phone broke. The only other issue that I feel can be improved is the clip that secures the phone to your belt or pocket etc. I feel it doesn't hang on quite tight enough. Slides around.

The belt clip that I bought is the only one to use for my 6SE iphone (which takes the 5SE case and belt clip). I was great that Otter sold only the belt clip because that's the part that breaks every year. The mechanism's plastic hinged belt clip is now more durable and does not fail any longer, it seems. However, the top retainer clip of the holster that is just curved molded plastic with a snap wedge retainer fails annually right at the top of the holster where the clip shape starts, cracks, and thus eliminates secure use of the holster. The only solution is the holster must be replaced. That's great for Otter, and disappointing for users.

It is a very good product to product your I-phone from most daily activities (and I have dropped the phone a few times). The holster is also a great product to have. One issue with it is the release part of the holster when one need to clip/un-clip the phone. This is the most fragile part of the holster and it tends to eventually break. Fortunately, when contacting Otter Box, they stood by their product and replaced the holster are of charge.

The prior clip broke from a fatigue stress fracture of the center phone clamp. This failure made the belt clip useless. I am a heavy user of the Otter Box iPhone 5s kit and I will purchase another kit for my next iPhone. This is an exact replacement of the previous holster clip that came as a complete package for the iPhone 5s. Things that need improvement of this product: The table top mode, or desktop reading position, is not very stable and it is hard to get the desired reading angle.

I think I snagged the phone against a door jam when exiting and it broke. This was a necessary purchase and it works great. The previous holster was the same brand. It keeps the phone in place. I highly recommend the Otter brand.

My holster clips keep breaking so that is the only negative. Will be upgrading my phone shortly and will have a new Otter Box protecting it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient having the holster This is my 3rd holster. I hate being without one. The only drawback is that the retaining clip breaks. It's integrity may be improved by reinforcing the retainer clip by molding in a piece of spring steel. Otherwise, I like & NEED the holster.

I also have the Otterbox case around my phone, but my Phone had dropped on a cement floor and the holster had broken. NO damage to my phone. Thank you Otterbox. I tried not using a holster, but missed it and decided to order a replacement holster. It came as stated and in good shape. Thank you for making it possible to purchase just this Holster.

I appreciate that Otter Box keeps them in stock because the cllp which holds the phone in the holster tends to break too often. I buy them two at a time and that tends to get old.

After receiving and using the new OtterBox I was greatly disappointed. The clip on the new one is not as strong/tight as the old one and the entire OtterBox and phone fall off of the waistband of my jeans randomly. I went so far as the gorilla glue the clip on my old one back together. It worked great for a couple of weeks but then broke again. I wish the new OtterBox was made to last and was the same quality as the older one. : (

It had a design flaw utilizing a sharp fillet which doesn't work well in plastic parts. I didn't bother with getting another until Otter fixed the flaw. This time it looks like they designed it right. We'll see after I have it a few months.

The case is outstanding and fits our need in our manufacturing environment but the holster flat out stinks!! It is cheap material and does not hold up in our environment. I would say on the average I am replacing 2-3 holsters every month. Please come up with a holster that is equal in quality as the case has been!

It handles the bumps and bruises great but be careful wearing your phone case entering and exiting vehicles. I hooked it once on the way in to my vehicle and the belt clip snapped right off. Other than that, it is a great case and wouldn't use any other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lasted Four Years - Good Enough After four years of almost daily use in a horizontal configuration, the center top "clamp" broke. That's the middle hump when viewed horizontally. It broke along the line where the flat back of the holster curves 90-degrees to form the little tip that catches the small indentation in the side of the phone. The one that broke was made in Mexico. The 'Made in USA' replacement I just received from Otterbox seems to be identical except for ID numbers. I hope it lasts four years.

I started out with an Apple 5, and now the case has an Apple SE smartphone in it. What makes the holster great is that you don't have to replace the whole case when you damage the holster by itself.

It encloses the iPhone all around for dust and protects it from sharp objects. The holster is very handy to hang it at your side and has no way to escape. Indeed very good product and over the years I had a few iPhones and for each of them I had an Otter box. Quality of these Otter Boxes increased in the last years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holster clip I have exclusively used Otter box ever since I got my very first iPhone. The protection of the phone itself is unsurpassed. There just is not a better one. Otter Box is tops!! The only weakness is the holster. The holster needs some sort of update. I have had the same problem with belt clip snapping off. Sometimes I have had warranty replacement, but most of the time they are purchased. That should be addressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Defender Holster-Don't leave home without it! For years I have carried my iphone on my left hip in the Otter Box Defender, clamped on to my belt with the holster. Recently the holster clamp broke, and there were no local stores that carried it for the 5 series iphone ("obsolete, obsolete," they said). I didn't know how to carry the darn thing, didn't want to sit on it, not really comfortable in the front pocket of my jeans. I was lost, and afraid the iphone might be too. Within 3 days of ordering the replacement it arrived and I am now back to normal. A very necessary and reliable gadget in my book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Belt clip constantly breaks I had to order two new belt clips for this as they keep breaking. I had the original that came with the package for years. There must be a change in manufacturing because now they break regularly
