Rated 5 out of 5 by from VIP power supply for Boy Scout Summer Camp week I was on-the-fence whether or not I should bring this along to a week-long Boy Scout Summer Camp in August 2015 in Northwood, NH and I'm so glad I decided to do so. I used a 2-wheel dolly to transport it from the parking lot to our campsite (~ 6 minute walk and used it at least once a day to recharge my iPhone 6 (I had nothing else that I needed to power-up or recharge during the week). By week's end (after 6 nights) the display still was showing 60% capacity. All of our troop's other campers - adults and kids - had to recharged their phones outside by the latrine in a hornet's nest of AC adapters, power strips and extension cords while I conveniently and privately recharged mine protected inside my tent. I was concerned that the temperature inside the tent (during the daytime) might get too hot and affect the Yeti but I ended up recharging my phone at night so it was never an issue. I did notice that for whatever reason, I was not able to fully operate my iPhone while it was connected to the Yeti and charging (the touch screen was inconsistently responsive). I used small key locks to secure my tent's door zippers to discourage thieves since the Yeti was the most expensive piece of gear I brought along. Even though a knife could easily cut the zipper cords that the locks were attached to, it provided a detriment and theft was not an issue at our campsite. I still need to figure out how I'd safely and securely recharge the Yeti400 if and when it needs it...thinking of securing it with a bicycle lock via the handle to a picnic table leg...will still need to run an extension cord to an AC outlet by the latrine and keep it under a covered area to protect against rain. Overall it was totally worth it to bring the Yeti along for a private, peace-of-mind power source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good so far... So far I'm pretty happy with this product. I've had bad luck with other Goal Zero products not lasting very long. I'm hoping this unit breaks that mold. So far the only complaint I have is; All the ports need a bit more room. Plugs and adapters are different sizes and the ports need more room to accommodate this. I really like the display of incoming watts!

Had one time where it had a battery issue, but after talking to GZ support, they told me how to do a reset, and it has worked flawless since. Will be getting the connectors and linking the two together, and when the sun starts getting higher in the sky again, will try out with my four 30 watt boulder panels attached to the tripod.

So, thanks to my Yeti I can enjoy camping in remote areas. On a single full charge and my foldable solar panels, I can sleep in the wilderness 3 nights straight without worry. Best investment in a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good System - But - Ham Radio Users Beware I own 2 Yeti 400 stations for emergency home and field use. However, the AC Inverters on my units (and I'm told others) are unsuitable for Ham Radio Field use. They generate a 25 khtz noise on all HF Bands. My Ham radio club directed me to halt using the AC inverters for field operations because it not only disrupted my station but other's nearby. If you plan to use these units to power HF radios (or VHF/UHF Mobile radios) use the Anderson chaining connectors on the side of the Yeti to obtain DC power directly from the battery. (The Yeti front panel DC Power connections cannot handle radio transmitting power demands.) The Anderson chaining connectors power source combined with an in-line voltage meter will work -- add the solar panels to replenish the battery and you can still salvage good service from your Yeti. Goal Zero needs to take a hard look at their AC Inverter design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CPAP Power I purchased the Yeti 400 as backup power for my CPAP. I use a Philips Dreamstation Auto. Stats for the first night taken from the Yeti 400 display: -With mask off and humidifier off, it used 24 watts -With mask off and humidifier set at 2, it used 70 watts -With Mask on and humidifier off, watts fluctuated between 3 and 24 in relation to my breathing. -With Mask on and humidifier at 2, watts fluctuated between 50 and 70 in relation to breathing. I slept for 7.2 hours with the humidifier at 2 and pressure at 17, and I consumed 235 Watt Hours. The Yeti 400 showed that it was in the 60% block by morning. It was exactly what I needed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Else Can Compete I am a Photographer and needed reliable power that was safe to run my laptop off and charge gear and Goal Zero was the product that I bought. I have the Yeti 400 and a 20 watt folding solar panel and 1, 8mm 30ft extension cable to plug the charging panel into with 3 of the old style lamps a Rock Out 2 for music and a Mini Lamp for my tent. This rig travels in a case I made for about $20 bucks. I camp 2-3 times a year for 2-3 weeks at a time and never need to worry about power. Also its nice to have power during a pesky black out at home. The only thing I found was that a single 20 watt panel gets the job done but I will be buying a second one and making a portable stand to keep the panels at a 45 degree angle. This wasn't cheap to buy but remember you get what you pay for.

They charge up all my portable devices, my coffee grinder, a few lamps, and could charge more. Will probably put the panel on the patio cover and run a line into the house pretty soon. Probably will get one of the larger Yetis soon as well. They're made well and have worked perfectly so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light in the Remote Meadow We have to ford a river to get to our remote straw bale cabin in the mountains. Sometimes we can drive across; sometimes there is a foot bridge. This spring, the bridge had not yet been restored, and we were lucky that the river was low enough to drive through. The next morning the river was high and raging after raining during the night upstream in the mountains. This might seem irrelevant to Goal Zero customers, but for us, it underlines how remote our cabin is and how quickly we can be cut off from the world. It reminds us to appreciate the reliability of our Yeti Goal Zero!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Escape 150 I have literally bought about $10k in Goal Zero products in the past three years and have had pretty good success. The only product I've had problems with is the Escape 150. I had bought two of these and had problems with both of them. The problem I had was that the batteries would drain down in five days without any draw on them. I called Goal Zero but could not get any support to replace them. At the time, these units were less than 6 months old. Goal Zero has a real problem with this produce and would not make it right with me, even though I have bought 6 Yeti 1250's, dozens of Boulder 15's and 30's, two Yeti 400's, 20 Light a Life's, and ton's of other smaller products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yeti 400 usage I'm testing my new Yeti 400 and I have mixed results so far. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy so far. The Ac side of the 400 has powered everything I expected it to power and the things I knew it wouldn't power it did not. The USB ports have worked without fail. The 12v outlet has not performed like I have hoped. I use this for camping and needed to inflate a air mattress. The outlet would not power the small blower. I assume the amperage was too much for the 400. Being a portable power source this is something that needs improvement. All and all, I still plan to buy another 400 and chain them. I would have bought the larger generator but I need the compact size of the 400. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great power source, but a poor UPS As an emergency back-up or off-grid power solution, the Yeti products are great. The included 12-volt and USB ports help the battery last a very long time because they're so much more efficient than the AC ports (which can be disabled until needed. The companion "Light A Life" product makes the Yeti a pleasure to use, and knowing that one can plug in all sorts of 12-volt appliances make this device very future proof and energy efficient. As a nice bonus, there are not one but two chaining ports, one on each side. The manual and the specification don't mention this fact at all. As a word of caution: one might be tempted to see the Yeti series as a "better UPS" and that would be a very risky decision. While the Yeti is more feature rich and flexible than a traditional UPS, it isn't really designed for UPS-like usage. Specifically, the Yeti 400 input meter claims that it can only pull about 60 watts from the included power supply, and one must budget some (perhaps half?) of that wattage towards charging the battery after a power failure. That leaves very little power available for whatever UPS-like problem you are trying to solve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fell way short of expectations Investing a substantial wade of cash, we'd purchased the Goal Zero 400 Solar Generator, two Boulder30 Solar Panels; and a Boulder30 carrying case & two Lite-A-Life 350 LED lights for a cross-country camping adventure of a lifetime; from Washington state to Florida. Everything worked great our first night in our tent. The next morning however, the Goal Zero 400 Generator was dead. Not depleted of energy. But, flashing a 'Blown Fuse' had occurred. Referring to the owners manual it simply states 'Contact Goal Zero Solutions Center'. Not exactly the 'off-grid' lifestyle we'd hoped for. Everything was returned to the next Costco, the following morning. Thoroughly disappointed.

I use it at home to charge my laptop, iPhone, iPad, USB speakers, camera battery, USB amping light, and many other small appliances. I am able to get 60-70 Watts of power from the two Boulder 30 and two Boulder 15 panels I use as inputs. If you are looking for a perfect mid-range camping kit, I highly recommend the Yeti 400 with two Boulder 30s, the Boulder 30 carrying case, and the 30 ft. extension cable. Thanks Goal Zero for making such an excellent product!

I contacted Goal Zero and they had me send it back (at their expense) and they sent me a factory fresh, brand new unit. I was hoping for parts at best. They sent me a brand new unit. Amazing! Also, they did it quickly after all of the 2017 hurricane damage. I am sure they have had a recent spike in demand but treated me like a priority. I even asked that they service folks in need first. They still got me handled quickly. Thanks Goal Zero!

I know we are supposed to be at CAMP, not on the electronics, but it keeps them coming with me. lol. As well the light that came with it is the best light I have ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Emergency and almost mobile power I got a Yeti 400 a couple of weeks ago, along with the Boulder 30 solar panel. Now I am able to have some significant emergency power for my home, and a mobile electric power pack, if needed. I had already created a 33AmpHour sealed battery for emergency power, but always charged it from the wall. Now the Boulder 30 is doing a great job of charging the Yeti 400 so that I now charge my Guide 10 Plus from the Yeti 400, and not from my Nomad 7. I can also charge up my old battery from the Yeti 400, and it does not lower the charge in my Yeti 400 by much. This really lets me use my Guide 10 Plus as a very light mobile power pack that I can charge up a cellphone with, as well as all of my AA and AAA NiMh batteries, without worrying whether there will be a sunny day soon enough. The Boulder 30 seems to be able to keep the Yeti 400 charged unless I start trying to use it for a more routine power source.

For example: charges I-Pad from 26%-100% and Sony a7II DSLR camera battery top off new purchase, draining 40%. And for being so outdoor & “green” friendly, it was disappointing that 12v charger cable for expeditions/journeys is NOT included. Glorified power adapter for solar power access! Very disappointed! Was hoping this could store power for various small draw expedition needs at night. Not. The handle is very nice for comfort carry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Survived Boy Scout Summer Camp! I use my Yeti 400 at home a lot, but this was the first real test, a week in the heat of central North Carolina at Boy Scout Camp. The Yeti came through with flying colors. We used it to keep five leaders phones charged throughout the week. From Sunday through the following Saturday morning, we were constantly charging some sort of device using the USB or the outlets. During the I chained my Nomad 20 and 13 to add some juice back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not enough juice Hi, I haven’t written many reviews but I felt the need to write this one. I have own Goal Zero products for several years and have had few issues. Today, after fully charging my new Yeti 400, I decided to run some simple test. I used a Watts meter to note the amount of watts each item used. Everything from a small pc at approx 25w to power drill at approx 268w. I first used my Yeti to power my 42in Flat screen w/a blue-ray player. It ran approx 68-73w and with added cable box it hit 85w. Then I powered up my 240w Sony Music player it ran 40-45w. Everything was going well until I plugged in my power drill (1/4in drill 115 vac/2amps). My watts meter stated that it required up to 270w at the start but then settled approx 160w. My Yeti ran it for about 15 second before shutting down completely. And then I had to re-set the power button and the AC button. By the way, I have two Yeti 400 and both did the same thing. So I whipped out both my DieHard 1150 portable power and my Stanley Professional power station both with inverts and both rank 400 watts of power just like my Yetis. And both my DieHard and Stanley ran my drill with no problems (at least for 30 or more seconds). I measured the watts again of my small drill and again it measured approx 270, well under the 400 continuous power rating of my Yetis. Everything else ran fine but I caution anyone that this is not a generator replacement like so many have stated. Yes, it does provide enough power for small thing but it really doesn’t compare to some less expensive power stations ($140 to $170). And yes, my other power stations can do nearly everything for less, even be charged with solar panels. I am still a Goal Zero fan but I am learning it limitations. Thanks for reading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic performance We used this battery for a two week camping trip and it was a workhorse. Not only did we run our camp lighting off of it and recharged a plethora of smart phones and other tech, but it easily ran airbed pumps, cooking tools and a sewing machine. The display screen in particular with it's input and outut data was a huge improvement and definitely our favorite update compared to the escape 150. The only downside is that it does take a bit to charge, we were comfortably charging it with 2x 30w solar panels, only using one did feel perilously slow on it's own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Yeti 400s The Yeti 400s are not as durable as they might seem. I bought 14 and had to return 3. I have another that the AC will not work. I live in a very remote area in Alaska. The chaining cables do not work. The product can not be outside as the dew causes the Yeti to burn out. I am not giving up. I am purchasing one Yeti 1,250 and trying to only use the sun for power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great powerpack! I've used this in my compact R.V. for about 2 years just plugged in to a cigerett lighter outlet with a harbor freight inverter. It supplied all my recharging and lighting needs flawlessly. It now lives aboard my 24' sailboat where it is charged by a single 50 watt solar panel. It continuously powers a 12v cabin fan, cabin light, C.Crane radio, and effortlessly recharges my phone, marine handheld radio, and other misc. electronics. It never dips below 80% charge, even in dead of night. Because this product has served me so well, I've since purchased several other G-Zero gadgets and found them all to be good stuff. Particularly like the solar flashlight that I leave out on deck at night and keep near my bunk at night as a handy flashlight at night, withought ever putting batteries in it. Great Stuff!

The built in charge controller is convenient. The pure sine inverter is great for my electronic items... Computer, TV and such. If I am parked in the shade I put 50 watt solar panel in a sunny spot and swap units as needed. Couldn't be happier.

My son also got me a 30" solar panel and it work great to recharge the Yeti. We also got to accessories so we can jump a car if needed. We love our Goal Zero products! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yeti died within first year I bought my Yeti and was very excited about using it. Bought a package with the solar panels and original lights. Never really got to use it camping but kept it charged for almost a year. I really only took it out to show it off to people. Then, after building a tree house for my kids, I thought it would be an awesome opportunity to use the Yeti on a regular basis. The only problem? It died after a couple days of use. I went through the customer service email but they said they couldn't help me because it was past the year warranty. Now it's just a very large (and very heavy) paper weight. I was a big brand loyalist for Goal Zero... Very disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent products and amazing customer service A month prior to a week long camping trip in yellowstone and zion I had bought a yeti 150 .while on our trip it worked amazingly charging phones cameras and running 4 light of life 350 lights and stayed charged every day only issue I had was the lcd screen wasn't indicating the charge rate . So I gave goal zero a call and they said if your anywhere near salt lake bring it by and we can check it out ,and it just worked out because we would be passing through salt lake on our way to zion park. So we just made it to the factory store 15 minutes before they closed. The women at the counter was very helpful I explained to her what the problem was and she brought out a brand new yeti 150 right there and then ,I was so pleased with the 150 I asked if it was possible to upgrade and pay the difference for the yeti 400 aaaand she said no problem ! So I'm am now the new very happy owner of a yeti 400. They even through in some free decals and caribiners to hang my nomad 20 panel . While I was there I also picked up a rock out 2 speaker wich I am also extremely impressed by. I gotta say to anyone looking to buy from goal zero I couldn't be any happier with there products and above and beyond customers service . Big thanks to the people at the salt lake factory store for making me a very happy "camper" and I'm looking forward to sing all your future gadgets and products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Assist for Emergency Prep! I use my Yeti to charge my phone daily, and other devices sporadically. It is important to keep keep it charged and also use it regularly. Just like the battery in your car. If you do not use it and charge it, it will prematurely expire and be of no use. My Yeti will be ready for an emergency because I use it and keep it charged.

They were all able to play movies in the tent and have light with the Light-a-Life LED light. It all worked together so well! It was a great investment to get this generator. Lots of power with portability, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yeti 400 is an improvement Had the Extreme 350 which did the job for me at Burning Man last year but the Inverter buzzed in an annoying way. It also died on me while in storage which I now understand was my fault for not charging it to full capacity at least every 3 months. The Yeti 400 was a nice unit that worked quietly and effectively. The charging and discharging displays were very helpful. I was able to charge it with my variety of panels and it handled my Yurt lights, swamp cooler and kept my phones and computers charged throughout. I had two Boulder 30's and a Nomad 27 to charge it with. That should have been up to around 80volts but it maxed out at 45v in direct sunlight. The biggest problem was that the Input connector on the Yeti 400 only loosely fit the cable from the newest Boulder 30. It wouldn't connect at all with my older one and the Nomad 27 couldn't chain. I had to twist the connector in just the right way to get the input light to come on and the charge to start. If someone would bump/move the cable, the cable would disconnect and charging would stop. Kind of frustrating to set it up and then come back to camp at the end of the day to see that it hadn't charged at all. Don't know if there is a connector or adaptor that works better with it but that would have made the whole system much more effective.

I keep my DVR and home security webcam plugged into the Yeti 400 24/7. The drain is less than the consumption so my Yeti 400 is always ready to go at 100% charged. If there is a power outage my security webcam and DVR never miss a beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful portable power product This is a great starter solar product for someone interested in emergency power and recreational power in addition to the personal power of the Guide 10 Plus. Its moderate cost and light weight with significant power gives you the best way to explore emergency and recreational power. Although the Yeti 1250 is wonderful in that it gives quantities of power that allow you to use most of the electrical equipment you would have around the house or use for travel, it is quite heavy and very expensive, especially if you are not convinced you actually need that much power. The Yeti 150, while even lighter, does not have enough power to be able to power enough different pieces of equipment for emergency and recreational travel use. The 80 watt continuous power maximum from the Yeti 150 is not nearly as useful as the 300 watt continuous power maximum from the Yeti 400. The 30 lb. of the Yeti 400 is the right size for basic emergency and travel power unless you really need more. The high quality pure sine wave inverter in the Yeti 400 minimizes equipment incompatibility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome until the AC output died We bought the Yeti 400 to run a CPAP in remote areas which it did beautifully as it is designed for medical equipment with the sine wave output on the 110AC, lasting the whole night (without the humidifier). Loved the design. Used it for about ten nights total. Then the AC output died. It ramps the current up and shuts off every time i try to power it up without anything plugged in. The other ports still work, but the AC is permanently dead. Hoping someone posts a better brand to use here. I'll check back. Funny that "Short Life" is a con button on the review form. Must be a real problem. Could get a powerwall from Tesla for not much more.

The screen was full of water, everything really.. bummer but I dried it out by opening it up and blowing a fan on it.. still works 100 percent! Maybe even better than before. I have lived in a truck for 2 years so this thing has endured some pain, sleeping all winter with temps below 0F, litterally 10* wow. No charge controller or inverter BS just plug and play! Makes life easy, I added an extra Yeti 400 batt and this thing keeps the fridge going 24/7 + computer charges etc etc

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yeti 400 is great I upgraded to a Yeti 400 from a 150. I have chained 4 - Duracell 35 amp hour batteries, totaling 2,000 watts/175 amp hours. I can watch a 50" Samsung LED HD TV with satellite dish for several hours and run an ARP cooler through the inverter with no problems. I also have several Goal Zero products that stay fully charged, as well as cell phones, tablets and an occasional lap top. I would have purchased the 1250, but no room, the 400 is doing a great job staying charged with a Renogy 100 watt mono solar panel.

Together they easily power all of my devices, laptop, IPad, IPod, cell phone, electric tooth brush and razor. This battery is fantastic. It has multiple plug ins for every device you could own. I really like the read out displays on the front for charge in and electricity out. This is a cool battery.

It's all junk, disposable garbage. large batt packs = melted, large tripod = unstable brittle joints (cast for old tin cans I guess) Products have nice flashy paint and pretty plastic facing. The fact that the 8mm input port isn't standard across all goal zero products is annoying. Needed to ask for an adapter cable to connect my boulder 30 to the yeti 400. On the upside, customer service was fast, responsive, efficient and helpful.

It runs three filters, two nano, and one large, along with three fish tank heaters and one air pump. It does a great job and keeps them all running for 7 hours. Not too bad for a little generator. I love it, and it has been a lifesaver for my fish, literally! I would recommend it for anyone who needs a great little backup.

Used the Boulder 100 to keep it charged. If the weather called for a few cloudy days, I would take it into work for the day and let it wall charge. Haven’t had a problem with it so far.

I was not sure what to do and thought I would be limited on my camping and summer camp attendance. I purchased the Yeti 400 with hopes it would give me the ability to continue camping. What a wonderful relief!!! I am able to get three nights (full 8 hours) of power for my CPAP machine. For maximum use, I did need to turn off the humidifying portion, however, for my needs, it was okay. This thing is awesome with Light a Life lanterns!!!

My main reason for selecting the yeti 400 was its features and ability to be charged by my vehicles 12 volt lighter connection while on the road, solar panels in isolated locations, and motel room outlets during overnight stays. The yeti 400 is about the size of a vehicle battery and still light enough to be carried without any difficulties. Being disabled, I have no problems in its operations Thanks for a well designed product.

Breathing is hard enough work without being assured that your equipment will work in a black out. Sure enough one night the lights went out in our neighborhood but the YETI 400 had enough charge to get me through one whole night of sleep. Liked it so much I bought another.

I would need to use the YETI 400 to run my CPAP breathing device. I used it Sunday night at the trailhead for my CPAP, charged my Smart Phone and tablet all night and used 2 Light-A-Life all evening. Monday hiked in- so virtually zero charge time. Because of overcast in the evening I saw 3% one time on the charge panel, a few 1% readings then the sun went down. Monday evening, same routine; CPAP, Smart Phone, tablet & lights. It worked perfectly with power to spare. Needless to say I am ecstatic about my YETI 400 and all of my GOAL ZERO products. THANK YOU GOAL ZERO!!!

It is very sturdy and performed very well with my ResMed S9 CPAP. It charged our phones as well as ran a small fan for a while. I charged it with the car through an inverter while we camped, even though we did not use a fraction of the capacity. Very happy with the purchase.

Used it for my Resmed CPAP, with humidifier AND heated hose (trying to see what the Yeti would support. After 8 hrs I had burned up almost 50%. Obviously if I really needed it, I would turn off the humdifier and heated hose but it's nice to know I could do it if necessary. Tested all the connections and worked great for recharging iPhones, IPADs, and my PC. Then I plugged in a good sized fan... whoops. I didn't take into account the startup pull and something popped. AC was inop. DC worked fine. Emailed customer support who had me open the box and check the replaceable fuses. Those were good. They then had me send it in (no cost to me) and they replaced it with a new one. Even though it was my fault for not checking the startup pull on the fan. Fantastic customer service!

I took the Yeti 400 camping, with 2 Boulder 30s, and it worked like magic, powering up all of the kids tablets, our camera, some LALs, and we even used it with a projector to watch a movie. Around the house it has been really fun, plugging in and using different electric tools. And, it will be great for when the power goes out. Fun little features, like seeing how much power is going in and out is really neat. Love this stuff!

I used several Goal Zero products during my camping and hunting trip including the Light-A-Life 350, the Lighthouse 250, and I even used my CPAP machine sleeping for 7 nights without a problem. It was sunny three of the days, and cloudy the other four. I was charging my Yeti with a Boulder 30, which worked well, however I'm thinking about buying another Boulder 30 to really take advantage of sunny days to charge.

The only glitch is a minor one in my opinion. My alarm clock seems to run about three minutes fast a day while hooked up to the Yeti.

I bring anything I can to occupy my time while working and this was the best investment that I have made. I have searched for a long time for a way to collect, store and use power as I needed to. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camp power! These yeti 400's are awesome. I use mine to charge cell, laptop, lighthouse 250, guide 10, etc.. I then use the Guide 10 for a L-a-L's mini & usb fan and run the lantern at night. I have found that constant charging will result in faster recharge times. always start your camping trip with the yeti fully charged. Just keep an eye on the watts in/out. I use a Boulder 30 with a nomad 7 on caboose, this keeps the yeti 400 charged at about 20-22watts in. 5 hours of good sunlight = +/- 100 watts recharged. I own a number of GZ products, I believe it works best as a system. Using the larger generators to power the smaller battery packs, etc. Great gear. GZ products need to be handled as electronics not "power tools/gear". Proper storage and usage will ensure your GZ equipment will work when you need it to!

We used it to blow up 3 air mattresses, 1 iPad, 5 Smart phones, 1 Kindle, and 2 LALs through out the weekend. It was easy to use, reliable and powered all of our gear. It ran out of juice the last day of our trip, so I didn't need to recharge from solar. It brought a little bit of comfort to our trip.

It worked great for all of our needs. Cameras, iPads, Bluetooth Speakers, Phones, Notebooks, cell phones, and various lighting products. One day, we could no longer charge one of our notebooks so I called Goal Zero. They issued a return label and shipped out a replacement within 24 hours. Ended up picking up a smaller Yeti 150 which is perfect for quick tailgates at games and concerts without the heft of the Yeti 400. I know there are cheaper products on the market but I like how easy Goal Zero products are right out of the box.

Some years back my husband put together a bike generating system that charged a Duracell power pack. The Duracell only made it 4 months before it quite working and was meager on features. We have been keeping our eyes open for a replacement and when we herd about Goal Zero via our work in Greenland, we started researching and decided to go with the Yeti 400. The Yeti 400 is incredibly practical for our use. We have followed the directions explicitly and (for our own reasons) have not let the power level drop below 80%. After this purchase we've invested in lighting as well and I'm here to say the light-a-life 350 light's (2 daisy chained together) and the Lighthouse 250 lantern have lit up our world. I can actually cook a meal in the kitchen without my headlamp. We've also upgraded a few of our other electronic devices to rechargeable products - all of which charge wonderfully off of the Yeti 400. Not only are the products we purchased excellent, but the customer service was as well. When I called and explained my husbands bike power set up and inquired if there was a way to safely charge the Yeti 400 from the bike, the fellow helping me took the time to talk with Goal Zero's engineers and sent me the proper adapter the next day. The adapter of course works perfectly and my husband is able to get his morning workout in and top off the Yeti 400 at the same time. We are very happy with our purchase.

We keep our laptops and cell phones charged. We also use the Yeti generator for our light a life lights. This save us from running the generators and there is no noise. This makes being off the grid a lot more convenient.

Also they have limiters that "limit" how much/fast you can (re)charge them. I.e. 120 solar panel (not cheap) will only provide (aka yeti will only allow) approx 50/60 to trickle in...the tech. is just not there yet or they are holding back. Very un-dude!

I purchased the Yeti 400 about a year ago and it has been a very good companion. at first, I thought it would have been good for us (my family) to get the larger Yeti, but this one was PERFECT. On my family's recent road trip, we had to go without plugging in our RV for multiple days straight and the Yeti helped out lots. we always liked to have a fan running for some "white noise" and the Yeti ran the fan all night with extra power left over. Wile we where on the road, we would charge it with the cigarette lighter then we charged the rest with the Boulder 30 when we got to our stop. Wile we were at home, it is nice to run a fan, charge your phone, etc without needing to pull out an extension cord. During summers, it is nice to sit with my feet in the pool and watch a movie on a monitor (I would needed to grab the extension cord again if it wasn't for the Yeti). So pretty much, the Yeti saved us time and struggle because there where no extra cords.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little power source! The Yeti 400 is a great compact power source. It feels very sturdy and well built. The integrated backlit display is helpful. It shows input charging power, battery charge level and power consumption. It is really nice to see the charge rate when connected to solar panels. I have charged my unit a couple of times with my pair of Escape 30 briefcase solar panels. I have also used the unit to charge my iPhone several times using the USB port and to charge my MacBook air a few times using the AC output. Right after I received the Yetti I tried to charge it with the included AC wall outlet power supply. This power supply made a very loud humming sound when plugged in, then got very hot and then completely stopped working. It turned out to be defective, but after one call to Goal Zero customer support I had a new working power supply shipped to me. The customer support person was very friendy and the new power supply was shipped to me very quickly. I think a good way to judge a company is to see how willing and able it is to fix a problem. I was very impressed at how quickly and easily Goal Zero solved my problem. Since then I have not had any problems with my Yetti. I have been very impressed with the Yetti and Goal Zero and I am looking forward to many years of using the power supply and solar panels to keep my electronics running during camping trips.

The yeti 400 performed flawlessly in those fields. I later began experimenting on other devices, such as ground fans, lamps, electric kettles, and an ice tea maker. All but the kettle and ice tea maker were able to pass. I was an idiot and thought that the yeti 400 could have provided power to those devices, as I didn't read how many watts it could push out. The reason for four stars is that if I want to power an energy saving microwave, or electric kettle, or lastly an ice tea maker, I would have to buy the yeti 1250. That's just a little to much for nice things in a SHTF scenario. Overall I am not disappointed, and am very pleased, I called goal zero customer service and they were extremely helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't cut the mustard for me I purchased from Costco last Fall during the Goal Zero show there. I decided to buy via Costco because of their return policy. I wanted to take my Yeti 400 camping. I decided to give it a try before I went up into the mountains. I plugged in a video projector (I wanted to watch a movie while camping). The projector was pulling 220-260 watts the whole time. The system shut down after 20 minutes. And the battery was completely charged. Maybe I got a bad unit. But if it is supposed to sustain 400 continuous watts, then it shouldn't have shut down with 1/2 that load. I love the "plug & play" ease of this system. It simply doesn't muster under normal use. Cost-wise, this is actually over-priced compared to other systems I can purchase. Yeah, the setup is easier, but if it doesn't work, then it is not worth the "ease" at all. I'd pass unless all you're running is some low wattage lights.

I like to keep hours down on the $6000 coach genny, and keep peace and quiet in the mountains. My Yeti400 charges 6-8 cel phones, 2 tablets, and my wife's laptop all at once in the afternoon / evening. By 10pm the Yeti might be down to 70% with all of these devices at 100%. My single 140 watt solar panel will have her back to 100% by noon the next day... and the cycle goes on for 7-10 days. I also charge my drone batteries as well as my r.c. cars off of the Yeti 400. They are all sensitive, expensive smart batteries, and the True Sign Wave Inverter has never injured any of my equipment! Unfortunately, my motorhome generator took out a laptop battery, and a newer smart phone because it is not true sign wave. I never charge sensitive electronics on my generator any more, ALWAYS on my Yeti 400! Have had it for a year, Love it, LOVE it, LOVE IT!!!

If you do your research, understand your needs and the product capability, you can't be disappointed if this is your choice. It ran 6 LAL, charged a Lighthouse 250, charged devices, did everything we expected it to do with no problem recharging the next day. The real key to the Yeti products are that they are plug and play with Goal Zero panels (which are truly expensive for what you get), but there's no guess work here. Connect panels (or not, if at night), turn on the ports needed, plug stuff in, use the Watts In/Out and Battery "fuel" gauge. It's simple stuff. If you're taking more out than in, you're draining, if more in than out, you're charging. And doing that very simple math tells you how long you have power with what you have running. Some people balk at the price, and some talk about being able to build one MUCH cheaper. But this is the where those people assume that others have both a mind for the engineering and building/wiring, etc. - including knowing all the solar panel specs, volts, amps, amp-hours, etc., AND totally discount that for those that just don't want to take the time, this, and the rest of the Goal Zero product line is really plug and play. We watch our fuel gauge on our vehicles all the time, and we know at what speed we're going how far we can go. The Yeti products are just that simple. For those who just want to drive a car instead of build it, the Yeti products are for you. Having run multiple test scenarios at home then taking into the field, I absolutely recommend both the products and Goal Zeros 5-Star customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome Little Generator!! I purchased the Yeti 400 combo pack which included a Nomad 20 Solar Panel. I have been testing the capabilities of this set up here at home prior to taking it out camping (I recommend doing this for all outdoor equipment). As a power supply the Yeti 400 has performed flawlessly. I have powered (at one time) an iPhone 5, iPad 2, a Toshiba laptop, and a household lamp with a 13w CFL bulb (trying to get as close to the draw amount of 4 light-a-life lamps). The amp draw was 47amps. The Yeti 400 powered all of these devices simultaneously for almost 8 hours before depleting to 20%, at which time I plugged the Yeti into a 110v wall socket to recharge. In less than 5 hours I was ready to power my devices again. I personally believe that the Nomad 20 would not be sufficient to recharge the Yeti 400 under the power drain situation I tested my Yeti under. However I feel confident that with a full charge and good sun exposure, the Nomad 20 would handle the demands of a 3 day camping trip. Generally I would only be charging my IPhone, a Bluetooth speaker, and running 1 - 4 light-a-life lamps. Since the lights are required to be run at night for camp illumination, I would recommend charging subsequent devices during the day when the sun is providing power to the Yeti 400. This practice will minimize the power drain to conserve battery life. After a months worth of home testing I could not be happier with my purchase. Please note I do plan on adding one more nomad 20 to be chained for 40w of solar input while in the wilderness. On a finishing note I would like to say the Yeti line boasts fantastic products that will power many different devices. However, pleases know the limitations of these products and set your outdoor experience expectations to a reasonable standard. This simple logic will ensure you are happy with your Yeti, and in turn it will deliver exceptional results for may outdoor adventures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of Power Brought this on a five day camping trip. Charged tablets and phones for the whole ten-person group multiple times over. Ran Light-A-Life lanterns in the tent and the eating area and even recharged a battery on the boat with it. When the trip was over the Yeti still had 30% battery. I have no doubt that this was a perfect purchase for how it will be used

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good & Bad Basically I like this product. I have to use for my CPAP and other camping uses. I used it twice in the wilderness, no complaints works great. BUT on the biggest wilderness trip of my life thus far it failed me. Alaska trip in the middle of nowhere just us and wildlife I as excited to use this equipment. I plugged in my AC outlet and no power was coming out... FAIL. I was depending on this for my camera and CPAP now I couldn't sleep for 5 days or take quality pictures. Like I said I like the product but I think it was the worst time for it to fail. GOAL ZERO gave me a return number and hopefully it won't happen again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Everything & More! I'm cofounder of Project Picture Day, an international organization that hosts organized picture days in schools in underserved communities. It's usually rare for the locations we work in to have a reliable source of electricity. The GOAL Zero Yeti 400 did it's job and more! It lasted way longer than we had anticipated, charging 2 laptops and providing power to 2 portable Canon printers (at the same time). The solar panels helped tremendously, slowing down the rate of which the Yeti 400 would lose power. We would not have been able to successfully executed our projects without it. For that, it makes this investment 100% worth it! Oh, and you're able to fly with it (as a check in). Huge perk!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product/yeti 400 I purchased the yeti 400 about 4 months ago and we love it. It is now a mainstay on our camping trips and road trips. It has done everything we've needed for power and when fully charged it lasts quite long. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pray you don't need to change the fuse I've had the Yeti 400 for charging ipads, phones, outdoor lighting on trips and as emergency backup. This lasted until a fuse blew. I contacted Goal Zero and instructed how to change the fuse myself except you need a soldering gun to do so. I'm now left with a massive paperweight as the plug no longer works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garbage Do not buy this product! I was gifted this product new in the box. It must have sat for a few months because it was dead. It would not take a charge. I called the customer service line and they suggested I buy a replacement battery. So much for 500 battery cycles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AC Outlets Stopped Working After Off-Roading Trip We took our Yeti 400 on an off-roading Trip to power all of the devices we wanted to use for our 4 day trip and after the drive in we learned the AC Outlets Stopped Working. We then checked the USB and DC outlets and they worked fine. After returning home I dismantled the entire device and checked fuses on the AC inverter chip and nothing was blown. Turns out a few of the wired connections connected to the larger things on the board (one of which was the transformer) had disconnected, likely due to the vibrations of driving. I resoldered them to the board and the AC Outlets work again, but it's a little frustrating that Goal Zero didn't decide to support the inverter and other larger things on the board with more than just glue. I am not confident bringing this device on rougher roads anymore as these components may become disconnected again. Other than these complaints the remainder of the features of this device work great.

I made sure it was fully charged the day before and it died after only running the fan for an hour. For $450, it definitely didn’t meet my expectations. I’ll be asking for a refund

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice design, poor assembly I've had the Yeti 400 for several months of camping and portable ham radio use. It is able to operate my various radios and computers when operating from a campsite, along with lights and other normal camping needs. I did not like that the charging port is recessed, it meant I had to shave off some of the plastic on my solar panel cables so it would make a good connection. I also didn't like that 2 of the rubber feet fell off within a few weeks. But the worst thing was that the battery connections were NOT tight. I wouldn't even call them "snug" as it came from the factory. This could have been a major point of failure, and a potential fire hazard (or at least cause melting plastic) if you are drawing a lot of current. I'm happy that I have a natural curiosity for electronics or I would not have known about the lose connections. Not sure if the factory worker had their air driver set incorrectly or just forgot, but Goal Zero might want to do some surprise QC just to make sure things are being done the right way. But that's not to say I'm not happy with the unit. The true sine wave inverter is very quiet and puts out almost no RF trash, which is a great improvement over the Extreme 350 I have used before. Thanks to the use of Powerpole connectors it's very easy to daisy chain the Extreme 350 and the Yeti 400 for extended capacity (although that won't let you draw more amperage, so if you want to run a microwave or something, go for the Yeti 1250 or better yet buy a Honda generator). Having the USB charger is a great feature for phones and other gadgets, and the multiple 12V output options means you can have lights and lighter-adapter devices connected at the same time. It's just the right size for car camping, not taking up much room at all, and the recess-able handle means it has a flat top and you can set other stuff on top. I have 4 Boulder 30 panels daisy chained to provide charging power and so I can run my radio at the same time. I haven't done a full-bore contest on solar power yet, but for casual use this setup will run all day and night (with both the Extreme 350 and Yeti 400) and still have reserve power in the morning.
