Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beast, but more than capable ... would buy again If you're reading this, then you know the specs, and a zoom in this range at a constant F2 is unheard of. I rented it side by side with the rf 24-70 2.8 and liked them both. For me, the size/weight is not a showstopper at all. I'm used to the 70-200 iii, 100-400, 28-300 .... heavy glass is a constant. I also use a battery grip on my EOS R and find it balances very well with it. The reason I went with this lens is that you can't always add more light to a shot when shooting outside of controlled lighting, without introducing noise. This is a FULL stop faster than 2.8's and it is incredibly sharp. AF is fast and rarely have any hunting (If ever. In an era where camera bodies come out claiming to be better by 1/3 or 1/2 of a stop, getting a full stop with tack sharpness wide open, there is no replacement for that. I would highly recommend it and buy it over and over again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing lens… but be realistic As has been posted many times before, this lens is HUGE! But while it is an awesome lens and seems to be worth it’s price tag, which is just as HUGE, it’s not perfect! It seems that the praise and reviews this lens gets leads people to the impression that it’ll make your photos appear amazing no matter what. That’s not the case! You still need to have skill and know what you’re doing when using this lens. It’s not for everyone. If you shoot a lot of weddings or other high pressure events where you are paid to get the best shot possible, this is a valuable piece of gear! If you shoot things that are laid back and you can take your time with getting the shot, there are other lower cost lens that will work just as fine, if not better, for getting that ‘look’.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! This lens is golden!!! Wow! This lens is everything I hoped it would be! I feel like I can officially sell all my fixed lenses and just keep this on my camera for family portraits & weddings 95% of the time! (keeping the 135mm f/2.0 for those far away ceremony shots. I've gone the last 18 years running back and forth with my fixed lenses to get different perspectives during my shoots and I'm just tired of it. I have prayed for a zoom lens like this that has the beauty of shooting under f/2.8 to get that shallow depth of field that only my fixed lenses have given me. It's so incredibly sharp and super fast! I almost gave it 4 stars just because this thing is a beast and weighs a lot, but luckily I haven't had any extra hand or back pain from using it all day. Do yourself a favor and get this lens! Paired with the R6, I feel like my photography has taken a huge leap with the colors and sharpness, while also making it easier for me to not have to run around so much for my shoots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It a prime-like zoom. Great lens that is easily my favorite to use in portrait photography. Super sharp at any focal point and I really don't miss the 4mm at the low end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Big Engine That Does! This lens is huge, but I'm in love. Being an F2 lens really opens up my bag to not carrying a 35mm, 50mm and in some rare cases my 85mm. I typically shoot from F2.2 - F3.5 so the focal range of this lens for the most part has me using almost 1 lens for an entire wedding. Only downside is that it's huge and the heaviest lens I have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome HEAVYWEIGHT I wasn’t sure if I should keep this lens after suffering terrible back ache after the first long shoot day at a friend’s party in London, but the capability and the images are so fantastic that I thought I will get used using the lens. It’s my best tool so far. Excellent quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beast! I'm not apposed to paying big money for gear if it's as good as promised and the Canon RF 28-70mm f 2.0 is more than I expected. Paired with my Canon R5 it's by far the best lens in my collection for portrait and landscape photography. I haven't used it for video yet but I expect the same phenomenal performance. The clarity and sharpness are unmatched. My Canon RF 24-70mm lens is an excellent lens but I have no need for it now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great IQ but Insufferably Heavy Great IQ is a given with the RF 28-70 and the price is what it is. The real question is whether you can handle the weight, and it's hard to know without trying it. Supported with two hands, it is your left hand that will get fatigued. You'll pick it up and, at first, you'll think it's not as bad as you imagined. The longer you hold it, the more you'll question this first impression. On my R5, I found that I could securely manipulate the body and lens with just my right hand on the camera's grip until I released my thumb to back button focus. Then it felt like a matter of time before I dropped the whole kit. In other words, I wouldn't use this without a camera strap. If you own the RF 100-500, the RF 28-70 is almost the same weight. The 28-70 is more compact but it is front heavy so the experience of holding and supporting it is pretty similar. I ended up returning the lens. As much as I hate switching out primes, I hated trying to hold the RF 28-70 for extended periods more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mind Blowing! It’s amazing! I compared this to the ef 25-70 2.8 ii, which was supposed to be good. This makes it look like junk, even at f/2.0. Since the 2.8 is already pretty large, the size difference is worth it It’s also huge. Think of it as caring the ef 70-200 2.8. Essentially the same experience. So glad I got this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE BEST ZOOM LENS for RF cameras. We have this lens at work and i LOVE it! can't wait to get one for myself and my own business. The picture quality is superb and grabs the faces clearly while leaving the background soft and muted. It's lovely - and surprisingly, much better than the 24-70 - the proportions of faces and bodies are always more complimentary. Only draw back is that it s Heavy - so be prepared, but worth carrying the extra weight; and sometimes we'd like the full 24 width of frame. C'mon canon - give us a 24-70 2.0! or better yet - 24-200 2.0!!! That would be the dream lens for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Great. Love the look of the images. Paired with an R5 I often get images that look more like film. Great focal range for people, cityscape, mountains landscapes. I do a lot of night photography as well and night cityscape and astro both work well with this. The clarity brings out stars you didn't realize were there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Big and Heavy, but Will Be a Time Saver I have used this lens for two different studio sessions and have shot roughly 500 images with it up to this point. The other reviews are pretty much spot on with this lens. It is heavy, and after about 4 hours, you will know it's there. However, when mounted to an R5 with a battery grip, the overall weight doesn't get in the way of doing things, it just tires you out a little bit. Optically, the lens behaves much like my previous EF 35mm f/1.4L and EF 50mm f/1.4L which I would use for location shoots. Using the RF 28-70mm gives me both of those focal lengths at nearly the same wide open aperture. Since I routinely shot at f/2 or tighter (for focus needs on a 5DS R), this lens will be great outdoors. The beauty is in the studio where I have limited room and need the zoom. I've been using an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II with great results, but now I can get much softer focus in the studio with a zoom lens. The weight might make me tired, but the benefit of being able to do a session without the need for changing lenses will make up for the extra fatigue. Maintaining the tempo and energy of the session will actually reduce the amount of time that you have to carry this lens. My only gripe about this lens is the 95mm filter threads. I have a kit based around what used to be the largest 82mm filters with a Lee 100 filter mount. This lens will be a bit problematic to use in the landscape setting because I have yet to find an adaptor that will work for the Lee 100 system that doesn't cause vignetting. Of course, my few round filters don't fit this lens at all. I do understand that to make this an f/2 lens, there was no way around this fact, so I'm not deducting any points for that feature, it is just a consideration which I knew going into the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a massive and very good zoom lens The lens is sharp but also very heavy. I find the color from the lens is very saturated. maybe due to the RF lens design. When compared to my ef 85 1.2, I still like the 85/1.2 better in terms of image rendering (the 85/1.2 has special effects. It's hard to describe, and it feels like you can see the air or airiness). On the other side, this lens is sharper, but has some plastic feel to it. I know the zoom cannot compete with prime, I bought this lens for its versatility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from single best lens i have ever used in my life I can't count how many lenses I've used in my career, but no contest this is my go-to favorite of all time. multiple primes in one lens. Bit heavy but you get used to it quickly. KEEP IT UP CANON!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish there is an option for a 4.5 star I have used this lens for a year and a half now, and I love the completeness of the package. There have been many comments on what this lens can offer, but here are some drawbacks that I personally experienced. You will find it useful in most situation shooting but there are still a few things missing/ could be better: First, the wide end is a bit tight. I wish it could be 24mm or 20mm. A lot of time I found myself could not compose the shot the way I want in tight spaces or specific situations. Also, it does not allow much "elongate" distortion as I expect a wide-angle would at 28mm. Therefore I feel the need to switch to my less quality wide-angle lens (17-40mm f4. It was a dilemma sometimes to decide if I want to sacrifice the composition or image quality. Second, the bokeh of this lens at wider focal lengths (from 28 to 50 approx.) is somewhat busy. I run into this problem taking pictures when there are trees behind the subject. The leaves will turn into countless mini Pokeballs, hence it can make the background look unnatural.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Lens The Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM Lens is tack sharp edge to edge and when used with my Canon EOS R5 and the IBIS I get 8 stops of image stabilization which is an incredible advantage over any camera lens combination in the photography world. This lens produces stunning images and I am happy that I went with this lens and made the switch from my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV over to the mirrorless Canon EOS R5 System. The RF lenses are absolutely worth their price since the images they produce are better than the already great Canon DSLR camera and lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent overall lens. If you ever thought zooms lacked the magic of primes, this lens dispels that notion. No more feeling like you're giving something up by going with a standard zoom vs a set of primes, nope, this lens let's you access the bokeh and 3D pop of almost any prime in this range except the 85mm f/1.2. While it does not quite equal the RF 50mm f/1.2 either in terms of bokeh, it's surprisingly close when zoomed in to 70mm. The point is if you are looking for easy access to bokeh this lens gives you that. Now, the 85mm f/1.2 can beat it but then you can always switch to a 70-200mm f/2.8 and beat the 85 again by zooming in just a pinch. Which is why I have just picked the RF 28-70mm and the RF 70-200mm for 99% of my shooting. I don't see the advantage to a prime lens except in very extreme scenarios.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If there was only one lens to pick.. this was the first RF lens I bought. It's heavy and the complaints end there. this is the most versatile and sharp lens I've ever owned. its multiple primes in one!! If I had to choose only one lens of all lenses on earth it wold hands down be this.
